[[HIGHLIGHT]]While the vet techs are polite and kind, the doctors are nothing short of ruthless predators.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They wear sweet smiles as a mask to manipulate and guilt you into accepting exorbitant, overpriced procedures. My chihuahua had a large tumor that needed removal, and they slapped me with a $10,000 price tag--an amount completely out of reach. Not only did they fail to offer any reasonable or affordable alternatives, they pressured me to take financing at an outrageous 26% interest rate. It was clear from the start that neither my pet's well-being nor my financial reality mattered to them. In the end, they pushed me into buying end-of-life medications, essentially selling me a slow, painful goodbye disguised as "peace." It's a cruel business disguised as care. Thanks to a friend's referral, I found a surgical vet who removed the tumor for $1,100--and now my dog is healthier and happier than ever. 43rd Ave Animal Hospital may have a polished façade, but it's infested with doctors who are more interested in lining their pockets than saving lives. If you're looking for superficial care and don't mind being exploited, maybe they'll work for you. It's unfortunate that I had to take 3 different steps to simply stop this business from accepting money under false pretenses, after they knew my dog has liver disease (which took them 2 minutes to discover bc I wrote it in the top of the email) , but hopefully the business is on the right track now and they won't do this to someone else. I have nothing but good things to say about this Animal Hospital. Since our Panda was a pup we took him there. As Panda grew older they helped is with quality of life options. But 13 yrs later the dreaded day came. Panda had to go to doggy heaven. Since our arrival the staff was nothing but compationate and loving. They had a room ready for us and explained everything in detail. We were able to be with Panda reminding him how much we loved him. Love the doctors, nurses, and staff at 43rd Ave Animal Hospital. Dr. Ellermeier is simply the best, and we are very happy and fortunate to get such quality care for our pups! Only "downside" I can speak about is that we are always charged a waste disposal fee of just under $8 anytime our pets need an injection per pet per visit, which I realize is not in the doctor's control, but it's nothing our pet insurance covers, and every little bit adds up these days. Otherwise, the care and treatment at this clinic is top notch and we love it here! read more

I have never encountered such a amazing veterinarian and staff! They were so caring and compassionate, they fit my big guy in same day which my other vet was never able to do. They were so kind to my boy knowing he could be aggressive and never showed any fear. They handled him so gently. I would give this vet 1000 stars if I could! We picked up a UA for my dog for a suspected UTI and dropped off yesterday. To preface, she is a new patient and has a scheduled appointment on Monday. When I called for the results, they would not provide them, instead insisting I wait for my Monday appointment. I was given the excuse that "we cant disclose without a visit". When I asked if I should take her to the hospital, I was told, "I cant tell you that". i asked if they had an earlier appointment and they said they didnt. I have lost 2 days of getting an answer because the vet only cares about money. I have 5 cats and a dog and will seek care elsewhere. Why would they bother taking a UA if they aren't going to release any information and make my pup wait? I will be submitting a complaint to the Arizona Board of Veterinary Medicine about the doctor. I explained my circumstance & they refused to cancel the $79 fee even if I rescheduled. I have to leave my husband in the hospital to take my puppy for vaccinations to avoid paying $79 for nothing. They claimed this was all explained in an email they sent me 2 weeks ago. I haven't even had the dog for 2 weeks so no they didn't. Even if they had, I feel that in this circumstance they should have rescheduled me with no fee. I have 3 other pets I would have taken there so they're losing a lot of business from me. I did receive a phone call later from the manager & she "made it right. " I appreciate her efforts. I will say the vet tech & doctor who saw my pet were wonderful. read more

DON'T EVER GO HERE! These people are the worst! They are all about what is in your wallet and not about your dog's best interest. MONEY GRABBERS! WORTHLESS!!! I scheduled my dog for a nose to tail exam, heart worm shot, and his rabies vaccination. I told them he has a mild ear infection and that he needs some more ointment that we've been using for years that always clears it up. They make you sit in the parking lot and wait for them to come to your car. The windows are covered so you can't see inside the building as if you are being kept separate from your animal. Something about how they keep you from your animal is fishy anyway. They immediately came back outside with him in under 3 minutes and I began to wonder how in the heck did they give him two shots and a thorough nose to tail exam. The snobby girl tells me that he's good to go and wanted to know how I wanted to pay. I said what about his ears. She said well we didn't do an exam on him so you will have to make another appointment. I said I made the appointment today to get him in here for a nose to tail exam and I told you and the lady on the phone he had an ear infection that needs to be treated with some ointment. I then asked if they even gave him his shots or did you decide to blow that off too! Oddly enough she didn't answer that question. She handed me the paper that claims my dog had his rabies shot but I honestly don't think it was done. Someone signed the document but it wasn't the doctor. It was signed for the doctor as it states on the paper! The parking lot girl that shows up to take your dog inside told me that I would have to schedule another appointment and that I would have to have some type of culture exam done that would cost me more money and the vet wasn't available! I was like are you kidding me!!!! You have to send his yeast infection off to a lab in order to give me the same medication he's had since he was a puppy! I told her it's all a money grab! They charged me six dollars for a biohazard fee. They are all about taking your money! Find yourself an old-fashioned vet and don't ever come here! They are smoking mirrors and I don't believe they are even administering the shots they are claiming they are! The devil has a special place for you! read more

We love this place so much. We have been going here for 6 years. We have 3/4 dogs go here and they have always take care of our fur babies. Two of our fur babies can be a handful and very protective of us but thankfully the staff is understanding and always works with us whenever we need to visit. Very good about getting patients in quickly. Whenever our dogs ate in their care they are always well taken care of whether it's being taken out to the dedicated grass field for the animals or lots of love/treats from the staff! The communication is great from the staff, they always call & text with updates in regards to our babies. I'll start this by saying I've waited months to see if I even wanted to take the time to write this but realized I wanted to make sure no one else went through what we went through. I have a fat cat named Geoff. I will be the first to tell you Geoff can be a real a**hole at the vet, there is always a 50/50 shot they'll be able to work on him and I know this. Geoff had started to show signs of a UTI. He wasn't cleaning himself, we were bathing him almost daily to try and help him stay clean until his appointment. I arrive and drop off as expected. While at work I received the dreaded but also semi-expected phone call letting me know that Geoff was being a real handful and that he's need to come back under a mild sedative but that they would hold him until the agreed upon pick up time. Perfect! I'll reschedule, get his meds, and we'd try again. At pick up they let me know that he had stayed in his carrier all day from drop off in the early morning until pick up after 4pm. That means no food, no water, no litter all day. He was covered in his own urine and fences all day and forced to stay in a carrier hardly larger than his body. If I had known they wouldn't be giving access to basic amenities I would have left work and picked up my big guy within 15 minutes. Unfortunately, none of that was communicated so for hours he sat in conditions I wouldn't put any living creature through. I picked him up and cried the whole way home. After a warm bath and lots of cuddles I cancelled his appointment and made a new one at Palm Glen Hospital on 43rd and Northern. Not only was it vastly cheaper, Dr. Mangone got him in, got him diagnosed, and gave us meds. He was less stressed, well cared for, and is now in much better health. I will never take a pet back to 43rd Ave Animal Hospital because I just can't bring myself to trust them with caring for my pets with empathy and understanding. How do you leave an animal in those conditions for hours and not let the owner know?! Never again. read more

I've been bringing my new pup here since late February after we adopted him. He had a broken leg that needed fixing and I am so glad that we brought him here. The staff is so accommodating and you can tell they love their job. They went out of their way to put us and our dog at ease. They helped us figure out payment since the bill was quite hefty. So I have always taken my English Bulldog to the same vet office since she was a puppy and she will be 9 in March 2023. Lillee has really bad allergies, I called my normal office and I can never get in. I believe it's because they have gotten so big. I took Miss Lillee to 43rd Avenue Pet Hospital on Wednesday and I could not be more happy with the card that not only Lillee got, but also for me as she was there for half the day without me. She has issues not being with her people, but Eryn and Dr. Darmofal were AMAZING. They called me kept me informed also explained to me by both. You can tell that this place really cares for our fur babies. I will be taking Lillee back in two weeks for her follow up but also to do other things that I feel should be done as she is my old lady. My baby was ten years old and had a tumor growing inside her left leg. The initial treatment was great as all the staff showed compassion and treated my baby with care. As the tumor continued to progress it became apparent to me that it was all about the money at that point. Rather than tell me the inevitable Dr. Schmidt kept wanting me to do blood work, X-Rays and other bullshit tests when in reality my dog was at or near her life span. Amputation was an option but a course it was a expensive and no guarantee the cancer hadn't spread elsewhere. During this time rather than try to up sell me they should have just told me to prepare for quality of life and enjoy the final months with my baby. I felt swindled and no compassion from Dr. Schmidt. They have now lost our business and we have three cats and two dogs. We now go to Arrow Animal Hospital who are open seven days a week until 7-8PM and offer payment plans for any services totalling $200 or more. This offers great peace of mind and allows you to get your babies treated right away. It takes away the financial stress. You simply pay a $10 payment plan fee and a 20-25% deposit and have 3-6 months to pay it off. They are located on the NW corner of 51st Ave & Thunderbird in Glendale. My little homie has a growth on his tail causing him extreme pain and was bleeding all over. Amputation of his tail was the only option but I didn't have $1,000 for the amputation and other related services but I did the payment plan was able to get him treated right away! Arrow Animal is definitely our vet of choice moving on. read more

We've been taking our pets here for over 10 years and they have been wonderful, supportive, straightforward, honest, realistic, understanding, compassionate and passionate about whole-pet health. Dr. Striyle is fantastic! She very obviously loves animals, and showers yours with affection while somehow managing to be extremely professional at the same time. The rest of the staff is also top notch (Claire, Kelley, Erica, Ashley, Stephanie and Analis are the ones we've worked with most) and work very hard to make your visits comfortable, professional and enjoyable. It's obvious that the ethic and culture fostered by Dr. Striyle has permeated through the entire staff. When we had to put down our beloved lab last year, the compassion and sensitivity shown by the Dr. and Claire was greatly appreciated - and we knew they grieved with us. We have been going to 43rd Animal Hospital for over 16 years and cannot say enough about the quality care my dogs have received. Having an animal that will be on medications for the rest of their life can become pretty expensive. Them....knowing that I am willing to pay about $250.00 every other week because I care about my dog has turned into, what I feel, a situation of if you don't do this then no medication for your dog situation. It's unfortunate that I feel the need to write a negative review on this vet. After over 22 years of a relationship I have recently experienced some negative experiences with the staff and, most unfortunately, the owner of the practice, Dr. Striyle. Not only has she unfriended me personally on Facebook, she hides behind the computer to sever our long-term relationship when all I wanted was to speak with her on the phone. While I'm happy there is still management who supports their staff I am appalled that she refused, at my request, to speak with me about the situation with her staff. She refused to hear the other side of the issues. I've never had an experience where a business owner would not physically discuss the issues with their client especially one who has been so loyal to them and even referred at least a half dozen people to her practice. They overcharged me on my last bill and have not fully refunded the overpayment - perhaps this will be rectified. My dog is on an allergy medication. The extensive research I've done shows blood work is needed once a year to monitor yet they require 6-mo blood work to monitor or no refills. This means I'm (and other people) required to pay an additional $200 for blood work every year that's not needed (as this is the charge for their blood work for a younger dog). Let's talk about pricing....this has been an issue of mine for years and confirmed by the many people I've referred and ALSO confirmed by her own staff...they are EXTREMELY expensive. After all, they charge $6.50 for a biohazard fee. Yes, to throw away ONE needle they charge 2 small coffees at Starbucks. While everything in this review is 100% true, I am with heavy heart that I have to write this message - if Dr Striyle would have only had the guts to physically speak with me and heard my side of the story (as I couldn't say everything in my email to her), I think things could have been resolved differently. Oh, and another suggestion, should you choose to use, or keep using this vet....I HIGHLY recommend that you record EVERY call and conversation with the staff as they WILL document your chart with inaccurate information to make you look like a bad person. Dr. striyle is wonderful, kind and caring. They treat your animals as if they were their own.
