I walked up to the register expecting this to take maybe thirty seconds. The cashier looked at me and said, "I'll be right back." No problem in theory. Except what followed was one of the slowest, most passive aggressive performances I have ever seen in a store. He did not just walk slowly. He dragged himself across the store like every step was an act of protest. He went to deal with another customer somewhere else, moving at a speed that said very clearly, "Your time means nothing to me." No apology, no "Give me one moment," nothing. Just vanishing while I am standing there at the register like an idiot holding two candy bars. Then the return trip. Same slow shuffle back. No urgency, no acknowledgment that I had been waiting this whole time. By the time he finally got back, several minutes had passed for something that should have taken less than a minute. I told him, very calmly given the situation, that he should have checked me out first. His response was, "He was ahead of you." That explanation would carry more weight if he had shown any sign of trying to be efficient or considerate. Instead, he decided to prove a point. He started scanning my two candy bars with exaggerated slow movements, like he wanted to annoy me on purpose. This is not just bad service. It is contempt for the customer. If you work a register, your job is simple. Acknowledge the person standing in front of you. Move with some basic level of urgency. Do not act like ringing up two items is an inconvenience to you. And absolutely do not respond to feedback by intentionally slowing down more. Management needs to take a serious look at who they put at the front of the store, because this kind of attitude drives people away. I will go out of my way to avoid this location from now on.

I prefer the Howell Walgreens because it's bigger and has more selections, but this location still…read morehas that neighborhood "everyone knows your name" vibe that I really like. They employ locals and I can usually find exactly what I need. The downsides are the pharmacy getting backed up and the store occasionally closing early, which is totally inconvenient. They also have photo department issues they don't always have the paper or card stock needed for online orders, so they sometimes send you to another location. Overall, good atmosphere but definitely room for improvement!

On Friday November 7th at approximately 6:30, I went into the Walgreens in Freehold by Acme. I had…read moresome time while waiting for my food order and my 2 year old needed shampoo and soap. I went online and saw the Raw Sugar Kids shampoo and conditioner in the coconut scent was on sale 50% off. I found it and did notice the price listed was the original price. I went up to the register and it also rang up the original price. I showed my phone to the young man helping me and he started to say he was going to adjust it. That's when TAY, the customer lead, came up and told me the price wasn't for in store. She told me I had to do a pickup order. I said okay and she, rather curtly told me to "step over there so they can help other customers." I responded with "of course, no problem". When trying to place the pickup order it stated I needed an order of $10 or more. I only needed the shampoo. When the other customers had left, I went up again and said the pickup option did not work for me and could she please just do a price adjustment. (I have later learned Walgreens policy is Walgreens does not match competitors' prices, but it will match its own prices from Walgreens.com for in-store purchases. To get a price match, the item must be identical in every way, and you must have a store associate verify the online price. This is limited to one transaction per customer per day.) She said she couldn't and that price wasn't for an in store purchase. I asked where it says that on my phone. She couldn't answer me. I asked if she could show me any documentation stating that. She said she couldn't but I could come back on Monday and speak to someone. My voice did get louder as I asked again where it states online purchase or pickup. She again could not give me an answer. I then went to hand her my phone and said "please show me where it says not in store". I was then told, " l don't want to look at your f*cken phone". Immediately, my voice did raise as I told her I wanted her name, the corporate number and her manager's name. She started writing it on a scrap of paper and I snapped, "don't forget your manager's name". That is when she crumpled up the paper and told me to "get the f*ck out of the store" and she was calling the police. I yelled "excuse me, for what? Wanting a price adjustment or an explanation?" She then grabbed the phone and kept her back to me. I called her a coward and did call her yell an obscenity as I walked out. I moved my car a few aisles away because I was still waiting for my food order and I did not want it to seem like I was lingering to start anything. A few minutes later, two Freehold police cars show up. I explained what happened and they understood that I only wanted an explanation or adjustment. Then they went into the store. When the officer came out, I was told I wasn't being charged with anything (umm, I was the one who was initially verbally assaulted) but I was going to be given a no trespassing order to not return to that Walgreens for 6 months. So, TAY was not following Walgreens policies, cursed more than once at a customer, called the police and had a no trespassing order put on someone that never once threatened her, the store or anyone in it. TAY should not be working in customer service.
