His physician called in a prescription yesterday for what appears to be conjunctivitis (pink eye), and he has been waiting for treatment. I arrived at the pharmacy counter at approximately 1:28 PM. The pharmacy employee greeted me, pulled up my father's information, and discussed the prescription with me. After already beginning the transaction, she suddenly informed me that it was now 1:30 PM and the pharmacy was closing for lunch. Without offering any assistance, empathy, or attempt to complete the transaction, a metal security gate was lowered and I was told to return in 30 minutes. What bothered me was not that the staff took a lunch break. Everyone deserves a lunch break. What bothered me was the complete lack of compassion and customer service. The employee had already accessed the prescription and was actively assisting me. Knowing the medication was for an elderly patient in a skilled nursing facility who had already been waiting since the previous day, a little common sense and courtesy would have gone a long way. Healthcare is ultimately about people. In this case, I felt like a clock mattered more than a patient. Based on this experience, I can understand why this location has struggled with customer satisfaction ratings. I sincerely hope management takes a closer look at how patients and caregivers are being treated.

It would be two if it wasn't for the exceptional pricing of gas. First off, if you get gas here at any 'normal' hour, let alone peak hours, there's always a line to get in. This line is enhanced since there are only TWO pumps there. That's a maximum of four cars total that can be pumping at one time, and heaven forbid if you turn in and your gas cap is on the wrong side of the pumps. There's hardly any room to back out and make a U-Turn. Also, pending on how full their tanks are the pumps can pump fairly slow (there has been signs of improvement though). The area can be a bit spotty as it borders nice vs not so nice neighborhoods. I've seen people with nice cars pull up to add gas, then card that are beat up show up, and the nice cars leave w/o even filling up. I haven't experienced anything bad here, I think some people get a bit too paranoid. The convenient store is loaded with snacks and such and some automotive fluids as well for emergency. There's also a carry-out Pizza Hut there that shares the same lot too.

After parking in the lot across the street, we arrived shortly before 5:25 PM to an almost empty store. The inside and outside of the venue both appeared to be clean and tidy. Mom made her purchases right away. I followed by redeeming the winnings for a lottery ticket that I had. This is when the cashier realized that he inadvertently ordered one too many lottos or lottery tickets for Mom than what she paid for. When Mom paid the difference, she commented that it was a good thing that we were still at the shoppe, so that she could pay her outstanding balance. The store clerk, a young Sikh with short, curly [gorgeous] hair, replied to her that it would not have been a problem because he would have paid the amount, himself, if we were nowhere to be found. Although it was a de minimis amount, we were impressed by his qualities of friendliness, humbleness, and high integrity. I especially enjoyed our short chat about the reason why he cuts his hair despite being a Sikh. We were in and out within minutes, but the interaction with the young guy behind the counter was so pleasantly memorable and worthy of mentioning. Service like that definitely deserves five-star ratings! We need more good kids like him in this world!
