Well a little hungry an walking on College Avenue so I stopped in here. I had their house margarita no beer here. It was delicious not like any previous margaritas hmm. I also ordered a fish and a shrimp taco with chipotle sauce. Very nice just enough heat and the servers both were on top of their job running the whole area. Quick service cause I had to run an took a few to go . An Octopus my favorite a carne for a friend. They packed them both up in separate boxes that didn't leak which right there is 1000 points . When I come back to Bezerkly I will definitely check out the rest of the menu.

I love, love, love this place. Five Tacos and Beer has quickly become one of my favorite casual spots in Berkeley. The whole vibe is super laid-back and welcoming. One of the best parts is the outdoor patio, which is perfect when the weather is nice--and it's dog-friendly, so you can bring your pup along. When it's really nice out, they open up the big bar windows, which makes the whole place feel open and lively. As the name suggests, they also have an amazing beer menu. If you like having a lot of good options to choose from, you'll be happy here. Something I think is really cool is that you can order tacos for the table--like 5 tacos, 10 tacos, etc. I haven't tried that option yet, but it seems like a great idea if you're coming with a group and want to try a bunch of different things. We sat at the bar. I ordered a carne asada taco and a carnitas taco, while my wife got the chicken flautas (which are made with corn tortillas). We also shared an order of chips, salsa, and guacamole. The guac tasted super fresh and had just the right amount of spice. My tacos came with tortillas that were obviously house-made, which makes such a difference. Both were delicious and packed with flavor. The chicken flautas were also a big hit--crispy, flavorful, and really satisfying. If you're looking for a casual place with great drinks and really good Mexican food, this is definitely a spot to check out. We'll absolutely be back.

Street parking, toke me a while, walked 2 blocks Simple and beautiful decorations to show the culture and spacious enough for family to sit and enjoy a meal Looks more bar and hangout spot though Service was great no compliant Tried their cocktail and then it got super busy so got the food Togo, toke a while and end up ordering more drinks, but delicious though Food was still good even cold, Asada all the way

Very high quality food. The camaron ceviche was very refreshing (just wasn't expecting the pieces to be so chunky/large and not cut up), but it was very citrusy and the sauce they used was amazing. The al pastor taco and camaron taco were pretty good, but wow wow wow the carne asasa taco!! It was such high quality steak they used which is not typical for a taco at all, so it was very unique and I would definitely have it again. The staff were also friendly and the food came out very quickly. The space is also large so we didn't have to wait to be seated which was nice.

We absolutely loved the vibe at 5 Tacos and Beer in Berkeley! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed with the atmosphere and the wide variety of menu options--so much to choose from. We ordered the chilaquiles, chips with guac and salsa, and four tacos--two chicken and two carne asada. Every bite was packed with flavor! The chilaquiles were next level, and the beans on the side were so yummy--creamy and comforting. The homemade tortillas really made a difference, and the salsas were hitting the spot with just the right amount of kick. To drink, we had a Paloma and a Chismosa cocktail--both were fresh, tasty, and perfectly balanced. The chips had that perfect crunch we all love, and honestly, we were just in awe of the whole experience. So happy we found this place online--it was open later than 2:00 pm, unlike a lot of other spots we looked at. That alone makes it a gem, but the food sealed the deal. We'll definitely be back!

Extremely overhyped and very disappointed with the service. Tab came out well over $100 for just a few items that really weren't even that great considering the price point ($7/taco). Food was also severely under seasoned. How are the frijoles tasteless and bland..? Our server also never checked up on us unless it was to ask if we were ready to order or if we were ready for the check. Never even offered water refills. We waited a while for him to even approach us and ask if we wanted dessert even when we had empty plates and drinks on the table. The dessert wasn't even that good either. Ordered the churros and they were burnt and very hard. The only good thing I enjoyed was their cocktail. Mind you, it was a pretty slow Friday and the workers just kind of seemed to give more attention to each other rather than to their tables. I understand taking advantage of downtime but at least make sure all your tables are well taken care of. The previous reviews about the service do not lie. Ultimately, the food ended up giving me an upset stomach by the end of the night. Maybe it was just a bad day, but I am willing to give this place another try.. probably at the WC location.

    Chips & Guac

We came here on a Monday evening and the restaraunt was relatively empty. It is a cozy, dimly lit space, good for a romantic yet casual dinner. We started off with the chips & guac, and although the guac was fresh and the chips were warm and crunchy, it definitely was not worth a whole $13. The entire menu is pretty overpriced. Others at my table got tacos, I got the ceviche, which did not impress me- the shrimp were on the mushier side, and overall the dish was average at best. Food is average, prices are high. You're probably better off picking somewhere else to eat.

Vegan grilled vegetable birria taco with vegan cheese

Tried the vegan birria tacos and vegan enchiladas at 5 Tacos and Beers and both were really good. The birria tacos were flavorful with perfectly crispy tortillas, and the enchiladas were comforting and satisfying. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned, and the presentation was nice too. The only downside was the service, which felt a little lackluster at times, but the food definitely made up for it. Still a solid spot I'd come back to for the vegan options alone.

Pozole (pork with red sauce) $18. I wanted to love this but broth lacked flavor and wished it wasn't so oily.

Pozole (pork with red sauce) $18. I wanted to love this but broth lacked flavor and wished it wasn't so oily. Also pro tip: Don't come here if you want to have a conversation with the ppl you're dining with. The acoustics is so bad (or non existent) that you're literally YELLING at each other (and everyone else in the entire restaurant).

Love the fresh homemade tortillas!! I have been to another 5 tacos location and love trying the different types of tacos! Service here is great and have variety of items to try!

The food was great! I really recommend the quesabirria tacos, which had a chicken option too! I haven't seen a chicken option near this area yet. Waiters were kind and checked in to make sure we were okay throughout the night. Coming back!

Some of the tacos we had were great. Others were ok. 6 dollar tacos that are three bites are pretty expensive.

The food totally lives up to the hype. Some of the best flavor combinations I have ever had here in Berkeley (Very high praise). The dos Mole dish is a must, both mole are rich and flavorful with one chocolatey and one savory. The tacos are also to die for, you really cannot go wrong with any of them but I recommend trying the fish tacos or mole tacos if you need to choose. I have had a beer and marg here and both were great, no complaints what so ever! They are pretty fast and always sure to check in on how you are enjoying your meal. There is also quite a bit of seating so reservations aren't particularly needed on regular weekdays!

We are in search of a Baja fish taco that is satisfying since both of the places we loved either closed or stopped serving the baja style. We went to Mersea earlier for the views and to check out TI and it was uninspiring so we rambled back to the east bay and decided to try Mercado. Reviews looked good (thanks y'all, I appreciate you) and despite a few misses on the baja taco (according to some reviews) we decided to take a run at it. The man was feeling jaded after the am stop and wasn't going for the fish, I stayed neutral...no one wants their little taco loving heart broken twice in one day...ultimately, he decided to try the fish taco plate with 1 baja and one grilled. I had the poblano mole tacos w/chicken. We shared the guacamole with chips. I had cafe de olla (it is called something else here) and he had the mocktail with the ginger beer. The ordering at the counter wasn't my favorite but the spot was pretty quiet for a Friday midday and the service was still exceptional. They were attentive and responsive. I would definitely go back at the same time cuz I don't like crowds. On to the food. Dayum! Everything was good. Well seasoned, beautifully plated, and sufficient serving size. I pigged out. For real...I waddled out of that joint. Brought every drop of the leftovers home so I could have the chocolate custard (DAYUM) for dessert with the remnants of my coffee. Him: he preferred the baja style to the grilled fish. As some others have said, it can fall apart (really stuffed with goodness) but he didn't want his fixins on the side. VERDICT: he'll be back for that taco. Me: I enjoyed the mole but the chicken in chunks didn't work for me. I would have preferred it shredded. I'll try something else next time and there will be a next time. Oh, and the black beans and green rice were flavorful as well. Standing order: guacamole and chips Cafe Chocolate custard... What? No pics? Come on now. I wasn't thinking 'bout y'all when my food came. Go take your own pics.

My party ordered the verde enchiladas, vegetarian burrito, platanos, and flan. Enchiladas - filled with chicken and the sauce was spicy. However, it wasn't very flavorful, just hot. The rice and beans were very disappointing. Bland and the cheese on the beans was cold, stiff, and clumped. Vegetarian burrito - Delicious! No complaints. Platanos - Served over refried beans with a super unappetizing sauce splashed on top. The taste was just okay but I've had better. Flan - definitely a different texture than the average flan. Overall, it wasn't something to drive home about but it was cool. Overall, the lunch wasn't bad but it wasn't great nor was ti worth almost $80. I may come back to try the tacos, which seem to be a top seller, but I'll hold off on anything else.
