Such a delightful suprise for Berkeley. The area to new lacks quality Mexican food but this was a unique option. The rib eye steak was a lil odd(that's y it's 4)but the pollo verde¿ taco was delicious. I also could've just been really hungry but I knocked that meal down. N as for the Birria tacos my friend knocked those down faster than a mike Tyson fight night. Also wish the drinks had sweet ice tea but win some lose some. read more

Highly anticipated the opening of this place with dreams of a Rico Rico in our neighborhood. But it was not to be. This place is for those who want a highly gringoized Mexican food experience. The tacos were bland and flavorless with no spice, little if any salt, and no salsa or hot sauce anywhere to be seen to liven up the otherwise dull flavors of the five different tacos we ordered. When the wife asked, "which did you like best?", I had to say "none of them". On the other hand, the chicken flautas were passable as the tortillas had a nice fry to them and the guacamole was decent (hence the two stars). But the flautas were supposed to be starters and the "starter" was delivered at the same time as the main course (tacos). And both food items were delivered before drinks. We had to remind our server of the drinks then she returned to inform us that only 2 of the ~15 taps were working. On top of this, 5 Tacos and Beer is expensive. Six dollars for a street taco that is $2-3 elsewhere seems excessive. Yes, it is College Ave., the interior is nice, and I'm sure the rent ain't cheap but still. . . oh, and the beer was $8 for a 12 oz. beer (that was not a high alcohol beer). For two of us it was $70 with tip. A very disappointing experience. Even though it is an easy walk from our house, we likely won't be back. Sigh. . . read more

We ordered the 10 Tacos (Family Pack), which they claim comes with: "10 Handmade Tortillas. 20 oz of Meat, 4oz of Cilantro, 4 oz of Onions, 8 oz of Salsa, 4 oz of Radishes, and 10 slices of Lime. Choose up to 3 different proteins/meats." Except they didn't give us the cilantro, onions, salsa, radishes or lime. 1-star, baby! read more

Gordos Taqueria is right down the road. It serves tasty, hot food quickly and at a reasonable price. 5 Tacos and Beers fails in all categories. The waitstaff seems to be completely clueless, the food is cold and incredibly bland, and the price makes none of that forgivable in the slightest. I went home and made myself eggs. Ultra California-style gentrification of Mexican food. Bottom line - good, not great, and costs too much for what you get. The good: interesting selection of high quality beers, and I like that they offer smaller size pours. Tacos were good, with fresh ingredients. Service was prompt and friendly, and the space is attractive. The less good: the tacos were quite small (I ordered two, but that wasn't enough, so I got a third) and are about $6 each. Tacos were not spicy at all, and not otherwise highly seasoned, so seem a bit bland to my taste and no salsa picante was provided or on the table. (I'm sure they would have brought some if I asked, but by the time I took two bites the taco was half gone.) I might go back for the beer, but probably not for a meal. Giving it four stars because nothing was bad, just not good enough to justify the prices. read more

Went here for lunch yesterday and I was blown away! The food was amazing, staff was ultra friendly and knowledgeable, restaurant was well lit and just had an amazing experience! Jeannine was our server and she was great, helped us with ordering (since I'd never been before) and took very good care of our group. We tried every taco they'd offered and cant wait to be back and do it again. Brunch is next! read more

Best tacos around. These are small tacos for around $6, so expect to have three. Nuts it's worth it. Great beer selections.

The absolute best Ribeye tacos on earth.. the service is great and comes with a smile.. Alejandra is the best server slash bartender.

We have really enjoyed this place every time we've gone. It was great for a family get together as well as lunch/dinner for two. For the family we ordered a couple of long platters of tacos which are placed in the middle of the table so everyone can choose their own. (We cut some in half.) Sides of rice, beans, chips, guacamole, etc are available. Add drinks and everyone is happy. Love their Quesabirria tacos! read more

The food wasn't good. The chicken taco was overly smothered in sauce, the fish taco lacked flavor, the chips are overly oily. The service was really frustrating - forgot several items, confused our order. We don't recommend it unfortunately. read more

Visiting from out of town, I had dinner here tonight and it was fantastic! The tortilla chips were the best I have had in Berkeley and the guacamole was yummy too. I had a fish taco and the ensalada verde, both were terrific... the food was so tasty, I told my family I want to go back tomorrow night. Other folks at our table had the chicken flautas (beautiful presentation!) and the steak tacos, it was all good food. The restaurant itself has a beautiful airy and spacious layout. $12.00 for guacamole and chips! Please! The fish in the fish taco had a very strong fishy taste. I left it on my plate I'm not used to paying a lot for chips, but it was expensive on the take-out menu. I'm used to chips being put on the table in a basket. In their favor: the chips are homemade and the best I've ever had. For me, this restaurant is arrogant, thinking its so special it can charge whatever it wants. My favorite Mexican restaurants have a spirit of generosity towards their customers. I'm thinking most of La Penca Azul in Alameda. read more

We were seated quickly, the servers were very friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. It all tasted very fresh, the chips, salsa and guacamole was so good!! Drinks were also good. I could see how it could get loud if it was super busy but it wasn't when we were there so it's super comfortable. We really enjoyed our meal here. read more

Never again! 3 tries for this place, each visit went further downhill... from the tacos containing nothing but a small portion of gristle (twice!!) to extremely slow service, to the manager moving our food with his bare hands, putting his hands IN our chips so he could grab a menu from us, to the bartender NEVER CHANGING GLOVES, which is likely why I got VERY sick Saturday morning after eating there Friday. Had lunch here today. Food was excellent, service excellent and cocktails great! But more importantly, my child forgot his retainer. I sent him back and he asked about it. Actually terrible. Expensive food and garbage service. My party ordered bottomless mimosas and we only got 4 rounds and had to wait 20 minutes between each round. Please do not come to this "restaurant." You'll spend over $25 for trash service and mid food. read more
