I think a good shrimp taco is hard to find because people tend to overcook it and it's rubbery but not here. Tried steak, chicken and shrimp and they were all delicious and different. This was such an unsuspecting place. We came after a gym session and we were ravenous! Our table of 3 got complimentary chips and dip upon our arrival, which they kindly refilled for us too. Our water came in a small pitcher with lemon and plenty of ice, amazing!! The chips was a heaving amount, and we knew this place was not going to skim on their portions. I got the grilled steak that came with cactus, small portions of guac,salsa, spring onions, beans and rice and omg the steak was juicy and I loved the fatty bits on the edges. Everything was so seasoned, I cleared the whole plate... My bf and friend shared the meat platter for two which came with an assortment of meat (grilled chicken, pork, pulled pork, shrimp, ribs, and steak, and cactus) with cheese AND it came with an assortment of small bowls of rice, beans, guac, and salsa omg. Their portions are huge, the decorations are amazing with such an authentic feel. The servers checked on us and were super kind and we are definitely coming back. Man this whole place is a vibe! I did not expect it to be so fun and great. Sorry it took me a bit to review this wonderful hidden treasure we left on a trip right after. But it left such a wonderful mark that I had to review it once I got back. We were greeted and giving complimentary chips. Servers were all on point with orders nothing was messaged up or missing/forgotten. The food is amazing I was drooling over each dish my family and friends were trying and they were all delicious. The staff is amazing they make you feel like you're part of the family you can tell they enjoy what they do and they do it with a passion and wholeheartedly. The service was great we got dinner and a show and got to sing karaoke with the staff what a wonderful day and it was raining so we had a blast. The flavors here are very good. They cook their meats, the shrimp, the vegetables with finesse. I'm a big fan of huaraches, which is not something I knew about before my experiences here in westbury (here and el nopal). What's not to like about a crispy pillow of thick tortilla with three types of barbecued meat atop? The salsa they put on the table is a little spicy but perfectly. The shrimp was very salty, but the guacamole was fresh. - Mole Enchilada with Chicken: $15.60 ($16.95 with tax). Not so OK. The enchiladas had a lot of dry and flavorless shredded white meat that depended on the mole for flavor. Mole sauce was rather sharp and one note with a mild spicy kick that you taste at the end. The filling inside only seemed to be huge chunks of chicken. It was quite dry and chewy. This would have been much better cut into smaller pieces. It was rather awkward trying to chew /pull apart big chunks of meat. I need a knife. Rice and beans. Rice was rather bland. Service. Quick and efficient. Ambiance. Casual, with Mexican inspired decor. This restaurant also has a Mexican mini market attached to it, next door. The Lengua and fatty beef tacos were delicious. I enjoyed some of my husband's birria tacos too, soup was heavenly. their rice and guacamole were also tasty! Visiting NY for the weekend, I woke up and was craving tacos so I spent 30min looking up tacos in the area lol & most were just overpriced. A bigger food chain could never! The ambiance was so chill & the young man who served me was just the kindest! I had no idea what to order and he took the time to make recommendations which I appreciated. I was there on a Monday around 1-2pm I believe so it was fairly empty which was kinda nice. I just don't think I would have gotten the quality & quantity of food I got if I went to a bigger, more known restaurant which is why I love smaller gems like this. If I could give zero stars, I would. El Mercadito more like el trashito. The worst bland flavor I have ever had. This is not Mexican food Mexican abuelitas would be upset with what is going on in this kitchen. I think they discriminate as well. Did not give us chips and salsa. The white meat in the flautas was terrible lacking every bit of seasoning. The only thing carrying every dish I got here, including the tostadas was the red salsa and the green salsa. please stay far away from this place and head to the city waste your gas money going to the city getting good Mexican food. We like to order in from a local eatery and today we decided to try El Mercadito in Westbury, Long Island Firstly this place is so damn cute, don't let the modest exterior fool you. The party is inside. Infact I can't think of another place that is already set up for a birthday party, like this one. We did take out and ordered the Mercadito Pack 6 family Meal, along with an order of nachos and a tree leches to share for the kids. This tray is huge and has plenty to feed a family of 4... for us, it will last us 2 more days for sure. Probably could have skipped the nachos, but they were so good! The tres Leches cake is just a hint of sweet and tastes absolutely delicious! Unlike most places where you get a mouth full of sweet this is true to its name and milky delicious. Oh man I have to update my review for Mercadito and unfortunately it is a negative one. I came back here on 3/31, and I thought highly enough of this place to bring two friends to share the taco experience with. After we placed our order, we waited for over half an hour and our food wasn't ready. One of my friends asked the guy (short man with glasses) if he could check on our order. He brushed my friend off with a half hearted ok. We waited an additional 10-15 minutes and our order still wasn't ready. We went to ask again and they finally brought our food out (we ordered to go). We were a little upset to begin with, but what happened next really blew the lid off. We ordered about 15 tacos total, and we had checked the prices of the tacos on their menu. The menu clearly states that the tacos are $2.75, but they charged us more (between $3-3.50) per taco, saying that the menu was outdated and that some items (such as the lengua) were more expensive. So we had to argue this point for them to lower the overall cost. In addition, the short older man with glasses also gave me an attitude, saying that I should know this because I've been there before. As if it's my fault that they don't clearly communicate their prices on the menu. Suffice to say that after this experience, I'm never coming here again. I can't deny that their tacos are good, but damn, if you treat customers with disrespect like that, then I got no problem going to Taco Bell. read more

Its buried deep in Westbury on Union Ave, walking inside its bright Mexican colors and the tables are adorned with Mexican art. I'm seated and I see a handwritten drink menu with assorted cocktails. I see "Blue Moon" so I'm assuming its beer. I'm told, its a cocktail? Interesting. One please. I ordered two tacos, one Chorizo and one Al Pastor. I also ordered a cheese tostada, something different. My "Blue Moon" comes out and man its blue alright. It even has a cherry?? haha, it was good but I'm craving cerveza at this point so I ordered a Modelo. The tacos come to me and they are amazing. Very fresh, I'm also brought two homemade taco sauces, green and red. This was a nice lunch choice. Next my Tostada comes out. Made with refried beans, mexican mozzarella and creama. This was a nice choice, something I wouldn't normally order. I'm a creature of habit, beer & tacos for lunch. The Mexican mozzarella was light and stringy, me being Italian I thought it needed more salt ;) I had a great lunch here, I highly recommend finding this spot in Westbury! read more

They never disappoint! The food is always AMAZING! Yesterday we had watermelon margaritas with chunks of frozen watermelon. The drinks were simply out of this world. We were treated by Don Jesus the patriarch to home made ice pops, one was pico de gallo and the other was pecan. The tres leches cake and the ice creams are made next door to the restaurant at the deli. This is a family owned business where everyone is involved. Had a nice meal here. From the outside this place is not something to look out. There's another place at the other end of the building also called mercadito and it's a store. So I was confused if I was even in the right place. But once I was inside it was a different world. It's a very cute restaurant. Decorated nicely. The painting is pretty. Food was great! I had enchiladas and loved them. Two chicken and two beef/cheese. Spicy and yummy. Mom has tacos that she enjoyed. The salsa that came with the chips when we first sat was fantastic. Really good Mexican cuisine! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that deter you. Inside the decor is colorful and vibrant. Went with my 2 sisters, and we ordered the taco platter (only available Saturdays), red pozole, and 2 orders of Chipotle wings. Let me tell you, the taco platter alone would've been enough with food to spare! It came with pork, goat, and steak, along w/ a roasted poblano, nopal, scallions, and assorted accompaniments. Also came with a side of refried beans and rice. It was so good and so flavorful. I initially thought the meat might need a hint of salt but once I added the salsas, it was perfect! The bowl of pozole was also huge and enough to share. It was my first time having it and I really enjoyed it. It is very filling though. The wings were ok but nothing special. They actually tasted like those flavored frozen wings to me. We also ordered drinks (don't remember the name) but it had vodka and some juices.
