UPDATE: So we've been going to Western now for about 10 months or so. My Golden has had absolutely no issues with her hips. Fast forward to a few months ago. I have an elderly pug who was diagnosed with trachea collapse by our prior vet. We had gotten used to the coughing, shortness of breath, the weight gain. For several days the coughing had gotten worse where it was keeping everyone in the house up at night. I decided to take him to Western. So glad I did. Doctor Petcu confirmed to trachea collapse but the dog also had fluid around his heart which he suspected was the cause of the cough. Meds given. Teeth cleaning appt booked. Within hours this dog is 100% better. The cough has disappeared and he has pep in his step. He is more active then he's been in years. He no longer has to stop for a break to catch his breath when going outside. Thank you doctor for making our Bruno and Kamdyn better. So I wasn't sure how to rate my experience at Western. The visit had lots of highs and lows. So I'm just going to list all of the pros and cons. First, it was a late Saturday evening when my older Golden retriever started having issues walking. From previous Golden's I've had in the past I suspected she had dysplasia based on the way her body was changing. By Sunday morning she was struggling to walk and we knew we had to do something. Our normal veterinarian recently changed hours and weren't open a fast google search brought me here and they literally are a mile from the house. I call as soon as they opened and yes they could fit us in at 10:30. Now onto the list. CONS: When making the appointment they asked no questions why we wanted to be seen and no info on my pet. Weird. They were extremely busy and from the looks of it, it was just the vet, Dr. Petcu and office manager Renee. I didn't like the fact I couldn't go back with my animal and never saw her again until picking up, not sure if that was COVID related or policy. Had to leave her due to sedation and when we went to pick up had to wait another hour in a standing room only waiting room. Cost, $1500 we were on our way, but no stars taken off here. It would probably been more at Blue Pearl. But we received no documentation or invoice. PROS: They are open on a Sunday. Office was clean. Everyone was extremely nice. The vet seemed knowledgeable and actually found several things wrong that we had no idea about. Ear and vulva infections which he provided proof on. Diagnosis. X-rays and pics shown to prove dysplasia and infections. Treatment. Within 24 hours she is 100% better after taking the four prescribed medications. My dog Luna was sent here cause she's diagnosed of parvo. they're nice and very approachable. They are open every Sunday which is our lifesaver cause all the vets near us was close or need an appointments. when they confine my dog they are calling us the morning to let us know how she's doing. they even let us see her before we left all the time. overall i recommend this vet and we trusted Dr. Petcu and Renee :) read more

To prove that this animal hospital including the doctor violate's a person's personal information and confidentiality, the owner aka doctor just informed this entire website about the type of credit card I used in his office. Furthermore, he implied that I tried to commit fraud in his office. It is interesting that as a consumer I had concerns the day of, I voiced those concerns and was protecting my identity in his office; but my review on this website made him so angry about me telling the truth that he retaliated and accused me of two things: having and "attitude" and attempting to use someone else's credit card. If an attitude means that I am protecting myself from someone stealing my identity and warning others of this possibility because the front door receptionist puts my ID and credit card on a clipboard with documents that have ALL of my personal information in full view of others then I will continue to "have an attitude." The stealing of people's personal and financial information should not be taken lightly; however, it is clear that this business does. read more

NOTE: the 'vet responded with Completely INACCURATE information, more of a reason to not visit this 'vet'. The reasons just keep piling up!! I would like to start off by mentioning that when I first adopted my dog she had been taken to this specific vet to receive her shots. We figured it was a vet and we didn't have to pay the enrollment fee so we stayed. My dog started developing red bumps on her stomach line and her mouth area when she was about three months old. We took her to the vet and he said that it was normal for puppies to have these bumps along their stomach and that it was fine. He told me that all puppies get red infectious looking bumps on their stomach from time to time, it was normal. About two months after this, my dog started developing patches of missing hair. We went to dr. petcu and told him our concerns, and we even mentioned that we thought she had mange. He told us that there was no chance that she had mange, and to buy his shampoo that would be hypoallergenic, use a medication called prednisone, and to buy a special veterinary diet. Keep in mind that the shampoo is his own that he sells, and the veterinary diet is about $2.50 a pound. Now, we used this veterinary diet, shampoo and medication combination for about a month, and every day my puppy got worse and worse. We woke up one morning with her face bleeding and swollen to well over twice the size that it normally is. Worried that my dog might actually die, I scheduled her with a separate veterinarian, who I highly recommend(Sugarloaf Veterinary Clinic, off of cave creek and Sharon). When we came in the door our doctor acknowledged that we had a dog with an actual skin disease, and requested that we do skin scrapings and blood work immediately. We come to find out that our dog does have mange, and it has become very severe being as though it was untreated. This is five months after we walked in with a dog showing symptoms of mange with no attempt to even provide proper care. There was not one phone call placed to us to ask us come in because of our dogs condition with doctor Petcu. Dr. Petcu prescribed our dog a steroid that actually made her disease worse. Overall Dr. Petcu will never have my trust with any animal, especially my puppy. Due to his negligence in practice, my dog has suffered through an elongated period of pain. SIDE NOTE: Yesterday: 08.11.17 I visited this office to gain records of treatment and shots as well as speak to the vet regarding how disappointed I am in the quality of care he provided. Long story short: I was basically told that I'm the reason for my dogs condition being so bad, and that I can hire an attorney. After months of not hearing anything, after about 2 months of not seeing this vet, yesterday afternoon(pretty much right when I left the vets office) a report was made to the human society about 'lack of care for an animal and lack of treatment'. Today, 08.11.17, a humane society worker showed up on my mother's door(her address was in paperwork from doctor Petcu's office) wanting to see Una, my dog, and her medical history and treatment. I confronted an issue I had with this veterinarian and he called the humane society on me for 'not taking care of my animal'. The reason I post and even went to speak to this vet, is because I do not want other pet owners to deal with the extreme lack of professionalism as well as care from this 'vet'. The reason I'm so furious with the disgusting excuse of treatment my dog received is because of how much I care for my dog. NEVER VISIT THIS 'ANIMAL CLINIC'. I have mixed feelings about this place right about now. I've been taking my dogs there for the last 7 years, and always felt like I was treated right by both the staff and the vets, however about a year ago the primary vet left. Since then every time I go in there is a new vet on duty. I don't think I've had the same one twice in the last year. They seem fairly competent if not exactly tactful, but one of them was actually afraid of my dog, a 9 year old Basset with the most laid back temperament ever?? Hopefully they will settle down to a permanent staff soon but if they don't I may rethink my loyalty to this place. I want a single vet (or two) that I can trust my dogs to, not a revolving door of strangers. 12/2015 I originally reviewed last year that I wasn't happy about this place and unfortunately it only got worse from there. I don't think I ever saw the same vet twice in the last 2 years, and then they started trying to sell me something every time I went in. The final straw was one of my basset hounds started having skin allergy's. The vet suggested I buy a special shampoo which would help with itching. It was $30 a bottle, and when I got it home my wife pointed out to me that the label on the bottle had the doctors name on it as the inventor. How am I supposed to have faith in a vet when he's shilling his own specialty line of products. I took the bottle to another vet who said there wasn't anything in it that was harmful but that it didn't contain any itch relief properties I couldn't get from a shampoo at Petco. He said he'd never heard of a vet doing this either. I'm really happy with my new vet. 1/13/16 This review is in response to a message I received from Western Animal Hospital on 1/13. While I appreciate their reply to my concerns I would like to clarify a few things. First off as is evident by my original review, I started having reservations about the quality of care my animals were receiving months before my final post, however from the first post I withheld final judgment until my next visit. My second post was not malicious, but rather a clear outline of what occurred. I am sorry they feel that the post was not well-intended but it was posted for informational purposes based on my own experiences. Yelp is designed to help enable users to make informed decisions from reading the reviews of previous patrons of an establishment, not simply as an advertising source. Please see my other reviews as they demonstrate my willingness to provide positive feedback when warranted. I have not heard of the other doctors which they mentioned but I am sure that they exist as doctors frequently have products named after them but I would expect to find their products available either through retail outlets or other veterinarians rather than being sold at a premium price exclusively from the vet himself. They are of the opinion that it is unprofessional for one vet to say something negative about another. While it might be in poor taste if we were discussing something personal not related to my animals care, we were in fact discussing the recommended course of treatment which is why people seek second opinions in the first place. That they would follow up with the comment that it is illegal in addition to this is just plain silly. Posting my final review did not occur until recently as I was not anxious to write it. I was more concerned with having my dogs condition diagnosed and treated which involved finding a new vet, pursuing different courses of treatment and then moving on to Arizona Dermatology for Animals at his recommendation for specialized treatment. I do not question that eventually Western Animal Hospital would have reached the same conclusion as my new vet, or Arizona Dermatology for Animals given time, however my review was more on the professionalism of the staff and the lack of confidence it inspired. Fortunately for those reading these reviews, 6 days ago somebody who was extremely satisfied after having their dog treated for allergies provided them with a 5 star rating so readers now have equally good and bad reviews to ponder as they try to choose which vets see. (They will need to click on the hidden reviews tab as the new reviewer has not been verified as a reliable source just yet. This occurs primarily when a reviewer is new, not necessarily untrustworthy). I will not reply to further posts as I believe that doing so will not accomplish anything further at this point. I took my dog into this clinic hoping to have a foreign body in his nose possibly visualized and removed. I was less than impressed from the beginning. I had to sign in on a clipboard, and then sit in my car (I am guessing this was Covid protocols). When I was finally able to enter the clinic and meet Dr Petcu, again less than impressed. He says he looked up my dogs nose and there was nothing visualized, but I seriously doubt he did anything for my $55.00 office fee. I also had to pay the fee before they would see my dog, I am guessing that enough people got pissed off at him and left without paying, so they run your card first. I will never take another dog to this guy. He was more concerned about $441.00 worth of tests than he was about my dogs sneezing fits. Heart worms do not have anything to do with sneezing!! Funny thing the next day a blade of thick grass was sticking slightly out my dogs nose, I pulled on it thinking it was superficial, and about 4 inches came pulling out of his nose. Problem solved!! My vet was unavailable to see my cat till Friday and she was doing really bad. She had been diagnosed with fip previously. She was weak and needed to be put to sleep. So I go to Western animal my cat can't even lift her head up and he says I think we should do some bloodwork. It's obvious my cat has fip her stomach is swelled up. And my vet had did a tummy tap on her already. Or maybe he didn't understand what me and my vet had discussed already. So after he's done putting her to sleep. He leaves the room we have to go and find him and say are we able to leave. They didn't give us not even a rag or garbage bag to put my cats body in. I had to go inside the trunk of my car and get a Victoria's Secret bag to put her in. The compassion was UPDATE: My vet never turned me away, he was booked. My vet is awesome . I never neglected my cats medical treatment she had been going to the vet every single week. We had previously scheduled her appointment for Friday with my vet but she looked really bad so we wanted to put her down sooner so that's why I reached out to your place. And I would never ask for anything for free especially a autopsy. I had told my vets office about my experience they gave me ice packs to preserve her and a box . They helped me find a place midwestern University to have the autopsy done.I didn't ask them they just did it out of kindness. And I paid for the autopsy, you shouldn't be making false statements very unprofessional. The autopsy did come back positive for fib my veterinarian was correct. read more

I was visiting AZ with my dog when he developed an eye ulcer. This is par for the course with my Boston and I was very familiar with what to do, but he still needed to be seen. I was super grateful that Dr. Petcu was able to see my dog right away when no one else was available. However, the minute I stepped into the practice I did not have the greatest feeling. Just call it a gut reaction that something was not right. They took my dog right away and I had to stay in the waiting area. That is also normal in Covid times although it sucks. After about 20 minutes the vet came to talk with me - but my dog was still kept in the back for another almost 40 minutes which I did not like! I actually had to ask for my dog toward the end bc I was getting frustrated and worried he was alone. Actually, the more I think about that the more it angers me. They should have brought him out right after the exam like most vets. Anyway, the vet came out to talk to me at that 20 minute mark and ultimately he misdiagnosed my dog and said the ulcer was in his left eye when it was the right eye he couldn't keep open. I thought at first he was just making a mistake but he continued to say the left eye had the ulcer and the right eye didn't. He then gave me amoxicillin and gentemicin which has NEVER been prescribed to my dog for an ulcer, and I have seen many dog ophthalmologists in my dogs 9 years. It's usually oflaxacin or a host of other drops I've used. However, the reviews were decent so I paid (I was quoted $75 on the phone and then they tried to charge me $85 which I quickly let them know was not what I was told) and ordered the medicine online. At this point, although I did not find the vet or staff extremely friendly, they were helpful in getting that order approved and taken care of. I did have to praise them a bit, albeit not in my most genuine manner, so they would be nicer to me since they seemed annoyed by me calling post appt. Anyway, still feeling off after I left and pretty upset actually, I called Eye Care For Animals again and after pleading a nice lady finally agreed to get my dog in. I am so grateful because they confirmed the ulcer was in his right eye and that amoxicillin and gentemicin was not appropriate. While the latter can help infections it often makes ulcers worse. So happy I did not give this to my dog and went with my gut and years of experience with other vets. Ultimately, I'm sure Dr Petcu is competent. There were other owners in there who had good experiences and others who were new to the practice and, like me, were able to get in quick for an emergent situation. But when all other vets are so busy this now also makes me question. I personally found him to lack personality and empathy and unable to effectively diagnose or explain the diagnoses of my dog. At eye care they drew pictures, took their time, and even called me after to check on my pup. Petcu's office did not call to check at all. My whole point is to go with your gut. I didn't feel comfortable from the moment I walked in there and I am so glad I sought a second opinion. I would never go back to this place. The whole experience still has me feeling uneasy. read more

Dr. Petcu is a competent and caring vet who saw my dog that needed multiple extractions with short notice. Rather than doing only a couple extractions and waiting for the other teeth to go bad later, he fixed the root of the problem and now my dog is healthy and we couldn't be happier. read more

Went in for a visit today after rescuing a kitten that needed a check up. The check in staff was very helpful and made me laugh a few times. The Dr was very knowledgeable and helped guide me in the right direction on how to care for this kitten being that it was only 3-4 weeks old. I will definitely be back. Great Vet! read more
