This was such an unsuspecting place. We came after a gym session and we were ravenous! Our table of 3 got complimentary chips and dip upon our arrival, which they kindly refilled for us too. Our water came in a small pitcher with lemon and plenty of ice, amazing!! The chips was a heaving amount, and we knew this place was not going to skim on their portions. I got the grilled steak that came with cactus, small portions of guac, salsa, spring onions, beans and rice and omg the steak was juicy and I loved the fatty bits on the edges. Everything was so seasoned, I cleared the whole plate... My bf and friend shared the meat platter for two which came with an assortment of meat (grilled chicken, pork, pulled pork, shrimp, ribs, and steak, and cactus) with cheese AND it came with an assortment of small bowls of rice, beans, guac, and salsa omg. Their portions are huge, the decorations are amazing with such an authentic feel. The servers checked on us and were super kind and we are definitely coming back. We didn't think we can find such a place in Long Island, especially since I'm from queens and near a lot of Spanish restaurants.

Huaraches
Barry H.

The flavors here are very good. They cook their meats, the shrimp, the vegetables with finesse. I'm a big fan of huaraches, which is not something I knew about before my experiences here in westbury (here and el nopal). What's not to like about a crispy pillow of thick tortilla with three types of barbecued meat atop? The salsa they put on the table is a little spicy but perfectly. Just enough for me to like and keep eating without discomfort. Bravo amigos!

Passion fruit mojito and margarita

Very great experience everytime I come. Servers are attentive and the food is fantastic!

Shrimp Burrito: $14.06 ($15.27 with tax). Take-out. Cut in half.

BLUF: 2.75 stars out of 5 stars. We visited El Mercadito for take-out and ordered: - Shrimp Burrito: $14.06 ($15.27 with tax). OK. The shrimp was very salty, but the guacamole was fresh. - Mole Enchilada with Chicken: $15.60 ($16.95 with tax). Not so OK. The enchiladas had a lot of dry and flavorless shredded white meat that depended on the mole for flavor. However, the mole was over-salted to the point that we stopped eating after a few bites.

True Mexican place with lots of good food to pick from. Their Birria taco was good. Their fajita (don't recall what they named it on menu) was very big and filling. We were only non Mexican here. Very welcoming, cute decor. Save a flight to Mexico, come here to eat instead. Parking is not easy, but worth it.

The food is so solid that I don't want people to know about this place. We've been searching for amazing Mexican food in Long Island and we hit the jackpot with El Mercadito! The Lengua and fatty beef tacos were delicious. I enjoyed some of my husband's birria tacos too, soup was heavenly. their rice and guacamole were also tasty! Service was good on a slow Wednesday afternoon, waitress was friendly and recommended dishes to us. Decor is adorable and bright - you can't tell how cute it is inside from the exterior storefront. Can't wait to go back for more tacos and a margarita.

Three tacos w/rice & beans $18 (Birria Taco was amazing!!)

Visiting NY for the weekend, I woke up and was craving tacos so I spent 30min looking up tacos in the area lol & most were just overpriced. A bigger food chain could never! The ambiance was so chill & the young man who served me was just the kindest! I had no idea what to order and he took the time to make recommendations which I appreciated. I was there on a Monday around 1-2pm I believe so it was fairly empty which was kinda nice. I just don't think I would have gotten the quality & quantity of food I got if I went to a bigger, more known restaurant which is why I love smaller gems like this. It was a nice solo meal & thank you for the authentic experience!!

I would definitely recommend EL MERCADITO the tacos are excellent & they will definitely fill you up I'll be back again to enjoy a great meal. Thank you

Amazing Mexican cuisine, just like you are in Mexico Tacos delicious, mole really delicious. Everything is so flavorful and yummy and if you like spicy, you can have it Service is always amazing. Bryan and the rest of the staff care about their customers. And this place is always busy (cause it is always great). Don't be too surprised if you have to wait for a table.....it is definitely worth the wait

Watermelon margarita
Rossana A.

Tacos were salty and greasy. The rice and beans were cold and the guacamole not freshly made. The watermelon margarita I ordered wasn't that great either. Had indigestion later that night. The service however was pleasant.

I've been going to the locations in the city before but I'm so glad they opened one up here. The drinks were delicious we tried the watermelon margarita, passionfruit sour, virgin Pina colada, and brisa de Lima. Made very well. For apps we got the grilled octopus and Nikkei ceviche. The grilled octopus came with two delightful sauces and some grilled mini potatoes. It was tender and flavorful. The Nikkei was like Peruvian tuna poke but I wish it was a little less salty. For mains we went all out. We got the matador combo and an arroz con mariscos and a full platter of jalea. It was enough food for 6 people with quite a bit left over. One of the standouts we never expected was the seafood rice.. the sauce it came in was rich and complex and creamy. Not like a paella, more like a risotto.. that was finished quickly everyone loved it. For the matador combo it is a huge amount of food. The chicken was standout juicy and came with a ton of sides like avocado salad, rice and beans, tostones, and salchipapas and fries. It was all really good and can fill up your party. The other fun food was the jalea, it's a fried mix seafood platter. I enjoyed the seafood used they had a mix of white fish, baby squid, calamari, clams, and yucca fries, all drizzled with this light but umami filled criolla salsa, which is a mix of red onions corn garlic and yumminess. Everyone was stuffed. Finally we had cake that I night and the cappuccinos we ordered were good as well. And the bill wasn't too crazy for 6 people with drinks. The only annoying part was that the roof was a bit drippy it rained and I felt occasionally drips of water on my head..

The food is fantastic. Service is always quick no matter how busy they are. Drinks are strong…read more Their green sauce is the best I've ever had. The portions are huge!! The restaurant was busy (always a good sign!), but we were seated quickly and treated with such kindness and efficiency. The service overall was excellent--friendly, attentive, and just a great vibe all around. And the FOOD... absolutely incredible. I had the skirt steak with rice, beans, and salad--10/10, full of flavor and cooked perfectly. My friend had the fish and loved it just as much. Everything tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and made with care. Between the amazing food and the outstanding service, this place is a gem.
