The service was excellent, and the sandwiches we had were absolutely delicious (ham, egg and cheese sandwich and the Jersey turnpike sandwich). The young man who greeted and served us was incredibly friendly. Since it was our first visit, he took the time to explain the menu and offer samples of their delicious breads, which we really appreciate. Prices are very reasonable, given the quality of the food and service. We can't wait to return to try more of the items that caught our attention on the menu. I've passed the shopping center thousands of times and never knew this was in here. We were looking for a local breakfast and had heard recently about Krust. It's a tiny cafe with maybe 5 or 6 tables. We were greeted right away and told to take a seat. The owner told us how they had bread samples and we tried those while we looked over the menu, so good. We got a jam sandwich which was amazing and an egg and cheese also so good. The bread was awesome. The owner was super friendly and we appreciate his recommendations. Gracious owner of a small, quirky (that's a good thing) place. Soon as we sat down the owner offered us bread samples. We tried the meat bread, sourdough and chocolate. All very good. The roll my breakfast sandwich was on was soft with sesame seeds. It was great! The sandwich had Taylor ham, bacon, egg, cheese, a hash brown and bacon-jam. What a treat. Visited Krust Café Freehold today for the 1st time. It definitely will NOT be the last. The place is small but cute. The food absolutely delish. I was greeted by a man who I now know from videos is the owner. Very nice helpful and welcoming. He showed me bread samples and I opted to taste the chocolate bread. OMG No words. I ended up buying the last loaf. He gave me suggestions for lunch and I chose the Fancy Bird Shooters. Delish!!!! And the chips that come with it.... Wow! You can't go wrong with anything you pick from the menu. All the food is amazing! My go to breakfast choice is "the jam" sandwich, the bacon jam is a game changer. I don't know where they get their bread from but it is always fresh and soft, really brings the sandwiches to another level. Krust is the definition of a hidden gem. I can guarantee in a year they won't be so hidden. The place is awesome baking their own bread and letting you sample pretty much everything. The pork roll egg and cheese on homemade bread is one of the best in the area. We also bought a sourdough loaf fresh out of the oven and it was divine. The place looked tiny from the outside, so we weren't sure if they only sell bread to go or if they have tables for dining in. Hubs and I decided to give this place a try, whether just buying a loaf of bread or dining in. Imagine our surprise to find out that the place was packed with customers dining in! We were able to find a table after arriving. It's a tiny and cute place with about 5-6 tables for people to dine in. Behind their swinging doors is a pretty big kitchen. I was surprised at how homey and large the place was. They also have an extensive menu. Hubs got the 'Maters-n-Eggs, which has seared seasoned tomatoes, eggs and cheese served open face on thick sliced panini bread. This was delicious. The bread was very soft. The tomatoes, eggs and cheese were a perfect combo. I stole a few bites from him. I had Italian Hot Dog Hero, which has Jersey style two half pound dogs, blistered and split with sautéed peppers-n-onions, chopped fried potato wedges, served on a hero. It tasted pretty good . The peppers and onions were pretty good and the bread was fresh and crispy, as well. There's a coffee bar where you make your own coffee. Cream and milk is in the fridge. The bread here is very fresh. Hubs ended up buying one. Owner is very friendly and told us that we were welcome to sample any bread that they have. I tried so very hard to like this place. The decor is cute, the staff were very friendly. The cafe was extremely clean. If I was reviewing those things the cafe would get 10 stars - however, I'm rating food and this was one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had - and when you are a breakfast cafe you had better get it right! They didn't come close to getting it right - not by a long shot. I ordered orange juice, they were out of it. The coffee was hot but that's truly the only nice thing I can say about it. My scrambled eggs were overcooked by at least 5 minutes - they were inedible and not eaten. The bacon had great flavor but parts were cooked nicely while other parts were either raw or burnt. The sourdough toast was not toasted - just barely warmed up and doughy. I asked where my home fries were and were told they were also sold out. For a breakfast place to be sold out of two mainstay staples, serve coffee that only qualifies because of its temperature and to serve eggs that my cat wouldn't even consider eating is just very sad and pathetic. I might have given this place a second try but by the look of my eggs and the eggs at the tables near by I assume that they feel this is the way eggs should be cooked and served so a second trip would be just wasting another twenty dollar bill. Take the extra 4 minute ride and go to the Freehold Grill on Rt 33 - they know what they are doing!! read more

Fresh made rolls and bread are the specialty, but what makes Krust Cafe so special is what's between the bread. Newly opened on route 9 south in Freehold, Krust Cafe occupies the former Romeo's Express location close to the intersection with Elton-Adelphia Road. The place is small but the vibe is big. There are tables for dining in and a small coffee bar. The decor is a clean Jersey Shore look. There is a friendly intimacy that encourages interaction with others - if you want. Each table has a cool old-time wooden game to keep you occupied. There is a good selection of unique hot sauces on each table so you won't lack for seasoning. I had the triple decker BLT. It was generously stuffed with the right amount of mayonnaise. As a bacon aficionado I can say the bacon was thick, tasty, and cooked to perfection. The "hook-up" side salad was a treat - orzo, cucumber and pepper bits in a light dressing was a delight. My wife had the butternut squash apple soup in a bread bowl. The soup was delicious. The combination of flavors was hearty and just right on a cold day. Once the soup was gone she enjoyed the warm bread bowl. The menu of breakfast sandwiches is a culinary delight, with many combinations of egg, bacon, pork roll and cheese. Lunch sandwiches hold much promise also, with fresh takes on steak and cheese and Italian hot dogs. More than one visit will be required to try them all. The staff is friendly and helpful. I had breakfast and lunch, two days, had I found it the first day it would've been 4 meals instead of 3. I had the "when in NJ" recomended Pork Roll for Breakfast and that thing was huge. The two lunches I had were the Steak and Egg Sammi and the Cluck Norris (grilled chicken) Sammi. Everything I got there was delicious. The bread was fresh, from NYC and the sandwiches were large enough to be considered two meals. There's quite a variety on the menu, including so low to no carb options, which is great for a place called Krust. We decided to keep it simple. I ordered pork roll, egg and cheese, and my wife got a cheesesteak. The PREC was overloaded with PR! My wife's chresesteak came on a long ciabatta and she said it was phenomenal. They have a variety of breads for sale as well. We left with a sourdough patella and a chocolate chip Irish soda bread. If you can, run, don't walk, to Krust. LOVE this place!!! Stumbled into it because my friends and I were planning to meet somewhere else for a Sunday brunch and the line at the other place was an hour long. We found Krust and I'm so glad we did! Food was delicious, service was attentive without being intrusive, and the folks working there were really invested in the quality of the food. The vibe almost felt like I was at my neighbor's house--totally comfortable and welcomed the minute we walked in. We got the Avo-eggy toast, the Jam, and the French toast platter (might have been a daily special). Each dish was excellent, and the breads were all freshly baked. There was a sample table with chocolate bread (delicious) and zeppole filled with banana/peanut butter--totally addictive!!! On our way out, the owner (?) gave each of us a loaf of bread fresh out of the oven--still warm--as a thanks for being new customers. We will definitely be coming back.
