I rarely give 1-star reviews, this is going to be only the 9th out of 358 as of this writing…read more However, after six mornings of breakfast at Commodore during a week-long stay at the Honeyrose, I've got to call it like it is: the service here is impressively terrible. It started off mildly annoying. On day one, I just wanted a croissant. Turns out that's not included in the "free" bonvoy/marriott breakfast, and they won't be flexible. Fine. The rest of the week I ordered the full continental: tomatoes, cheese, fruit, yogurt, ham, and (oh yes) a croissant - I'll eat the croissant and you can dispose of the rest I guess - maliciously compliant I suppose, but unnecessary and wasteful. That was annoying, but the rest? Just an awful experience. On day two, we never got water or juice so we had to ask a manager about our drinks, we had to get up to hunt someone down for butter after they dropped off our food and scurried away, then again to get the bill, and finally yet once more to get the bill fixed because they forgot to comp the breakfast. Days three and four somehow got worse. It was frequently 10+ minutes before anyone appeared. When someone did show up, they acted annoyed that we needed anything at all. One day we timed it: 14 minutes before a single staff member came back to the floor after seating us. On the one day we did have plenty of time to sit; we thought we would order morning drinks but the espresso martini we got turned out to be so bad we literally could not drink it, and it obviously had no alcohol in it. Despite our having time to spare, the staff managed to take so long to serve us that we ended up just trying to get out and not even arguing about the drink we couldn't stomach, we just wanted someone...anyone, to come around so we could get our check and leave. This is not a large restaurant and there were always at least two servers and a manager on the floor, yet the place somehow felt completely abandoned. Every staff member, including management, seemed aggressively disinterested in the fact that this is a functioning restaurant where people expect basic service. The space itself looks nice, but that's about the only compliment I can give. You'd be better off paying for breakfast elsewhere, even if this place is "free." I want to add an updated note: the last two days everything was remarkably better, so much so that the entire experience was different and it honestly didn't feel like the same restaurant. If our experience had been this way the entire time, it would have easily been four, likely even five stars. Hopefully they were just unusually short staffed or something and our last two days is more representative of the normal experience you can expect here. They do have gluten free toast available, which is also a positive.

The owner (manager?) graciously checked in with us and we told him everything was wonderful! The interior is uplifting with lots of green plants, floor to ceiling windows, and white lamps. That being said, we made the short walk from our room to start the day. Maison Boulud is one of several restaurants by chef Daniel Boulud. In addition to this location in Montréal, I believe there's another one in Singapore. The restaurant conveniently has an entrance off the lobby, though it also has its own dedicated entrance on the street. The interior was mostly empty when we arrived, mainly because it was a lovely day and most patrons (including us) opted to sit in their outdoor area. The decor is top tier - high end finishes with interesting art and pops of color throughout. The outdoor area was semi-enclosed with lovely views of foliage and a small pond with ducks swimming...aww! For breakfast, they offered the option of a la carte or their buffet. We opted for the latter, which was quite abundant. There was a great selection of traditional breakfast offerings like scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, yogurt, and fruit. They also had some interesting pastries and breads, plus an omelette station. Everything I tried was delicious. Service was great, we were taken care of promptly and despite it being self-service, we never felt ignored. Overall, I had a great experience at Maison Boulud. I don't think I got the quintessential experience as I was only here for breakfast, but I would definitely return for another meal.

I had the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and a side of the fries with Beschemel sauce and truffles and they were great, it's just it was a little too rich for me, that's all. I came in with a group of 6 and other members of our group had the ricotta pancakes, the Ratatouille Eggs Benedict and everyone enjoyed their brunch. It's a pretty small space almost like a cross between a diner and a bistro, elevated casual I guess. Service is brisk and the servers are friendly. I saw that they have a late night menu so maybe at some point, I'll come back to try it out.

There was also a yogurt parfait with berries and granola that was a perfect compliment to the carbs of my croissant. I didn't really get my coffee refilled so I'm not sure if that's all you get, but it was still a lovely coffee and I enjoyed dining here. They also have a really lovely outdoor patio that we finally got a moment to visit. I would have come for the patio alone, it was so lovely and everything I needed on a warm summer afternoon. Sometimes it took awhile for our server to come out and check on us, but we had the time so it didn't really matter. He was super nice and knowledgeable about the menu.

The grapefruit juice was good too, but I forgotten how bitter grapefruit can be :,) for my entrée I got the eggs Benedict with a side of potatoes, and this was cooked to perfection. The eggs Benedict still had that runny yolk with a savory hollandaise sauce while the potatoes were one of best breakfast potatoes I've ever had. The flavor was Herby and potato was firm enough to still have that crispy exterior but soft enough that I could break the potato in half with my fork. Another thing I have to brave about this restaurant was the service. Our waiter was so kind and funny and he was always coming back to attend to us and make sure that we had everything we needed. Really love this place and hopefully I can come back again for breakfast in Montreal!

Service is fast and warming. Had to confess that I did looking up this hotel before staying here and found this restaurant. Looked up the menu and I am a sucker for a good baked shank. Starting off with two types of bread with butter which was very good. Ordered the Lamb Shank and it was excellent. Not to be confess with beef shanks ( Osso Buco ) but just as tasty. Soft, tender and moist. Sitting on a bed of artichoke harts and potatos with brown gravy. Pros: Everything was good. Cons: My dinner partner had the stake and it was dry and tuff. Would I return? Yes and would order the shank.

It is an all you can eat buffet with coffee and tea service. In an addition I had a custom made white egg omelette. The buffet had all of the trational breakfast suspects like eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, etc. The Canadian specific items included crepes (the standout for me) and French pastries. The language is French primarily in Montreal. I had to brush some French out of the cobwebs of my brain. The restaurant was sparsely populated when we arrived at 7:30 am by 7:45 am folks were coming in droves. We did not feel in pressure to rush out the restaurant. Love a low-key, laid back environment... Food and beverages were excellent!
