When we first went to this place it was pretty good, have been back a few times and it really went downhill. Food quality is not good - my husband had to return his meal because it had a strange taste, not appealing. The owner took the charge off, but seemed almost offended that he didn't like it. This is a great place. It's a bit dark, with the hole-in-the-wall feel of a bar definitely off the beaten track, but the food is absolutely excellent!! I really like the bacon burger, and the cheese sticks and fried pickles are the best. There's even a hitching rail for horses. read more

The new owner is very enthusiastic; takes pride in using only fresh ingredients; genuinely cares about producing quality products for a fair price. Even though the place is extremely casual, the service is exceptional. All staff was friendly and helpful without being pushy. We ordered a lot of extras so we could try it, not a single thing was reheated or processed or frozen! All the sauces are house made and very good. This is a great local place. Food is made fresh and is so tasty! We've had the lemon chicken, meat loaf and several appetizers and have been happy with all. House wines are good. As residents of Acton, we were beyond excited to hear that The 49er Saloon was under new management and would be re-opening soon. In fact, we were so excited that we visited on opening day. Going in, I knew that I would have to cut them some slack as they ironed out the wrinkles. I agree with many of the other reviews and feedback I have read: - Operations were disorganized. - Service was abundant and overlapping. - Drinks were slow getting out. - Condiments & silverware should be readily available on the table. (Some of that is to be expected on your first day). With that being said, I liked what I saw. The place was clean and the servers were very eager and friendly. The owners were on-site and working hard to keep up. My biggest concern, that will make a difference as to whether this will be a favorite of ours, is the pricing. $15-18 for a hamburger is too much for this area. I might understand a higher price-point if the portions were comparable. However, the hamburger we ordered was average size with only about 10 French fries. At least it tasted good. I was happy to see a recent Facebook post that announced a revised menu and pricing. I am willing to give it several more tries especially since the new owners are receptive to feedback. I am rooting for them to get it right as we really do need a good restaurant besides Mexican food in Acton. Once they perfect the lunch and dinner, I would love to see a breakfast option on weekends. I can't wait to try the ranch dressing and more unique menu items that everyone is talking about. I hope that I can give 5 stars after my next visit. read more

Great food. We had the chicken salad, and butter burger. Both were excellent. Their dressing is home made, it is good. A little high in the price, but I think it is the best burger I have had in Acton. Worth a try, you should like it. The fire department eats here to. read more

Stopped in on a whim while in the area at dinner time. Wow! Corn fritters live up to their Yelp reputation. Burger was perfect, Salmon salad very tasty, homemade dressing exquisite. Don't skip the cornbread. Marie Callender's is no longer the standard. Finished off with the apple crisp baked in a cast iron skillet. There are no words. This place has changed hands and management a couple times. A while ago Sutters Mill occupied this place moving up here from the valley. It was amazing. Steaks MaiTies to die for. Don't know where they went but they are missed. 32 $ Steak and $17 burgers? At lunch? Now that said we ordered the Blue cheese burgers. They were fantastic the salad was fresh and the dressing was magnificent. They did discount the bill 20% so I think they realize it's a little up there for lunch. Ok, read this entire review and keep in mind that my family visited on day 1 of the reopening. We came as a party of 16. I know that's tough right from the start. I'm taking this fact into consideration but am moving on. The place was over staffed. It caused a lot of confusion. We ordered drinks but they took forever to get to us. The place isn't that big and there were (at any given time) 4 people behind the bar. Not sure if they are all bartenders or not but gin and tonics and beer isn't complicated. We weren't ordering Mojitos or Manhattans. My steak salad was good but missing the dressing. The steak was cooked medium rare, as requested, but very fatty. I asked for dressing and it never came so I stole my nephew's ranch from his chicken tenders. Now, let's talk about that ranch. Holy guacamole! That's ranch I'll be dreaming about for years to come. AHHHHMAZING! My mom got the meatloaf. Everything on her plate was excellent and worth the wait. The kids in our party got chicken tenders, also very tasty. The service is where the place was lacking. A great way to rack up a check is to keep the bar drinks hitting the table. They failed at that. Like I said, we were a party of 16. Let's pour them and pass them quick! Cha-ching! In conclusion, we'll likely patronize this restaurant again, not because it's 5 or 4 or 3 star but because it's one of the only spots in Acton. That being said, I'm banking on the staff and management getting their groove together and it being a better experience the next time around. Went there to have drinks and was charged $25 for 1 drink. It was a Moscow mule and I know even a double shot Moscow mule does not cost that much. I wouldn't recommend going there at all unless you want to pay $25 for 1 drink. read more

Found this place thanks to Yelp and so glad we did. What a great atmosphere topped with great service and fantastic food. I had the elk sausage with jalapeño and cheddar and a cup of chili. My wife had the western burger with corn fritters. Wow, everything tasted great. Spoke with the owner, Larry, very nice guy. This place is alright considering there's not much else in the area, but it would be devastated by any real competition. The service is not fast and they use rusty serving dishes as part of their theme. I got their butter burger. The burger tasted great, but soaked completely through the paper it was on. After I finished I lifted up the paper to find a gross rusty dish, like an old gold sifting pan. Also far too expensive for what it is. There is another pricey American food stop near by named Vincent Hill. Nearly the same prices, but a huge difference in what you get in quality and service. read more

I heard the 49er Saloon has some new owners. So I decided to get 8 of my hungry biker friends to go for a ride and then have lunch at the 49er Saloon. The bar tender lady ( Michelle ) heard us pull in and knew there was going to be some hungry bikers ready to test the new owners food ( and it better be good ). Walked in told Michelle how many people and she got are table ready quick (that's a plus). Ordered some drinks to test out her mixology experience (Bloody Mary's) and they were great just like she said they are. Now its time for the food, let's see what they have to offer (lot's of good choices). So we all try out the burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The food comes and it looks great, large portions, tastes great and no complaints from any of my friends. (that's a plus in my book). We ride every week to a different bar and grill to eat and drink from awesome places you would not even know existed and meet the best owners giving it 100% to make there place put out the best drinks and food. We were taken advantage by the server/manager we were offered a "Salmon salad" because they don't have the Salmon meal till after 3pm.It cost $10 more than the other salads but we weren't told that it was just a bunch of side orders costing more than the meal would have.The server/manager ordered a side salad,a plate of green only, side of avocado, and a small side of Salmon. The kids ordered 1 chicken tenders to split we asked for green beans no fries and it came with a drink. We were charged full price for the chicken even though we didn't get the fries,and weren't offered a drink for the kids plus $3 extra for a side of beans. So that was $11 for a kids meal and never got the drink.The total bill was over $42 for a salad and a kids meal. I feel we were tricked when ordering.
