This review is late by about 3 years, but I got the sleeves of my leather jacket shortened by a few inches back in February of 2020. Marco was able to take them in at the shoulders, and I was able to get my jacket back within a week. Definitely not cheap (wasn't expecting it to be anyway), but I now have a leather jacket that fits me absolutely perfectly and that I fall in love with all over again every time I see myself in it. I found this spot on Yelp and am glad I did! I had a bridesmaid's dress from David's Bridal that needed to be hemmed before a wedding this fall. Their location is a suite in a large building but it's very easy to get to, you can take the elevator up without stopping at security plus it's right in front of you when the elevator doors open on the 7th floor. No need to knock, just head in. There are two changing rooms so I came in and tried on my dress, he pinned it for me while ensuring the length was exactly what I wanted, and then I came back a week later and it was perfect! The only thing to note is they charge per yard for dress tailoring - so if your dress is multiple layers and/or flowy, it's a lot of fabric to hem and the cost goes up. I'm sure that's the case anywhere but just be prepared. I was able to pay a deposit when I dropped the dress off, and pay the rest when I picked it up. David's Bridal (where I bought my dress) is not only a huge company but was quoting me a really long wait time to get it hemmed - I'd rather give these local guys my business plus get the dress back much sooner. I recently got a hand-me-down leather motorcycle jacket from my uncle -- we found out it was a size 38, big for me (I'm a tailored 36). I needed the sleeves shortened, and shoulders and sides taken in. Everything I read on reddit said "it's a huge risk to try and get leather tailored, they need the right equipment, it's very hard, and requires skill and experience and if they don't know what they're doing, they'll ruin it" I read reviews from around the city and ultimately took it to Marco thinking "well I got it for free so ... here goes". Marco is friendly, professional, and incredibly welcoming. He gives off the energy that he absolutely loves his craft, and just loves working with clothes and leather. When I came back a week later, the jacket felt like it was custom made for me -- sleeves are exactly right, shoulders are exactly right, the body is correct but doesn't restrict when I move my arms around, and still has the room to wear thicker winter sweaters underneath. If you have any leather at all, Marco has the skill to handle it correctly. Leather tailoring IS expensive. There's no way around that but it is a skill that can only be done by hand and with years of experience, so it felt correct to pay him what his skill is worth. Just know that going in, put aside some money each month, and get it done. read more

I believe he's a talented tailor and I did have issues, which is why 3 stars instead of 4. Summary: Good tailor. Very friendly, but certainly not always truthful. Details: During the initial alteration session for my suit, they seemed to know what they were doing. They told me everything that needed to fixed. I happily obliged. I asked for the 10% first time customer discount online, which they gave. So far so good. They didn't call me to say it was prepared. However, they did have the suit ready in a week as promised. So far so good. The problem starts when I went to try on my suit. I hated the somewhat false reaction. "oh it looks beautiful, fits beautiful." I couldn't stop looking at my shoulders, which were obviously protruding out with a weird dent (since the pads were too large). He insisted it was great until I expressed some concern again. He agreed after a 2nd time and acknowledged the shoulder protrusion. I didn't think this was a bad situation. I know this happens and I am okay and ready to see how to fix this (even pay to fix this if it wasn't his fault). Here's the problem. Without me ever accusing him of anything, his first reaction was "I told you about the shoulders, but you said no it's too expensive." And his other coworker also says, "yes he told you." I immediately replied, "don't lie to me." What a flat out lie. I know I would've made the alteration on my shoulders without hesitation, so don't lie. I was happy with the service until at any sign of discontent, they turn around and blame the customer. Ultimately, they apologized so keep that in mind. They brought in the shoulders for an additional $80 instead of $100 to help out. But I do not like businesses that lie to their customers and turn the blame on them when something goes wrong. That is exactly what this place did. Will update review once I pick up the suit again and will grade on final product read more

I bought a beautiful Schott 571 that fit me in the shoulders but otherwise was a bit to big. Marco shortened the sleeves and tapered it so it hugs my waist perfectly. You can't tell the jacket was ever tailored but now it fits perfectly. Leather is difficult and unforgiving anyone can do a suit but leather takes a special craftsman. If you have to tailor leather Marco is your man. read more

Another tailor absolutely botched a zipper replacement job on my Margiela leather moto jacket, so I brought it in to see what could be done to mitigate the damage (holes everywhere, zipper not aligned correctly, sloppy stitching, poorly closed seams, etc.). Since it was leather I was worried that it couldn't be fixed, but 6 Avenue Tailor was able to make the jacket look 100% better by redoing the zipper and carefully adjusting the stitch line to hide most of the previous tailor's mistakes. It was a warm day in NYC today, but I was so excited I ending up wearing it back to the office. I am coming from a 10 year career in garment manufacturing, and this level of tailoring skill and aesthetic sensitivity is hard to come by. I will definitely return for future projects! read more

Every experience I've had with Marco has been positive. He's made very baggy suits fit perfectly, and I go to him with everything more complex then pant hemming (I no longer live that close to him). Look, he's on 6th Ave in Mid-Town, he's going to be pricy... To be expected. Most importantly, I trust him. The extra $20 on a $250 order of multiple suits, shirts etc is worth the peace of mind. This was my first experience using a tailor in NYC and it went so smoothly. I brought in a dress I am wearing for a wedding purchased from Azazie. It was too long by many inches and they were able to hem it perfectly so I can easily walk in the dress. It was $125 for the hem and it took them exactly 1 week to complete it for pick-up. They encouraged me to try it on when I picked it up to make sure I was satisfied and reassured me that if I tried it on again at home and didn't like it, they would fix it to my liking. I went to 6 Avenue Tailor to get a shirt taken in. On the website it says that this will cost $15 per seam, and since a dress shirt has two seams I figured, "well, it's a bit pricey at $30 but I'll try it this once." I get to the shop and I'm told that the $15 per seam they advertise on the website is for their fast/uglier way of doing this; it's actually $20 per seam if you want it done nicely (this isn't listed anywhere online). Feeling a bit fleeced but already being there I say fine and am told it'll be less than a week. Three weeks later I call and am told, umm it'll be ready in a couple days. Finally, a month later I pick the shirt up. In short, the shirt was taken in nicely and the seams look good, but the whole experience left a very sour taste in my mouth. I don't intend to return. The place is a little hard to get to and I still am not sure if you have to buzz every time or what?!? But they did an amazing job!!!! The father does beautiful work and the son is super polite, welcoming, and professional. I brought in a dress from JCrew with a scalloped edge and asked them to create a hemline and shorten it, (I am super super short and always need things shortened), and they did a beyond amazing job. Every time I wear it I go on about what an amazing job they did! I needed to a tailor to adjust a suit for a wedding. When I put on the suit for the first time in about a year, the suit looked ridiculous - people thought I was given a hand-me-down from my father. Apparently my arms, chest, and waist shrunk quite a bit over the past year. Marco sized me up, took measurements and made adjustments with a few pins. Asked me what I thought and if I wanted any other adjustments. He made a few suggestions on how the suit can look better and I agreed with his assessment. His professional opinion gave me more confidence in his work even before he made his first stitch. A week later, I came to pick up the suit. Marco had me try the suit on to make sure I was happy with the changes. It looked good, but I had a small concern about one side that looked a little less 'cut' than the other. He told me it was no problem, he would make the adjustment and I could come back in an hour to pick it up. I came back, tried the suit on again, and it was perfect. Marco takes a lot of pride in his work. His prices are probably among the lowest in midtown Manhattan. I'm happy with the results. Highly recommended if you need a good tailor in the city. read more

I brought in three leather coats to be altered. A shearling and a lambskin coat both were way too big after a weight loss, and another shearling did not get worn much because the bulky hood didn't work for me. I came all the way from South Jersey to Manhattan based on the great reviews, and the work was worth the trip. Marco did a beautiful job on all three coats--the ones that were big fit perfectly (and as if they were made that way), and with the other shearling he converted the hood I didn't like to a collar. His work is not inexpensive, but the results are worth it. As with many things, you get what you pay for. He is an expert and I'm happy I'll be able to enjoy my nice coats. I dropped off a bridesmaids dress that I needed to be altered two weeks ago. I was told that I could come to pick it up on August 8. When I went by the store, the door was locked. Over the next few days, I made multiple attempts to call the shop and to go by to pick up the dress. Today when I call, I received a message that the number had been disconnected. I've tried to reach out to them via Facebook, but I have received no response. Now I'm panicking because I am not sure I will have a dress for the wedding this weekend. They have done a good job with the dresses and pants I brought for tailoring. They are on the expensive side but so far have been worth the cost. I had to have a bridesmaid dress hemmed, as well as the bustling lowered and rib cage taken out and you could barely tell any work had been done. They also repaired a hole in a pair of seersucker pants - they did a good job but it was still noticeable and they didn't charge me because it didn't live up to their standards, which I appreciated. I ordered 2 supposedly custom suits from one of the popular "traveling tailors" - 1 business suit and 1 tuxedo. Both came and were so far off the mark that they essentially needed to be re-made. Pants taken in, legs slimmed, hemmed, fitted all around. tux jacket was way too big. The sleeves, chest, and form fit all needed fixing. Marko did it ALL in just a week, made some minor adjustments on all the garments free of charge after I came back for the fitting and had them ready the following day.
