Food is always great. Only one server today who was busy. That's not normal but made for a little longer time spent here than planned.

Our waitress, August, has a bright smile and outgoing personality. She is a genuinely nice person. A perfect contrast to our my family's day, which has been filled with miserable deep cleaning for spring. She commiserates with our care worn state and later on with desert leaves us a sweet message of encouragement. Our waitress suggests we try an Ultra drink... and my wife does, finding it refreshing. I mention I'm a heavy drinker... of water and she comes back with a second glass so I won't be waiting on her with the busy atmosphere. We never feel neglected despite her having a big table with more than ten people. The Ribeye steaks we order are cooked to perfection and have a good peppery flavor, and the sides are a great compliment. The corn reminds us of Mexican street corn. The atmosphere is perfect for conversation as it never gets too loud for us, especially if you get one of their booths. Yes... I would recommend you eat at this Long Horn.

Great salsa bar, and typical mexican things. It has a drive thru which is crazy because I think every-time I visit I would choose to go inside. The service is great and straight to the point. Now for the reason you go.. the food. Fantastic. Every time I've gone I've enjoyed my meal. This is one of those places where you're like.. well fuck. looks like I gotta try everything on this menu. And I don't know if I would dislike anything. The food is fresh and better than other a lot of other Mexican spots in KC. Overall I'm definitely gunna be visiting again in the future and years to come. Great vibe, great food, and a great time.

The service was okay! Nothing super special but they answered questions and were helpful at the counter. This was our first time here so we ordered a few things to sample and share amongst ourselves. The first thing we had was the chips and queso, which I thought was a bit expensive at $7.99 but not too bad. The queso was fairly spicy but otherwise nothing special. I usually love queso so it surprised me how neutral I felt toward it! The chips were good, thin and light with a crispy bite to them. We unfortunately didn't get to try the salsa, noticing only at the end of our meal that there was a sauce bar near the counter! The birria tacos were also...okay. They were very juicy but not very uniquely flavored compared to everything else we tried. The meat was tender and I loved the texture of the tortilla, but didn't care for the massive handful of cilantro dropped on top of everything on the plate. The dipping liquid (birria sauce?) was alright! It was the same flavor as the tacos themselves so it didn't add much, but it definitely wasn't bad. The "main course" of what we ordered was a combo of soft chicken tacos, rice, and beans. The chicken tacos were unfortunately very cold by the time we got them which was a bit strange, as almost everything else was hot! They tasted good but I'm really not a fan of eating cold chicken, so I passed them off to my friends. The beans were just okay. There's really not much to say about them. The rice also left me disappointed! I typically devour Spanish rice. Not only was it cold, there were also odd, hard grains of rice mixed in. Not enough to get one every bite but enough that the experience of eating it was off-putting. It was also quite bland. Another note: While we were eating, there was this constant loud droning coming from the air conditioner. I'm a MASSIVE fan of air conditioning so I'm grateful it was on in the first place, but that is something they really need to get fixed. Two women seated near us actually got up and walked outside after commenting multiple times about how disturbing the noise was. My experience here was definitely a mixed bag but it leaned toward the positive, so we'll likely try them again! They had several other menu items I'd like to try, including some American fare that I found intriguing.

It's been family‑owned since 1938, and you can see that history on the walls: portraits of the family through the years, plaques recognizing dedicated patrons. I threw in an order for a KC Strip, plus cottage fries and mushrooms. When in Kansas City, you go KC. It took about 45 minutes for my plate to hit the table, which, as a solo diner, gave me plenty of time to catch up on emails. It was a busy night and a full dining room was understandable, but worth noting. Steak: I made sure to ask for the house seasoning; I learned ahead of time they don't season their cuts, so you have to ask up front when ordering. My medium‑rare landed closer to medium, and the presentation: a sizzling plate, no grill marks suggested a broiler or oven cook. The flavor was fine, but it still needed salt. Good, not great. Mushrooms: Whole, uncut, and a solid complement to the steak. Straightforward and satisfying. Cottage Fries: More like thick chips, served unsalted. Jess & Jim's has local charm and a real townie vibe. Families gathering, people catching up, that old‑school KC energy you don't get from a chain. The food itself is just okay not bad, but not a standout. The place's character is what makes it worth choosing over a corporate steakhouse. You come here for the history and the atmosphere more than the plate.
