We came late at night and they weren't really busy. The area isn't the best and this gas station only had like 6 pumps. I filled up quickly and left. A gas station a couple blocks from Fisherman's Wharf if you really need gas. It was a tiny bit pricier than typical gas in the area, though to be expected. It's a smaller station with just a handful of pumps, so you may have to wait for the current car to vacate or maneuver around cars coming out. The station was clean, though took me 2 attempts to get the pay at pump to work properly. You get what you'd expect from a gas station and no frills. Phillip has been my trusty mechanic since I moved back into the city. He's honest and always lets me know what to expect in terms of cost for parts & labor, time, etc. He's timely and I've never had to return for the same issue. Phillip really does go above and beyond. Due to faulty manufacturing, my transmission went out and lucky for me, Ford wasn't able to replace it for 2 months. Phillip let me park in my inoperable car in his lot, saving me hundreds of dollars. If you live in the city, you know that they enforce the 72-hour policy pretty strictly, especially in my hood, so to not have to worry about that was such a relief! I highly recommend Phillip. Even when I move from my neighborhood, I'll probably still come to him since he's so kind and wonderful! read more

My car battery died at the Trader Joe's parking lot down the street. A quick search on Yelp lead us to 76 a block away. Super convenient. People working there helped us find a replacement battery quickly. I bought an Interstate battery from them. Good quality battery at a fair price. I thought it was a good experience. We walked back to TJs and replaced the battery ourselves. Then returned to 76 to drop off old battery for disposal. Highly recommend these folks. read more

We came here at midnight last Saturday night, tired after a very long day. My friend was not able to get the gas nozzle to attach to the tank on her new car and asked the owner (looks like it was Phillip) if he could help us. Instead he shouted that this was a self-service station and to do it herself if she wanted gas. She tried again for 10 minutes and was still not able to get it on, and asked him again for help with the nozzle. Again, he yelled that he wasn't coming out to help and told us to go somewhere else. Which we did, to the Chevron on Lombard where we had no problems whatsoever. I'm not sure what his Phillip's problem was, but his behavior was uncalled for, especially when my friend was being her usual polite self. I'm still astounded by the rude owner and I will never come here again and tell everyone I know to avoid it. read more

This was the cleanest gas station I've ever been to! The bathroom was recently cleaned and had a sign asking us to report to them if it isn't. The gas handle and machine were recently cleaned as well. When I got there I saw two workers tidying up the site by taking out the trash and cleaning the machines. I really appreciate that this 76 is taking everyone's safety so seriously. Theyre really a model for how every gas station should be right now. read more

Philip Lew is the owner/operator of the service/auto repair and he is wonderful. He would not have been working at midnight as the gas station attendant, per the negative Yelp review. Re: his repair work, he helped me jump-start my car, taking the time to explain to me how I was using my new jump-starter battery box incorrectly. Then he encouraged me to drive the car around for a long time before deciding whether or not to replace the battery, which would naturally cost me more money. It turned out that I did need to replace the battery, which he made time to do, even though he had to work late. A tight knit group of lazy mechanics "work" here. I won't go blow for blow on the details but they are lucky I took my medication that day or else there would have been an altercation. I felt well-taken care of by honest and hard-working mechanic Philip, at the Union 76 Fisherman's Wharf location. Highly recommended for auto service. Philip was so helpful and straightforward, and he works late - I got a flat tire and rolled in around 6:30pm, and he was there helping out some other stranded travelers. He says he's normally there until around 7pm which is amazing. I saw him try hard to refuse the big tip another customer tried to give him - she only got him to take it by tossing it on the ground where he was squatting, looking at my tire. He called me when he said he would, and his price for a new tire and labor was extremely reasonable. read more

This review is solely based on my experience as a driver looking to fill up my gas tank, therefore this should not affect your decision on looking into their service station, which usually looks pretty busy and has some good reviews on here about it. About my experience on filling up the gas tank, it's pretty simple. The worker at the cashier is nice, just doing their job. The real downside to this place is just the very high gas prices compared to other locations. Expect to pay $0.15-0.25 more per gallon at this location and for air $0.75 if you don't buy gas. For emergencies when I'm low on gas, there's not many other stations around and this is your only option within the area. On the bright side, it's one of the few gas stations with close to no pan handlers and if your in the mood a Starbucks right across from it and a cost plus store neighboring it. read more

I visited the gas station for a second time tonight to put a few bucks in the Prius to ensure my husband makes it to the South Bay in the morning without having to stop for gas on the way there. This will be the last time I pay (too much) for gas here - as this was the second time that I put in money ($10 = 2.5 gallons), and the gas indicator in the car did not move!! $10 for a Prius is at least a fourth of a tank (if not a third), so for the needle to not move one bar (again) makes me question the tanks at this place. This also happened the first time, but I may have overlooked it as I just didn't put enough gas in because I only put in a few bucks. Now I think it's them. This is real "service" station. The "Gas station" is separate from the service area, completely separate! I live in the neighborhood and Philip, the owner (of the service area) grew up in the area and is always honest and has prices that are affordable. The only time I have bought gas here is because I forgot to fill up when I was in the Mission or the Excelsior districts! If you live in the area and need an honest mechanic that is also a very nice guy, then this is the spot. If you buy gas here, that's your problem. The gas prices are set for the tourists, figure it out! When I was growing up, and there were a ton of gas stations at the Wharf, they were all very overpriced. I live in the neighborhood, and had a nail in one of my tires. Fortunately, it was a slow enough leak that I could go down to the Fisherman's Wharf 76 station to get it fixed. He not only fixed the tire for $20, but took the car around the block to clear the warning light for the low pressure, and then he noticed that one of the rear light bulbs was out (a warning light was on for that). He fixed that one as well, for free! I've had a few other minor services from this place, and always found them helpful and well priced for service. read more

I trust PHILLIP LEW of 76/Bay St in SF implicitly with my car ( Mazda Miata, a make/brand he happens to know a lot about). He is honest, has integrity, and gives me confidence in knowing my car will be taken care of as if it was his own, even replacing a fuse for free ( when any other mechanic might have said it was the "starter" or the "engine," etc and charged me hundreds of dollars). If you are looking for a good and trustworthy mechanic, then I would highly recommend Phillip and his team! I own a business that has a fleet of vans that I had previously taken to Noe Valley Auto. It wasn't until I had spent $5000 on the same vehicle to have the same problem repaired 3 times at Noe that I realized I had been working with your stereotypical shady mechanic. When I found Union 76 I truly realized how much I had been taken advantage of at my old shop. Now my fleet is serviced regularly, problems are corrected the first time and I am never overcharged. Furthermore, Phillip is great to work with which makes me happy to give him my business. You don't have to buy gas from the place (though if you understand anything about economics you'll know why they charge more here) but their auto shop is top notch! read more

The Wharf 76 mechanics are friendly, knowledgeable, PROFESSIONAL and honest. I got a flat tire in the middle of the night and the night time attendant helped me out and secured my car for the night. And he did not have to (Try that somewhere else in a major city). The next day, it was fixed, checked out, and ready to go. A great team of helpful and HONEST people!
