I would have normally given this company a satisfactory review until my recent exchange with the…read moreowner and his employees. I have been a client for more than 2 years here, I have always paid on time and never had a complaint until this month. While moving some equipment offsite I struck their security keypad with my forklift, My error, I said, what can I do to sort out the situation. The owner and management decided to threaten a lawsuit before the first conversation was over. In all honesty it was minor damage, less than $1000.00, and should have been reasonably resolved with a phone call to sort it out. Rather than deal with me directly their team chose to saber rattle and generally harass me while the repairs were being performed. I had indicated that I was willing to pay all damages inured provided they furnish an estimate and an invoice. When asked for the invoice they failed to produce it. A week after the work was performed, I was contacted by the local police who indicated the owner Richard Rush had attempted to have me arrested for fleeing the scene of an accident. Long story short is if you can store your stuff at another storage. I would do so. You probably wont have an accident but who knows? I was finally able get an invoice out of the admin, I asked for a release, which they refused to provide and again threatened further legal action. Basically these folks are hostile and fundamentally dishonest. Beware

WARNING: Be cautious of management scams at St. Helena Storage…read more After my experience it is no surprise to read poor reviews about this place. I wish I had Yelped them prior to agreeing to do business here. I had recently moved to the area and was under a time crunch desperate for storage with limited time, so I chose to rent a unit here for storage. They seemed friendly and helpful at first which is why I was surprised by this little scam. Once I was finished with the unit I returned the key with lock at the front desk leaving both the unit and key in mint condition. After returning to settle up the retrieval of my security deposit from the rental agreement I noticed they deducted an extra fee of $25. I had asked the manager at the front desk what the extra charge was and she replied that the key from the lock was damaged and not functional for their use. I reminded her that I returned everything in mint condition for her approval. Not to mention that it's not physically possible for someone to damage a key without intentionally doing so using vigorous force. There was no budging this scam artist here. It is obvious that they have some kind of trick going on where they dishonestly damage liabilities and hold the tenants accountable for them in order to keep deposit collaterals. I highly discourage anyone from practicing business with St. Helena Storage.

We were residing out of state, or we would have gladly moved to a different facility/different owner/managing company. Upon our return 21 months later, we opened our unit to find that much of our furniture, boxes, plastic crates, suitcases, chairs, etc. had been destroyed by rats. We spoke to 2 different managers (Danielle and Vicky) during the week we were there to move our furniture and household items, and both said they would provide us with the paperwork necessary to file a claim with the insurance company. (Insurance states coverage for vermin damage up to $500.) We never received the paperwork. We called and revisited the store, but each time the manager was out. We've written to the corporate office and have not received a response from them either. It's been 3 months since we left and have had to replace mattresses, sofa, love seat, coffee table (scratched and gnawed), stools, and office & game chairs where the leather was chewed, multiple boxes, etc. etc. This was a new facility when we started, and we thought it was in excellent condition. We saw a few rat traps outside the buildings, but none on the inside. The insurance contract does not list contact information, so if a claim is necessary, you are at the mercy of the manager to provide you the information. A horrible experience.

We visited Storage Master on 3205 Dutton Avenue on Thursday and met with the manager, Suzi. She was…read moreinitially friendly and helpful. She showed us a specific 10x30 unit we liked and quoted us $219 per month, compared with the $199 rate shown online for a generic 10x30. We particularly liked the unit's location and the fact that Suzi lives onsite, which gave us some comfort from a security standpoint. She also told us that, under a new California requirement, storage contracts must disclose the maximum rate a customer could be charged during the first 12 months. We appreciated what appeared to be transparency. Unfortunately, everything unraveled once we tried to reserve the unit. Suzi told us that, to receive the $219 rate for the specific unit she showed us, we would have to make the reservation online because the price would be higher if we rented it in person. The problem was that the website would not allow us to select or reserve that specific unit. My husband therefore made an online reservation for a 10x30 so that we would at least have a reservation in place, and then called to make sure it could be applied to the unit Suzi had shown us. Unfortunately, he was unable to speak with Suzi because she was not "on duty," so he was instead routed through StoragePRO's centralized customer service and an onsite employee named Danielle. Over the weekend, he was bounced between centralized customer service and Danielle. By then, the price for the same unit had already increased from $219 to $249. Danielle initially resisted taking a message for Suzi, insisted she could handle the issue, and then ultimately said there was nothing she could do. My husband called again on Monday. The price for the exact same unit had now increased again, to $279, just days after we had been quoted $219 in person. He again asked for Suzi to call us. She never did. I finally reached Suzi on Wednesday. Her first response was that "corporate" sets the rates and she could do nothing about them. After I explained that we had followed her instructions and tried to reserve the unit online immediately after our visit, but the website did not allow us to select that specific unit, she agreed to email corporate to see if she would be able get us the rate she initially quoted for the unit we wanted. She said she would get back to me early the next day. She didn't. When I had still heard nothing by that afternoon, I left her a message. Again, no response. So, within a few days: * We were told we had to reserve online to receive the quoted $219 rate * The online system would not let us reserve the specific unit we had inspected * The price for that same unit then went from $219 to $249 to $279 * We were repeatedly passed between centralized customer service and onsite staff * Multiple requests for a call back were ignored * A promised follow-up never happened * Even a follow-up message after that missed commitment received no response This was before we had even signed a contract or moved a single item into the facility. That is the biggest red flag of all. Once a storage unit is full, customers have very little practical leverage because moving everything again is expensive and disruptive. If this is how pricing and communication are handled before they have your business, it does not inspire confidence about what happens afterward. We decided to walk away and give our business to a storage company that actually seemed interested in renting us a unit, provided a written quote for the specific space we inspected, and understood that responding to and communicating with prospective customers is part of the job. Storage Master and StoragePRO gave us every reason to believe the pricing problems and communication failures would only get worse once all our belongings were inside and moving elsewhere became difficult and expensive.

The covered space was ok but the maintenance to the support arm that impacted getting in and out of the space never happened. My main complaint was their business practice policy regarding rental reimbursement of partial use of the 3 month rental interval period they sign you up for. Many months into our space rental, we paid our upcoming 3 month rent for the space. Near that time, we were also notified, as were all the space renters, that we would need to move our trailer out of the space for 3 days the following month ( a few weeks into the 3 month prepaid rental period ) due to gravel maintenance and grading. When we moved our trailer, we decided to relocate our trailer closer to our new home and give notice to Mighty Vault that we vacated our space by email and phone message, and we were seeking reimbursement of unused rent. Up to a week later, we received a call and we were told the business policy was they do not reimburse for prepaid rent, that we would have needed to go month to month before the 3 month prepayment, and then we would only have paid for one month, not 3 months. The business kept the more than $400 of unused rent. Additionally, we were told that this process was included in the initial contract information done many months before, which we had not recalled, and they had no way to reimburse partial amounts the of 3 month prepayment. While I understand contractually, I had not recalled that information. I find the policy as unfair in practice to the consumer and do not recommend this business as fair and trustworthy.
