As a single mom handling this kind of stuff on my own, I'm very aware I could be easily taken advantage of price-wise - and I never once felt that with him. Braulio installed a new pressure relief valve at our home in October. The work was done on time, and at the price he quoted, and we were happy with the work. Unfortunately it goes south from there. I discovered 3 months later, just now in January, that the pipe was leaking directly next to the valve that he installed. When I called him to address it, he replied that he was out of town and from a video I sent him, claimed that it wasn't the area he was working on so it was not responsible for it. It was, as you can see in the video, leaking right directly where the new valve connects to the water main pipe. So now I'll have to pay another plumber to fix his poor work. I don't recommend Standard Plumbing at all for long term quality of his work, or his poor commitment to his customers. read more

After some research, I liked reviews for Standard Plumbing, so I clicked on Yelp's "Get pricing & availability" button/link on Standard Plumbing's Yelp page and went through the prompts. At the end one may detail his/her plumbing issue in the space provided. I asked 5 questions (price for service call, tools the company possesses/uses for a particular specialized service, etc.). If you have never used this link on Yelp, you have the option of Yelp "broadcasting" your input to other providers, for which I opted in. You will get responses from a range of providers, some with good reputation like Standard Plumbing, some not so much. Most of the replies from the other companies did not answer my questions except to say there was no service call charge to come out and "diagnose" the issue and provide pricing options from there. A few provided more information, two of which said they did not offer the services I needed. Standard Plumbing was the ONLY company to respond quickly (within the hour) letting me know that they did not offer the services and provided a referral to a company they recommended. I will call Standard Plumbing the next time I need a more common plumbing problem like a leak or new HWH. Communicative, prompt and friendly. I had the inside parts of one toilet replaced. He brought the fluidmaster replacement kit. It literally took him 5 minutes. He also rinsed out 3 bathroom sink aerators to increase flow. 5 more minutes. He looked at my exterior hose bib and determined the low flow was the hose, not the hose bib. He did exactly what I needed in about 15 minutes. The charge was $200. I felt that was high but I will leave that opinion for others to decide for themselves. read more

So, I'm one of the unfortunate Austin-ites that suffered an extended power outage in 2021 with the snow. So to avoid that in the future I went out and bought a generator (Champion 10k tri-fuel). I don't love the idea of having gasoline but we do have Natural Gas to the house so I just needed a plumber to come out and run a line to near the generator. I contacted quite a few companies, and got varied responses from "We dont work on small gas jobs" to "There's a $100 call out charge to get a quote". This is a job that can be fairly accurately estimated with pictures. I did have a few come out and got pretty ridiculously high quotes and time estimates to install. Getting a little tired I got a very strong recommendation by a neighbor to give Standard Plumbing a text with the pictures. Within a few minutes Braulio had responded and gave me an immediate quote and time frame. He offered to come in person to confirm the quote and could do the work that same day. Amazing start (especially compared to the others!). When he came to confirm the quote and parts needed he was on time and great to chat with. You knew you were dealing with someone who had my best interest at heart. Well, lo and behold, even though I had 3 other companies in person quoting thousands of dollars, Braulio noticed that next to my air conditioner there was already an unused gas pipeline. That's easy for a homeowner to miss (it wasn't capped so just looked like a pipe) but certainly not for the 3 other plumbers who almost certainly saw it, or chose not to see it, before quoting me to put in a duplicate pipe that would have run right past this one. He immediately gave me a quote to bring it up to spec for my generator which was literally 1/10th of the other quotes and he popped off to the supply store, came back within 30 minutes and finished job within that hour. AWESOME! While I shouldn't be blown away by his honestly and great work ethic, compared to the others he's a worlds apart. 2024 has been the year of home owner drama for me! Fed up and slightly frustrated, I decided to turn my focus towards what brings me joy, gardening. I reached out to standard plumbing a few months after getting a home inspection and he really broke down the details of what each item really meant and what made sense to repair now vs what really didn't need to be done until a larger scope of work was undertaken, saving me a decent bit of money and potential rework hassle since i had been considering getting the individual things fixed ahead of it. In my case, bringing individual parts of a very old water heater up to code vs waiting until it needed to be replaced and putting all the needed items in then. He was also willing to offer sensible advice for trivial fixes that someone without advanced plumbing experience wouldn't have, so I really can't recommend him enough.
