Patricia was so sweet to drive us to the wedding so we wouldn't have to walk (as we had taken the bus to town from Queens). She immediately made us feel like family; I felt like I was visiting my mom's home as she was content to sit and chat with us or leave us be while she cooked masterpieces in the kitchen. Patricia shines in the kitchen. Her extensive dining services background was evident from the extremely lavish breakfast she cooked for us, including a blueberry dutch baby, peach crumble, frittata, french bread and bacon. She had fresh fruit available as well along with fresh coffee and juice. I can honestly tell you that this is one of the best breakfasts I've EVER had. Patricia opens up the first floor of her house to all her guests. There are two guest rooms with a shared bathroom, a cozy living room, a bright, window-filled breakfast patio and a large backyard with plenty of comfortable places to read a magazine. The bedrooms are simple and relaxing. We stayed in the room to the right and the bed was so comfortable. The duvet is big and fluffy and there were more pillows than I could count on the bed for extra snuggling. There was a dresser, closet space, a small table, comfy chair and luggage rack for our use. She left chocolate on our pillows when we got back from the wedding which was so sweet, a simple gesture that shows she really goes the extra mile for her guests. Her home is walkable to nearby wineries, coffee shops and the few restaurants in Cutchogue. We walked to the beach (about 30-40 minutes) and then walked to the wineries (about 2 miles to the furthest winery from Patricia's home). The day was warm, so it was perfect for exploring on foot. I was truly sad to say goodbye to Patricia. My husband and I would absolutely make a trip back just to visit with her (and to finally meet her sweet pup, which she will board with her sister, if you'd prefer a dog-free experience). Our most recent visit was so memorable that I had to write a review and tell my fellow yelpers about this little gem. The Beaver Dam Creek House is not your typical snooty tooty bed and breakfast. Upon entering the door you are greeted by Summer, the friendly Golden Retreiver and official welcoming committee. She happily wags her tail and is thrilled to have new guests come and stay at the house. Jeanne, the owner is very friendly, mellow and full of great information about nearby restaurants, the best shopping, and where to go for great bargains. The home is tastefully beach themed and filled with all sorts of antique touches. Each room is unique and has a different feel. There are beautiful mirrors, refurbished and antique furniture, seashells, old wood paneling, gorgeous wall paper and crown molding. The home is also filled with all of the modern necessities like TV, cable, internet, dvd's, books, boardgames, magazines, and a jacuzzi. Everything is very clean and you get fresh sheets and towels on a regular basis. Our family has quite a few food allergies and Jeanne was extremely understanding and accommodating; Each morning we awoke to asparagus quiche, scrambled eggs, sausage, hot coffee with dairy and non-dairy creamer, orange juice, bagels with cream cheese and fresh fruit. She also kept fresh fruits, vegetables, pita chips and hummus for us, knowing that we were California health nuts. I've stayed at bed and breakfasts before but I've never experienced the kindness, hospitality and sense of "home" that Jeanne creates at Beaver Dam Creek House. Our family absolutely loved our stay and we plan to go back every other year to celebrate Thanksgiving at our favorite spot. It's perfect for laid back families like ours who enjoy the freedom of a less structured bed and breakfast with a home away from home feel.

So even though I was far from my home waters in California I was able to get on the water and see ducks and a great blue heron...very nice perk. The accommodations are very nice and Jeanne's friendliness and easy going manner helped to make our stay very pleasant. Jeanne is an excellent host and I can't wait to return! The WiFi is strongest in the kitchen area and is free.

The rooms have iPod docks with 30-pin connectors. I mean at this point just remove them if you aren't going to replace them guys - they haven't worked with any iPhone since 2012. 3. A woman who fell squarely into the "surprised and afraid to find herself in charge of a hotel" category was incredibly rude to my wife when we were working from the room (as we had been told we could) the day we needed to inexplicably vacate it for a different room. "My husband is showering, we need 15 minutes." "You can't have 15 minutes." Like, what are you going to do? Forcibly remove us from the room? You guys were the ones who told us we could use the room. 4. I should also note that the rooms were LITERALLY RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO EACH OTHER and to my eye completely identical. (The one we moved to had a small balcony but otherwise I didn't detect any material difference.) It doesn't seem like an insurmountable puzzle to solve that you could have just put the other people into the vacant room. 5. They decided for some reason to empty the hotel's septic tank during our friends' wedding photos. 6. It's one of those places where a hopeless fussy person has laminated lots of signs with rules and instructions. Do NOT remove the laminated guide to the room from the room itself. Do NOT use any towel other than the blue ones for removing makeup. Do NOT flush anything other than toilet paper because the house has EXTREMELY sensitive plumbing. It all seems like someone very, very angry runs the place. (Is there a significant problem with guests removing the laminated guide from the room?) One star for a good location and another star for a pretty good breakfast (you are entitled to ONE cooked item, per the rules).

A family member has a medical condition that requires a specific type of mattress, so I called to ask a simple question about what kind of mattresses they offer. I was connected with a woman named Beth, who was shockingly rude and unprofessional. When I began explaining the situation, she literally said, "I don't have time for this," and then followed it with, "Are you making a reservation or not?" I was stunned. We were ready to spend a week here, but after being treated like an inconvenience for asking a basic, medically necessary question, there's no way I'd trust our family vacation to this place. I'm genuinely at a loss for words at how poorly I was treated. Also, I might like to add it takes a lot for me to leave a negative review. I think I've only ever left one other negative review on my account. Trying to support small local business has always been a priority of mine and I understand people have good days and bad days so I don't usually take two social media to post a negative review but this was over the top nasty. I felt I needed to do so. Not to mention, I took a screenshot. The phone call was only one minute, so the fact that she became so nasty and saying she shouldn't have time for this I'm flabbergasted.

Steve had great recommendations for places to eat in Greenport and other areas nearby. The breakfasts Stacey cooked were scrumptious; I particularly enjoyed the fluffy almond croissant and the avocado toast with an egg on top. Our room was clean and cozy and the view of the woods in the back was nice. Parking was very easy. There's a common room with a good selection of board games and books to read though we didn't get a chance to use it. There's also some comfy Adirondack chairs outside in a grassy area for lounging. The inn is also within walking distance of several wineries (just be careful crossing the road) including Lenz, Raphael, and Pindar. Don't know when I'll be back in the North Fork area but I'd stay at Harvest Inn again!

Forget that the rooms are more comfortable and relaxing than any other dwelling you've ever experienced -- but it should be noted that you feel instantly at home. Forget that the breakfasts are better than anything else you will eat for the rest of the year -- though it should be noted that the food is both original and familiar and you will not be able to stop eating what you're served, even if you're not hungry. (And as an aside, for those of you who come here and need many hours of recovery from eating and wine tasting and other gluttinous pursuits, Donna is not strict about the time breakfast is served. Hey, this is a B&B, not a weekend in army boot camp, okay? And while Donna is the most generous soul, you had better respect her and the time and effort she puts in to making you happy! Or else you'll hear from me! ;) ) I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH: the greatest thing about this beautifully stunning old Victorian home is its keeper, Donna. The second you meet her, you'll think you ran into one if your best friends from way back! Her sweetness and generosity and ebullience and tremendous sense of humor are all showered upon you and the only thing you'll regret is that you have to leave. But you will tell everyone you know about this place and right after you leave, you'll be thinking about coming back. Anyway, I'm writing this on the last night of our three-night Labor Day stay and while I am looking forward to eating nothing salads and celery sticks for the next week, I am sad to leave this house, which already feels like a second home.
