One of the hostesses had a really bad attitude and was like it's just 10am and we were busy setting up for parties. She never apologized and was a complete tool while waiting on us. Service was excellent. We weren't crazy about being seated way in the back room, but we did have a party of 6, to be fair. One in our party had the tacos and they lacked flavor. Another in our party had a pasta dish and it, too, lacked flavor. But overall, we had a nice meal. Went for my birthday dinner yesterday and surprised how big this place is. The menu is also quite big and probably has something for most people. I decided to try the walleye which I was hoping would be better but only had a dusting of pecans.I had to use the lemon buerre it came with otherwise it was just plain. The potatoes were bland but I did like the green beans they were seasoned well. Now if I go back I would get the Cajun red snapper which is a little spicy but so flavorful and served with delicious coconut jasmine rice and was so good I want to try and make it at home. The place has high ceilings and background noise travels it was hard to hear each other most of the time. I wish I could do half points because it's not quite a 4 but like a 3.5. read more

We rented out the private room for a memorial luncheon after my mom's funeral. We had about 100 people attend. The management staff (Wig and Anthony) who helped make the reservation were more than generous. The servers and bartenders were outstanding and the food was delicious. NO protection around the food or having staff handle the spoons and serving you your choice of food like the Grand Tavern does. The wide range of food on the long buffet means meat eaters and vegetarians can pig out. 3 different types of salmon, chicken, beef, and ham. Omelet and crepes station. Large choices of sides and dessert if you like cheesecake. You can even order off the regular menu if you want. The place was so full that social distancing between table was just too 2021 for them. It was noticed by all in my group. Even with the wonderful food, I won't be back. Life has changed and I like eating at places that try to care enough about their staff and customers to do what is needed to keep them safe as you can. They don't. read more

Food- wife and I had salads, they were great. Good portions and well made. Service- our waitress was fantastic. Ambiance- facility is really beaten up and needs tons of maintenance. Waiting area has missing chunks of wall edges, gauges in walls, miss matched paint touch ups. Female bathroom at 5:00pm on Sunday was a disaster area. Tissue and toilet paper all over the place. Staff notified twice with no improvement- poor employee involvement and communication. In our opinion, if the customer is able to see the serving area looking like this -you wonder what the food prep areas are looking like too! I made a reservation on OpenTable for a cousins get-together. 14 people- and I requested the patio. We were placed in the back room with two separate tables set. The staff helped accommodate by moving tables together so that we all could visit but never answered to why we didn't get the patio as requested. Besides that little snag the service was good and the food enjoyed by all. I had the kale and quinoa salad with shrimp which hit the spot for me. My son had a steak the was prepared perfectly and my husband and daughter had other salads they enjoyed. If you're in the area I'd give it a try. Went here today with a friend, it was kind of in-between me (Clawson area) and her (WB). I wasn't planning on doing their breakfast buffet, but given that the buffet is $17.99 and sandwiches are like $14, it made sense to do so. I highly recommend making a reservation - we did not, and had to wait about half an hour, around 12:30pm on a Saturday. Favorite buffet items were: -Chicken piccata -Make your own crepe station -Sausage -Fresh fruit The dessert selection was just okay, as was the bacon. Desserts included little cookies, cheesecake bars, and some pre-portioned rice pudding. They also had a make your own omelette bar, which was pretty cool. I hadn't eaten at a buffet for about 1.5 years because of COVID so this was a treat. Service was kind of non-existent... We had a waiter, and he refilled my friend's coffee, but never refilled my water glass. Beverages are not included in the buffet, by the way. Service--let's talk about it. I'm not one to be belligerent. However, I needed to maintain my composure and speak objectively. I don't tell people how to do their job. I simply make objective observations and respond with my pockets accordingly. I am going to name drop because I have frequented this establishment in times prior and have NEVER had a pitiful and poor experience. Today was the most horrific experience I've had... and to share it with my sister, no less, and she's never been here. I wanted to ask for the manager several times but my sister said "don't worry" but it was one thing after another. After being met with several excuses, and an attitude that would put a toddler's temper tantrum to shame (all because an ordered dish was smothered in a tomato based sauce--not at all appealing), I was outdone. The straw that broke the camels' back was the waiter--Marco--asking me if I wrote down a certain number on my check. It seemed to be a disingenuous attempt at figuring out where his tip was. It was borderline harassment after receiving the service that was rendered. I was flustered, made an attempt to enjoy my mushroom and Swiss burger. Our table was not set upon arrival. I had reservations ahead of time so that was confusing. I'll forgive the abundance of flies that were occupying the area, as I'm sure they were all around the restaurant. To that end, Marco seemed like he didn't want to be there and was simply going through the motions and didn't want to ensure that the service he was giving was nothing less than stellar. It was subpar at best, which is saying something, considering the caliber of establishment 5th Tavern is. Although today's experience was not up to standard, it will not deter me from going. My only request will be not to have seating arrangements in Marco's section. Better yet, I'll call ahead to ensure he's off the clock for the day before I go. I'm embarrassed to even have to write this review, but it's truthful and objective. I enjoyed my time here. They are able to accommodate really large parties. I saw a table of about 20 or more people in the back dining room area. They had enough staff to handle the crowd on Mother's Day weekend. I had a party of 10 and everything went smoothly. You can order off the menu or eat from the buffet which was $30 per person. I opted for the buffet because why would I not? They have a good selection of food to choose from. Apparently the owner is also owner of the Grand Tavern restaurant as well so the set up is very similar. Here they had a little less selection in the buffet area but they still had more than enough to keep me satisfied. The bread pudding may not look that great but please don't skip over this. It was really good and everyone I recommended it to really enjoyed it as well. The sauce to go on top was watered down and not very flavorful. I really enjoyed the baked salami and mashed potatoes. The salad bar with the fresh fruit was good. You have a few different options for dessert from mini pie samples to a few different flavors of cookies. There's a crepe station, omelette station, prime beef craving station. I left full and very satisfied. Drinks are not include so you'll pay for that. I like how they were able to separate our checks as well. I'm not sure why it's such a problem for many restaurants to this day. Only thing I didn't like was the fact that the buffet was on the other side of the restaurant. Grand Tavern had a better setup. I wouldn't mind coming back but I'd opt to go to Grand Tavern 1st. No pictures because I just wanted to enjoy my time. You should definitely check it out for yourself. read more

Wow I found a new happy hour spot! (HH served at the bar). They had some great menu choices and great drink specials. Someone next to me was dining on some kind of fantastic smelling beef appetizer loaded with veggies and some kind of liquid crack - I mean sauce - that I was dying to try. Next time I go it's on like Donkey Kong. The server was very attentive, food came out pretty quickly, and I loved the styling of the restaurant. The only thing they could improve upon is more purse hooks under the bar. Most definitely returning and soon! read more

Updating my review to less stars due to tonight's abysmal meal/experience and the second time we've experienced sub-par service. Here is what happened this time... - Our server was absolutely terrible. When asked about the wines, she admitted she didn't know a single thing. I ordered the Malbec, but was later told they didn't have any. I asked about the six different Cabernets, and she didn't know anything that made them different from each other. When I asked where they were from, she pointed to the menu and said California. I said "I'm from California and it's a big state, what part of California?" She didn't know. - My dad wanted scallops, but we didn't want to have to cook them ourselves with that hot slab at our table. She said that she would have the kitchen staff cook the scallops for him, but they came out on the slab anyway. He tried cooking them, but they pooled up in a bunch of water. It was awful. Don't order that "cook on a hot slab" crap! - Do you want water? Wait forever for someone to show up again! - Food is absolutely average... I would say it's somewhat on par with Applebee's, but way more expensive. I'll never go back again! read more

Unfortunately, I am *livid* with my experience at 5th Tavern (Bloomfield Hills).* I was having a nice evening with friends until the waiter dropped an entire tray of food right behind. This caused me to tuck my head under my arms in airplane crash mode. After all the contents finished crashing to the floor and I stopped holding my breath out of fear, I turned around to see juices from the sizzling steak and mashed potatoes all over my wool winter coat. I had to ask for the manager's assistance. *I was not offered any napkins from the staff. We asked the manager, Zitlalic Haro for some assistance for this matter i.e. to comp my wine to offset the dry cleaning bill, her response was I do not think it is that serious just wipe it off with some water.* Who cleans wool in water? I then asked to speak with her boss, Anthoney; she did not know his last name. So I ask what kind of ill trade individuals are in Manager roles today. She finally said she would remove the wine from my bill but could not refund it until the morning. I still wanted to speak to her boss to better understand the poor customer service I was receiving. She turned to retrieve him and returned to say he left for the evening. I am not sure who Anthoney is but my attempt to do a little research found the owner information; Operated by partners Jerry and Louis Sanchez ... and largest in the small chain owned by George Lukaj, 5th Tavern. The food was fresh, good and the presentation of the buffet was nicely done. However, the toppings for the made to order omelets were not behind an enclosure, all of the guests were able to stand over, breathe over and talk over (probably spit on) the exposed toppings. There should be a barrier between the guests and the food being prepared. Our waitress was nice, pleasant and attentive. The price was decent, although the same restaurant is less expensive in a more suburban area a few miles away. Went here for a work luncheon. I would like to say a great job to the server we had because our table really put that man to work! I wish I could remember his name but he stayed with a positive attitude and was very quick on his feet. I tried the cherry bbq salmon. It was different because I never had bbq sauce on salmon but i wasn't mad at it. The only thing I didn't like was that they obviously depended on the sauce for seasoning and didn't really bother with salmon. Bread for the table was delicious as always and the crab and spinach dip was really delicious! You can't go wrong with crab and spinach! Four of us came in for a Saturday afternoon lunch meeting, and though it was crowded everything flowed really well. Our server, Kayli was the BEST. She recommended a great (5th Cabernet) red wine. Nice pour too! My Maurice salad was beautifully plated, fresh and very tasty. Finished with a hot, fresh cup of decaf which was great. We were able to linger some to work our meeting. Everyone was pleased with their selections. Noise level was high given the numbers there, but the vibe was welcoming and friendly. I recommend 5th Tavern as a great group gathering space. We decided to enjoy one of the last warm days in Michigan this past Sunday by sitting outside at 5th Tavern, but unfortunately, the experience was a letdown. It started well with quick service for water, but after that, no one checked on us for the next 30-40 minutes. We were enjoying the weather and each other's company but eventually had to get up and ask the host for our waitress because we realized how much time had passed. During our wait, multiple people leaving the restaurant were blasting music from their cars and motorcycles, with foul language blaring. I'm all for music, but it was so loud that we couldn't even hold a conversation. Everyone else on the patio seemed equally annoyed. When the waitress finally came over, she gave a quick explanation for the delay, which we brushed off. Then, when the food came, one order was completely wrong. A salad that was supposed to have shrimp instead of chicken arrived with both. We sent it back because the food couldn't touch chicken, but when it came out again, it still had both chicken and shrimp. By the time the correct order finally arrived, everyone else had finished eating, and we didn't trust that the salad hadn't just been "fixed" by picking the chicken off. The service throughout was disappointing--no apology from the waitress, no one checked in to see if we needed anything, and they just dropped the bill on the table with zero communication. Overall, it was a frustrating and unpleasant experience. read more

I don't normally post a bad review if I have a bad meal at a restaurant. This time is different since l became ill after my meal. It's been a few years since I have had an upset stomach and cramping after a meal. Last night, I had the walleye on a friend's recommendation. At first, it tasted a little bit off, then by the third or fourth bite, it became worse. I stopped eating it since it was obviously spoiled. My friend stopped eating his after two bites for the same reason. The waiter was informed, and he did offer my friend a substitute meal. Since I had lost my appetite, I didn't send my meal back, I left it unfinished. I did pay in full for this meal. On a side note, I have not sent food back to the kitchen in over 30 years. I would have felt better if the waiter, chef, or manager followed up after our meal. This was a situation where there was something wrong with the food (fish) rather than a customer not liking the taste. I didn't get the sense that the restaurant was acknowledging this. read more

To be honest we were hesitant due to some bad reviews we saw but decided to try it out so we can do our own review...im not sure why this place had a bad rating because it was absolutely incredible! When I first landed in Michigan I needed to grab something to eat for dinner. Initially I was perusing google maps and Yelp to see what was walkable if possible near the hotel I was staying at. I lucked out in that my Aunt and Uncle were staying at the same hotel so I got a lift over to dine here with them. Sit down restaurants . . . not a lot of immediate options within a one-two mile span and it was starting to get late and if I know anything, everything in Bloomfield Hills would be closed by 10 or 11pm with the exception of IHop and McDonalds. This isn't some hopping urban town. So it was a mad dash over to 5th Tavern. I was excited because they had some pretty good beers on tap and I wasn't with my immediate family that's on some kind of non-alcoholic cleanse. Tried both a local stout and IPA and they were both very good. They were out of the New Holland's Dragon's Milk Bourbon Barrel aged stout which there was a silent tear roll for but I quickly got over it. The bread was pretty amazing. They gave us a heaping plate of cut up Italian bread that was super soft and coated already with some butter and garlic. This was a winner of a bread basket. We split the coconut shrimp as an app which was on the sweeter side but okay. For my dinner I had a turkey burger with sweet potato fries and kind of kept it simple but the lobster mac and cheese was seriously tempting. Turkey burger was very good and moist with sliced avocado and swiss cheese. My aunt had a vegan beyond burger that looked kind of really disappointing and my uncle had the black n bleu flatbread that looked divine as it was covered in sirloin, caramelized onions, and blue cheese. Service was pretty good and fast. I've never even heard of this place. Not sure how long it's existed but I don't think it was around five years ago at least. Definitely needed for this stretch on telegraph and it was way better than walking to Five Guys or Ihop that night. read more

I'd say our experience was good, not great. The food for the most part was pretty good. I ordered the lamb shank in red wine w/mashed potatoes and root veggies. It was delicious and HUGE. I could easily make 4 meals out of it, it was that big. It also came with soup and I chose the tomato bisque which I also thought was really good. My bf got the 10 oz sirloin cooked on the rock. It was not a great cut of meat and was a bit fatty and grisly. Also as others have mentioned, once you get your meat cooked how you like it you don't have a plate to put it on so it continues to cook or overcook. That's pretty weird. Our waitress was nice but very inexperienced it seemed. Two of us asked for drinks off of the specials board at the front and she had no idea what any of the drinks were and we tried to describe them to her. I'm not sure either of us got the right drink, my friend sent hers back and ordered something else. I drank mine but it wasn't great. She also couldn't seem to understand us when we where ordering and we had to keep repeating ourselves. Drinks took forever and we had to ask for water multiple times. We also had to ask her to clear our plates after each course to keep our table from being overly cluttered. Another issue was we were seated in a booth next to a window. It was so cold my leg was freezing and I couldn't take my coat off. It made for a somewhat miserable experience. So - food, pretty good depending on whose order, (I loved mine), service was so so, drinks not so good. Prices for the amount of food were generous. This was my first time in the door of the 5th Tavern on a busy stretch of Telegraph Rd in Bloomfield Hills. I was here for a monthly luncheon with six good friends and former colleagues I had worked with over the years. The 5th Tavern is an upscale bar-restaurant with a fairly impressive lunch menu of appetizers, salads, burgers, soups and salads. However, I thought its rotating draft beer offerings were a bit limited for an establishment billing itself as a "Tavern". While nursing a cold glass of cloudy Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy, I ordered a cup of French Onion Soup and their Thai Chicken Salad. The soup was dynamite while the Thai salad lacked the spicy 'Bangkok-style' kick I was looking for despite its totally fresh ingredients. What a shock. This isn't a cheap restaurant imo. $17 for a burger & fries for lunch I would expect the burger to be pretty good. I can say it was the worst I've ever had. Ever. I ordered a Kobe beef burger and it was literally 2 pieces of char without any meat in the middle. I would have been embarrassed to send it out. My husband had the beyond beef veggie burger and it was burned "beyond" recognition . Add in a less than friendly server and I wouldn't go back to ANY of his restaurants. read more
