I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Chuck Toben. I just wish every vet treated my dog the way he does. My dog is geriatric, medically complex, previously abused and used to hate but is now just pretty avoidant of most men. Within the first couple of visits my dog leaned on Dr. Toben's legs while my dog was feeling weak....I was absolutely floored. Dr. Toben has gone out of his way to help my dog, last minute, over the phone, with appointments, and has been just so insightful and helpful in a way so many other vets cannot do. Most primary care vets get super overwhelmed w/ my dog's health problems, as a lot of my dog's health issues have unknown causes. I went to see many primary care docs in the valley who I really could not trust w/ my dog, or tolerate myself (over 5). Dr. Toben has never even once snapped at me or my dog, gotten overwhelmed (in a way that was even remotely perceivable anyway), has never tried to nickle & dime me, and most importantly, has never given up on my dog. I just cannot place a value on Chuck's honest approach to animal care and kindness towards my dog and me. Chuck will keep trying, trying different things, is always open to suggestions, knows when to sort of make firmer recommendations and take control and when to give space for feedback. He's crazy smart, he knows about so many of my dog's issues in a way that usually only internal med docs seem to be able to discuss, and he is consistently genuinely compassionate and humane. Dr. Toben is just basically a freaking giant brained angel. My only regret is that I'm not loaded so I can't make a massive donation to this clinic. This is exactly what I think all vets should be like, I of course have been really very picky and have a dog w/ a very difficult medical status, and I definitely 1,000% recommend him. Chuck is the first doc I've strongly recommended, by the way, after seeing 2 primaries in MO, 5 specialists in MO, 2 docs in Mexico, 3 internal med docs in AZ, and more than 5 primary care vets in AZ....again, my dog is a very difficult medical case, and Dr. Toben is absolutely the doc for the hardest cases....and thank God that there are vets out there like Chuck who are so good for our poor beloved pets who were previously abused b/c these animals are so sorely in need of kindness and quality care. I'm eternally grateful for this clinic and Dr. Toben. read more

This vet was great until they weren't. After awhile, my sick senior dog became a bother because she didn't like going in the car or the vet. One time, when they didn't think I was inside the building, I saw them DRAGGING HER by her collar after she was sedated to the scale. I locked eyes with the vet (the son) and he knew he fucked up. She is gone now, and this still pisses me off to this day. Don't be a vet if you are bothered by animals being sick and not waiting to be there. You tortured my old dog for months just for money. We have had dogs since the early 90's and have been to more vets than I can remember. They are priced fairly, do good work and really care about our dogs. There are quite a few vets that are closer to us but it is worth the drive for Dr. Tobin. How do you rate a place when you walk out in tears? I'm not from the area but knew i needed an appt for my cat after she started acting really out of character. It was odd to say the least. My sister in law referred me here because she's been taking her pets here for many years and loves it. Tiffany answered when i called. I explained how my cat had started to walk in circles along with a couple other oddities. There was mention of a possible inner ear infection or something worse, like a stroke. She found a cancellation and fit us in for the next morning. She was friendly and professional. We brought Frosty in for her appt and met with Dr. Corrin Toben. It wasn't long before she explained that my cat was blind (what the hell? I didn't see that one coming. And no pun intended ). After several questions, and exam she explained that it was highly likely that Frosty had lost her eye sight as a result of high blood pressure which also likely caused some organ failure and possible brain damage. That would explain why we didn't think Frosty was going to make it through the night, the night prior to the appointment. Toben offered no judgement when we decided to put Frosty down. The procedures they have in place to streamline the process was great. She explained the steps and gave us as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes. They provided a call button to use when we were ready. Someone also came in our private room to take payment so we wouldn't have to wait in the open waiting room and could walk right out after everything was done. She let me hold and comfort Frosty during the three step IV injections. Shortly after the third and final one Toben checked for a heartbeat and calmly said, "Frosty is in peace now." I'm starting to well up as im typing this. That phase was so incredibly comforting and peaceful to us. At the beginning of the year, my 12 year cat had an abscess near the base of her tail from my other cat going after her. It had been difficult to find the abscess because of her long dark tortie fur. Also, she is very timid and difficult to check out. It healed, but then came back again on the other side of her tail, so I called Apollo Animal Hosp. to have it checked out. I didn't have a regular vet at this time, but had heard good things about Apollo from years ago. They were booked for 2 weeks. The earliest they could see me was Jan. 18th. By the time I saw KC Wright, the abscess was pretty well healed. He prescribed antibiotics and suggested a lab culture to see what kind of bacteria caused this but said it was "pretty expensive" ($230.) I agreed to this but the results of the culture showed "no bacteria" which seemed very strange to me. She was fine after this but at the beginning of May, I noticed that she was having some trouble eating and wasn't drinking water. I thought it might be something caught in her throat. When I examined her, I felt a pea-sized lump under her neck next to her trachea. I called Apollo on Tues., May 7th but they couldn't see her until May 9th (4pm). I tried giving her water with an eye dropper to keep her hydrated and "liquidy" food, but she was having trouble swallowing. Corrin Toben did a "wellness exam" and said that she was severely dehydrated, could give her fluids, do lab tests, but I might want to consider hospitalization for a couple days. Been there, done that with another cat and knew she would never make it. I pointed out that she had a lump under her neck. Dr. Toben said "I am SO sorry!! I did not notice that! I am SO sorry!!" She said they would check her out, do an x-ray (no cost) and sample the mass (no cost) because she was curious as to what it might be. She told me to wait in the waiting room. When she came to me around 5:30, she said that the mass seemed to be cancer and I might want to think about saying "goodbye". "When?" I asked. "Now." she said. I asked how much it would cost for euthanasia and individual cremation and was quoted, around $450. I took her home, tried giving her water and mushy food. Even though she really wanted to eat, she just couldn't seem to swallow very well. I picked up the lab report and vet notes a day or so later after KC Wright had called me and said that everything was pretty normal, except the white blood count was somewhat high. The vet report said the mass on her throat was 3cm x 3cm x 3cm (the size of a grape or strawberry?)...and they hadn't noticed it until I pointed it out??? So SAD and AGRIEVED I took my sweet girl here! Clearly, they are about $$$. I took her to Glenfair Animal Hosp. on May 16th for Euthanasia and cremation. The cost was $215. I picked up her ashes presented in a blue velvet bag with a beautiful carved wooded box nestled inside and the word "RAIN" carved on the outside. read more

NOT WITH DR.T..He took his time, answered all my questions,took care of my boy and his ear infection,and I am NOT TAKING HIM ANYWHERE ELSE... To further elaborate on my previous review that I wrote in a haste without much detail. I brought my senior dog in SEVERAL times, totaling nearly 2k and Dr. KC did nothing! X-rays twice showed bronchitis, but he never treated it. Valley fever test was negative twice, but wanted me to continue to treat her for it even though it diminished her quality of life. The last time, and I do mean the LAST time we went in for labs, he came out and suddenly was concerned about cancer. She does not have cancer, BTW. Why even say something like that followed by the test is very expensive after I just spend almost 2k on nothing? When I left that appointment, we had a plan. Waited for results of tests which we again negative and the x-ray showed bronchitis (which he again did not treat), he stated he would not do any other testing on her except to screen for cancer, gave no other options except the one I refused to do because every time went went, it was something different. That was it. He gave up on treating or helping my dog in any way. Kinda defeated the purpose of being a vet, don't you think? To be clear, money was never an issue. I make enough to pay the unnecessarily high prices at this vet. It's the shitty care for my old dog I had an issue with. It was charging me for things I didn't agree to, like anesthesia after I gave her enough medication to drop a horse at home as instructed. It was dragging my senior dog to the scale by her harness while I was sitting in the lobby. It was the extra meds that were a surprise at checkout or the same meds that seemed to change price by the month for the same amount. It was the not doing anything that was in the best interest of my dog because you assumed I couldn't pay for it. Which I can and did at another vet right after you said you'd no longer treat my dog for anything. The amount of money I did pay for you to do absolutely nothing and continuously pad my bill with stuff you didn't even have the decency to speak to me about is deplorable, and you should be ashamed. You fed off my love for my dog and were ok with letting her suffer and/or die. You are a garbage human being and should be refunding me every single dime you wasted because you chose to keep her sick. She's doing great now, by the way. No coughing, and she's taking a monthly injection for her arthritis. Something you never even mentioned she could have. That's all I have to say here, for now. This will not be the last time you hear from me, though. Not by a long shot. read more

One of the last places not bought out by the AZPetVet corporation(you'd be surprised how many they've bought out)and you get that family vibe and real care for your pets vs the corporate profit over patient feel. When it came time to euthanize her, Dr KC was compassionate and reassuring that I was making the right decision for my dog. He really helped me through that terrible time. A few days after her death, I received a card of sympathy from Dr KC and the hospital. Then a few more days went by and I received a card from the Phoenix Zoo's Pet Celebration & Memorial Program informing me that a donation had been made in loving memory of my dog - given by Dr KC Wright and The Staff at Apollo Animal Hospital. We have brought our various dogs here for many years (for veterinary service, grooming, boarding, etc). Unfortunately, we were sad to learn (be told rather coldly) that since we did not have the early shots for our puppy completed at their vet clinic, our puppy is not welcome to board there. Well, on top of the fact that I am not permitted in to the appointment (due to their specific/chosen covid rules) - sadly we are moving on after more than a decade of patronizing them. We loved the veterinarians, hopefully they will realize the value in updating their covid policy -so pet owners can accompany their pets on the appointments and adjust their "boarding policies" (regarding shots) so they don't lose more trusted, long-term, valuable patrons. (We have close friends who have gone here for years, who have also left due to the on-going covid policies.) :( So sad... we used to love Apollo. *fyi- our puppy's shots are all current and legitimately completed, the issue regarding "not being permitted to board there" any longer was that the shots were not administered at Apollo. :( read more

Dr. K.C. Wright is awesome! He has taken such good care of our little girl (Leeloo a Lhasa Apso) over the years, as she is 11 years old now. Our latest scare was an enlarged lymph node with a high fever and low white blood cell count. Dr. K.C. was very thorough, and gave us daily updates since she had to be hospitalized with an IV and antibiotics. He even went in on his days off to check in on our little girl. As I sit here and type this, I'm concerned over my dogs health because of this veterinary hospital. I just called to get my medication refilled, the same medication he's been on for most of his life, and the refill may or may not be approved because he's overdue on his wellness visit. isn't part of his wellness to keep up on any maintenance medication and not just stop it dead in its tracks? My dog does not travel well and does not do people or situations like veterinary offices well, he also is hyper enough that he hast to have a slight sedative before he can be groomed. Almost 2 years ago now this place lost its groomer and has refused to replace that person or find any alternative treatment. So getting my ass chewed today over a wellness exam that's overdue when my dog hasn't been groomed in almost 2 years because of this facilities inability to hire, was laughable. Isn't regular grooming part of his wellness? So you want me to come in and spend $75 for a pointless exam but you can't even groom him? Yeah, gonna be looking for a new office, it's a shame because it's not the veterinarians that do this it's the girls at the front desk. There was a way and an attitude to approach me, and what I got this morning was a bunch of lip from someone who sounded like they could care less about the physical well-being of my dog. read more
