I'm very disappointed with this place. It used to be one of my favorites, but the quality keeps getting worse, and this last visit was the final straw. I ordered the enfrijoladas, and to start with, the presentation was terrible, not appetizing at all. It literally looked like tortillas with a few spoonfuls of beans thrown on top. And as a Mexican, I can absolutely tell when refried beans come from a can... the flavor tasted artificial and completely lacked seasoning. On top of that, the dish was supposed to come with avocado, and it didn't even have that. My husband ordered a burrito, and it was also extremely bland, flavorless, and the portions were surprisingly small for the price. It's honestly sad to see a place that used to be worth visiting now serving food with so little care, flavor, or effort in presentation and quality. Even the traditional panderia inside the restaurant had me drooling when I ordered my Nopalitos tacos, some of the best I've ever had too and they ain't skimping and you're getting legit Oaxaca cheese! When taking a look at the menu they have some of the best traditional offerings and a very Popular Mole too! lots of yummy choices to choose from. The Ambience consists of a home feel with traditional and cozy accents that are well represented. Service was delightful from one of the main gals - they give you a number and bring your food to the table. This was my second visit and enjoyed it as well. We've visited a few times and enjoyed our meals. My favorite is the chicken enchiladas with their green sauce. It is SO flavorful. Their crema is also very good. We've tried a few pastries and they were good as well. Definitely something to have with coffee. We went for taco Tuesday and their taco selection was limited for the special. I had a sweet tooth and wanted some pastries, so we pulled over at this CUTE lil spot, when I walked in I felt the warmness of this place, the lady behind the counter was the sweetest! I grabbed a couple of pastries and 2 Hot Chocolate because it was cold outside. Can I just say; EVERYTHING I placed on the platter and she packed into the bag was DELICIOUS!! Mexican food is my top 3 favorite food. It's all about the meat and how savory the meat tastes AND the salsa/sauces. So..... The carne asada and barbacoa.... From what I understand, my girlfriend mentioned to me Casa Latina may have gone through a management change because when she had it a few years back, the food wasn't remotely as good as it was now. When we returned over the weekend, she said the food was soulful, thought out, and delicious. And I echo those sentiments. For those who are lactose intolerant, we ordered a carne asada burrito with no cheese and light sour cream. The burrito was probably one of the best we had here in the east bay. The carne asada was so moist and seasoned perfectly. While the rest was filled with a beautifully seasoned guac. You're truly not missing out at all without the dairy products and highly recommend Casa Latina for your Mexican food cravings. They also sell baked goods, the Concha's here were perfectly and lightly sweetened. The inside was moist and we can see why they sell out daily. Last but not least don't sleep on the chips and guac. The chips are so fresh and made in house. My only feedback is a little more chips to balance out the guac would be nice but the flavors are spot on. I found out about Casa Latina through a friend and I'm really glad I did. So far I've only tried their desserts, and wow. both the Leche Flan and the Tres Leches cake were incredible. The flan was one of the best I've ever had. It was super silky with a perfect texture and just the right amount of sweetness. The Tres Leches cake was also great--super moist with a nice touch of strawberry flavor and a few real strawberries scattered in. The cinnamon was a little strong for my taste, but it was still really good. They've got a small bakery inside with cookies, cakes, and other classic Mexican treats. I haven't tried their carrot cake yet but it's definitely on my list. The vibe inside is cozy and a little rustic, with a casual charm that makes you want to hang out for a bit. There's also a full menu with espresso drinks, breakfast, tacos, burritos, and Latin American dishes. I haven't tried the food yet but it all looks promising. Parking is street only, but it hasn't been too hard to find a spot since the area isn't super busy. Highly recommend checking this place out, especially for their desserts. Expensive and underwhelming experience. The Platos Grande were not worth the price point unfortunately, many of us left still hungry. The Barbacoa was undersalted, the Carne Asada was chewy, and the Carnitas was a bit tough and oversalted. It was extremely disappointing how the majority of the proteins came out warm, not hot. I've been here several times and have enjoyed it every time. This past weekend, I had the Chipotle Chicken Torta along with some pan dulce--both were excellent! The flavors are always spot on, and everything tastes fresh and thoughtfully prepared. If I had one small suggestion, it would be about the carnitas. Had a nice brunch here today with a friend and our kids. It's a nice casual vibe so easy to bring kids that need to constantly run around a bit. You order at the front when you walk in and then find a table. It was easy to get a table around noon on Sunday. I ordered the breakfast enchiladas with chorizo and they were delicious. Hello all, I ordered 2 al pastor burritos and a set of 2 pupusas, to go. I've visited Casa Latina a few times prior to this and while the prices aren't the best, you get what you pay for and it's usually great and balanced. Service is usually fine and okay, nothing crazy good but decent. However, in my most patronage I received my order with little to no sauce (1 cup for 2 burritos and worst of all, the pupusas brought no salsa or curtido (coleslaw). As a Salvadoran, it's not only wrong but a little insulting to charge 5 dollars per pupusa and on top of that, it seems the toppings come at a price too. It's like salsa to a burrito or cilantro and onion to tacos; it just comes together and paying $12 w tax for 2 pupusas to recurve 0 sauce or coleslaw is just ridiculous. Also the 1 salsa for 2 burritos is another amazing one, I felt scammed and while the flavor of the food was fine, it's just missing something when the sides aren't included yet you're $40 down. It's a good place but the stinginess that i experienced my latest time has made me reconsider coming here again, recommending it, and prompted me to make this review. The food is usually great. The mole is awesome--it's super flavorful and has a sweet richness. The flautas are super crispy without being too oily. I also enjoyed the tartness of the hibiscus agua fresca. The chile verde had tender pork with a nice lime flavor from the sauce. However, it was room temperature when it came to the table. The rice and beans were as well. That wasn't a major issue for me, but I figured it was worth mentioning. Overall, it was a pretty solid meal. As far as ambiance goes, it's a small space with concrete walls, so voices echo a lot and it can get loud really fast. My boyfriend and I went with his elderly grandmother and she had a hard time hearing us, so keep that in mind if you're dining with a hard of hearing person. We had a a friend and family get together. There was 6 of us ready for lunch. Our daughter selected a place she had tried before. Pleasant entrance, and Freida theme decorations. Casa Latina with its happy but very busy workers, featuring Mexican food and bakery. Entering I noticed orders were taken at the counter (no table waiter, but some orders are delivered). High ceiling and hard floors make it a little noisy but the food makes up for it. Plenty of seating for a sorts of choices to seat. I ordered the Micheladas to drink. It was made with a dark beer this time. Fun changing it up. We ordered to share and a lot of food stated arriving at the table. Plenty of red and or green salsa for the asking. We got guacamole with chips (the guac was awesome). Also Empanadas, Platanos, tacos and a burrito, Mole Poblano, and more. It was a feast. I happily noticed the portions are huge and delish. The workers are all courteous and ordering is done at the front with limited interactions. There's a lot to take in in terms of the food. Traditional and nontraditional Mexican and Latin American foods, plus a bakery! I've had their pastries before but not their tacos in a while. I got the Carnitas Taco and my companion had the Al Pastor Taco; both were discounted for taco Tuesday. The carnitas taco was the juiciest taco I've ever had--literally, juice wouldn't stop spilling it. The carnitas was good but could've had more flavor while my companion's Al pastor was dry. Both tacos had some heat due to the salsa, I'd opt for it on the side next time. Berkeley has a variety of options for Mexican food. There were so many options to choose from and looking around at other tables, the food looked amazing. I ordered a Jamaica and some tamales with mole on top. I also got a side of rice and beans. Everything was amazing and my boyfriend got mole enchiladas. The server/cashier was great he helped us pick what to order. This place is really top notch. It's both cozy, vibrant and a hidden gem. The food quality and presentation is 5star. I can vouch for the nachos, 3 tacos plate, the chile relleno and the birria tacos were all extremely tasty. The flavors are in every bite and visually you will be salivating once you see your plate!! I'm not even exaggerating, as the vibrancy of the ingredients used to plate each dish shows. This would appear to be "upscale" because of the prices but honestly it's just what you really should expect when dining out. This isn't my normal go to for quick Mexican style eats. This place is unique and I'd never get it to go or dine out because you'd be missing out on the overall experience. Last but not least I must say that their habanero sauce is actually HOT! This is a cute place, and has been since I first found it five years ago. Back then, I thought it to have the best Mexican food in Berkeley; the pan dulce was a nice bonus. That was nice with café con leche in the morning then. The other day, though, I came by with a friend. We both had burritos: one pork mole, one al pastor. The fillings were fine, as NorCal burritos go; however, the burritos were loose. I understand looseness for the liquid mole, but not for the al pastor. This was an eat-with-fork situation after the first bite. The meat in the mole was also a bit dry. I also mourn the loss of the salsa bar; I used to alternate salsa rojo and verde bites. read more

If you come here do not order the pupusas... given that this isn't their specialty I give them some grace but they only have one flavor available and used black beans for the filling which made the pupusas taste bitter and overall not worth it... Stopped by tonight to grab a burrito for the kids to split. They were starving and we had late practices. Ordered a carne asada burrito. MILD. Got home and the damn thing was so spicy even I had a hard time with it.. and I like spicy. My mouth is still on fire writing this. Which is fine for me. The kids on the other hand refused to eat any of it after the first bite so I had to go back out and get another burrito from a different place for them. Pretty infuriating. I'm sitting in a different restaurant now writing this. Probably not the biggest deal in the world but look guys...when someone orders a mild burrito it's probably for kids.
