Sunday between 2-7pm for Happy Hour is ideal for being able to nosh on small nibbles for a 25% discount at the bar. HH is also Tuesday-Friday 4:30-7pm. Only exception is on "holidays". HH: 1) Jamón Serrano: Spanish cured ham thinly sliced. Deeply red brown, meaty, with a fermented, salty sweet porkiness and bit of luscious fat ringing the edges. Cornichons, and summer ripened honey dew melon respectively added a pickled, acidic crunch, and dulcet, fruit, juiciness. Not as fat marbled, plush and deeply porky as Jamón Ibérico de Bellota where pigs are fattened on forest strewn acorns, but still a nice nosh. 2) Shrimp Escoffier: Three plump, moist shrimp tail on in a creamy, buttery Sauce Velouté enriched by dulcet Jerez with its sweet, woody, oxidized fermentation. Velouté was sopped up by slices of the house Bread. Btw, Georges Auguste Escoffier (1846-1935) was a legendary French culinary artist known as "the king of chefs and the chef of kings." 3) Stuffed Mushrooms: Button Mushrooms topped with tomato tasting mostly of French thyme and whisper of garlic swimming in olive oil, baked till soft in a metal escargot pan. 1-3a) Claudia's Grenache, Reyes Winery, Agua Dulce, Ca 2014: Mellow, full bodied red, blackberry with a brown sugar toastiness due to hot summer temperatures. Lower acidity and tannins. Steve, the bartender, was very accommodating and thoughtful in a casual friendly way. When I asked for a wine recommendation to pair with the 3 dishes leaning toward a light red, he let me sample 2 wines to decide for myself. Dinner 5-9pm: 4) Black Bean Soup: Black beans are puréed in chicken broth enriched by cream. Pepped up by fresh ground black pepper. 5) Canard à l'Orange: Extra meaty, substantial duck in a well toned, solid, compact body. Duck was a touch over baked so the meat lost its lushness and dried out the duck, but still acceptable. The skin is crisped and finished in high heat with Grand Marnier orange liqueur. The sauce seems to be a combination of duck pan juices, touch of orange juice, and Grand Marnier for a sweet, citrus fattiness. Garnished with poached orange segments and refreshing orange slices. 5a) Bit over cooked, soft carrots tossed in sugar, salt, & butter. 5b) Pommes Dauphinoise: Potato au Gratin is slices of boiled potato in rich cream and well aged cheese. Touched with earthy garlic and baked to allow all the flavours to infuse. Couldn't sense a soupçon of nutmeg in Le Chêne version, but decadently, very excellent. 4-5b) Claudia's Grenache 6 Soufflé au Chocolat: Fluffy, airy, slightly gooey, very chocolate forward classic French dessert. The sides of the ceramic ramekin became extra hot so the outer perimeter of the Soufflé was crispy. Watery chocolate sauce for extra chocolatiness. Overall a good, old school version of bistrot French. Hearty, cuisine bourgeoise. Staff is responsive and attempts to be proactive. I came to Le Chêne in 1987, but the food didn't impress me enough for me come back. Fast forward to 2026, Le Chêne is worth returning especially in the dark winter months when good solid food seems so de riguer. 4- stars

I"m glad to have gotten the aioli on the side, as a little dab on a few of the bites was enough for me to try, and I found the tacos to be rich enough without it -- but don't get me wrong, the ailoi had a nice flavor and you might be all in. The other recent change is the unfortunate fire that took away several buildings across the street from the restaurant, including an historic theater. People at the bar, and generally around town, are really feeling the loss, and it's the right time to show your support for the businesses and the community. Even if the poutine has vanished for the time being, I'll be back soon to try something else interesting from the menu of very interesting choices. Caution This establishment has a nice atmosphere with the exception of The owners A.K.A. servers. She has a tendency of adding accelerated pricing on certain small items without discussing it with you first. Also, we would like to mention, even though our small service dog Is a necessary evil for epileptic attacks to notify help. The owners said that it's not a service dog unless it is on a leash . Intoner words they are telling people they will except a license service dog only if it's on a leash. And any other medical condition other than that is unacceptable in their establishment , unless it's on a leash and a medical condition of epileptic does not matter to this establishment. So, we were asked to leave. If you want a good time and the steakhouse that accommodates and appreciates their customers. There's one right down the road another 15 minutes up Sierra Highway. If it wasn't for the food here I would have given this place a one star sadly. Our server was speaking way too fast and she would dissapear for long periods of time while its slow. Not to mention the fact you can easily see that this girly is doing some kind of hard drugs like the rest of Acton. I just didn't think they would hire one who does that. However, the place has been around for a long time and the rumor is that it is pretty darn good so I figured I would try the lunch menu. I will be returning this weekend to try the dinner menu and report in on any differences that I may find because this lunch experience was somewhat unique and definitely worth writing about. Upon entering, I was washed over with a wave of nostalgia. It reminded me of all of those semi-fancy places I got to experience with my parents in the 1970s from the lighting to the ambience to the music to the general overall feel, which is very welcoming. And if you are as old as I am, will definitely take you back. And that is a great way to get an appetite started. However, that's when things got a little strange... On a Saturday afternoon, they had exactly one young lady tending bar, working the grill, and acting as a server for not only the interior but for the outside patio area. I'm not sure whether or not this is a gimmick or just a very inefficient way to save money, but let me tell you that that young lady worked herself crazy to take care of everybody and under the circumstances did a fine job of it. Unfortunately, the grill is out in the main dining area and an open fire grill unattended can create somewhat of a safety issue. In addition, an old gentleman well into his cups decided to go over and place his face 6 inches above the food that was currently being cooked, which I thought was a little unsettling. Based on all of this, I decided to order a cheeseburger in that I did not want to risk $50-$60 on a steak that was not going to be attended to consistently. That, dear reader, will come to pass this weekend when I go in for dinner this weekend. Now that we have a basic understanding of the layout, I want to mention a few awesome things: The cocktails were very well made. Generous pours, but they didn't overdo it and the result was delicious. I, myself, enjoyed a Mai Tai. The salad bar was modestly stocked, but did not have a bunch of unnecessary, ridiculous items that people seem to think makes a salad taste better. They also had a soup of the day. But, at 95° outside was not on my list of things to eat. Again, that will be Saturday. The cheeseburger was surprisingly delicious due to the fact that I don't think it was looked at more than twice and flipped more than once, but it was pretty darn good with a great char, and medium as ordered. Upon requesting the check, it was noticed that the dinner salad listed on the menu at $7.99 was charged at $25. After three different conversations, the overworked server / cook / bartender realized the error and immediately made things right. All in all this place is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. The research I did shows that the locals just love it. You can go on a classy date or something casual with some friends, and you will still have that sophisticated, refined throwback to an earlier time when going out to dinner was truly an event. The only concern I have is for a staff member having to deal with several people and wear several hats with no backup whatsoever. The inability to stay on top of a grill that is consistently going in the main dining area is a safety concern, but not the fault of the server herself. This is a management decision and I would definitely recommend that a second person is always on whether it is lunch or dinner. She did mention that in the dinner time cycle, there is another person who comes in to assist and that is the reason I'm going back Saturday. I want to see how the dinner turn and burn works because the burger was really good and I imagine that the steaks are gonna be just as good as everybody says they are. It is definitely worth a visit. Until then....

My husband and I had a date night and remembered how much we liked the beer, so we decided to check out the Lancaster location since they also serve food. When we walked in, the place was packed and there were only two girls working the entire floor. Even though they were clearly super busy, they were still very friendly and upfront that there would be about a 15-minute wait for a table. We appreciated the honesty, so we waited patiently and eventually got seated. We found out that the Lancaster location doesn't always have the same beers as the Palmdale brewery location, so unfortunately they didn't have the Waterfront Lager we loved. We were a little bummed, but our waitress gladly brought us samples so we could find something else we liked. We ended up ordering a lighter blonde beer since many of the others were too hoppy for our taste. We also tried their handmade mango and pineapple micheladas and WOW! both were so good. The food was delicious too. We ordered the totchos (loaded tator tots), 6-piece hot wings, and the Asian sliders. Everything came out fresh and flavorful. Even though they were slammed busy, the waitresses continued checking on us regularly throughout the night. Overall, it ended up being a really great date night. The ambiance is casual, fun, and welcoming, and both locations gave us excellent service. Lucky Luke is definitely going to become one of our regular date night spots moving forward!

They also had a water bowl for the doggies. Food is bar food but elevated. They had a variety on the menu but mostly burgers. We got the pretzel to start with and I got the chicken sliders with tater tots. Service was very fast! Pretzel was good, cake with cheese sauce. The cheese sauce was ok. The Korean chicken sliders were amazing, there were 2 but it was more than enough.

Nevertheless, I did manage to talk Mr. Picky into heading out east a significant distance to try the place because I had a backup plan in case they were closed. Our waitress was Tiffany and I cannot say enough good things about her. She had a great smile, had good energy, and bent over backwards in order to meet our requests and ensure that we enjoyed eating at the restaurant. We started with the soup du jour which was Chicken Enchilada. Wow moment. Yummy and one of the best soups I've eaten in a long time. Spicy, not too spicy, filled with corn and beans and cheese sprinkled on top. So, so good! Gold star to the genius chef behind that recipe. We unfortunately arrived on a day when they had a shortened, reduced menu. We had driven a significant distance to try the Firecracker Chicken which was not on the abbreviated menu. However - Tiffany to the rescue - our waitress asked the kitchen staff if they would prepare it for us, and they agreed to do so. Wonderful cooperation in the back and on the floor. Mr. Picky liked the chicken, we both thought the mashed potatoes were pretty good, I tried the squash side vegetable and enjoyed it very much because it was seasoned well, we liked the cornbread with honey butter, but our tummies ran out of room and we had to take the baked beans home with us. (Hint for a fabulous breakfast, somewhat English style, is to get buttered toast topped by fried eggs and then loaded up with piping hot baked beans spooned all over it. There is a good use for these leftovers :-) !) Soft folk music was playing in the background, or actually I think those were hymns played folksy style, very cute. We finished by sharing a large scoop of their homemade salted caramel ice cream, and liked it. The place seemed very clean, comfortable seating, not fancy, but a perfect fit for the menu. I had no idea there was a religious college out east, this one is Baptist, nor that they had a restaurant where the students can work, but it's a great idea and a good way to integrate the community with the school. Overall, we both said we would go back to try other things.
