I found this shop on a random google search as I have been having issues with a 94 Jeep 4.0 motor with a comp cam ever since the builder put it together. It is incredible how terrible a souped up motor runs when the timing is 9 degrees off. I had done so many small mods and checks to try to get it in tune and running right. Zach answered my call and I explained my concern. He took the time to explain to me what parts he had available to correct my issue and that he sells a lot of them due to this same problem. I purchased one of his 9 way adjustable timing sets that he gets out of Australia as apparently they like Jeep motors more than we do... It took a while to get it all dialed in with the motor and radiator still installed and not being able to look at it straight on but this was a god-send. With the precision set rather than stock replacement garbage it was 6 degrees off. I moved the sprocket the 6 degrees and got it to near perfect. .25-.5 degree off on my 3 re-checks. I was able to restore my newly rebuilt engine and old 4x4 back to its former glory for under $200. I have put 5x that into trying to fix it and so many hours trying to figure out why a brand new motor ran poorly. I was scared at first the double roller would not fit under the stock cover but it was impressive that they figured it out dead-nuts to fit in that 1994 cover with a bigger and better timing set. Do not buy anything from this con artist this idiot engine builder lied out of his ass on the forged rotating assembly had 2 pistons on my stroker motor backwards, rings were gapped at 0.18 on three pistons this motor made it a mile before having the ring land explode on the top of the suppose to be forged pistons and they were used!!! had to take it to a proper machine shop that wasn't some backyard hack 8500$ later after spending 8k and waiting for almost 7 months. don't worry instead of fixing it or offering cash he stopped answering do not be fooled by this shop read more

Ok now it's 5 1/2 months. I have been told it's finished and on the shipping doc, now I'm told by Zach its been shipped but can't seem to give me the shipping or tracking number from YRC. Today I called Miranda and she was at lunch and would get me the information when she returned to the office. Well just like Zach no call, no email, no nothing. I don't think it has even been shipped or even built. My final payment was given on 2-10-2023 and cleared the bank on 2-13-2023. I'm so tired of this place I would never recommend them and if I knew anybody that used them I'd quit seeing them too! I have no choice to give 1 star because you can't give zero. This all started on September 6, 2022 and I was told he had one ready and just had to gather items to ship with it. I'm looking into getting my money back! read more

In August 2023, I blew up my 3.8L Jeep engine and started looking at different replacement options. That's when I came across 505 Performance. After researching, I decided to place an order for their 3.8L stroker engine in September 2023. Living in Arizona, I had the opportunity to visit the shop and meet Zach and his family in person multiple times. From the start, it was clear that Zach knows Jeeps inside and out. I received my engine in December, installed it, and put about 300 miles on it before unfortunately destroying a main bearing and crankshaft. At this point, Zach personally took my Jeep to his shop, pulled the engine, and replaced the bearings and crankshaft. Unfortunately, about 75 miles later, the same issue occurred. Without hesitation, Zach took my Jeep back, purchased a brand-new block, and completely rebuilt the stroked engine again. I finally got my Jeep back in July 2024, and since then, I've put about 8,000 miles on the new engine. The time my jeep was without an engine was basically 10 months. Since the rebuild it has been running strong and has noticeably increased my Jeep's power--bringing it back to life. Given that my original engine had around 270,000 miles on it and had already been rebuilt twice before, I don't fault Zach for the initial failures. He stood by his work, covered all the rebuild costs, and only charged me for the original stroker engine. One thing worth mentioning is that Zach and his team are extremely busy. Jeeps are not the only thing that 505 is modifying they work on trucks, boats, UTVs, and classic cars from what I could tell. He has a lot of projects going on at once, and while he does quality work, communication can be a challenge at times. He's knowledgeable and passionate about what he does but expect some delays--things may take longer than the estimated timeframes. My best advice for anyone ordering an engine is to have patience. Overall, I highly recommend 505 Performance. Their engines are well-built, and Zach stands behind his work. 505 is a legit, family-owned business, and Zach and his family are great people. If they could improve their communication and provide more regular updates and be more transparent about things, I think it would go a long way in making the experience even better and people would appreciate that. That said, if you're willing to wait, you'll get a solid engine that delivers real performance. read more

Took 7 weeks to receive my order on in-stock item. I got no response after sending 4 emails. They only shipped my order AFTER I submitted a buyer protection claim through PayPal of item not received. After submitting a claim the seller has a certain amount of time to provide proof of shipping, and I believe that's when they shipped my item, provided the information to PayPal, and won the claim. I still haven't received a single response from this seller. read more

The owner of this company (Zach Steele to our knowledge is who we dealt with) is a FRAUD and a THIEF!! We purchased a Jeep engine from him in April 2024 (over the phone) and still have not received it nor a refund of our $5,800 (as of November 2024). He emailed us about 4 weeks after we paid the initial half deposit and said it was done, he'd be sending us tracking information. That wasn't received so we followed up and he continued to say he would be providing the tracking number. My husband spoke to him over the phone and he sounded to be "nice" and believable; however, we certainly found out, that's not the case. Once we figured out we were being lied to, it was beyond the 60 day period where our credit card company would return the funds. All of our attempts to get him to return our money have failed. Zach has helped me rebuild a failed engine from another shop, over the phone!!!! He has helped me choose stronger parts that fit better and give my engine more reliability and off-idle power. Nobody has put in as much time helping me, a "do-as-much-as-I-can" customer, than Zach at 505. Give them your vehicle use and information relative to what it needs to be...that way, they can get you there! I wish I'd have found them BEFORE my built engine grenaded...a local shop (no longer in biz) ruined my dream build. Zach has patiently helped me recover with minimal suffering. We prevailed with a judgment of $86,201.99 plus $4567.00 in costs plus attorney's fees of $58,504.50. Ended up over $35K in the hole trying to collect this judgment with additional attorney fees and costs and lost our heirloom 1954 Jeep . Buyer beware. read more

It's shocking to me that 505 Performance is still in business! Bought a 4.0 Jeep motor from Zack in 2016. A complete shit show! Zack can't deliver what he says or when he says he can. I could go on in detail about how every step of the way in dealing with 505 Performance, they failed. But I have wasted to much of my time already trying to deal with Zack. I thought the nightmare was over, and had hoped that after the initial round of repairs was done when we received the motor, things would be good. No so lucky... He owes me for a $500 core, a returned supercharger that he sold me that was burnt from a engine fire from previous owner and for a set of roller rockers I bought from him. For a total of $3000. The engine they built recently had issues, had the head removed and it was built with substandand parts, and the work was horrible. Washers were put in to adjust valves nstead of being cut correctly, valve adjustment was way off. I was happy when I found 505 Preformance as they sold complete stroker kits for the Jeep 4.0. Their consumer service and attention to detail however leaves much to be desired. I ordered a stage 2 kit with cast pistons and added an exhaust header, new higher preformance cylender head, roller rockers and a heat treated and nitrided cam. I was told that it would take 2 weeks to that the cam and put the kit together. This was perfectly acceptable and I paid my $3730 for the parts I wanted. Within 4 days I received the tracking number for my parts and I was ecstatic. I was told that that was shipment 1 of 3 and would receive the tracking on the remaining 2 within a couple days. Upon receipt of the first shipment I inventoried the parts with my copy of my order and the copy of my order in the box. I had received my supposedly heat treated cam that was supposed to take a couple weeks to come back from treatment. I also received all of the gaskets and seals needed. The box of piston rings was however a bit beat up . It had been opened and was missing a single ring. I spent the next 2 weeks trying to call 505 and inquire into the remaining parts and missing piston ring and didn't get an answer or a call back after leaving voice-mails. When I finally did get ahold of someone 3 weeks after receiving my initial shipment I was told that they would send me a piston ring and that my cylender head, pistons, rods, fuel injectors and roller rockers were on the way out to me. 2 weeks later I finally got my pistons and piston ring, but nothing else. When I took the pistons to my machine shop to finish boring so that clearance was good the machine shop asked me if i was sure that i ordered cas pistons because I had received forged pistons. At this point it is 6 weeks after placing an order that I was told would be 2 weeks to fulfill. I was never notified that 505 was behind or that it would take this long to get my parts, which would have been understandable given the pandemic if I had been notified. I once again tried to call 505 for over a week and got one answer in their office and left a message with the secretary about my concerns, which were never addressed or even responded to. At this point I sent an email to 505 explaining my concerns and stated that if my already paid for order couldn't be fulfilled that I had no problem filing a dispute on my payment and seeking a refund. The only response that I got was a tracking number that was never received by USPS. A month later I received another tracking number that had actually been received by USPS. This shipment finally had my cylender head which by this point I have 0 faith in the quality of 505's work so I had it checked by my preferred machine shop to find out that the head hadn't even been completely machined and had mismatched valves. It also didn't have the rockers that I was told would be on it. Instead I received those another week later, about the same time that I got the new injectors. Now that I have all of the parts I am assembling this engine to findout that the timeing kit doesn't have the spring for the retaining pin and 505 didnt bother to include the woodruff keys for the timing sprocket or harmonic balancer. So in short my 2 week order took 3 months, was missing parts and wasn't even completely machined and properly assembled. I will also post this review on 505s website so we will see if they just delete it. read more

Horrific experience! Lousy service! Buyer BEWARE!! Zach Steele and his employees took our boat from the marina to his shop for repairs. Weeks would go by without returned calls until I personally had to drive four hours to his shop to find our the status of our boat. We finally had it repaired and when we took Possession of our boat it was severely damaged. Once inside our boat we immediately noticed that it had been ransacked. All of our electronics, tools and appliances were ripped out of the walls and mounts. Clothing, TVs, power tools, cordless vacuum coffee maker, stereos all gone. Calls to Zach Steele go unanswered. We were told through his employee Shane, that he isn't going to be hd responsible for the thousands of dollars of damage and missing items. For all I know, they stole these items to include my shower head and hose! We will be filing civil and criminal complaints and will never do business with these thieves again. read more

A Claim was Filed January 22nd, 2014 with Better Business Bureau regarding the products, service and treatment of customers from the Business Owner of 505 Performance: Zach Steele I initiated a transaction with Zach Steele @ 505 Performance on October 15, 2013. The purchase originally was to be an engine build only. Upon speaking with him further he said he had another item that had been on his shelf for over a year and he wasn't going to use it. He also shared that he walked out onto the shop floor that morning and told his employees he was going to sell that item (whipple supercharger). I decided I would purchase that from Zach and stated to him that I would be doing this in 2 stages. (1st stage engine, 2nd stage supercharger) He quoted me a price on the brackets he would need to fabricate to adapt the supercharger of $350. I agreed, we proceeded with a transaction for $1,500. He sent me an email with in 24 hours regarding that transaction. As part of the transaction I requested more information on the details of the build to be sent and he agreed. Upon checking my email Zach Steele adjusted the price of the bracket to $400 and included the price of the Supercharger with the Engine. More then a couple weeks went by and no details regarding the build sent. Only an email sent of our financial transaction. I called and spoke with Zach again letting him know about intended payment amount and date to expect it and asked about emailing information. I also brought up the changes I saw him do even though we spoke and I voiced something else different then what he did. I had also sent him an email in-between that time frame with no reply. Upon doing more research on 505 performance and Zach's history of transaction with others. It seems his common practice of business lacks the customer care and courtesy some expect when spending money with a company for products and service. I spoke with Zach on November 22nd, 2013 Letting him know that I have decided to stop all workings on the project with him. According to his website projects deemed as "special" are subject to refund review. One of the products he had on his shelf and had been sitting there for over a year ( A Whipple Supercharger ). I gave 505 Performance several phone calls over the passed 3 weeks. The comments I got was Zach is out of the office, Your job is still being worked on, I'll have him call you back. Never received a call back from Zach Steele to find out the status of the job. When I finally got a hold of him 3 weeks ago Zach Steele said it would be shipped on monday January 13th 2014. I spoke Zach Steele this morning aproximately 8 am PST (9-10am CST/MST his time) asked him the status of my job and if it had been shipped as per what he said. Zach Steele replied with it's still being worked on. I asked him when I can expect to see it. He said he wasn't sure and got quiet. I then replied with "I'll wait, and you can let me know". He put the phone down and for about 5 mins of silence then I heard a customer enter the room and he proceeded to conduct a transaction, and then a phone call on his other line. 10 minutes of waiting and he picks up the phone " You still there?" I responded with a yes. He then told me he wasn't sure when it was going to be done and that they were still working on it. At this point I attempted to inform him of a dissatisfied customer and that I was going to pursue other courses of action regarding his business practice and giving him the oppertunity to resolve the issue. He got pissed at me and raised his voice and cussed. He said it's going to go 1 of 2 ways. I can wait for them to do there thing in there time or he can give me a refund. I asked when a refund can happen he said weds. checks are cut. I asked him so today is weds. and I can get that done today. He replied hesitantly with " No, she's already cut the checks today. I won't happen till next week." Zach Steele had to have used the F-word at least 5-6x in the 2minutes he ranted. He then expressed to me that my job was not a priority and that he was working on several other vehicles for a race coming up and that he would get to my job in his own time. Called me other names such as pecker, f**ker. To conclude the conversation he put the phone on the desk when he was done raising his voice and let it be. I hung up shortly there after finding no reason to hold longer. desired outcome: I question this persons business quality and services. Horrible company!!! Zach Steele (owner of 505) will talk to you like you are a POS. I called multiple times trying to find out where my item was and get a tracking number to only get my head bit off because while I was on "hold" talking to my tech I told him I should have ordered the camshaft from crane or comp and not from 505 because they couldn't seem to get there sh*t together. This was the 3rd time I had called to only get the run around. I have 4 business's to run and don't have time to baby sit which is what I have had to do since I ordered from 505. I am on week 3 still waiting on the rest of the parts to show up and as soon as they do I am sending them right back and will NEVER use them again! I ended up ordering a cam from crane part number 750501 which I have used time and time again with very good success on stock Jeep 4.0 motors with no babysitting, being cussed at or a 3 week and some ship time. I should have read more about this company before I ordered. I have read ALL kinds of BAD stuff about this place since I have had my BAD experience. I'm just happy that I did not loose the customer on my end and was able to make them happy with a product from crane. read more

WARNING! DO NOT GO TO ZACH STEEL! Dealing with 505 Performance in Aztec, NM was a horrible experience! I called Zach and got a quote for rebuilding six FOX long travel off road shocks and by the time the deal was done I paid ($600) twice the amount I was quoted and I am still stuck having to pay another shop to rebuild my FOX air shocks. First off the guy had my shocks for three weeks before he even touched them. After finally getting my shocks back I notice none of the shocks were charged with the Nitrogen that I paid for, one of the steel braided lines on the shock was kinked and leaking shock oil, the set screws on the shock end cap were loose and one of the shocks was spray painted black instead of powder coated when I had paid for six shocks to be powder coated. I could not believe it! No honest shop would call that finished product! This was not the high performance quality I was looking for or I paid for. I instantly felt taken. He did have my sixth shock powder coated later and replaced the kinked line. Its been a couple months now and the powder coat is flaking off all the shock bodies because they did not sand blast them before powder coating. Worst of all none of the shocks hold nitrogen. The IFP internal floating piston in the reservoirs are leaking also so shock oil is mixing with the nitrogen. After calling Zach Steel (owner) he basically blamed me for any problems and for being a bad customer and then he hung the phone up on me. I have worked in the off road industry for several years and I know thats not how its supposed to be done. I Highly recommend finding another shop for any needs. He will rip you off. Since my case I have recently herd of others getting ripped off and Zach getting away with it. Please learn from my experience and go somewhere else. read more
