Should fire the old man with the red hat first time he was being very impatient and today after picking me fish he rudely tells me their in front after not hearing him the first time he looks at me like with his eyes open weirdly and says are you joking are you joking their in front after scariest look ever need better employees asap I love fish but made me not want to come ever again ! Other than that has best prices and variety of fish and shrimp I thought fish people were supposed to be nice

Best prices in town I have never seen a fish store with prices this low. The prices beat Craigslist prices which is insane. I bought 20 Neocaridina shrimp and some food. The fish food price is average but the fish prices are great.

Definitely come here if you're looking to support your local fish store to get a new betta fish. They all looked very healthy and they had such a large selection of king/huge bettas which is exactly what I was looking for to add to my 10 gallon planted tank! Affordable prices compared to large chain pet stores and the workers were all super friendly the younger guy helping me out was very nice and helpful. I ended up getting a female king koi betta and she is so beautiful and healthy and thriving in her new tank!

I frequent fish stores in OC and LA county, and this place has the BEST prices undoubtedly. The staff here are for the most part, pretty great! The fish I buy from here sometimes come with some disease, and I do not mind that because of the price. **Basically, You know what you are paying for. I once bought some fish from here and went on a short trip after, and ich wiped out some of my oldest fish (5 years+) by the time I came home. I attributed this to my own negligence, it is not uncommon to buy fish infected with ich anywhere. I bought some Pearl Gouramis from here that I had been searching for months, and I asked for all *females* because males tend to be aggressive. The guy helping me said "OK" and proceeded to sell me 3 *males* LOL. The day I brought them home, they had big white lesions on their heads, severed pelvic fins, and nipped fins. Not surprising and I didn't really care because the tank they were housed in had just about every type of gourami, all of which are more aggressive than pearls. The screenshots below is from the day they came home, where the white bumps are visible. I decided to keep the male gouramis once I realized they had in fact sold me all males, if they were to be peaceful. I watched them steadily tear each other apart in my 40g over the span of a few weeks. My female dwarf gourami also had the same white lesions, so I figured they were bullying her as well. I decided they must go. Fast forward to today, I returned 2 of the male gouramis, and the store so graciously gave me credit for my gouramis, a few weeks after purchase too! This is not common in my experience. This would have been a 5 star review after my experience today, because they gave me credit for the pearls and let me pick other fish. I didn't take home any female gouramis because they had white patches and were pretty beat. However, upon getting home and deciding to take a better look at the gouramis I DID keep, I noticed their white lesions grew bigger, had legs, and were crawling over their scales. I removed the now obvious parasites with a knife and set them on fire lmao. I called the store back, to inform them that the bumps on the gouramis I had just returned are in fact crawling live parasites that I had just removed from my own fish. Parasites that I had brought home, from THEIR fish initially. They said "dont worry we will take care". I know some of their workers try their best to keep everything up to par, but be wary of sick fish when shopping. They have the best prices, so there's the tradeoff. Update: parasite I got from here was fish lice, Argulus. I will probably still go here, because it is so damn affordable, but DO BE AWARE that you may be walking into a big pain in the ass when you bring home diseased fish. Inspect your fish carefully before you buy them, don't be like me. Do not settle and buy beat up fish. This way, you will get the best of both worlds, the cheapest prices whilst avoiding their sick fish lmao. Tong's nearby isn't all that great either, with double the prices AND sick fish At the end of the day, if you love your current tank, I wouldn't risk bringing home fish from here unless you have a quarantine tank, which I do not. I have had MANY good experiences here, hence the 4 stars, but all it takes is a few sick fish to cause mass destruction. Nobody has time to be constantly identifying the new disease they brought home. But I love this place nonetheless, and the select knowledgeable workers :)

    Sick fish from this store

Beware. If your thinking about purchasing fish, I would think twice before buying from 405 tropical fish. I spend a lot of money on new fish for my tank and took them home and the next day most of them died. I went back to the store to test my water and it was fine. The owner and workers were very rude to me and refused to take back the fish when I was told by the workers who sold them to me I had 24 hours to bring them back. Bad business, Sick Fish and terrible customer service. Stay away.

Ask the Community - 405 Tropical Fish

Do they carry various types of snails or crab here?

I see assassin snails and gold snails, also red claw crab today

    They have guppies and price?

They have all varieties of guppies, from feeders which are like 10 for $1, to some very colorful and fancy guppies for like $2.50 to $3.00.

Do they do special guppy orders and can we trade fishes here?

Usually you can order whatever fish and they try and get it for you. You can trade fish, but they must be interested in the fish.

Are they open during the pandemic?

hi, i called earlier this week, they said they are open. Just give em a call between their normal hours listed on yelp and you should get a response. good luck.

    Do they sell jellyfish?

I have not seen any jellyfish available

Do they carry honey gouramis here? Planning to get one.

Not sure as they carry new types of fishes all the time. I would call them. If they don't have it ask if they can get it for you.

Do you have any bristlenose pleco for sale?

    Yes they do

How's their African cichlid stock usually?

    Pretty healthy, and low cost!

It's doing well in my tank and slowly getting healthier :) the javaferns at Nolan's were tiny and even in worst condition lol so I think I still got a good plant. Staff is super knowledgeable on plants and fish. I like how much staff they have, you never have to wait for help there's always someone that is around. Btw the owner is super nice and sweet! She said new inventory every fridays - I came on Friday and they actually had SO many more plants. So it's best to come Friday I guess so there's a bigger selection to chose from :) Btw: My water lettuce all rotted and melted in my tank. Idk what happened !!! The other plants did well I have a light and test my water every day. But I won't blame the store bc they looked good in store.

So sad to see that there was a fire today, from the look of it, it looks pretty burn/charred up inside. My first recent try was to go the traditional route - heater, filter, bottles of water conditioner & beneficial bacteria, etc. etc. - when I unexpectedly happened upon an eye-opening You-Tube vid about the Walstad method (less homework & a more natural environment, the way God intended). So I returned all that other gear & am starting from scratch. Fernando eased My initial anxiety arriving as a total tank newbie, and gave Me a tour of the various low-maintenance plants I could start My nitrogen cycling with. Nolan - the Captain of this aquarium supplies ship - answered every one of My questions with patience & grace, did not talk down to Me or make Me feel stupid, and I left feeling happily hopeful that I might actually be successful in creating a fish-friendly safe & healthy environment. I am already envisioning My future fishy tenants, plus a snail & a sucker fish or two. Wish Me luck!! :-)

I've been to tongs, 8888, etc, trust me Nolan's is super clean. I came here for plants, they have a very large selection!!! My first time here was a few days ago - I got Hornwort, bolbitus, and dwarf water lettuce. They were all thriving. Hornwort fluffy and full! Also Thursday's is 25% off plants !! I came again today and brought a friend and she was also so happy we stayed there for like an hour just looking at everything. They have multiple rooms and a lot of tanks. The store seems small but it's not ; there's a lot of variety of fish, plants, and shrimp. Today there were red root floaters, one of the employees actually grew them - they were so healthy and super red I had to buy 3 cups !! I got more dwarf water lettuce bc my axolotl loved hanging in the roots. Staff today was super nice and helpful. There were 2 guys. It was extremely busy when I came like 10 people and they were helping everyone collaboratively. I hate when an employee only focuses on 1 customer who takes forever thinking and observing and there's a ton of ppl waiting. It wasn't like that here, the guy would answer a question and move on to another client. Also when the guy was fishing out some shrimp he was still talking to other customers and answering questions. I loved the vibe here. I will def be returning!!!!!
