Funny enough, I came here for Cinco de Mayo and this was a horrible experience!! I knew to make a reservation ahead of time trying not to be inconvenienced but boy was I wrong! I had my reservation for 7 and arrived early at 6:40, I knew that I wouldn't get the table but I was early so I just decided to wait inside, BIG MISTAKE! Checked in with the manager where he told me it would be about a 20 minute wait or so which was fine, no waiting area so I was able to strand by the bar, not a big deal! After about 30 minutes of waiting I am seeing how busy it was getting and I am waiting with another two person table by the bar, when we both see a woman walk in and asked if they could accommodate 4 people to which the manager goes "do you have a reservation ?" And she says no, didn't matter as he replies with "okay we can accommodate you give me 3 minutes for this table to pay"??? At this point I am now upset, first of all, we had a reservation and have now been waiting for nearly 45 minutes for something that should have been ready at 7 for and the table who I was waiting with also took this badly and walked out, my wife asked the unprofessional manager how it is possible for a 4 person table with no reservation to be sat so promptly but he has 2 two person tables waiting standing by the bar for a long period of time? This manager replies with "well I can't break the four top table and give it to the two tops"?? Like you can't sit the 2 reservations waiting to be sat for an extended period of time? Nice little set up, decor was cute and service was wonderful. They have a prefix menu, drink and 3 courses. It was filling that we took our dessert home. And of course we ordered apps on top of that cause, hey, who doesn't order with their eyes?! Empanadas delicious. Flavorful. Guac fresh. Skirt steak got me!! I stopped in prior to a concert at the old Westbury music fair. Time was tight but server Fatima was polite and on point. Drinks were good, the Chardonnay was way better than most house chards and the food was excellent. It was a breeze. Also: the interior is clean and spacious and has a nice, breezy feel. Bad Business- Don't take reservations if you can't handle them and won't honor them!! Clearly Cinco De Mayo is going to be a busy day for any Mexican- Cuisine Restaurant. Considering this restaurant has the holiday for a name you'd think they'd at least be prepared! It's not their fault they are a small restaurant, but the manager has something to learn about customer service. We had a 7pm reservation for 2ppl. We came in about 6:47 hoping to beat the other 7pms knowing they might be a little backed up. We walked in to a very crammed busy front area and a man who seemed to be the manager/host walking around very frantically. I think he should have had a host/host for a day this busy. I also noticed right away about 8 people behind the bar. Any restaurant with good organization doesn't have the servers making their own drinks on a day as busy as this! Anyway the host came up to us after a couple minutes and we checked in, he made a point to say we were early which we knew, we didn't expect to sit early. He said he was a little backed up, that was a huge understatement. We then proceeded to wait crammed against the bar and the wall, the wall also noticeabley smelt bad like when someone cleans with dirty mop water (If you've worked in the restaurant industry ifykyk). From there I could see the reservations which were out in the open on the hostess stand. I saw our 7pm reservation along with one or two others and 2 7:30's. Meanwhile none of these tables were reserved or ready. Every table was being sat at and there was a man ahead of us waiting at the bar, I should have noticed from the frustrated look on his face that we should just leave. A couple came in behind us as a walk in and he told them about 25 minutes, they waited. Another group of 2 also got told 25 mins and left. At this point it's about 7:15 and we're still waiting for our 7pm. Then a women comes in and asks about a group of 5-6, he tells her uhhh im not sure about 30-45 mins. I keep thinking to myself this estimates are so off. The man from the other couple waiting at the bar actually tried to follow her out and tell her it wasn't worth waiting because that wasn't a real estimate, but she didn't hear him. The front is becoming exttreeeeemely crowded and uncomfortable with all the people this man has waiting in this small area. Mind you all this man who I believe to be the manager did this whole time is walk around in circles and visibly count the people waiting as if it should reassure us he's working on it. Now it's about 7:25 (25 minutes after our reservation and almost 40 minutes of waiting bc we came in early). The best and most disrespectful part happens. A woman comes in and asks for a walk in of 4, this happens 1 inch behind me and the manager tells her a few minutes. a FEW minutes??? I think to myself is this guy really gonna do what I think he is. I'd understand maybe if we were a walk in, but we were a reservation. I see a table of three getting ready to pay and he goes to the woman who had just walked in and says I have a table paying right now just give me a minute. I turn to him as we're arm and arm and say, "excuse me are we not going to get the next available table??" He literally with no apology only says, "Well thats a four, your only a two, I can't give you a four," to which I replied "we are a reservation waiting 30 minutes and that is a walk in that JUST walked in" to which he said " I can't do that". If he can't do that maybe he shouldn't have taken reservations or planned ahead!!! Mind you most of the bigger tables were 2 tops pushed together, so he probably just didn't leave room to adjust the tables. Regardless I had spent the last 40 minutes looking around and see a table of 6 with only 2 people sitting the whole time, nothing on the table but water and chips, so this same manager who completely disregarded our reservation and refused to seat our 2 at a 4 top sat 2 ppl of a party of 6, without anyone else in their party there and in turn wasted that whole space for over 40 minutes. To make things worse this man didn't apologize or even offer as much as a drink at the bar for waiting, when I told him it was bad business he raised his voice over the crowd of people he had waiting to say " I'm sorry you feel that way" That alone should show that he has no business sense. I was speaking at a normal tone discreetly and he decided to raise his voice and bring attention to everyone in that area there was a problem. I'm not sure if the man we encountered is the manager, owner or simply a host, but I now see why the yelp reviews are so low. I wish I looked here first instead of just at the Google Reviews that are more easily inflated. All I have to say is I love Mexican food and if I had a good experience I would have been a regular customer, but based on the looks of the faces at the people at the tables, I'm not sure the experience would have been good at all. read more

First things first, Anakin is one of the best waiters we've had in a long time. Absolutely loved him and he made our time enjoyable. We were being adventurous and stumbled upon this restaurant. It wasn't too busy for a Sunday night and we were hesitant but decided to come in. The decor gave old school Mexican restaurant with the mix of some modern touches. It was decently sized inside. We opted for the restaurant week menu but also got the queso fundido and it was delicious. For apps I got the Maryland crab cake and it was so good I forgot to take a picture. My bf got the empanada and he loved it. For dinner I got the Bandeja Aztecs and it was good, not the best steak I've had but had good flavor. He got the tacos and loved them. For dessert we got the flan and crème brûlée. The crème brûlée was more of a thick custard rather than a smooth texture. The flan was flan and you can never go wrong. Staring off with a solid 4 stars... This place was just terrific. Close to home, easy entry and exit off of Old Country Road and plenty of parking. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the hostess / server. Just the way I like to come into a restaurant. This shop is big and there are plenty of tables. Not terribly busy when we got there but it was early and people were coming in through our dinner. The tortilla chips and delicious sauces made me eat more than I wanted to but... There I was, a prisoner to delicious food. For appetizers I had the Nachos with a cheese tampiquena sauce, jalapeño pepper and chorizo, and my wife had the Guacamole. Both of these dushes could easily be shared. They were delicious. You can taste the freshness and you know these items are made to order. Throughout out our appetizers our server kept making sure that everything was good. I promise you, everything was good. Now the main dish. A steak with vegetables for my wife and a beef burrito for me. Both these items are easily shareable. Again, both delicious a big beef burrito with plenty of yellow rice and beans. The steak was also cooked perfectly and came with rice and beans. Really happy here and want to come here with a group so we can order more food and enjoy sharing. However the person still wrote my information and adjusted the reservation. They called me at 5pm the day of, to tell me i was not going to be accommodated until 9pm. 9pm was too late and they said they couldn't do anything about it. Eventually i asked to speak to the manager yessenia. She asked what happened and said she would call me back. I never received a call back from her and when i called back to speak to her the gentleman on the phone Frank I believe was his name said she was busy and could not pick up the phone. We started off with some guacamole and a chorizo appetizer. Mmmm! Both were super delicious and fresh. The guacamole was fresh and chunky. The chorizo was delicious! I had a tiny bite and the flavors were magical! For my meal I had shrimp tacos! The dish consisted of three large tacos and rice and beans. The tacos were so flavorful! Just the right amount of spice and sweetness. The balance was on point. Other dishes ordered were steak, fajita combo, crab stuffed shrimp, and a spicy shrimp dish (can't remember the name). Excellent Mexican Cuisine!!! Came to celebrate my Father's birthday with the family and everyone had a great time!!! I ordered a surf and turf special, which I could barely make a dent in after having their fresh made guacamole and the appetizer sampler platter. But the steak was Superb and the shrimp were perfect. My wife had the veggie fajitas and the plate was sizzling as it was brought to the table. "Delish" according to her! The ambiance in the restaurant is also great! Spanish music and decor around the restaurant and bar add a final touch that makes the place truly spectacular. The staff and service are also great!! The owner greeted us at our table, asked how we were doing, and his young son also helps out around the restaurant and is a de facto mascot of the place. Dined here for cinco de Mayo with 7 other members of my dinner group. The place was extremely noisy and packed, to be expected on this day each year. Our reservation was honored and we were promptly sat. They had a lot of large parties, but we were cramped together. I spent much of the meal worrying about everyone scurrying past my aisle seat with pitchers of sangria and trays of sizzling fajitas. A mariachi band played, which is always great, but they crowded the very narrow walkway where waitstaff had to pass through to serve food. The entire experience was sensory overload. Three of us orders the enchiladas mixtas and they came with a generous helping of rice and black beans. The servers were overextended, running all over and serving a lot of large parties. While our server didn't have much time to stop by and check in on us, he entered our order correctly and we were all satisfied with our meal (except for one person who consistently tries to get comped when we go out. It didn't stop her from eating it all! She is not long for my dinner group!). They ran out of current menus, so they gave out older ones, where prices were different. Their menu online is also outdated with prices. They should upload a recent one or not post prices on their online menu at all. This caused some confusion when settling the check. They explained they were still working out the kinks of their recent opening, such as what their customers wanted and how much of each item on the menu to order, as they wanted everything to be fresh and not sitting around. Staff was also very attentive and nice - refilling our waters, cleaning off used plates, and chit chatting with us. Food was good; had the seafood platter, salad, various cuts of steaks, and dessert. Cinco de Mayo: The one day a year when everyone's a little Mexican. So what's better than celebrating the day by having a meal at a place that's basically named after the holiday? A lot of things are better, actually. The night of May 5th I dined at 5 de Mayo and boy was it a forgetful experience. Now before I go any further, I know a Mexican restaurant on Cinco de Mayo is going to be packed. But if you are said Mexican restaurant you should be prepared for this. It didn't feel like 5DM was. Taking reservations was nice, but you could tell from the start that things were getting a little overbooked. I got there with my buddy about ten minutes before our reservation and it was easy to see that the hostess was on edge when she said "We're gonna need those 10 minutes." No problem, and better yet we were sat before those minutes clicked by. But the table we received was squeezed all the way in the back of this already small restaurant. We were right on top of the backs of tables to my left and behind me while to the right was where the waiters placed orders and paid checks. Honestly, on any other night I probably would've spoke up, but I continued to cut them some slack. Hey, the live mariachi band was keeping my mind off of this for the most part. Ordering was next up and our waiter was sporadic in his drink retrieving (margaritas to celebrate the night) and the eventual checking on our meal, once food was on the table. Complimentary chips and salsa to start was nice, even if the chips weren't the freshest. Perusing the menu revealed some decent Mexican options and so my buddy and I split cheese quesadillas to start and then I went for the enfrijoladas with chorizo. The 'dillas came out fast, though they weren't anything complicated (cheese only on tortillas). They were tasty, but nothing special. It then took about forty minutes from that point to get our main dishes. I chowed down and found the enchiladas to be flavorful at first, but realized it was more due to the hot temperature of the food. The black bean sauce was tasteless while the innards of the enchiladas held minimal pieces of chorizo, which wasn't spicy and resembled hot dog more than the Mexican sausage. It was a bust to say the least. My buddy went for fajitas and said they were good, but that he's had better. When it was time to pay (by the way, pricing didn't match food portion, just sayin'), I figured I'd try for 10% off the bill with the Yelp checkin. Nope. Due to it being a holiday that was a no-go. I understand why, but it doesn't say any exclusions so maybe that should be added in there? Either way, we lucked out because our waiter only charged us for one margarita (and I'm pretty sure that was by accident). It was the final whack of the proverbial piñata for the evening. Overall, 5 de Mayo falls short of what you hope for, especially on its namesake holiday. Perhaps things run more smoothly on a non-holiday, but the food really wasn't anything spectacular. This place was recommended by Open Table when I did a search of restaurants that were nearby with available seating. Due to the current situation, establishments have a certain capacity for dining in so i was very happy to see there were available time slots in the late evening on a Friday night. I confirmed my reservation and arrived on time. When I walked in, I could see it was a somewhat busy Friday night considering there was limited seating capacity. There was only one employee behind the bar who saw me enter. I did not see anyone else initially. He asked me if I wanted to order something to go but I stated I had a reservation and wanted to eat in. I was told to wait a moment. I was given a seat by the bar entrance which was fine. The other alternative was a lone table in the middle of the dining area. The tables were set up in a way where the middle area of the dining room was mostly empty and all seating was against the walls for distancing. ** All employees were wearing masks Two employees came to my table to take my order. One took the food order and the other asked if I wanted a drink. For my appetizer I asked for the Chorizo toreado and for the entree I order the pork chops. For my beverage i Just wanted a soda. Minutes later one of the employees informs me that they had no more pork chop without any apology at all. As an alternative I opted for the the bandeja azteca. It was quite some time that passed and I still did not get my beverage. Luckily I had water at the table. Later on a female server asked me if I wanted anything to drink. I told her I was waiting for the soda I ordered before. One of the servers brought a soda while I was eating my appetizer and apologized. As I was finishing up my appetizer, an entree of carne asada was brought to my table but was not the one I ordered. I was confused for a moment and they realized they made an error. They told me to wait a moment and brought the dish back into the kitchen. They eventually brought out the correct dish. The employees were good about checking on me from time to time. More so after some of the mistakes were made. At one point a gentleman dressed different than the servers also checked and asked if everything was all right. He may have been a manager or owner but I am not sure as he never introduced himself. The food was very delicious. The chorizo appetizer was very savory and hit the spot. The main entree consisted of steak as the protein and I was cooked nicely. I asked for rare but the receipt said medium rare. The meat was seasoned very well. I would definitely order those again if it were on the menu. I paid my bill and my two original servers wished me a good night. When I checked my Open Table app to give the review, the status of the reservation stated it was CANCELED. I refreshed the app Just In case it was a glitch as this has never happened before with any previous reservation. It still said the reservation was canceled. At this time of night the restaurant had already closed for the evening and I figured I could clear it up the next day. I then get an email from Open Table basically saying I was a NO-SHOW for my reservation which explains why my status was CANCELED online. The restaurant marked me as a no-show yet I was never contacted by anyone at the restaurant at any point regarding my reservation. Since I got seated I thought I was properly checked in. There was a form to fill out online if I felt my no show status was an error. I had to basically prove I actually ate there. Luckily I had a photo of the actual bill (I paid in cash so there was no electronic or paper receipt) which I provided the ID number of the transaction and I listed the food I ordered. Open Table sent me another email later on saying they had worked with the restaurant to correct the records. This had never happened to me before and was a new experience to say the least. read more
