To start off, our server made our experience at hiyake so much better than we could imagine. She was super attentive checking up on us and ensuring the meat was cooked properly. She also pointed out the best cuts of some of the meats and put it on our plates to try first! There's a variety of meats to choose from and we got the kobe wagyu, short rib, skirt steak, and ribeye. It was my first time having wagyu and it was so delicious. It literally just melts in your mouth. Hiyake also offers fruity soy sauce and chili powder which enhances every piece of meat you eat. I'm not a fan of spicy but that chili powder was so good with the meats. Ribeye and short rib was definitely a must try as well and the meats were perfectly cooked and the cut into the right size. We also got takoyaki which was so delicious. The filling was just perfect ratio. The chicken katsu was delicious as well. The chicken katsu also came with rice, asparagus, seaweed salad and an egg. The rice was seasoned which enhanced the flavor. The chicken karaage was tasty. Overall, I absolutely enjoyed dining here and would definitely come back. Something about the fruity soy sauce and chili powder makes me wanna go back for more. Super close to the L train station and the surrounding area has places to shop to walk off all the delicious food.

Too much sauce, could barely taste the flavors of the bread and beef

Would give 0 stars if I could. We had ordered the ultimate yakiniku set and at $148 per person, I'd expect timely service and attentive care with cooking our food. Unfortunately there were two servers for the entire restaurant during dinner service so half the time our meats and uni was sitting on our table thawing. We were not given water until it was asked for and they never refilled our waters either. On top of that we waited over 30 mins after our meal was finished for them to bring up the eel foie gras that I assumed was considered an appetizer. All they had to do was sear the foie gras and eel n put it on a plate since the tamago came COLD. That shouldn't have taken over 30mins to make. Like I understand they are understaffed but that is not my problem because if you're going to charge omakase prices then I expect omakase service. Management and kitchen need to figure their stuff out. I've never stepped out of a restaurant so angry. Oh and to add to the insult, the food wasn't even great. All the waiting and I was served over cooked beef - the server forgot to oil our grill and our wagyu ended up sticking to grill and so it was served to us in bits and pieces. The food from the kitchen was drenched in sauce and over powered all the food. Seriously, do not waste your time here.

bruv. we were not ready. hiyake blew. our. minds. a friend had recommended hiyake to us and the only regret i have about this place is that we didn't come sooner. food: 5/5 - the quality, presentation and flavor of all the dishes here is just *chefs kiss* forreals. you can opt for two different pre-fixe sets (a third option only available monday - thursday), one for ~$140 (ultimate) and the other for $70 (premium). if you liked a particular cut or dish, you can also order a la carte. my bf and i got one of each set and while both sets were AMAZING, i'd recommend the premium set as you'll still get quality yummy dishes and i personally think it's a better deal. it seems like a few of the dishes of the sets rotate by season as we didn't get the oysters and the photos on yelp show cake for dessert but we got a custard with grass jelly. everything here was so fresh and delicious!! the stand outs to me were the salad (i know, sounds strange but it was so well done), the a5 and american ribeye and tenderloin. the dishes continue to come out (not in order of the menu) as the meats are getting grilled table side by your server. service: 5/5 - fast, friendly and engaging but not overbearing. our server explained each cut with suggestions on how to eat it. ambiance: 5/5 - sitting on the corner bedford and north 8th, hiyake is smaller and really unassuming. you walk in and there are about 4 larger tables with grills, seating at the counter and smaller tables without grills closer to the door. the only thing i'd call out is that the music here is not great. at one point there was country then spanish music playing in the background. i really cannot recommend this place enough. the quality and price can't be beat and we'll definitely be back soon!

    The side dishes! So good!

My fiancé and I came here for the premium set ($68) per guest. Food: they started us out with the side dishes and it was very delicious! It came with octopus, prawn, and A third dish that I do not remember what it was, but was delicious! The Hiyake salad came with a good amount of crab, but tasted very strong of wasabi most of the time so could not fill enjoy the taste of the crab. The soba was by far my favorite of the appetizer before the grand entree. The teriyaki beef ball was so soft and so flavorful! The meat was cooked by the staff one by one and they tell us the best way to eat it and ask how we would like it cooked. I love how much options they give us! Service: Great service! My only con would be I wish they fill up our water when it's empty, but overall the experience was great! Ambiance: the ambiance felt cozy and we came at a not very busy time as well. Overall: the price for what we get was amazing! The service was just right and we definitely came out very full! If your still hungry though you can always walk over for a slice or Joe pizza! But we were feeling just right.

Came here on Saturday during lunch time. There was no wait and we got seated right away. Nice and clean inside. The place isn't very big. Have a few booths with 1 grill in the middle, and few tables without the grills. There's also a bar in the middle. They offered high chair for children. We ordered: *Ribeye steak (which you cook yourself) *Pan fried chuck rib bento box which comes with rice, seaweed salad, an egg and 1 asparagus cut into 3 tiny stripes. *I personally really enjoy the chuck rib. Loved the flavor and the juiciness and tenderness of the meat. Both the waitresses who tended to us were very nice and attentive. Making sure everything was alright with our orders and our needs.

A Japanese-style yakiniku restaurant hidden deep in Williamsburg: Hiyake Really unique: A5 Wagyu beef, foie gras, caviar, sea urchin, seabass, ten chefs ‍ special sauce [color][color][color], comparable to Michelin,

Loved my experience! Came here quite early on a Saturday night (4pm) and there was no wait. The staff were very friendly and attentive with food being served quickly and our server cooking our food to perfection (you can also cook the food on your own). The meats were well marinated and very high quality - we ordered the Kobe wagyu, short rib, skirt steak, and duck breast - with the duck breast surprisingly being our favorite! All of their menu items also pair perfectly with their house-made soy sauce and spice mixture. The place is nice and cozy for a date night or a casual hangout for smaller groups - most of the tables I saw seat up to 5-6. They also have bar seating with grills set up on the bar as well, with a very well stocked bar from what I could see. 10/10 recommend, can't wait to come back!

Stopped by a normal weekday night, I've tried hiyake on Manhattan location since they just opened. Now they just opened another hiyake on Brooklyn. I am a crazy wagyu lover so me and my friends decided to go on Brooklyn location. Talked to the waiter that they just renovated the whole place. When I walked into the store, I was actully attracted by the new decoration. They have 3 different types of omakase menu. We chose the $148 one. Served with multiple wagyu dishes. All the dishes come out with exquisite presentation, and no doubt the quality is top level. My favorite one is the japanese A5 wagyu with hokkaido uni and caviar on the top. The taste was so amazing, for uni you can smell and taste the favor of the natural sea. Definatly highly recommened.

I found this restaurant on Instagram and decided to try the Brooklyn location. The first time I went, we didn't make any reservation and the hostess said the wait would be around an hour so we left. So we decided to make reservation few days ahead and went to the restaurant today. I made it for 7pm, arrived on time and We were told all the bbq tables taken but we should be able to get our table in few minutes. So I thought, not a big deal, we could wait. At 7:20pm, our waiter comes over and tells us they have a table of 5 coming for their 7:30pm rsvp. I was just baffled... basically the next available table was a table that could fit 5 and they didn't want to give it to us (me and my bf). The next available table after that was maybe going to be around 7:40 or more. What's the point of reservation. We booked for 7pm, waited just to be told the people that made rsvp for 7:30 was going to get the seat. The management deserves 0 but I give it one star for the waiter who was apologetic and gave us drink on the house. Welp, never coming back.

First time here, very nice place, very good service, and very good quality of food!! Highly recommended!!!

The theme of this restaurant is Japanese Wagyu and American Wagyu. There are side dishes and desserts for free. We are full. We spent $168 plus tip, and the price is reasonable

Have never been for…read moredinner so can only speak for the lunch vibe, but I have found the service to be great and the lighting is nice because there are floor to ceiling windows. The menu is pretty diverse with various appetizers, sushi, and also ramen/curry so your standard izakaya fare. One of my favorite dishes here has been the chirashi. The fish was very fresh and it's pretty affordable. I've only ever been here in groups of two and I probably would recommend it for smaller groups because the space itself is small and most of the tables are two-seaters if I recall correctly.

It's been open for a few years, so clearly it has a good enough formula to keep the neighborhood happy. I have been here once before, but returned last week after dining several meals at Tomoni in Jackson Heights. Apparently, the owners are friends. Nonetheless, I needed to make the comparison. After my first few bites of their Tora Don and Chirashi Don, it was clear that this restaurant has the better quality seafood. Each slice of sashimi had vibrant colors, clean taste, and the proper texture. Tomoni is not bad, but fall slightly short of this caliber. With that said, there is an even farther gap between their rice quality. Though Tora is very good, Tomoni produces nearly perfect texture and acidity for my taste buds. Other than the best omakase restaurants in NYC, Tomoni shines as one of the best versions of sushi rice in the five boroughs. Service is good and space is cute. If I have a craving for some decent Japanese food, I would drive 20 minutes here for a meal anytime.
