A hidden place but not a hidden gem. I was disappointed in our dinner here. A near empty restaurant, slow service, and okay food came with a hefty price tag. The drinks menu is fun and the majority of the items seem tasty. The White Sangria was sweet and tasty though the flavor was not as complex as some. The Orange Line with earl gray tea had a nice smokey undertone and wasn't too sweet to have with dinner. For appetizers we got the Chicken Wings and Chop Chop salad. Both were underwhelming. My he wings reminded me of my father's BBQ off the grill. This was a pleasant thought except that my dad used Kraft BBQ sauce right out of the bottle. The wings were pretty drenched too, and no extra napkins were provided (plus it's quite a hike to the restrooms). The salad was topped with a few slices of sad cold chicken. We didn't have the will or the time to finish either as the mains were brought out while we were still eating. I had the Crab Cake main course which was tasty but HEAVY. The flavors were nice, but I didn't have any hopes of finishing it. The potato at gratin on which it sat was possibly my favorite part of the dish. Our server was very nice, police, and responsive, but the service was slow in parts and rushed in others. I did appreciate his efforts to ask the kitchen when we did have questions and his honesty when answering that none of the desserts are made in house except for the shooters. We left full nonetheless. I appreciated the effort but the food was pricey and not terribly remarkable. I can't recommend either starter and would probably order a different main as well. This place is ok. I was expecting a little more because of the current 4-star rating. Service was friendly, but a tiny bit slow because they were understaffed. Certainly not the fault of our server. He appeared to be sharing the bar and entire dining area with only one other server. They were running around the entire time. No sign of another employee (aside from deductively assuming at least one in the kitchen. The atmosphere was kind of weird. It is inside a Marriot, and had no "703 Kitchen" branding save for a scrawled specials menu on a chalkboard hanging above the bar. We thought it was just the hotel lounge. The menu was pretty solid. A lot of good options but not too large. My favorite item was the baked goat cheese. It could have used a little more bread, and a little more garlic, but was above average. We also got the lobster roll and the burger. They both were nothing special. The lobster roll was a little better, and the bread they used was buttery and delicious. The burger was pretty bland. It tasted like the beef hadn't been seasoned or marinated at all. I could have made the same thing on my back porch, with more flavor. Overall, decent food, but the place lacks character. In this area, your money is better spent elsewhere. Better options nearby are Texas De Brazil and Coastal Flats. read more

I went here for happy hour (4pm-6pm M-F) with a friend and had the crab & artichoke dip, chicken wings, and a couple of drinks. We ended up sitting at the bar - ambience was really nice - and the wait staff was friendly without being overbearing. Crab & Artichoke dip: really good! they use old bay seasoning on their bread which makes it stand out from the other restaurants in the area. 5/5 Wings: they were pretty good. I think they were BBQ or something, with thicker consistency tomatoey-bbqeuy sauce on the outside of the chicken and it comes with bleu cheese to dip. Bleu cheese was good as well (tasted house-made) 3.5/5 The restaurant has a really nice upscale feel to it while not overly expensive. I will definitely visit this location again. I went here last night and was surprised how nice it was for being in a Marriott hotel. I ordered the clam and corn chowder which was a significant step up from what you'd get in a diner. We followed that up with a margarita flat bread that was the worst item we bought - not that flavorful but I did like the half baby tomatoes served as toppings. We also ordered the mac and cheese with spare ribs as a topping. The Mac and cheese was good but spare ribs tasted more like pulled BBQ. We both ordered burgers for our main entrees. They were well cooked and had fresh toppings and were the highlight of the meal. The ambiance was great - there was a nice fire place and the area was nicely decorated. The service was also great - our server refilled my water at least 5 times (I had just come from a hockey game) and was very nice and attentive. We just went here on a Friday night and it wasn't quite what I expected. First of all, it feels like you're sitting in the hotel lobby eating and it's not quite a separate establishment like a lot of other hotel restaurants. It was also pretty empty so the ambiance wasn't great. We got a few different things that were pretty good - the burger, wings, cobia and brussel sprouts (even though they were a bit too charred for my taste). The grilled oysters, however, were terrible. They did not taste fresh and came out pretty cold. When we mentioned this to two different servers, we didn't get much of a response other than to say they were grilled and that's why they tasted the way they did...hmm. Went here for dinner tonight to celebrate my brother's birthday and thoroughly pleased with both the service and quality of food. My dad had mentioned the restaurant a couple of times after coming here with my mom for drinks and appetizers, so we decided to give the place a try for a special day! My family ordered a few "noshes," or appetizers, which included PEI mussels, Mac n cheese with crab, and truffle tots. All three were equally tasty and flavorful, and I was more impressed with the appetizers than I was with the dinner entrees! The restaurant seems like a more fitting place for sharing a few appetizers with friends and grabbing some drinks versus sitting down for a formal dinner. The truffle tots had black truffle oil infused into the crisp edges, while the Mac n cheese was creamy and consisted of a fair amount of blue crab chunks. The mussels were cooked in a garlic lemon sauce that was absolutely perfect when paired with the slices of bread that came on top of the dish. In terms of our entrees, I ordered the crab rolls (which came with fries), my brother ordered the honey fried chicken, and my dad got the steak with mashed potatoes and vegetables. My brother barely touched his chicken, especially because of how sweet it was - we really didn't think the name actually lived up to its meaning. The chicken came with sides like collards, picked cabbage, and corn cakes - all three were fairly flavorless, but a nice touch to the overall plate. The steak was thoroughly cooked, but the roasted vegetables that came with it were what made the dish even better. A blend of brussel sprouts, carrots, potatoes, and zucchini made the perfect vegetable mix, especially with how well they were cooked with the seasoning. I loved my crab rolls, but felt like there could've been more flavor to the bread and crab mix itself; not entirely sure as to what was missing, but my tastebuds were calling for a little more. Overall, extremely surprised at how hidden and fantastic the restaurant is! Don't be deceived by the fact that it's in a hotel - the food is moderately priced and offers a great range of options. The only caveat to the night was when the waiter accidentally dropped a glass of water on our table, which eventually spilled over to my brother and left glass shards flying around everywhere. Chef Peter McCall has brought his passion for Southern cooking to Northern Virginia. What a great spot this restaurant are bar are in. Right off the highway and tucked into the Fairfax Marriott, right next to Fair Oaks Mall. If you love Southern food you must visit 703 Bar and Kitchen. Each dish is derived from secret family recipes, like Etta Belle's Cornbread (the chef's great grandmother's) made right in a cast iron pan. So many of the ingredients on the menu are locally sourced. Each dish looked stunning and tasted delicious. Some of our favorite dishes included: Chef Peter's Buttermilk Biscuits: These biscuits were light as air and each bite melted in your mouth. The fresh salted butter and apple butter served on the side were delightful. These biscuits are being served instead of traditional dinner rolls. Mom's Pimento Cheese: This unique and savory appetizer was an unexpected delight. Each slice of rich Texas Toast was topped with the smoothest and softest fresh pimento cheese. The toast was then delicately topped with thinly sliced bread and butter pickles (made in house). This appetizer was perfectly unique and left us wanting more. We actually dreamed about this appetizer recently, the flavors were so memorable! Buttermilk Fried Chicken: The chickens used in the fried chicken are locally grown at Yohanan Farm in Purcellville. The pasture-raised birds are brined and fried to perfection by Chef McCall. We were surprised to see honeycomb served on the side, from the Apex Bee Company. The honey and the chicken worked perfectly together! This entree is pure comfort food at its finest. 703 Chocolate Pie and Lemon Bars: You need to leave room for dessert. The 703 chocolate pie and the lemon bars were both excellent desserts. I live close by and found this place on Yelp. My friend's and I liked it! We came in the middle of the day (Monday) and had the whole place to ourselves! The corn and crab chowder was delicious and perfect for the chilly day! I also enjoyed the Mussels which were in a very garlicky IPA beer broth. The Executive Chef (Naim Soued) set-out a menu that rivaled any 5 Star Mitchlen Restaurant! Tucked-away in the Marriott Hotel - it's a gem!! The menu featured 'Small Plates' and delicious desserts. It offered a selection of any 3 small plates on the menu entrees and desserts. There was no restriction if you wanted all 3 selections to be entrees, desserts or a combination. Since there were so many amazing selections to choose from (consisting of a protein & carb); we decided to order 3 entrees apiece!! Definitely - NOT Small Plates!! Every plate was a masterpiece - totally exquisite!! Every plate was exceptionally succulent and flavorsome!! All for $35.00!! Chef Soued introduced himself and welcomed the guests to Restaurant Week. Wow! I can't say enough how fantastic this place is! We went the Friday night after Valentine's Day when our original plans fell through. We called multiple restaurants and they all had a wait of an hour or longer! At 703 there was no wait and not very many people here but the food was incredible and the service was wonderful! The atmosphere is a little odd since it's in a hotel and very open so we were sitting more in the atrium of the hotel than in a restaurant but it was still great as we were sitting right in front of the fire place which made for great ambiance. The hostess even moved a table and chairs so we could sit there! We did the Valentine's special menu and were able to try 6 items on the menu between the two of us. Each thing we ate was made from scratch and incredible! The server we had (I wish I had gotten his name) was amazing and right on top of everything. The food was reasonably priced for what you got and I couldn't have been happier with our last minute decision! Recently went here because the fried chicken looked appealing. I ordered the Mac and cheese and fried chicken. Please take the peas out of the Mac and cheese and use cheese with more flavor, then it'll be a hit! Watery Mac n cheese is never good. As for the fried chicken you must serve one breast with it. I had two legs and a wing which resulted in about 5 bites of food. To top it off it didn't taste good. Switch your batter to buttermilk. Lastly, the desert was really bad. They had bread pudding and chocolate silk pie that tasted too much like cream cheese. Add key lime pie and apple pie to the menu for more profit! Beautifully crafted and delectable meals. And my girlfriend I came here for an afternoon date. The ambience and mood was a trendy chic, not quite upscale, but not quite casual. Jeans and a nice shirt or polo would be fine, but this is in a hotel so you can find yourself amongst relaxed guests. Anyway, the food and drinks were to die for. Cedar plank salmon was perfectly portioned and excellently priced, as was the sangria! At $8 a glass, it's understandable to reserve a room at the inn after a few. Went to 703 for food and drinks. Was pleasantly surprised that at 7pm on a Saturday it was pretty vacant so there were plenty of places to sit. By the time we left around 10 it was quite packed. The drinks were good but overall the food did not win me over. Note: There's a separate bar menu which has more choices for appetizers. I got the tater totes and pork belly from the bar menu; both were OK. Also got the margarita flatbread which was way too heavy on the sauce. The only food I really enjoyed was the bread and butter provided with our meal. All things considered, I would come back for the drinks and environment but would eat elsewhere. read more

On one of the biggest dinner nights of the year, we were scrambling to find a place that would satisfy both our appetite and our palette. This place is literally a hidden gem. It is located inside the hotel and off to the left of the lobby. I have to admit that I was extremely skeptical of the place. However, the service was really attentive and enthusiastic about everything on the menu. I liked the fact that parents can enjoy a nice private dinner, while their kids hang out on the couch and eat kid-approved snacks a few feet away. We got: - BBQ chicken pizza - slightly cold, but I enjoyed it! - BF: pan roasted bone-in chicken breast - he was definitely a fan. They were also able to get this carnivore to enjoy FAVA BEANS! Second visit was last night. The Shrimp & Grits were incredible- fluffy grits with a kicky tomato based gravy and shrimp perfectly done. Hubs' bison meatloaf was a bit overcooked/dry but still very good. The craft cocktail list seems shorter than before but the Gin Rickey was delish and certainly demonstrates their commitment to the concept. 703 is head and shoulders above what you'd expect from a hotel lobby restaurant. Definitely give it a try! The manager and chef clearly mean what they say on the website about sourcing local foods and showcasing them in unique treats. Stayed at the Marriott for a couple nights and dined here several times. Everything was good but my favorite is the salmon and arugula salad. It is absolutely delicious. Fish is crisp on the outside, moist on the inside, perfectly cooked! The dressing on the salad is nice and light, not overwhelming. And the staff deserve way more than 5 stars. If you're looking for a restaurant with a hint of customer service, this won't be the place. I'll start with the two positive reasons that earned them 2 stars. Convenience. Getting a reservation was quick and easy. Considering it was a last minute decision to eat out, I was pleasantly surprised that they were able to accommodate us. Ambiance. The restaurant was nicely decorated and positioned away from the bar. Convenient for a family with small children who don't want to explain bar conversations to them or who wants to enjoy their meal without "the game" blaring in the background. Now the not so good. We had to return our sodas because there was a bug in one of our glasses and what appeared to be cork residue in another. Meals took extremely long to come out, considering there were all of zero point zero other diners. When it did, it was wrong. My entree and my husband's dish were both under cooked. Our waitress was very argumentative and rude from the moment we asked to have the drinks replaced. She threw our straws on the table after replacing our drinks, didn't bring us silverware until after the meals arrived (we had to ask) and made it seem as if serving us was an inconvenience. We very politely pointed out the issues and believe had we been greeted with an apology and willingness to make it right, we probably wouldn't have taken the time to compose this review. However, as mentioned the wait staff was argumentative and never once apologized, which was totally unacceptable. We were looking for a venue to conduct a business conference but will scout other locations based on the poor service we experienced. read more

I chose this restaurant because of the good reviews and had a $25 gift certificate. I took my mom for her birthday and had looked through pictures beforehand. The menu has changed, so if you see old photos on Yelp, some items have changed. Our server was very nice and food was pretty good, but unlikely that I will return. I think if you are a guest at the hotel and you don't want to travel to get food, then this restaurant has good options and will satisfy. It was fairly priced considering the quality and presentation. We got the fried green tomatoes as a starter. My dad got the 703 burger, which both he and my mom loved. My mom got rigatoni, which she didn't really like. I got the hanger steak with the salsa verde sauce and mashed potatoes - my steak was cooked at a perfect medium. You have to order sides in addition to any of the steaks, but there are a good amount of side options to choose from. I'm really at a loss for understanding how this place is so highly rated. I went here with three girlfriends and we all agreed it was awful. We were looking for something new to try so figured we'd give it a shot. This place is actually inside the Marriott hotel. Each of us separately was confused by this, thinking there was maybe a separate entrance but there is not, you have to go inside the hotel to find it in what is essentially next to a lounge area. I'd imagine most of their guests must be hotel guests. Onto the food - they have 'small plates' which are not to be confused with tapas, they are essentially 2/3 the size of a regular portion and cost maybe a couple bucks less. Seems like an odd concept to me. I'm not really sure who told them that what people really want is to order 2/3 of a meal and then find something else on the menu to supplement that but I'd imagine it helps get people to spend more. I had the salmon which was pretty dry. It came on a bed of rice that was extremely dry and bland. And it was surrounded by cut up broccoli, half of which was so charred it was black. Not a little black, but completely black. Which brings me to my side of brussel sprouts which were described as "crispy." That wasn't an inaccurate description, it merely masks the fact that they were crispy because they were completely burnt. A friend also ordered them and deemed them inedible (and noted how she generally loves brussel sprouts). Hearing our displeasure, our server offered us a free dessert to share but even that we didn't finish. He was the only good part of the evening (and the only reason this place doesn't deserve one star). Definitely will not return. read more
