Rey de Oros is a gorgeously-decorated little spot with lots of menu options. When we arrived, we were very impressed by the look of the place. Everything was clean and orderly. The service was okay! Nothing super special but they answered questions and were helpful at the counter. This was our first time here so we ordered a few things to sample and share amongst ourselves. The first thing we had was the chips and queso, which I thought was a bit expensive at $7.99 but not too bad. The queso was fairly spicy but otherwise nothing special. I usually love queso so it surprised me how neutral I felt toward it! The chips were good, thin and light with a crispy bite to them. We unfortunately didn't get to try the salsa, noticing only at the end of our meal that there was a sauce bar near the counter! The birria tacos were also...okay. They were very juicy but not very uniquely flavored compared to everything else we tried. The meat was tender and I loved the texture of the tortilla, but didn't care for the massive handful of cilantro dropped on top of everything on the plate. The dipping liquid (birria sauce?) was alright! It was the same flavor as the tacos themselves so it didn't add much, but it definitely wasn't bad. The "main course" of what we ordered was a combo of soft chicken tacos, rice, and beans. The chicken tacos were unfortunately very cold by the time we got them which was a bit strange, as almost everything else was hot! They tasted good but I'm really not a fan of eating cold chicken, so I passed them off to my friends. The beans were just okay. There's really not much to say about them. The rice also left me disappointed! I typically devour Spanish rice. Not only was it cold, there were also odd, hard grains of rice mixed in. Not enough to get one every bite but enough that the experience of eating it was off-putting. It was also quite bland. Another note: While we were eating, there was this constant loud droning coming from the air conditioner. I'm a MASSIVE fan of air conditioning so I'm grateful it was on in the first place, but that is something they really need to get fixed. Two women seated near us actually got up and walked outside after commenting multiple times about how disturbing the noise was. My experience here was definitely a mixed bag but it leaned toward the positive, so we'll likely try them again! They had several other menu items I'd like to try, including some American fare that I found intriguing. read more

As soon as you walk in everyone was very welcoming! Our waitress was kind and efficient. I had a frozen strawberry margarita and it was delicious! I really like their taco salad. I got the chicken taco salad and it had a lot of flavor. My friend had a Torta. She said it was very good as well. I have also had the 3 chicken enchiladas here before and those were very tasty as well! Their cheese dip was alright. It wasn't my favorite but it was still good. But I am a strickler when it comes to my cheese dip. I like the vibe there! All of the workers were very kind and helpful. The place was clean and the music was good! Giving this place 2 stars solely based on the fact the desserts look decent and the restaurant has a clean interior. Came here with high hopes because the reviews seemed pretty good, wasn't the case. Starting off got super cold vibes from the staff at the counter. Ordered their taco tuesday special which is their crispy tacos special. Expected deep fried tacos, what we got was premade hard taco shells that you can get from Walmart. You are better off just going to taco bell, same ingredients, same taste. Also order two margaritas one was frozen the other was on the rocks. Both tasted like the tequila was from the dollar store, absolutely disgusting. Expected way more considering each margarita was ten dollars. The tacos and the margaritas were made cheaply. In all the experience was terrible, the service and staff at the front being super rude and condescending when asking for a refund or replacement for the dreadful frozen marg. As well as the shameful crispy tacos, won't be coming back and do not recommend anyone to come here that's wants food that's better than it just being edible. read more

Maybe the best street tacos in the southern KC area. Happy to have Rey bring me a good option to satisfy an authentic taco craving. Definitely not 5 star worthy. Lacked a good sear, not fully seasoned, salsa was average. Way too much onion and cilantro, but that could have been situational and easy to remedy. The asada had the best sear, but a little dry, a and lacked good seasoning to be great. Pastor lacked sear but wasn't dry. So tough to strike that right balance. Carnitas were little too moist for my liking, like they were in a crock pot, least favorite. read more

Delicious! We have ordered to go and now eaten inside, and both experiences were easy & delicious. All of the food is fresh and tasty. The restaurant itself is newer, clean, and even has a drive thru. The staff was friendly and welcoming. When you arrive you order at the counter. The counter is next to the ice cream display so you get to see all of the yummy options. They also have cake, like tres leches, and tiramisu. Their menu is clear and reasonably priced. I love their soft tacos which is street tacos on corn tortillas, served with cilantro & onions. They have a little sauce bar where you can get pico, mild, avocado sauce, papusa sauce and so much more. We will definitely be back! read more

Street tacos only dreams are made of. I don't know why it has taken me so long to try them at their new location when I loved them so much at the old one, but I'm glad I finally did. The new location is so much bigger than before with plenty of room to sit and enjoy your food. The drive-thru is an awesome option as well. I ordered an Asada, Chorizo and Pastor to go. One of my favorite taquerias (Dos de Oros Taqueria) has a new name and a new location with a drive thru. My opening week dine-in lunch experience was excellent, with great service, an extensive menu, delicious tacos, many toppings options and a nice dining area. My grilled chicken street tacos ($3.19 each) were served with a smile just four minutes after I ordered at the counter. They had generous amounts of my choice of protein, onions and cilantro on tasty, warm, double-layer, corn tortillas - among the best tortillas I've ever had. The chicken was perfectly cooked, moist and tasty - nice! I liked the extensive, complimentary, well-labeled toppings bar (which included mild salsa, salsa verde, avocado salsa, hot salsa, chili oil, papusa sauce, salsa de tomatillo y chile de arbol, curtido salad, hot molcajete, pico de gallo, carrot salad and cebolla morada) and the adjacent warmer with grilled onions and peppers. The two dining areas were clean and freshly remodeled with Mexican background music and plenty of natural light. The menu included breakfast, smashburgers, a variety of Mexican entrées (with a great variety of proteins including 11 meats, three seafoods and cactus) and ice cream (23 flavors). Went for Fathers Day. Order 2 asada tacos and 2 pastor tacos. Tortillas were so hard on the edges, I couldn't eat them. Over 1/2 of each pastor taco was something other than Pastor (onions....which I said no Onions. Bill was almost $85 for 4 people. At $3.29 a Taco......and $7.99 for chips and queso......I won't be back......... Sorry they moved because it use to not be this way...... read more

Great customer service! Prices affordable! Weekly specials! I ordered three tacos (Al Pastor, Steak) with green salsa. The tacos were perfectly filled with flavorful meats, spices, onions, and cilantro. I wish the salsa were spicier, but I will get the red spicy sauce next time! read more

Tried it for the first time Friday night. Very neat place. Sauce bar was great as were the jalapeños and onions in the electric skillet. Ordered 2 house margaritas and an order of GB nachos. This place has been on permanent rotation in my taco lineup for years since they were Dos de Oros Taqueria. The new name and location just made the experience better. There are more parking spaces, drive through and they sell beer now. The tacos are still amazing. Some of my favorites are carnitas, al pastor and carne asada. I like the fun ambience here. The food is good, I enjoyed my pork tamales and ceviche tostada, which was a very generous portion for an appetizer. The service is mediocre, they brought my food outside to me with no utensils or napkins, and they did not come out to check on me. I would come back here to try other dishes and enjoy the margaritas. Love the relocation and expanded menu and venue with the Rey de Oros taqueria! Just like before, the food is delicious and portions are large! The birria taco was so good and we loved the corn mas in the Sope! There were 6 shrimp in the taco!?!?! My friends told me about this new location. Not sure what happened to the coffee shop or if it moved next door, but was rumored that dos de oros taqueria just moved to this building? I'm not sure but either way, I grabbed lunch with my friends and was impressed by the quality, wait time, and cleanliness of the restaurant. Everything was laid out well and the food was delicious. I ordered my favorite al pastor tacos and the meat was well seasoned and tender. The old dos de oros had gone down in quality in my opinion so it was a nice change of pace that has decent parking spaces now. I will say that I wish they didn't limit on the sauces you can have, but it's not a deal breaker for me. Prices have gone up but that's for most restaurants nowadays. Our favorite Mexican restaurant, Dos De Oros Tacqueria has a new name and new digs. Love the new location that you may recall used to be a fun coffee shop. Their crispy tacos with carne asada and the steak milanesa tortas (like Mexican subs with fries steak) are our go-to. Whenever we have visitors try it out, they are always obsessed with the torta! The salsa bar is a must! The spicy avocado is the highlight! The kids have tried the ice cream, and there are some unique flavors worth trying. The answer is yes. You should eat here. The food is quite authentic. Not your typically chain covered in cheese Mexican restaurant. This is fantastic tacos with meat, cilantro, onions, salsa. Everything I had was delicious. All of my friend's food were delicious. Everyone was full and happy. I went back up for some ice cream. It did not taste like a generic run of the mill ice cream. This tasted homemade and was freaking awesome. I highly recommend. This is worth driving to for lunch or dinner. Also, service was great. Staff were super nice. Restaurant clean. I called the restaurant to inform them of the short order and the person answering the phone insistently argued with me that she put my order together and she knew it was correct. Alright ya'll, sit back and buckle up, because Rey de Oros is going to blow your socks off!!! If you read the other reviews, you can see this is Dos de Oros, but moved into a newer, and expanded, location around the corner. In my review for their old location I waxed eloquent about the sublime quality of their chorizo Cali-style breakfast burrito. When I came to the new location, I ordered it again and it was still the same quality and flavor: amazing!! But I was intrigued to try out their street tacos - which the staff generally refer to as soft tacos when taking your order - so I ordered one taco al pastor with the meat extra crispy. It was alright, but I typically order take out and live about 15 minutes away, so it had a drive snugged up in a tiny to-go box and that is not giving it a fair shot. So fast-forward a few weeks and I convince my wife to go eat lunch with me at the restaurant. Mind. Blown. I ordered the four-taco special, which comes with a soda at just about the same price point as ordering four tacos individually. My tacos al pastor, carne extra crispy, layered with onions and cilantro, the double corn tortillas perfectly crisped on the edges, and the papusa sauce and salsa verde combination transported me back to my first time eating street tacos off a taco truck in the Bay Area. The meat was crackling on the edges with a deeply sumptuous umami bomb flavor and just a hint of sweetness from the pineapple. It all melded together in my mouth in an ecstasy of flavor. This place is the real deal. The ladies working here are also wonderful. They are patient, kind, and make sure you are getting what you want. Do yourself a favor and go here. Now. Do not wait or waiver. It is absolutely one of the finest taquerias in the entire greater KC metropolitan area; even better than the majority of the places down in Argentine and downtown KCK. PS - If tacos al pastor is not your thing, my wife's steak (asada) and carnitas tacos were similarly of high quality and flavor. So you cannot go wrong here. I just ordered a menudo. I wanted to try it but wasn't sure how good they cleaned it or how fresh it was. It was a piece of tripe that had hair on it. It was all brown. To say the least, I threw it away. I was upset I spent $14 on it and it went down the drain. I called to see if they would make it right and nope, they said no. read more

Location recently moved to this new spot and that was a great idea. The restaurant is in a good location, easy to get to and parking of plenty. It does get busy though at times. The food is really good. When I want a great taco I come to this location. They also have a salsa bar full of different salsas that is self serve. Also the only spot that I can find that serves an entire platter of 16 tacos, it's our family favorite.
