I recently had my key get stuck in my ignition and was very much stumped on what to do. I looked up videos online to see if I could do it, and at some point realized, I need a pro. I went to a shop near my work and they wanted to charge me about $600 for the part and labor on replacing the ignition mechanism which in my opinion was waaaaaaay too much. I went to a locksmith and he was also stumped on what we could do to remove the key without breaking the key or the mechanism, and replacing or repairing the mechanism. I eventually found this place on Yelp. I called them, and the dispatcher told me he would call me back in 15 minutes with a tech potentially on the way. He did call and the tech was at my car in under 20 minutes. I explained my situation to both the dispatcher and the tech and they were both optimistic and friendly on taking on this job. The tech immediately pulled apart my dash, pulled out my stuck key. He analyzed the issue and made me a new key in less than 2 minutes. He also fixed my ignition mechanism and put everything back together as if he never took anything off. It was really very impressive. He charged me $185 and I was back on the road with a new key in no time. I didn't get around to reading reviews up until now when I actually write the review and it bums me out how harsh people are on this small company. Sure the van didn't have any logos, and sure, the gentleman that helped me didn't have a uniform. However, he did the an amazing job at a a great price point and that in itself warranted me to review this place. Overall: small businesses don't always have all the bells and whistles, but they will get the job done. Sometimes, better than the leading brand or big name companies. Service feels like a scam, technicians do not look like real techs, looked like it could've been one of their buddies. Nothing had the companies logo on it, not even the car, their uniform(which they did not have one), business card AND invoice . Sketchy. I had a bad experience with them, this was my first time experience with the lock smith so I had no idea about the cost system but I was told it's between 45 -85 dollars depending on the car. With that expectation I went with them and it was my mistake I didn't ask how much it will cost because I really wanted to get to work and get my car opened up. So called them and they said the technician will call me to set up the time and he did very promptly! He said he will be at the ki site in 25 mins and I said I will as well. But he didn't show up for next one hour!!! Then again i didn't had a reference of much it should charge so reluctantly I agreed as I needed to get to work to pay 179 Dollars (150 plus 29 dollar service charge)!! Later talking with the auto shop owner next door I came to know that they service should have been 40 dollars! The owner called the me the day after I published the original review and offered to open the suitcase with no charge. The same technician showed up later that day. Unfortunately he was not able to open it and instead broke the clip. Well at least he got the suitcase open. I still paid him what I felt is the fair value of the service. I updated the rating to 3 stars because 1. The owner did call me to remedy the situation which means he takes his reputation seriously which I respect and appreciate 2. The technician is polite. I would recommend the service as long as u ask carefully what u r investment may be before hand. I only gave 3 stars because 1. Why does the situation have to happen - I told the technician that I would leave a one-star review based on my first exp, and after talking to someone in the office, he still chose to charge me higher than what I think is fair. It's almost like they don't believe I will follow through. I wish we avoided the whole thing. 2. The suitcase buckle is broken as a result. Maybe that's the only solution. At first I thought calling oneself "5 star locksmith" was a bit on the nose, but Eli absolutely earned it. First, I want to say that when I interacted with him first I had not checked in on Yelp or mentioned Yelp in any way. I think that's important because he went above and beyond with no knowledge of whether or not I even use Yelp. I needed a couple keys made for the camper shell of my truck. I stopped by and he made the keys based on the serial number. He tried them and they didn't work. On closer inspection he noticed that the wafer in the lock was bent - someone probably tried to force the lock and ruined it. Bummer. But he had already spent the time and made the keys so I offered to pay but he said no because the keys didn't work. I thought that was super cool of him. Then he took an extra five minutes to help me find the name and location of a store on Oakland Rd in San Jose that sold truck accessories. Eli probably thought he wouldn't see me again because usually those replacement sets come with keys. I went there and they sold a replacement lock assembly for my truck... but no key. Odd, right? So back to Eli! He made the keys for me *again* and they were waiting for me when I arrived. And he only charged me for one key, though he gave me two. He still didn't know I am a rabid Yelper, and I hadn't mentioned a check-in or anything. Parking can get snug in the parking lot. It's a bit small. And it's easy to miss the location since it's tucked into a small office complex - so I included a photo of the sign for the complex so you can recognize it when you're driving by. I don't know about past people's experiences but this place is amazing. They really go way above and beyond in terms of customer service. We have a vacation home up north in the San Jose area. On our most recent visit we noticed that our glass French doors were jammed. I called the first locksmith company that came up on Yelp on a Saturday night. First thing Sunday morning at 7:00am the guys were at my door steps prepared to fix the French doors. It took them over 30 minutes just to get the door off because of the frame locking mechanism. Once the door was off they replaced the wheels and removed the old and rusty lock. They were professional, keeping me updated on their progress and the cost was reasonable. I would highly recommend them. TIP: they first quoted me $249, but when I asked for a small good faith discount, they reduced it to $185. So don't be shy to ask for discounts. Thanks again! read more

I should have read the reviews. The people on the phone and responding to 'request a quote' will give low "starting prices" on the phone and refuse to give any more detailed quotes unless a technician comes. The technician will then more than double the prices mentioned on the phone. There were so many miscommunications, so many different people on phones. Do not use this business. The technicians are competent, but the people running the business and getting your money, not so much. I suggested to the lady on the phone to implement processes where there is an invoice in writing before work starts. She said her manager is not available and I should call back a different time. The technician showed up at the house, opened the lock in 3 minutes, then took advantage of my old mother by charging her $309 dollars. I had to call the service multiple times to finally get a call (with hidden ID) from a 'manager' that tried to explain to me that the technician had provided a contract / invoice with the pricing BEFORE doing the work, which he NEVER did! The 'manager' continued to argue his point without any regard for what we had to say. He was unprofessional, lacked any business ethics and also said it would call us back, which never happened. I used the emergency service when I locked myself out of my apartment last night. The technician was roughly on time and able to fix my lock in about 10 minutes, so the service itself was okay. The pricing is highly deceptive. The Google ad says $50, so I just went with it figuring that anything in that ballpark would be fairly reasonable. When the technician arrived, he told me that for my lock type, which is very standard, the charge was $285 + $29 service fee = $314 and because their system was down they would not take credit card and I had to go to the ATM to get more cash. I get it that no one wants to be on call on a Saturday night and I might even have been okay with this price if that's what I was told upfront, but for a $50 sticker price to turn into $314 cash after you've been waiting for half an hour is really taking advantage of people in a crisis. ------------------------------ Revised: After posting this review, 5 Star Locksmith contacted me on Yelp to address the issue. Ron from Customer Service reviewed the call, said that the problem was the new technician, who should have charged $150, and sent me a check for the difference of $163. I called around for days to find someone who could make me a key replacement for a 2007 VW Jetta and everybody said they couldn't help me. Finally 5 star locksmith said they could do it. I asked over the phone repeatedly are you sure because I don't have time or money to waist. They came and cut a key Wednesday and stated they would be back Friday to program. Now they tell me they cannot do it and I need to go to VW dealership. I'm pissed. I'll probably loose my job. On top of that I waisted $110 for a useless key. I'm a new mother and just started work. A scam. I called and the repairman came out. I needed a battery in one remote, and I wanted to buy a backup remote. I was also hoping to program a third door remote on my garage. He wanted to sell me 3 new remotes for my garage for $450. He came down to $300 if I gave him a good review on yelp. I installed a new remote battery for $4.00. I haven't addressed the other two, but keyless garage door remotes sell for $25 and the door remote sells for 40. I am happy to install myself.
