I have come to expect consistent quality at this franchise. We have visited several times over the last several years particularly at the San Antonio location. We visited this cafe on a Sunday evening and the place was expectedly low inventory which was fine as it was the end of the day. Service was fine but the tables and floors in the eating area were dirty. However the reason for the one star review is due to the quality of the 2 cookies and cream mousse cups, we ordered. When we got home, and took the first bit, my brother and I quickly realized both of the mousse cups were sour and tart, including the whipped cream!!! I have never had this happen before and it was extremely disappointing and honestly disgusting. Looking closely, the texture was grainy and chunky, which confirmed my suspicion they were curdled. We purchased about six items for take out. Everything was good. We got one item that was a big fluffy bread filled with cream and that was the BEST one. The prices are unbelievably affordable and we will definitely stop by again. I'll make sure to take more pictures next time and get the name of our favorite cashing out was prompt. Shortly after, I overheard her yelling loudly at an employee, saying things like "if I don't tell you to do it why are you doing." To be completely honest, this kind of behavior is unacceptable especially from a GM. If you can't show respect to customers or employees, you shouldn't be in a leadership position at a bakery. Indian register lady working opening shift on June 27, 2026 was extremely incompetent, lazy, and should not be working in the customer service industry. I ordered a single drink mobile order 15 minutes before arrival (9:30) to ensure it was ready before I had to go to work. On arrival (9:50), she says it was currently being made when I can clearly see it on the back counter along with 4 other drinks. She didn't bother checking or asking, she just said wait over there while being dismissive. 15 minutes go by, she and no other worker checks on me or the other mobile order wait-line, and I had to ask a trainee where my drink is at. Register lady budges in and says, "the lady is making the drink right now" when it's been sitting there for over 20 minutes, I've never had this drink before but I can tell which one it was. The trainee asks the drink-making lady shortly after, who looks for it and finally grabs it from the counter and gives me it, when it's all melted and separated. I have never been this annoyed to download the Yelp App to post a review on a situation, so this is a first and I hope to never have an experience with this register person again. read more

This is the perfect amount of sweet for me. One of the cashiers informed me that a100% sugar is pretty darn sweet. FRESH BREAD! The ever so popular 85 degree bakery has exploded all around the Houston (and suburbs!), and thank goodness they have. Pre-Covid, they would yell "fresh bread" every time someone came out with a fresh tray of bread. Now, each bread is pre-packaged (previously you used tongs to grab each one), which is definitely more convenient. I've never really had a bad bread here, but recently we tried the milk tea bread and the impossible BBQ bun - both were seriously delicious. The milk tea bread was my personal fav. The fluffiness of the bread, the chewiness of the boba (yes there is actually boba in this!) and the ever so slight sweetness to it made me want more, bite after bite. It was so good that I thought about going back all week. Their cakes are also worth trying and their milk bread is equivalent to a croissant and a brioche mixed together to create a fluffy, decadent loaf. My first time to 85c was when I visited Nasa. Fell instantly in love with the place. This is a Vietnamese ( or maybe Korean) bakery with some exotic stuff at reasonable prices. I went back to the NASA area just for try the bakery again a couple of times, first it was closed due to Covid and then it just remained closed. Not sure what happened to that branch... when I saw this bakery here in Sugarland it felt like a ' Eureka' moment. I was soo full with lunch but could not let it pass without a bite. And bite I did into number of their items. Got the Coffee cream brûlée, the strawberry mousse cake , the french garlic bread, white bread for toast and a Vietnamese coffee..... thats a lottt for someone who was just complaining a stomach too full to get a plain coffee at Starbucks just 5 min ago! The strawberry mousse was good, rich ofcourse with a huge cream layer in the centre but the coffee creme brûlée was dry and somewhat bitter too. The garlic jalapeno bread was really yummy except that I am allergic to that cheese so couldn't have much of it. Coffee was good, I found that too bitter as well but still good, Vietnamese coffee is on the bitter stronger side by nature. The dine- in is currently closed though, you can only take away. If you're tiny up top, that's not 85C, that's more like 35A. And if you're looking for action with an elderly male, you need some 85D. But if you want perfect custard tarts, rather than just checking out a couple of tarts (Barbi and I) eating tarts on Yelp, then this is your place! We've been back a few times, and it's better than we originally thought. Service still not great, and still a 2 or 3 star on a bad day, but when the custard tarts are hot and when the salted coffees are well-made, it can really get the job done. My previous review mused, that I've been to about a dozen of these things all over the country and my favorite one in Houston is still the one in Chinatown Houston - although the nicest one overall by far is the one in Chinatown Dallas in Richardson to be exact - which is by far the best I've ever been to. There's a really rude employee here who was snarky about not being willing to make the off-menu grapefruit black tea for us the way that I want. Not very friendly at all. The other employees were okay but giving us funny looks probably because of how Bae was dressed. The products were excellent as always but the custard tarts were not piping-hot because the place is not as busy as the Chinatown location where they are often scalding hot the way I love them. Low down on the drinks: - Lemon Black Tea is heaven. Get it with tapioca. Subtle and not too sweet. Tastes homemade. Perfect. - King Grapefruit is a huge grapefruit in a huge cup with delicious black tea (if they go off menu for you, but they won't), or mediocre green tea, excellent with boba. - Sea Salt drinks are heaven. All these are iced, not hot. The Coffee, Caramel Coffee, and Black Tea are all addictive and divine with Sea Salt and Boba, but the Caramel Coffee is the winner and is the must try drink at 85. Conclusion: Order the Caramel Sea Salt Iced Coffee. If you love lemon or grapefruit, order those with black tea. And as for the pastries: - The Egg Tart is pure heaven. When it's piping hot, it's the greasiest and one of the tastiest on the whole planet. We frequent this location after our weekly Costco trip. I always try a pastry, but my go to is always the egg tart. My husband usually gets a latte or coffee. The coffee must have something addictive, because it's so good. I don't venture to other drinks too often because it could be a hit or miss...like their hot chocolate. I believe the package hot chocolates from the supermarket are better than theirs. All their pastries have been pretty good in terms of quality and variety.
