My experience at this Walgreens was incredibly disappointing. My 84-year-old father is currently in a skilled nursing facility recovering from serious health issues. His physician called in a prescription yesterday for what appears to be conjunctivitis (pink eye), and he has been waiting for treatment. I arrived at the pharmacy counter at approximately 1:28 PM. The pharmacy employee greeted me, pulled up my father's information, and discussed the prescription with me. After already beginning the transaction, she suddenly informed me that it was now 1:30 PM and the pharmacy was closing for lunch. Without offering any assistance, empathy, or attempt to complete the transaction, a metal security gate was lowered and I was told to return in 30 minutes. What bothered me was not that the staff took a lunch break. Everyone deserves a lunch break. What bothered me was the complete lack of compassion and customer service. The employee had already accessed the prescription and was actively assisting me. Knowing the medication was for an elderly patient in a skilled nursing facility who had already been waiting since the previous day, a little common sense and courtesy would have gone a long way. Healthcare is ultimately about people. In this case, I felt like a clock mattered more than a patient. Based on this experience, I can understand why this location has struggled with customer satisfaction ratings. I sincerely hope management takes a closer look at how patients and caregivers are being treated. read more

Last time I came here, I was in a hurry and nobody was helping me or any costumers. They had form a line. I see this younger lady who works here. She was very oblivious I could tell. I had to literally put the stuff away and get my son from school. I past that lady and told her. You got a lot of costumers been waiting in line for a very long time. I came back here since my mom had allergies. The lady Rita. She seems very nice and aware of what's going on. I mentioned to her. She been helpful not like the 1st time I was here before. The worst experience today (I've been using them for 10 yrs but the rudeness!). My doctor sent them a new prescription for me, after 5 days (since I heard nothing), I checked on the status. Pharmacist (or whoever that was who answered the phone) said she never filled it b/c she couldn't understand the doctor's instructions. And I said, someone should have told me! Their pharmacy department is utterly incompetent. After having my physician fight to get prescriptions filled by them, I finally get a notification that it's ready for pick up. Mind you, this is an emergency fill that ultimately took 2 days to fill. I'm there for pick up and it takes 30+ minutes for someone to assist in ringing me up for my prescription. We were told that our prescriptions were ready by phone, but when we got there they said that they would need to verify with the prescribing doctor as she is in SF. We recently moved from the city and explained that but they didn't care. Obviously it was almost impossible to reach the doctor right away, so it was a waste of time. They could have communicated better at least. We went there as we have been using Walgreens in the city but decided to use a different pharmacy. read more

Everything in pharmacy could improve--quality of personnel, speed of service, number of staff getting drugs ready, vaccine service. The indifference of the staff is off the charts! We had an apot for vaccines, but waited literally 30 minutes past the scheduled time and still had not been helped. I had to inquire several times at the window before someone finally talked to the nurse on staff, who still didn't show. We left after waiting several more minutes. Next day we went to get shots at Safeway, but the intake person said Walgreens had charged our insurance company for the shots, so we first had to call Walgreens to clear that up. Oi! read more

This review is about the PHARMACY only. The actual main store is well stocked and staffed with friendly people. But the pharmacy is SO, SO, SO poorly run that it is more convenient for me to drive out of my way to avoid it. It's been like this for 10+ years because I used to use them, but made the mistake of moving back after Rite Aid closed. The staff there do not seem happy and it is difficult to get anyone on the phone. Unless you show up before 10 a.m., you are probably looking at a 30-45 minute wait most days just to do a simple pickup. It seems that they consistently have to order medications because it is not in stock, so if you need something that day, be sure to have your doctor call before sending the Rx. The last straw for me was when their computer system went down this week. The pharmacy closed completely and text/phone communication was 1000% nonexistent. I even called corporate and a neighboring Walgreens who both said their hands were tied and they couldn't release/transfer my prescription without Menlo Park releasing it. My only option was to get a new Rx and pay full cash price since Menlo Park had already billed my insurance (although, of course, they had to order it as it wasn't in stock.) To add insult to injury, I showed up 4 days after they ordered the Rx and a full day after reopening, but the prescription was "still in progress" and to come back later so they could fill it. Computer issues aside, of the last 3 prescriptions that I have had filled there, none were easy and required a lot of work just to get the pharmacist to lay hands on the medication. Again, the store itself is great. I purchase a lot there, but will probably do my shopping at my new pharmacy. Shop the store, but avoid this pharmacy unless you enjoy wasting valuable time and energy. read more

Although I'm going to focus on the pharmacy, the whole store is sadly in need of updating. It's dirty and disorganized, and service is slow. But nothing is as slow as the pharmacy. Every time I go, the wait is worse. When I entered the store today, Sunday, there were three people ahead of me waiting for a pharmacy pickup. Not so bad, except the person being served was still there 20 minutes later. It didn't get better. I was picking up a generic, uncontrolled prescription that I'd refilled online days earlier (the online renewal is the easy part). I had no questions. Yet when it was finally my turn, the clerk disappeared for a good 10 minutes. No wonder the line barely moves. When I left, the line was twice as long as when I arrived. I came home and immediately transferred my prescription to an online vendor. All the Menlo Park Pharmaca prescriptions have been moved to that Walgreens. I feel bad for the former Pharmaca customers who have been accustomed to great service -- clean store, pleasant staff -- Walgreens is going to be quite a shock. I will never go back if I can help it. read more

I want to update my original review posted on 7/18/2024. Surprising I received a very nice email from Walgreen manager Mr. Sergio Colmenero at Menlo Park location today. He apologized for my bad experience. I then called Mr. Colmenero and thanked him for reaching out and asked if there is anything he could do to help me. I mentioned to him that not only I had taken two pictures at Menlo Park Walgreens, I also went to Walgreens located in San Carols on Saturday again and paid for the photo, and I still have not received my digital photo. Mr. Colmenero stated that the reason I may not have received my digital photo on Saturday could be related to Crowstrike outages. Then, Mr. Colemenero offered to retake another visa picture for me and would include a copy of the photo on USB (usually $6.99) for free in case I don't receive my digital copy of the photo by email. I drove back to the store, and Mr. Colmenero took another visa picture for me, I didn't need physical pictures just the digital one. Mr. Colmenero was very polite, friendly and extremely helpful! He made sure I was satisfied with the photo and double checked to make sure the picture met the foreign visa requirement. Mr. Colmenero's willingness to help out and also paid great attention to the details really have changed my impression of Walgreens. A big shoutout to Mr. Colmenero!!! read more

**This is a review specifically for the pharmacy** The pharmacy here is awful. No matter what time you arrive, you will have to wait a considerable amount of time (20+ minutes) before you get your medication. They are constantly understaffed, and those staff members on duty are incredibly slow. You end up waiting even if there isn't a line of people waiting in front of you, and there were numerous instances where the pharmacist basically skipped me and serviced others behind me (I literally had to complain and ask for service after a while). Definitely AVOID this place if you can. They make the simple task of picking up pre-ordered meds incredibly tedious, and operate at a snail's pace. read more

I have applied to this store for a basic cashier position a while ago and my application was rejected immediately. Despite having solid customer service experience and a decent work history. I applied again since I saw the position still opened weeks later and the same thing. It seems as either the management or lead felt their job was threatened. I do not know. I needed to get medication from the pharmacy. Unfortunately they were closed, I went to try to start my car, and it did not start.. I ended up having to leave it in the Walgreens parking lot. I called Walgreens and I got this really nice assistant Manager named " Johnathan".. he made sure to put a note on my Car, so it would not get Towed until I pick it up tomorrow.. his customer service skills were incredible.. Unfortunately this is the closest Walgreens to me so it's my pharmacy. But every time I pick up a prescription it always takes so so long and everything seems so inefficient. I usually end up having to have between 45 min - 1 hour just to pick up one prescription which is pretty ridiculous. I've also had times when they just couldn't find my insurance (which is ridiculous considering I have HMO under one of the biggest insurance companies), and after a frustrated hour of waiting around I've just left without my prescription. I came here for a single item purchase and a single item return, pretty simple you would think. Started out in line at one checkout station but got redirected to a second station. This employee said she could not help me and directed me to a manager located at a third checkout station. The manager then told me he could not help me because he was "too busy". There was nobody in line before or after me at the second or third checkout station. Two items as I said. He directed me to go back to the original checkout station. This person said I would need a manager, whereupon I told her that I had just spoken to her manager and he sent me to her. She reluctantly finished the transaction. Four checkout stations for two items. Nobody wants to work here. Everybody seemed to be in a sour mood and it was only 10AM. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This pharmacy and most of the staff are incompetent. Unbelievable wait times per customer. Yesterday I waited in line for 20 minutes with the line 20+ people long, and in those 20 minutes, not a single person in the line was served with two windows open. I left. I came back the next day to find a line forming, and the pharmacy on a "lunch break". 30 minutes past the posted opening time, they opened - by then there were....yes, 20+ people waiting in line with moods turning sour. The so called pharmacist slinked in trying to be unnoticed and actually had to knock on the door for the underlings to let him in. These people don't care. Maybe they are understaffed, who knows, but its been years of this. I'm done. Go to another pharmacy. Anyone here giving a good review either got lucky or is disengenuous. read more

This Walgreens serves its purpose as a neighborhood drug store. It is hugged between several stores in Menlo Park's downtown area, and has been there for many years. Like many places post pandemic, it still requires mask wearing but many people go into the store maskless. This isn't a big deal to me (who went in masked), but that was all that I could really say about it. read more

Great location (5 stars) and good selection of stuff (4 stars). However, TAKE AWAY 100 stars for locking condoms, pregnancy tests, lube, and other sexual necessities. Behind plexiglass! As a middle aged, married woman, I resent having to "ask permission" to get access to the items necessary for my sex life. I'm nearing 50, so I don't want a baby, but I do want intimacy with my husband. The prices were also Very Expensive. Will not shop here again....if this policy is consistent across all Walgreen's, then I will shop elsewhere. You say, "theft". Yeah, yeah, whatever. If anything ought to be FREE (or stolen), it's birth control/sexual health stuff. In other countries or places, it's 1) free, 2) available in vending machines in restrooms, 3) not locked away so you have to ask to get it, 4) if not free, then affordably priced. Insulting!! Maybe the San Mateo Public Libraries will start offering these items along with the free menstrual supplies? Never again, Walgreen's! read more

Their prescription information phone tree is a joke. The "status" on the phone is the same as online, and if that is just stuck at something like "pending," you need to call in to find out what the hold up is. So after a ridiculously long diatribe of useless information, you finally get to ask to speak to a pharmacist (assuming the AI they use can actually understand what you say). There is no way to say you want something other than medical advice. Then you get into hold queue. The only info they give you about the wait time is "more than three callers." What? I count count above three to get a better idea of how long? There is NO option to leave a call back number so you can on with whatever else you may need to do. Then 2 hours later, finally got the ring through to the pharmacy, and "ding ding ding", I'm cut. Get to start again. This time on 1 hour finally got through. THey said, oh, we will fill it right now, you can pick up in 1/2 hour. That was good, but NO explanation of WHY the prescription, that I need tomorrow pre-surgery, was in purgatory in the first place. Insufficient staff, phone tree system designed by demented possums, no alternative way to get through, and online status that is pretty much useless unless your prescription is fill right away, then it shows "ready for pickup." Unless you get that status, be prepared for in interminable wait. One star only because the clerk who I finally got to after more than three hours he was able to resolve the issue. Clearly, there was no actual problem, they just lost the prescription. read more

I came to the store today, Friday, around 3:23 and waited 30 minutes for the pharmacy line. Sofie was at the front of the counter when I finally got to the front of the line at 3:50. She told me there was nothing to pick up. I told her I received a call from Walgreens pharmacy that my prescription was ready. I told her this same thing happened last month, and I again had to wait to hear that the prescriptions were not prepared. She told me it was not her fault and gave me an attitude. I asked her not to treat me this way, and she said I gave her the attitude. I asked for the store manager, and she said he was not there. I asked what her name was, she didn't respond. Then I took out my phone and took a picture of her name tag. She immediately asked me to delete the image and refused to help me further with my medication. I have never been treated this way as a customer, and I will file an official complaint to Walgreens. I have been going to this pharmacy for many years, and I am shocked that this is the type of customer service I was given. Please please train your pharmacy support staff to be respectful to customers. Something is broken with the call system if it is not being connected to your computer system. Sending an automatic phone call to notify your customer that a prescription is ready and having the customer wait 30 minutes to find out the prescription was never filled is beyond frustrating. read more

This is consistently the worst part of my month -- I hate the pharmacy here and need to get my act together and switch my prescriptions to CVS. There is always a long line, not just due to some huge MP population needing medicine but due in part to clearly inadequate staffing. I also detest having to wait in line for over the counter meds that they keep behind the counter, like my son's liquid iron supplement. Ugh. The only thing that makes this bearable is Starbucks next door -- I always make sure to place a mobile order while in line for pick up after the horrible wait. read more

Never have I been so insulted by this Allen. He is offensive, rude, and aggressive. Where the hell did he come from? Should I ever see him again, in what I consider my corner store, I will definitely make it known he is not welcome! Justin at the register and Nika in cosmetics are angels and I adore them! I made an appointment to get my RSV vaccination at the Walgreens on Santa Cruz Avenue in Menlo Park. I had to wait quite awhile, and that was annoying, but that is not why I'm writing this review. When the pharmacist came in to give me the shot, his white coat, which I guess is meant to make him look like a professional medical person, was absolutely filthy! I asked him about it and he said that's what he was given by the store. I asked if he'd tried to wash it and he said yes (not sure I believe this, but maybe). I got the shot anyway as he wore gloves and the needle wasn't near his coat, but come on Walgreen's. If you want to be seen as a credible medical provider, you need to up your game and at least adhere to some basic cleanliness protocols. I will not be going back for any more vaccinations. read more

The pharmacy is the most inefficient of all stores. They send you a reminder to pick up your Rx and when you get to the store you find out your medicines not ready. The line is always long no matter what day or time you arrive. Pharmacy staff is one person who looks up and gives your Rx after a very long wait. This store does not belong in Menlo Park due to its lack of customer service and efficiencies. I hate coming here every month and dealing with long lines, unfriendly staff and watching customers get more angry by the minute. read more

This Walgreens is unique and is on a very happening street. Long lines at the pharmacy, a store that looks very dated and small parking spaces are the highlights. I park in the back, walk in and am greeted by a bunch of people in line at the pharmacy. People in that line look really irritated. This is, without a doubt, the weak point of this store. Normally Walgreens are located on a busy intersection with lots of parking around the perimeter. Not here - not that it is bad to be in a happening part of town - just different that what I would expect. The store is very dated. Not that I personally care so much - again I just find it interesting. A bunch of mirrors hang above the walls that look like from a time in history that predates video cameras for catching shoplifters. Its such a nice part of town I doubt that is an issue here anyway? I grab a bandage for my leg, some snacks and am on my way happy no to be in that pharmacy line. read more
