We are visiting the area from out of town. We lucked up on this gem of a restaurant. The dining area is in a sanctuary of a church. I thought this was very unique. We ordered our food to go and it was ready very quickly. The server who assisted us was very nice and helpful. We ordered a fried egg sandwich, 71 Smash burger, fried green tomatoes, and cheesecake. Everything was fresh and cooked well. We are planning to visit again before we leave.

Great burger and fries! We wanted to try the steak fries but couldn't justify the price.

We stopped by for lunch and had a great experience overall. Everything we ordered tasted fresh and satisfying. The restaurant was pretty quiet during lunch, which made it a nice, relaxed stop. Even though the area is currently under construction, the spot itself is clean and inviting. The service was a bit on the slower side, but since we weren't in a rush, it worked out fine.

This was my first time here. I met a friend for dinner-a much needed Mom's night out. We were seated right away and our server, Tara came right over to take our drink orders. I had the Bravazzi Peach (hard Italian soda) and my friend got the Janis cocktail. They were both so good! We skipped appetizers and ordered the Steak Frites and Chargrilled Portobello entrees. Delicious! We both enjoyed our dinners. We sat and talked for a while and Tara was so sweet. She checked in on us and was an excellent server. The space was relaxing and laid back. I loved all of the house plants. I will definitely return! This is a jewel in South Knoxville.

Enjoyed a visit for lunch after reading great reviews. The place did not disappoint. Cool idea of turning a church into a restaurant and other businesses. There are a good number of steps in order to get into the restaurant, not sure if they offer handicap accessible entrance. The service was good and food was fantastic! The vibe and interior decor was great. Plenty of available free parking and next to a park too. I will definitely be back for future visits.

Such a great vibe and beautiful restaurant. Inside is such an open and warm environment that offers a quality service. The food was tasty and we would be willing to go back for another visit.

My friends and I visited for a concert and were looking for a good brunch place. Boy, did we find one! Since it was a Sunday afternoon, pulling up to a full sized Baptist Church was a little disconcerting. It took us a few minutes to realize that it had been repurposed and was now a multifunctional space. Since it was right after opening, there was a little bit of a line, but it moved quickly, and the service was very friendly. Everyone was so cheerful and friendly that it made the wait go by quickly. Inside, it is very tastefully decorated to celebrate its past as a church but also embrace the nature trails and biking paths nearby. It was a perfect balance of the old and new. Oh man, now the food! Everything that we had was absolutely amazing. The appetizers, our main courses, and the very reasonably priced carafes of mimosas. Everything was piping hot, looked as delicious as it tasted, and had very generous portion sizes. This is a great place to stop for brunch if you are anywhere in the Knoxville area!

The dark, glamorous aesthetic is stunning--perfect for date night or for impressing out-of-town guests. I loved the gold accents, layered textures, and thoughtful lighting. Everything worked together beautifully. We chose to sit at the bar to watch the mixologists work their magic. They were incredibly helpful in guiding us toward drinks that matched our preferences. I absolutely loved my cocktail--even if I can't recall the name--because it delivered the spicy kick they promised. We also ordered several shareable plates, all of which were delicious. We tried the Carnitas Tamales (shredded pork, ancho mole, fresh corn, masa, cilantro, yuzu arbequina oil), the Vegetable Empanadas (house-made pastry, wilted kale, roasted sweet potato, Oaxaca and cotija cheese, black bean purée, and adobo & chile-lime aioli), and a salad. I'd happily order any of them again. I did find myself wishing for a bit more heat, but I've learned that's hard to come by in Tennessee. At least the staff gave us a heads-up that the spice level is toned down. I'm already looking forward to coming back and exploring more of the menu. The vibe is fantastic--and while they have a nice outdoor space, the interior is so eye-catching I'm not sure I'd want to sit anywhere else.

The service is friendly and the prices in line (if not cheaper) with other bars downtown ($11-12 per cocktail). We loved that people are allowed to bring in their own food (they have a few snacks you can order) and that dogs are welcome. In fact, word has it that the bar is named after the owners' dog, Monkey, so it makes sense that they pass along their pup love to our community. Note that huge (but very sweet) dogs may be freely roaming and were knocking into people carrying full drinks and begging strangers for food. Also, we were with a group across from the bar and I will say that it was absolutely deafening. We were next to each other and were yelling, "CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!?" They could use a few items to soak up some sound like cushions on the bench seating, some rugs, etc. It would also make the space a bit more homey and inviting.

But just about every thing to do with our dinner was low quality The Maitre d (or host mgr) has poor customer service skills. He is the wrong person to be in that position. Sometimes I would suggest to have him train at one of better dinner houses in Knoxville, but his attitude is such I'm not sure he would understand his deficiencies. Overall, he does not treat guests as if they are the lifeline for a restaurant. He made no effort to make us feel he was glad we came to The Kennedy and when we left he made no attempt to thank us or ask how our experience was. If he is not replaced the restaurant will steadily lose customers. The food quality was poor. The salmon on top of Brussel sprouts tasted as if someone in the kitchen poured molasses on top of the Brussel Spouts. Then after it was sent back with the request to re-do the dinner without the sweetener it came back (after a very long delay) with a huge plate of Brussel Sprouts that were completely dried out. It seemed like the people in the kitchen attempted to make up for the poor taste by giving a helping size 3 X as normal. The crab on noodles was a "C" at best. The crab was stringy and the noodles were very bland. If people at coming for drinks and appetizers it probably is a good choice but if someone wants a quality dinner experience I was told by 2 locals who come downtown a lot to eat at Lonesome Dove Brass Pearl JC Holdway (the best chef) Oliver Royale ( we ate here and the food quality and service were exceptional) Osteria Stella Emelia
