But I just left and walked to Dekalb for food at Fan Fried Rice instead, because after I was already seated, given water and menus and the asshat of a waiter that was serving me was already taking my order, he informed me that they had a $20 order minimum!! With no signage! FUCK THAT. I don't mind spending $20 for good food. But I'm not that hungry. I went because I knew it was a small plate place. I just wanted a little bit of food. Not that much. We ordered take out. I wish they do delivery!!! My husband ordered garlic rice and steak. Delicious! Very tasty. My flank steak was good. The garlic shrimp were huge! Looked like lobster tails. Wish they had a garlic butter sauce to accompany the fresh lemon. But still very good grilled. The tomato and mozzarella was an ok appetizer. Might be better fresh out the oven and needed a tad more seasoning. The asparagus were superb wish there were more than the 5 that came with my steak. All in all, excellent food. When a waiter or the kitchen messes up an order, I understand that no one's perfect. Three words. NO HIGH CHAIRS. I went in with my 3 year old son and i almost felt like the waitress was confused or almost lost seeing a child in there. I mean if its a restaurant, why are there no high chairs? Nonetheless, the food was great, service was just ok being that the waitress didn't ask me at all if i wanted more water after she saw me chug down my glass of water. Every dish we ordered was AMAZING. Menu was interesting, ingredients tasted fresh, and flavor was out of this world. They change the menu everyday, but we had a Harami grilled chicken shoulder/belly dish (so flavorful!), kimchi with sesame oil (really interesting if you're a kimchi fan), grilled edamame, crab fried rice, & soft shelled crab w/daikon + yuzu sauce and everything was impressive... they do a good job combining flavors and inventing new dishes. For drinks, they have sake cocktails, wine, + beer... we just stuck with wine but the sake cocktails looked interesting. From the daily changing menu to the hospitality and customer service. We even had our parents come out one night and have dinner with us. One of my favorite spots in Brooklyn, this low key place has a constantly changing menu due to the creativity in the kitchen. Literally, I've had every item. My biggest piece of advice for a new comer is to skip the drinks and focus on the awesome food. Although the place can be empty at times on other days it pays to reserve a table in advance. Make sure to include one of their salads into your meal before breaking into the meat, if your like me and my friends you'll end up over ordering but will feel no guilt whatsoever. Althought the snow crab lettuce roll is insane good the snow crab fried rice isn't worth the 20 comparatively to other items. Enjoy! read more

My husband and I go to this restaurant so often, we've become regulars. The menu changes everyday, and some how ALWAYS delivers. Most of the food is small plates and comes out in wonderfully timed waves so it doesn't take forever, but you also don't feel rushed. Personally, this is my favorite way to eat. You can get 3-4 plates between two people and eat a meal with drinks for a very reasonable price! The pork buns are a staple for good reason, but I'd also recommend trying some of the more obscure dishes. Ask what the new stuff is for that day. I usually don't order chicken at restaurants because it's generally boring and overpriced - the chicken here is not that. Every style I've tried has had delicious flavors that I've never tasted before! Great wine, beer, and sake. The staff is also awesome. Very attentive and friendly. I am writing this review for two reasons the first and most important is the fact that I have now eaten here four times and each of those visits has been nothing short of spectacular! The second reason is to call out one of the previous reviews as being absurd. (Skip this and go to bottom if you just want to know about the food) The fact that this reviewer accused the restaurant of having fake accounts to boost the ratings is absolutely hilarious! Don't you think if they were that concerned with Yelp they would also pay to have your negative post removed! (Yes you can do that I have several friends who worked for Yelp and they verified this). Yes the server is also the host there's also only like 7 tables four of which only seat 2 people so I don't really see an issue. The only time I could see a need for two servers would be during prime dinner hours Friday-Sunday if the place was packed. Each time we ate here the place was 50-75% full and at no point have I felt remotely neglected. Water was always filled and any questions I've had about dishes were promptly answered. The review also stated pertinent details of the dish were left out which I also think is ridiculous. Go ahead and google the names of the dishes it will tell you exactly what they are just because you personally don't know what a dish is doesn't mean their not telling you something. I can't say that you might not have received your food slower the expected however it's a small kitchen and maybe they were busy who knows maybe just an off night. I can say that this was not at all the case with any of my visits Now on to the food! The ramen is delicious and at $10 for a large bowl is one of the better deals in the area. Not only is it inexpensive but it's good only place better for ramen in the area is samurai papa but that's a ramen joint and you have to stand and eat or take out. The Grilled Kuro Edamame in duck fat w/ chili powder is one of the best edamame dishes I've had! (Do yourself a favor and squeeze the lemon on it) Tuna Name-rou (Japanese style tartar with scallions) another amazing dish and was a pretty big portion. I will say the version we had did have a healthy amount of wasabi on it so if you don't like spicy this is not for you. Tonight we had the Teisboku plates (each is served w/ miso soup , salad, and rice and are a great value) Both the salad and and miso were delicious I had the Fried Shrimp in Moromi-miso Sauce Once again this dish did not disappoint great flavor and perfectly cooked shrimp We also got the Kabosu chicken Nanban ( fried chicken lightly marinated in Kabosu w/ shiitake mushrooms & arugula) very unique flavor on this dish but another but once again delicious. Bed Stuy is blowing up with great new spots to eat and this is one of them! The chef/owner of Myrtle Diner is Japanese and has brought some of his country's flavors to the menu which apparently changes every night. The night we were there we had mushrooms and mussels for starters and grilled prawns, spare ribs and lamb chops for entrees. It was all amazing and served in a super casual atmosphere with friendly servers! You can get a beer for $5 and the eclair for dinner for $2 was a great way to finish a great experience! I have lived in New York for about, what, 6 years now and I've tried so many good restaurants (within my budget). 750 Myrtle has been my most favorite spot by far. As much as I don't like to advertise it (for selfish reasons) I thought writing about my experience would be my little way of saying thank you to the people who own it. The food is amazing. The menu surprises you each time and not in a bad way and the food is a great combination of fresh ingredients. My favorite food is the enoki mushroom pasta in white sauce. My other favorite is the pork buns. It's delicious and unique. I also liked the Japanese style fried chicken. I can go on and on about the food I like there but I'll stop here. Oh, the ambiance is great (Although I wouldn't use too much white had I been the interior designer) and everyone is respectful. I've been here twice now with my husband. We live across the street and could not believe our luck when we first tried it last year. We went again tonight and since this experience is fresh in my mind I will focus on it, although I know I liked it a lot last time too. Tonight I got the home made kimchi which was fresh tangy and delicious. The second course I had was zucchini with butter and fish roe. It was so delicious! By far my favorite dish of the night and super healthy! My husband had the fried chicken which he said was delicious. I tasted a bit of it and I'd have to agree. Finally we finished with a fish soup with a bullion base. It was a tiny bit too salty for me but overall very good. The service was excellent. I like the ambiance. In talking to the owner, he and the chef go to the store each morning and pickup the ingredients for that night's menu so whether we were eating our fluke ceviche or sauteed chicken liver (a first for me)- it was all so fresh and very, very good. This would be place would be 4 stars if they put thought into their service. The food was great, but came out slow and had no progression/flow. My fiancé ordered the grilled oyster app and branzino for his main. I told the server in place of a main I would have two apps - sautéed chicken liver and the fig, ricotta and arugula salad. Here was the progression: 1. Fig/ricotta salad - really tasty but no arugula. I was expecting a more traditional salad. Still delish though. 2. After the salad was finished came the grilled oysters. My fiancé ate them all but said they were good. 3. After the oysters were finished the chicken livers came. They were good but over salted. There was so much salt you could feel it crunching in your mouth. 4. After the livers were finished the branzino. Then 5 min later the fries that were the side dish. Nice fish but again, so much salt it added a crunchy texture. If I hadn't shared my food, we would only be eating one at a time. I had to sit and watch my fiancé eat at the end because of their poor progression. We were there for almost two hours watching each other eat! The best restaurant in Brooklyn right now is tucked away on an oddball semi-industrial corner at the intersection of hipster, Hasidic and 'hood (get a window seat and watch the wonderful melting pot of NYC bubbling restlessly). The interior is pretty quirky, too, a playful black-and-white art deco-ish something-or-other (bonus points for secret bathroom entrance hidden in plain sight). Great music playing. Relaxed and welcoming vibe. And oh, that kitchen. We had a ton of small plates, and each one was transcendent, luring you in with familiar flavor combinations and then blowing your mind with stunningly fresh ingredients and novel execution. Pork buns: piping hot pillows of fluffy dough that you stuff yourself with savory hunks of perfectly-cooked pork belly, shredded scallions, pineapple and hot mustard. Seared bonito sashimi: just enough sear to tamp down the rawness and bring out the savory, topped with a feather-light julienne of gingery vegetables. Oyster mushrooms and asparagus sautée was so mad delish for something so simple that we considered ordering another round, but then came shishito fritters that struck us dumb...and it kept on coming, dish after dish, carefully cooked and meticulously plated. Everything was fresh and bright, and the many umami explosions throughout the night were always balanced with a little spicy/citrus/sweet something. As soon as we finished I wanted it to be tomorrow night so I could eat here again. Smartly edited, wallet-friendly wine, beer and sake selection, and the menu changes daily because, as our server said, "We go shopping every day." And you can taste it in every dish. We didn't order dessert but the chef sent us a beautifully sliced donut peach that was crisp and tart, its deliberate not-quite-ripeness offset by a light drizzle of clear sweet sauce. The food was served tapas style and it was perfect for four people. Once the first dish came out, the wait staff kept the steady stream of plates coming out one after another. Highlights for me were the sautéed spinach with bacon, the enoki mushrooms, and the branzini. We took care of any extra empty space with the hanger steak and went home fat and happy. Had a lovely dinner here last night and was in heaven. We ended up over-ordering out of sheer excitement and curiosity, but that ended up not being such a bad thing. Making a reservation on the phone was a cinch and the person I spoke with was very accommodating. We were a large-ish party (6) so they sat us at the big table in back, which felt nice and private. The place is cozy but definitely not cramped, with a black-and-white art deco theme. As a large party, we were advised to choose the omakase option ($35 chef's choice prix-fixe) if we wanted it -- it's rumored to be very substantial -- but we decided to go a la carte in the end. The wine list was great and very reasonably priced; the Little James red we got was gorgeous, tasted surprisingly of rosemary, and was only $30. Since the menu changes daily my advice may not be relevant at this point, but major highlights were the (regular) fried chicken (perfect texture, pretty substantial), the nanban fried chicken, Berkshire pork buns (we got the last ones -- HUGE slabs of belly and plenty of buns, a total steal), and the buttered enoki mushroom -- an understatement as it was essentially spaghetti-like strands of enoki slathered in butter, garlic, and parmesan, like a good rich pasta but with a teeny tiny bit less guilt (not that that should matter in this context). Because it's really just the chef in the kitchen doing everything himself, orders come out at the rate he can make them. Most plates came out individually, but we knew that this was part of this restaurant's experience, and were happy to savor each dish on its own. Our server was a delight, very attentive with excellent recommendations. Given all of these strong points, it was truly an excellent deal; 10 generous plates and 2 great bottles of wine among 6 people came out to $34/pp (tax & tip included). The food was delicious and our dining experience was going well until the Shio Saba was served. The smell of the fish was pungent and nauseating, and the fish itself was leathery all the way through. We didn't feel comfortable eating it because we were worried it was bad and we were concerned about getting sick. Regardless, we were willing to stay and try other options. After speaking to our server, he kindly removed the dish and went to speak to the chef. When he came back to our table, he informed us that the chef no longer wanted to serve us. My partner and I paid out without objection, and even tipped our server 20% for his brief service. On my way out, I stopped by the food window out of respect to apologize to the chef. As a server, I understand how frustrating the business can be, especially when it's a small, locally-owned establishment, with a hands-on chef showcasing his craft. He immediately began yelling at me through the window in front of everyone dining in, and told me to never come back. He proceeded to raise his voice even further, and insinuate that my partner doesn't deserve to call himself Japanese (he's Japanese). His anger was explosive and volatile; clearly lacking in self-control. I cannot begin to imagine what it's like working for such a miserable, poor excuse of a man as a server--or what really goes on behind the scenes of that restaurant--if my experience as a customer was this terrible.
