(No spoilers on rooms) I was given a gift card to 5 Wits for Christmas, enough to make a reservation online and then do a second one for half off after our first run through. We easily made a second reservation while checking in (they said it was highly recommended since they get busy). We started with Deep Space which was pretty neat. We went through three different rooms doing each task. The buttons in the third room didn't really work and my husband was getting frustrated. However, we had a high score and got the good ending (passed). I definitely got Portal feels out of this room and thought it was pretty cool hearing a sound alike to GLaDOS. There was also a Space Odyssey reference, too. For fellow nerds, this was probably the highlight to the room. Whether done on purpose or not with the Portal feel. After, we did Tomb. Based on reviews, we assumed this was the best room in the building. My husband and I agreed that Deep Space was the best. However, Tomb was cool and felt like The Mummy ride at Universal Studios. We had an issue with the last task but for some reason, passed. Made no sense, we couldn't get it to work, so I think the staff pushed us along. We didn't get a good score on that room but still passed and it was fun. Note that this is NOT an escape room. You have about 35 minutes or less to go through three rooms. They're very simple and more like a walk through ride. The quality of the rooms are pretty good, theatrically. Unfortunately, with some buttons not working, I had to knock it down a star. Also, be prepared for fire alarms to sound off. We were about to go in our first room and the alarms went off and managed to continue for over 30 minutes. Thankfully the staff were still accommodating and didn't rush us through the rooms to get the next people on. Overall, this is something fun to do but I honestly don't believe it's worth almost $100 to do two rooms (with the second being half off). I'm thankful we got a gift card because I would have buyers remorse if I spent that much). Most impressive place. Like Disney Level theming. Worth the money. Great for kids

I've been here twice. First time about 6 years ago was a great experience! Like an escape room, but better. Decorations and interactiveness were amazing. However I just tried again tonight and had a horrible experience. 1. The rooms are the exact same. Meaning you can never come back because you will know all the answers 2. Deep Space room had a lot of technical problems. We solved the clue in seconds and it acted like it was wrong. We didn't change a thing and 5 minutes later it told us we were correct. Then the final room (light box) had a wall of lights out so we were unable to participate and do anything 3. Dragon room had timing problems. We solved our riddle and it wouldn't let us into the next room because the group ahead of us was still working on their puzzle so we literally sat there and waited. Then when the door did open finally, the group ahead of us was still in there and we saw them and saw them solve the puzzle and open a secret passage door (which then didn't close until maybe 2-3 minutes later) Staff were nice and offered free tickets to come back and were very apologetic. However, you can't do these rooms twice in my opinion so it's a little pointless. Unless they change the rooms up, update the rooms to fix broken items and maybe spread groups out a bit more time wise, I won't be coming back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. read more

We have visited 5Wits twice now and have done all of their rooms. The tomb and castle rooms were our favorites. The space room was a little challenging and we thought that some of the things we had to maneuver took more effort than the other rooms. Pricing is a lot for one room. If you are going to do more, I suggest getting the triple package (equates to a buy two get one free) or take advantage of booking the second room when you arrive for half off. All of the staff are very friendly. Bonus: the bathrooms are some of the cleanest public bathrooms I have ever been in. read more

ESCAPETHEROOMers visited this location in July 2018. This is location is upstairs of the Palisades Center Mall. We had a group of six and got to the place right when it opened. The game masters were very accommodating and started us right away and there was no wait in between each rooms. The lobby is an open area with just the entrance to the three rooms. You enter into the same hallways but get debriefed at a different door each time depending on the game you are playing. It's definitely a more fun experience if you attend with people that you know share the same momentum and goal. Purchasing all 3 games is the most worth it, but when it gets busy you may have to share the room w/ random people or have to wait in between rooms. We're glad that we decided to try all 3 and receive the full experience. As for the rooms, if you like Disney rides, you are going to love these! The high tech quality of the props, storyline, and surround sound system implemented were all state-of-the-art. One minute, you'll feel like you're in an Egyptian tomb, the next in a futuristic spaceship, and then entering a hundred year old castle. The puzzles were not hard, some were actually pretty much geared towards kids. This is not your typical puzzle-heavy escape room. You are really here to experience a movie set and immerse yourself into it like an actor on set. We enjoyed all 3 rooms, but if we had to pick a favorite, I would say the "Tomb" is up there. They will give you a score at the end, pending on the time you spend in there, how many errors you've made, and if you used any of the clues or not (the clues are "voluntarily" given pending on the time you spend at a specific location because remember these are 30 minute rooms so the game will push you along and will not let you be stuck at a place for too long). I went to 5 Wits for a friend's surprise birthday party. The staff was very accommodating in helping set up the surprise which was good. They're also very enthusiastic which adds to the story telling of the escape room experience. Unlike the other escape rooms I've done, 5 Wits seems to be a high volume, commercialized experience. You do not need an appointment, and the puzzles seem pretty straightforward. I did Drago's Castle as well as Deep Space. Neither room was particularly difficult, and my group finished both with the top scores for the day. The production value is much higher than the less commercial escape rooms I've done, with animatronics and full motion platforms. The puzzles aren't something you can memorize, so each course can be done more than once, but since it's meant to be solvable by children, I found it too easy, since each course was solved within 30 minutes. But you can do all 3 courses for $35, which is a good and cheap way to kill about 2 hours. read more

I went to 5 wits on two different occasions. The first time I went was with family (my sisters and cousins all over the age of 22+) We were looking for an escape room but found wits instead. The room we chose to do was the Mummy. It was totally a different experience than that of a typical escape room. I felt it was more hands on and interactive. We all enjoyed it which had me invite my friends the next time I came back. The second time, I was with my boyfriend and our friends. We did the two rooms for $25.99 which ended up being like $65 per couple with tax. It's totally worth doing two rooms because for a few extra bucks you get more. We decided to do the castle and the space since I hadn't done either of those. The first room we entered was the castle, in which we really enjoyed and loved! We decided to do the space one last because employees insisted to do the easier one first and the space one which was harder later. To be completely honest the space room was my least favorite of all three. Yes it was more difficult but it was more video game interactive games rather than actual critical thinking. Overall, good experience. Definitely a try once, especially for those with preteens and younger. If you're out with a group of friends this would also be a good idea. read more

5 Wits, where 1 wit or less is required. I know it doesn't make sense, but neither does this "escape room". I like the concept of this store, and I understand it from a business POV, but what was sold as a room escape was in actuality, more of an expensive 30 minute daycare. The prices seemed reasonable ($23 for one game), compared to other (edit: legitimate) room escapes, and they even had a nice package of all 3 games for $30 (sorry I mean $29.99). Well, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. In this case, less. Without delving too much into spoilers, as if you were going to go, the puzzles were barely a challenge, many of the devices were malfunctioning, and the experience was unmemorable at best. The staff were not much better, putting in what I can only assume to be their understanding of "enthusiasm". While in the middle of one of our games, where we clearly properly solved one of the puzzles, the automated system did not recognize it, and we were completely stuck in the linear progression. I left the room to find a support staff, as our pleas to the cameras went unnoticed. Little did I know there wasn't even someone at the security cameras (located in plain view in the hallways leading to the rooms). There was a staff member enjoying a sandwich. Rather than leaving feeling challenged, entertained, or anywhere close to satisfied, my feelings were those of annoyance, feeling cheated, and physically and mentally pained (those flashing lights and excruciatingly loud sounds will likely bother most, barring only the deafest and blindest, no offense). TL;DR if you are looking to throw away money, wasting your time, and accelerating your need for hearing aids, this is your place... on second thought, you might enjoy sitting next to an angry yelling homeless person and donating the money to him more than this place. read more

This place is great! A speedy escape room at the Palisades Park Mall and it's great. Such a great set up! So they're located at the top level of the mall, next to Target. They have the option of three separate rooms which is pretty cool. So it costs $36 and some change in tax for all three rooms, but this means you can come back and try out the others on separate days. The people who work there are super friendly and make it really easy to enjoy! They're pretty dramatic which is pretty fun so they make it enjoyable. So each room takes about 30 minutes to finish so it's something cool to do before dinner or after a couple of margaritas. I would definitely recommend it and think it's worth it for anyone to do! Had a really great time here. Staffs were friendly and made the experience fun. I like their enthusiasm and how they introduce each adventure before you begin. The production value of each adventure was great. You can tell that they put in a lot of effort on the story. They told us each room fits up to 12 people and if they are busy they will only group you with people around your age group. (If you're all adults they will not group you with a family that has kids). Each ticket is for 1 adventure and for 1 use. Each adventure is about 30 - 40 minutes. We did the deep space and dragos castle. I had a group of 7 and we completed each adventure in about half an hour. I would say the best experience is the first. Once you solve the adventure you can't really do it again. But they do have an alternative ending and "secret" in each adventure if you didn't get it the first time and want to try it again. You also get a score after each adventure. You can also try again and shoot for 100. I would like it if the rooms had more puzzles and things to do. The puzzles were simple for us. It is more interactive and kids would definitely enjoy it. But overall it was a great experience. PS - locker rental is 25 cent per locker. It is pretty sizable and can fit about 3 jackets and 3 purses read more

My DH, our mutual best friend and I went to 5 Wits on a whim while at the palisades after a birthday dinner. So these are 3 different puzzle/escape rooms with 3 themes: The Tomb, Dragos Castle and Deep Space. You can choose to only do one, but it's more cost efficient to do all 3. The attendant told us that if we decided to not do them all at this time we could come back any time to use your token for that room. Since we had the time we decided to do all 3. I don't want to give to much away as it would take away from the experience, but it was very cool! Interactive, thought provoking and definitely cooperative strategy needed. After each room you head back to the entrance area and you can see your "score" that your group got on a TV monitor above that rooms entrance. It tells how long it took to solve the room and your score as well as the 3 previous groups. Which is fun too if your super competitive like me! Each room took about 28-35 minutes on average...so we were there close to 2 hours and I would say worth the price about $35 per person..I think that's a fair price for the quality of the experience. There is a restroom and drinks and snacks available for purchase as well as function rooms for groups. They suggest this would be for birthday parties and also as team building. My only problem with this is that now that I've done all 3 I can't go back as I've already solved. July 8, so we did the Headless Horseman Escape rooms in Ulster Park and 5 wits didn't hold a candle to it..but I think it's a great place to start and get some confidence read more

This was really different from any escape the room I've ever done, but still fun! Our group of 6 did all 3 rooms and the puzzles weren't necessarily hard, but they were a lot more interactive than your typical escape room. I probably wouldnt do it again unless they changed the themes since the puzzles didn't involve that much detective work- but I would recommend to people to try it out at least once! read more

Awesome and a great value! We played all three games in the same day, it took us in all about one hour and a half. We did the Tomb, Deep Space and Drago's CASTLE (in that order) . Top 3 comments from all us that played: 1. Amazing production value, the sets and operations were world class. That being said it is a high volume game meaning many people are pumped through quickly which is different than the boutique escape experience for those expecting the typical escape game. (Each games takes about 30 mins) 2. Fantastic for family and kids but still really fun for adults. 3. Great story integration, theaterics and experience from start to finish. Favorites in rank order are Drago's Castle, Tomb then Deep Space. Recommend all but if you had to pick two play the tomb first then Drago's Castle. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Very different sort of "escape" experience... if you're a seasoned escapee, you may find these rooms lacking a fundamental part of the experience... As another reviewer as said, it seems like a very "Universal Studios" setup. Lots of bells & whistles, but the puzzles themselves aren't very difficult. The rooms basically run on a timed soundtrack/system. If you don't get past a certain point within x-number of minutes, the timed system unlocks things and moves you forward. Example: we were in the middle of solving the very first puzzle in the Dragon game, and since we took longer than the allotted time, the thing unlocked itself. You could feasibly just stand there and do nothing, and still manage to "escape" by letting the game play itself through. I feel like this takes away the sense of accomplishment, and if there was a gamemaster there (as there is in most other games) they would be able to see the difference between someone completely stuck on a puzzle, and someone in the middle of working through it. Another major flaw I found is that some of the puzzles require reaching well over 6' up a wall or column, or climbing on barrels. If I didn't happen to have a tall friend with me, or if there were a group of kids doing the room, there is no possible way they'd be able to get through these areas without waiting for the game to just play itself. I could see this being fine for a kids' party, or for people who are new to the escape game genre. If you enjoy the challenge and sense of accomplishment that comes with doing escape rooms, 5Wits is probably not the best choice. THAT SAID, you can check out all 3 rooms for $30, which isn't a terrible way to kill 2 hours with a few friends. read more

My wife and I (ages 48 and 54) took our nephew and niece (ages 12 and 14) to 5 Wits and did the "Tomb' adventure. We all enjoyed it and found it challenging. Some of the puzzles were easy and some were actually pretty difficult. Overall we found it fun and exciting to do. Pricey, yes, but if you do more than one it gets cheaper. We just didn't have time to do so on that particular day. Reasons I didn't give it 5 stars: The overall theming of the experience is incomplete. You wait outside the dramatic "tomb" doors to get in, then when the doors finally open you walk into a regular sheetrocked hallway, (Past the backs of the doors for the other adventures which also lead to the same hallway.). I guess I expected Disney-type theming which is complete from beginning to end. The wait was really long to get in, about 40 minutes on this Saturday morning. Lastly, the adventure we went there to do was closed because of a flood from the sprinkler system. In spite of these small disappointments, we had a blast and look forward to going back to do the other adventures. read more

If I can give zero stars I would! Most unprofessional staff I've ever seen a business ever run. We were a party of seven and the manager promised us a private game for the next game as there were no other parties waiting. The manager allowed 2 parties ahead of us and after an hour we still haven't entered the room. Manager and the rest of the staff was very unprofessional. Wasted our whole parties Saturday night.
