This is my 3rd and last visit to this restaurant. First - service was pretty dismissive and put out so this is my first and foremost issue. The food is just average at best. It was late and we love tacos and Mexican food. Guacamole was delicious but could have used more spice.... I had the pork belly taco and my hubby had a Cali burrito, they forgot the potatoes but added them to the plate as a side. Salsa was spicy with good flavor, server was sweet, atmosphere was quiet.... Terrible service. Hispanic dude about 35 years old. Didn't hand out any food, just set our drinks and food down in one spot on the table so we could pass them out. Went there later on a Sunday evening so very quiet. Service friendly and attentive, with host, and waiter checking on us several times. The food was great! Beef and chorizo tacos were full of meat that was super flavorful without being overly spicy. Hubby had chicken tortilla soup which had lots of roasted chicken and the broth was very tasty, with just enough zing. The refried beans were bland and runny. The chips were warm and crispy and the salsa was thick and not too spicy. Overall some of the best Mexican food we have ever had. read more

Went to 423 Taco today for the first time. It was very quiet with not a lot of tables. Our waiter clearly only was taking care of us. Our water glasses were constantly empty as well as our chip bowls. It took her almost an hour to take our order and kept giving us the stank eye for some reason. Our first visit to this restaurant. The food was decent. However, we were treated terribly. Our server was very rude from the moment we arrived. He was impatient while we were ordering. We received chips and salsa when we sat down. We ordered a dip trio appetizer which did not come with extra chips . When we ran out and asked for more, he said we'd be charged $3.50 for chips. And after a horrible experience, he added in 18% gratuity for our family of 6 on one check. I am typically a 20-25% tipper but I think he knew there was no way he was getting that. Was staying nearby. My wife and I walked over and had a terrible meal and what made it worse was the ridiculously bad service. We ordered a queso appetizer. By the time it arrived we asked for more chips. About 15 minutes later the waiter brought the chips. It was obvious the queso was now cold. The food was bland no spice, no real flavor. The quesadilla was child size. The waiter offered a refill on my soda when the food was dropped off. After 30 minutes we had to go into the bar to pay. Never checked on the meal, never got the refill, never got the bill. I told the young lady who rang up the bill the service was terrible. Her response, sorry about that and she walked away. Plenty of staff (5) for the five tables in the restaurant so no telling what the service issue was other than lack of care. We got a room at the Bode across and really needed an easy, late night dinner so we walked over to 423 tacos and had dinner. We really enjoyed the food, the service and drinks! We had our toddler with us who refused to nap that day and our waitress was SUPER friendly and even offered to cook some thing special for him. We left as they were closing and the owner took his time to chat with us and say hi. We'll definitely be coming back. read more

I'm very surprised by the overall star ranking as only 3 stars. This is my favorite place for Mexican or Tex mex in Chattanooga, Mayan kitchen is good also but the overall vibe and food are terrific. The steak, and chicken actually taste like chicken and steak, most Mexican places over salt and over season everything but not here and you can tell, you don't feel gross leaving here. The chips and salsa are always fresh and delicious. The tortilla soup is huge and has so much fajita chicken in it, most places uses shredded. The Texas quesadilla with steak, chicken and shrimp is really good, more of a large taco than quesadilla but still very good. Drinks are and great and service is good. You won't be disappointed and the location in west village is really nice! read more

They are short staffed. So I am trying to take that into consideration. But they are NOT friendly. I cxd my guacamole dip bc I waited over 30 minutes for it. With no apology. The people beside us never got refills on their waters. They acted like we all bothered them trying to get our tickets. I have been here twice before and everything was excellent. But I have never seen such rudeness from bartenders before. They never came back to our end Of the bar. And acted like we were annoying them when we asked anything. read more

We came with our family for dinner from out of town. The food was pretty good but our server Oliver was the least hospitable server I've ever experienced. From the beginning it was terrible. Our drinks took 10 minutes to get to the table and were incomplete. Then it took several more minutes to get our food ordered when the restaurant wasn't even that busy. He never checked to see how our food was or if we needed anything even when our drinks sat empty. We waited almost 15 minutes for our check after we asked for it and he had the audacity to add at 18% gratuity. The service was definitely not worth the 18 % gratuity and that's coming from someone who worked in the service industry for almost two decades. We won't be back. Not sure why this place got 2 1/2 stars. Typical Mexican style restaurant with a robust selection at a great price. Had the grandma's guacamole with their sampler dish (3 tacos, 1 flauta, 1 chimichanga, & 1 cheese quesadilla). Hit the spot and didn't break the bank . Even after reading the reviews we still decided to give it a try . BIG MISTAKE!! We were sat down pretty quick, our drink order was taken and we got our drinks in a good 10 minutes and never got a refill again. We were there for roughly 2 hours because our server/bartender/host was busy arguing with another customer who was complaining about their service. He never brought us the ticket until we asked for it. We even stacked our plates and cups and everything. Another customer had to get up and go towards the kitchen to ask for chips and salsa cause they weren't served any. Then again he later also got up to ask if their food was almost done . They are very understaffed which is understandable and we would definitely be patient but the one server they have had terrible attitude and really doesn't care . If your the only one serving you have to be checking up on all your tables and what not. This man would sit down and be on his phone any chance he got. He blew his nose behind the bar a couple times and just threw the paper on the bar! Oh yea and the 18% gratuity included in the ticket is not at all deserved and I'm a good tipper but never would've tipped him that much. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!
