    Big Gulp is back!!!
    Lou C.

I was really curious about 7-Eleven coming back to Houston. So, I searched online and found an article http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Year-after-7-Eleven-announced-return-to-Houston-5169302.php. Then, I followed GPS to this place. The store sign says TETCO. Since 7-Eleven bought TETCO, I assumed it as a 7-Eleven. Yeah, it sure is. According to the store clerk, they are waiting for the new 7-Eleven sign for the building. It didn't take very long to look around a small store. Everything was already labeled as 7-Eleven. But the store didn't look very organized. Shipping boxes and janitorial equipment were laying everywhere. Not the kind of 7-Eleven as I was used to. My reason for being here was to fulfill my craves for the 7-Eleven Big Bite (hotdog) and the Big Gulp (soda). But the hotdogs were just started to grill (at noon) and I didn't want to wait. As for the 7-Eleven Big Gulp, I was disappointed the soda tasted weak and not fresh.

I prefer the frozen drinks over the iced ones because I feel like you get more volume (versus too much ice in the iced drinks) and yea they are $1.40 more. I like that they also have new limited time flavors. 4 stars since I wish the drinks were a bit cheaper. $7.90 for a frozen 24oz medium drink ($6.50 for iced). I will sometimes try to use the "buy any 16oz drink, get a second 1/2 off" coupon on the back of HEB receipts. The workers are all super nice and helpful. Don't forget to download the app or provide them with your phone # for points and rewards. Plenty of parking but drive-thru is also fast and convenient.

The variety is impressive, from savory breads to delicate desserts, and everything tastes fresh rather than overly sweet or heavy. Their sea salt coffee and specialty drinks are balanced and smooth, and the self-serve bakery layout makes it easy to browse without feeling rushed. I also appreciate how efficiently they package everything, especially when ordering multiple items. If you're looking for high-quality pastries and drinks that feel a step above typical chain bakeries, 85°C delivers every time.

I haven't redeemed any rewards in several months because I've been overseas, so I wasn't sure whether I simply scanned the code or if there was another step involved. Instead of explaining the process, he repeatedly pointed at the screen and said, it's right here. When I asked for clarification, he continued to respond the same way without actually explaining what I needed to do. His tone and mannerisms made me feel as though I was being treated like an inconvenience for asking a simple question. Not every customer is familiar with the app, and some may be using rewards for the first time. A little patience and clearer communication would have gone a long way. The experience was made more frustrating by the long wait beforehand. There were only two cashiers working and the customer ahead of me spent several minutes at the register asking questions. Another cashier was also helping a customer who needed additional assistance. While I understand that questions happen and employees do their best, waiting a considerable amount of time only to receive dismissive customer service was disappointing. Good customer service isn't just about completing a transaction--it's about helping customers understand the process and making them feel welcome. Unfortunately, that was not my experience during this visit.

The atmosphere itself is warm and inviting, even though it was very cold inside, which made it a bit uncomfortable to focus for long periods. I tried a few cold drinks the iced latte and an iced shaken espresso but unfortunately they didn't quite hit the mark. The iced latte didn't have the flavor I asked for, and the iced shaken espresso wasn't very good either. I ended up wishing I had ordered a hot coffee instead, which I'll definitely try next time. On a positive note, the Dubai strawberries were absolutely delicious and a standout item. Overall, it's a cozy spot with great ambiance, but the cold drinks and temperature could use some improvement.
