I'd say that this place may have been 4 stars if my lake perch didn't have little pin bones everywhere. Despite my efforts to pick them all out, one of them got lodged in my teeth and another I accidentally swallowed and almost choked on. I didn't send it back because I was starving and didn't want to wait for a new one. It's a shame, too, because the flavor was great and I loved the lemon caper butter sauce that came on the side. It came with a seasonable vegetable, green beans, which were okay but the dill was overpowering and it was also heavy on the cracked black pepper. The brown rice was flavorful, but tasted kind of processed like minute rice or something. We ordered some appetizers to share before the entrees: calamari and Brussels sprouts. I liked that the calamari was just lightly fried, so it wasn't too heavy or greasy. The touch of lemon beurre blanc complemented it well, as did the fried artichokes and fresh tomatoes. The Brussels sprouts were also great - roasted to a crisp, with a sweet balsamic glaze drizzled on top along with toasted slivered almonds. Overall, I thought the food was solid. My coworkers were overall satisfied with their meals, too. I'd be willing to come back and try some of the other options on the extensive menu. read more

I have had bad food from here and decent food from here but this review is about the service. My food was messed up and they told me on my next visit i had a 40 carry out credit, on my next visit i was told no such credit exists. I was done with them but who isn't going to use a 40 dollar credit. The manager and hostess simple and slow if you know what i mean. I came here on a Thursday night and near 7/7:30, it was jammed packed. Only a few tables open. The hostesses didn't greet me upon arrival, but our server was super friendly. The calamari fritti was so good and a great portion (serves 2-4 people). Would totally get that again I was craving steak for once so I ordered the top sirloin. On Thursday's, 5th tavern offers $3 off an ROK at 5th entree (which includes steak, shrimp, and scallops on a black rock) the sirloin was 10 oz. And includes two sides and a soup or salad. The asparagus, lyonnaise potatoes, and French onion soup were great. Also included were two dipping sauces - I had zip and bistro. The bistro was good, it has a little kick to it but my favorite was the zip sauce. ***bonus: the steak had no fat on it My boyfriend had the 18 oz. Came in today for an early dinner, this was my first time dining here. Excellent food and service! Calamari was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Brussels sprouts were super tasty. Rattlesnake pasta was outstanding and a very large portion where every ingredient was the star of the show. Carrot cake was moist and not too sweet. I highly recommend all of these items and restaurant, and will absolutely be back... with a chance of that being tomorrow! read more

The first thing that I noticed about this restaurant was that it was staffed (host, hostess, servers, violin player on the patio) by very young people. When I asked about this of our server, he indicated that many of them were 17-19 yrs of age. He assured me that he was old enough to serve our bottle of wine at 19. The patio is a view of Telegraph Rd traffic and the parking lot. The furniture was comfortable, but we did have to seek a cushion for the chair I wanted to sit at. On my trip to the restroom, I did notice they needed attention - garbage in the stalls overflowed and the sink fixture needed repair. I harp on these points because the restaurant portrays itself as somewhat upscale and charges the respective prices. Regarding the food, I ordered the ahi tuna salad and my bf ordered the sirloin cooked on the hot stone with a baked potato and asparagus. The salad was stingy on the tuna, with thin strips of tuna over a deep bowl of cabbage, brussel sprouts and other rabbit fare. It also could have used more of the tasty dressing. The same amount of tuna would have been fine on a smaller bed of salad so long as it was sold as an app and not an entree salad. My bf was satisfied with his steak. I did think, if he didn't like the cook on it, it would totally be his fault since he was charged with the responsibility of cooking it! Funny thing, those cook-it-yourself spots,.....He did however have to scramble to find a spot to place the steak after cooking was complete, because the server didn't supply him with a plate. Also, tongs would have helped with this task. As a result his steak did have to camp out in my huge salad bowl for a while until Punky Brewster came back with a plate. Okay. A twilight zone experience here. Let's begin with we have been coming here for a number of years as a Blended Family celebrating our grown adult children's birthdays, our children getting engaged/married to including the addition of grandchildren plural to functions. We utilize 5th tavern as our go to family restaurant: birthdays and whatever other occasions in between a year.Over the years our family has now grown from 5 to 7 with the addition of two grandchildren.A year ago and one grandchild (Telegraph location) they put 5 adults at a high top table and expected us to put our 1 year old grandchild in double stacked high chairs in order to be near high table height. We refused due to the lack of safety in stacking high chairs and the potential for a busy one year old failing from the height.Mind you we were specific about having a low top and the need for a high chair. So, we go to the Charleston location for the next birthday. We did get a low top,however, the quality of the food was not what we were used to at the Telegraph location. So back we go to Telegraph and now we have another new addition, a 2 month old granddaughter. All in the one year. We have reservations and request 7 at a low top with two high chairs as you can put an infant carrier on a high chair.We have a 2 year old and a 2 month old now for reservations we tell them. Us grandparents arrive early to confirm at the Telegraph location that we are in fact at a low top with two high chairs. We are told yes. When our whole party arrives we are taken to a high top for 7 people. Why when there are multiple 4-8 seat low top tables open in the restaurant. So three strikes in a one year timeframe :messed up our reservation at Telegraph location, bad food in Clarkston, and the same messed up reservation yet again at the Telegraph location. On top of this as we are sitting there a mouse is crawling along the chair rail of the wall were our grandchild and his father are seated. In no great hurry to go anywhere soon either. I asked twice to speak with a manager. One ever came to our to our table and I did not want to cause an issue. I was blatantly refused my two requests. Maybe there is no manager? That would be par for the course of our experience. When staff came to catch the mouse we were told the babies come in through the door to the patio looking for their mothers. WHAT??? They just can't stop those babies from getting in...Umm,let's face it, if they have to keep catching mice them there babies are potentially being born inside and living in that restaurant! No comment was made that an effort had been made to exterminate them. They just chase them down and catch them. Over and over and over...Like it is the norm!Seriously, they catch them with napkins /ziploc baggies as you are dining.Tearing apart the booths, lifting the seats as the mice run away. Who is watching what is happening here?It used to be such a nice place to dine. Wait staff at both locations is subpar. We ordered two orders of Chips and queso and received one order of chips and a half cup of queso and a second half cup of queso....minus the chips. Our meals did not come out together. I don't get the logic of the whole situation.I get we are coming back from COVID and regrouping but I can't accept jeopardizing public health and safety. Both with the addition of mice infestation and trying to put 1 year olds at a high top in double stacked highchairs then still messing up our reservation yet a second time! I don't see coming back. I could not even enjoy the meal. All I could think of is that mice are being allowed to come in through the patio door,to run ramped inside, to deliver their babies as I can't see babies walking in looking for their mothers and how are they keeping prep tables, drawers, pans, utensils , food ... clean from droppings. And, if you want to dine at the new location 4th Tavern (Waterford location) you can't make reservations on the weekend. Only during the week. I mean really??? Okay I am DONE.Like just DONE. We ordered the steak salad, lamb shank. The lettuce in the salad didn't have much flavor. It was iceberg with a few sprigs of fancy greens. The dressing was bland and so were the cumcumber and beets. The steak in the salad wasn't seasoned well. Service was just ok. Since we were seated in the buffet area, I suspect the house suspect most people will order the buffet, which might explain the low number of wait staff available in the area. We didn't get a lot of attentive service since we ordered individual meals from the menu, instead of ordering the buffet. We sat where the Sunday Buffet is served -- nosy, high traffic area. I'm just getting around to this review, as I dined I'm back on March 15th; right before restaurants were shut down for dining in. I was excited to finally try 5th Tavern, as I had heard many positive reviews in the past. So I decided to take the opportunity to try the restaurant when my friend invited me to her birthday brunch. Overall, for the price of the brunch buffet, the food options were plenty. The food was ok, but I noticed that some of the food at the buffet had been sitting for a while, looked old, and I didn't notice that much refills on certain dishes were added during time I was there. Certain dishes looked picked over. Also, customer service was ok. Our waitress wasn't the most efficient, and it's wasn't really packed in the restaurant on this day, given it was a Sunday, but again, it was the height of when Covid cases first hit Michigan, so I'm not sure if that was the reason the restaurant wasn't packed. Anyway, for that reason, I couldn't understand the long wait for the waitress to take and bring drink orders, bring extra napkins, and etc. I probably wouldn't be quick to try this restaurant again, but as I stated before, for the price and options of the food, it's not a bad choice if you are interested in a cheap brunch. read more

This is my first time on Yelp. We got a carryout last night. I ordered beef tenderloin with zip sauce, lyononese potatoes, and french onion soup. The worst meal ever. The tenderloin was okay, but the "zip sauce" was not zip sauce. It was horrible. Not sure what it was -maybe oil and boullion?? The French onion soup was not good. The potatoes tasted like fried onions which is what the potatoe dish was - mostly diner style fried onions and potaoes, but way too many onions. Beware! read more

They had us seated in a timely fashion and we had a party of 25. Our service was great and we didn't wait too long for anything. The food was delicious! And we had apps, entrees and cocktails! My salmon salad was good but sadly mostly just salad and my Minnow didn't even come with tartar sauce, but to be fair those who ordered the burger (my daughter did and was happy with) needed mustard so amid the rather noisy atmosphere was the demand for (which sounded like a plea to) and fortunately I didn't order the chicken pasta which needed a side of vegetables rather than the gooey, cheesy stuff on it in over abundance which made my wife sick throwing it up that night... This is the best brunch in town! With all that is happening in the world, I was fearful that buffets would be a thing of the past! Since I had previously been to 5th Tavern's Saturday brunch, I was very enthused to hear that they are continuing their brunch tradition! If you are into brunch, 5th Tavern really seemed to go out of their way to make the tradition safe during uncertain times. I made a reservation in advanced and they even called to confirm the night before. I have never had a restaurant do that before, but I think it was a smart idea and I appreciated it. That way they could either prepare enough food, or plan the seating logistics to make the experience safe and distanced. You are required to wear a mask anytime you are not in your seat, and everyone seemed to be in compliance with the request. They seemed to move their buffet to a different larger space than the last time I ate here, which allows people to space out. The serving platters were turned away from customers and are behind an encasement. You now tell the staff what you would like, and they serve you. I prefer just a little taste of several items, and they were very good at not giving me too much. It seemed like the perfect solution and balance for those of us still craving a buffet brunch. I would love to see other establishments who offered buffets open back up as well. I love mimosas and 5th still has their famous bottomless mimosas during the brunch! This place has been my number one mimosa place on my list. They have a nice mix and you never have to ask for more, they circulate the room and refill glasses. Even though this is only my second time for brunch, I plan on coming back for these drinks alone! In the past I came for Saturday brunch. This time it was Sunday. I am not entirely sure of the difference, but their best feature is the omelette bar and crepe bar!!!! Honestly, I could just come here for the mimosas, crepes, and omelettes! Love them! They have all of the time honored toppings for both. This time I went for the apple crepe with caramel and the bacon, mushroom, jalapeno, spinach and cheese omelette. Sooo good!!! The other food is good as well. They serve a combination of breakfast foods and lunch/ dinner foods. They have a carving station and a bit of dessert, which I did not try wither option since I did not have room to eat more! I like their salad and chips and salsa bar. They have really good ranch. Their pasta and chicken is really nice, and I liked that they had several types of salmon. Their food is really wonderful. I did come here one time for dinner so far. While their dinner food was amazing, here is where I had more of an issue. The service was wonderful for breakfast, but for dinner our server was not very accommodating. Apparently they offer bread with the meal and he did not even let us know until we were done, paid, and out the door. His excuse was we had to ask, but since this was our first time at the restaurant (which he knew) we could not have known to ask! It was not a good customer service overall, but why did I eventually come back? The food! For dinner I had the lobster grilled cheese. It was sooo amazing, I knew this was a good place to dine. Unlike a restaurant located down the street, they did not skimp on the lobster. The sandwich was so crispy and garlicky, I do want to come here for another. Went as a group of 13 for the Saturday Brunch. Arrived when the doors opened at 10. We all chose the brunch as an option was to also order off the menu. Our server was very nice and attentive. We had several coffee and tea drinkers. The Brunch food selection was very appealing. Every thing was delish. Loved my made to order omelette. My only actionable feedback- the French toast was less than warm, and I understand hard to keep warm especially with the serving pan lid opening and closing frequently, but wish the SYRUP was warm, it would have definitely helped. Not sure why my group of friends continues to want to go to this restaurant, it has been going down hill for years now and this last visit was really a disappointment. The menu is lack luster and it too quite some time for us (4 couples) to find something to order. All were disappointed with the results. I personally got the Ahi Tuna and the slices on the tuna were disastrous and the tuna was cooked to much. It came with a rice that was mounded on the plate. We have been going there for years and this past saturday at 645 no problem getting a table and when we were leaving absolutely NO ONE in the dining room and the staff was really trying to push us to leave. Comments like, "does anyone want a little more water before you leave?" This as all our glasses of water were 1/2 full or fuller so essentially saying please get out of here, but there was no one else there and they weren't closing for hours. I've driven by here and heard about this restaurant several times. We finally were able to stop in and give it a try. We did not have reservations but it might be good to have them. Place seemed busy during our visit. The ambiance was nice and clean. Our server was attentive. Drinks and appetizers came quickly with no issues. Food was a little longer but not an issue at all. I had steak, daughter had burger, wife had salmon. Our appetizers were the calamari , steak bites both of which were delicious. All the meals were flavorful. Overall visit was great with no problems like other reviews. My only issue was my steak was not grilled it seemed like it was broiled or baked....LoL. Still edible, personally I hate sending food back. (That's just me). Pricing was on par to a nice mid tier to upscale restaurant. My friend and I frequent the restaurant often and have never had a negative experience until last week. The restaurant was busy, as it often is, but we waited in excess of 35 minutes for our dinner while tables that sat at the same time or after us were served. The wait was so prolonged that Anthony, the manager came over and apologized and to advise us that our dinner would be out "soon". Still with no dinner with him. Upon waiting an additional 10 to 15 minutes from when Anthony came over, our order came out. The food was hot and delicious as usual, but it was extremely disappointing that when we got the check, there were no comps offered and we were not even offered anything to compensate us for our time. As you know word of mouth and customer service is prime when there are so many dinner options and available ways for consumers to spend their money. We decided to spend ours at 5th Tavern, with the full intention of having a good experience and a good meal. You failed at the experience this evening and as a frequent consumer to your establishment it is disappointing your manager did not provide a higher level of customer service. We did not come out looking for a free meal, but we also did not come out with the intention to wait on our meal as if we were non paying customers. Our time is as valuable as yours or any other paying customer, so needless to say Anthony's response to our wait was very disappointing. read more

Quick review because I don't want to miss giving this place a five star review. Honestly it wasn't perfect but the taste and the cook and the price of my burger made up for it.yeah they sat us in the back part of the restaurant where it's more for banquets, and there were less people but I could tell they were trying to social distance. The service is kind of weird and spotty, but he did bring me two drinks the second by mistake and didn't charge me for it like he said he wouldn't. So maybe the extra beer is influencing my five-star rating, but I'm telling you that zip Burger was the bomb. Perfectly medium rare with a little pink in the middle, and excellent zip sauce and I added some bacon, cost me two bucks but the taste is worth it. The wife was happy with her $8 Greek salad, even if they forgot to put the chickpeas in it. I went for the fries for an extra two bucks and they were pretty good. So 5 Stars, why not, it tasted good the prices were good and they definitely don't deserve the three-star rating that Yelp currently has. We visited 5th Tavern today, February 16, looking for a great meal during this wintry weather unfortunately our experience turned out to be a disappointment. The greeters didn't greet me after entering the premises. I have to greet them first the 3 iof them before they said anything to me. I mentioned to them I need a table for 3, one of them went to check a table then came back. There's 2 of us waiting for 3 college students. Again, we approached the front desk staff if the table is ready, to our disappointment one of them told us she can't sit us until half of our party is present. She made us wait until all of us were there. At the area where she sat us, there were at least 5 unoccupied tables, at our table there were 2 menu. I have to get up and ask the front desk staff to get us more menu so we can order our food, eat and leave the restaurant. 5th Tavern is our to go place, close to where we live, it's the children's choice but I doubt it I will ever come back. This was the first time I've been to 5th Tavern, although I'd passed by it for years. I wanted to go somewhere different, and my sister suggested this. Their menu is extensive -- and I didn't even realize there was more on the back! I ordered the salad with salmon. Lots of greens, dried apricots, dried cranberries and cheese (I don't remembered if it was bleu or Gorgonzola), with a warm piece of salmon on top and served with a raspberry dressing. Our server, Blake, asked if we wanted fresh baked bread, and when we said yes, he came back with 2 loaves. And it was really good! He was also good about refilling my iced tea (even in the winter, I drink a lot of it!) and he even gave me one to go! The only real negative is that the restaurant is loud, probably because of the architecture. I will definitely add this to places to go to again. read more

Usually love this place. Did walk in, added name to reservation list waitresses told us 20/25 min. Every person who walked in after me was seated. So another 15 min go by now it's been45 min. We all have gotten up to check and my name was not even on the sheet but I was texted that I was on the list. My dad got up and asked what was going on and they took us to a table. As walking back I seen 4 tables open that seat 6. So I guess next time I need to say 6 instead of 4. Very disappointed and I've had Birthday partys here the last 3 years. read more
