So I thought my brakes were messed up and was so scared that the brakes might go out on me (this is SF, lots of hills) so I dropped off my car. Leo and the guys took my car, looked at it in a timely manner, and I found out that the brakes were fine but that the brakes had air bubbles or something in or around them and that the guys had to beat the bubbles out. More importantly, I found out that my radiator was leaking. I wasn't happy to hear that. I am currently investing in something and don't have extra money to spare... I kept asking them how important is it that I replace my leaking radiator (I didn't want to do it lol). I kept asking them, it is urgent, is it dire, must I??? They advised me yes... that if I don't replace my leaking radiator that it could inevitably mess up my engine which would create an even bigger problem. So... I agreed, they also texted me pictures of my car and the radiator. I fixed it and they got it done for me in one day. At the end of everything, he charged me SUCH a fair and discounted price for the radiator and the brakes... such a fair price. I'm just so thankful. Living here alone is not easy, usually my dad from back home would help me out... but I am out here alone and I am just glad I finally found a place I trust and a family owned place. When I used to live in San Mateo and Palo Alto I used to go to the Pep boys... but the service there was so bad. I'm thankful I found a shop in the city now that I can turn to!! read more

The most dishonest people I have ever dealt with, period. I came here for an oil change and they were trying to upsale their premium synthetic oil to me. I gladly took it because I want to do every thing good for my car. However, after the oil change, I noticed some sound coming from the engine. I was told that the engine is getting used to the new oil so this is expected. Fine, I gotta believe what the professionals said right? Then I just drove my car home. A week later, I am still hearing that engine noise. That's absolute not normal. I asked my friend to check what's going on. He was suspecting there's something wrong with the new engine oil. He was right! The engine sound was completely gone after he changed the oil for me. I would never go to small shops like this for anything related to my car again! read more

Beware! I've used them 3-4 times in the past year, out of location and convenience, with each time intending only to change my oil. Their apathetic service I can tolerate but they may also be dishonest. This latest time, I was told I should also change my battery, which surprised me given that I had no major issues with starting my car, but then agreed to (how would I know better at that moment; they are the supposed experts). Afterwards, I looked at my personal maintenance log, which showed I'd changed my battery just 22 months earlier (I didn't overtly hurt my battery life as far I know). After quick googling, surprise surprise, it seems I was over-charged ~$75 for the battery itself. There's also a battery recycling fee (~$20) that can be refunded if someone returns the old battery to an auto parts store, that they should have deducted from my total cost but did not. If possible, please do not just agree to their service. Maybe hear their diagnosis and then leave if you can. If possible, do your own research afterwards and/or find a different place for a 2nd opinion. Not sure which honest places to go to though. read more

So, I almost feel guilty writing this review, because the idea of harming someone's business conceivably is not something I can do light-heartedly, but the whole idea of Yelp is to get greater insight on the businesses you frequent, and I feel that this is something that people should be aware of. So anyways. I bought a car here from either the owner or one of the mechanics, I'm not sure. And I should have brought it somewhere for a second opinion prior to purchase, but I was impulsive and just purchased it. A few days later, I DID take it in to get checked out, and was diagnosed with a bad starter motor and about-to-give-out brakes. Ironically enough, the mechanic who sold me the vehicle specifically volunteered the information, "The brakes are good". Evidently they were so bad that when I asked if I could wait a week to fix it, the mechanic said "Yeah, probably, if you drive it very lightly." Either the person who sold it to me was very dishonest, or not a very good mechanic, not to notice such a glaring issue-and one that honestly could have seriously endangered me. Whichever it was, it is not something I would want in a mechanic working on my vehicle. I will go back to speak to them about this, and edit my review if warranted, but I doubt they could have a valid excuse for this negligence of this magnitude. read more

The guy at this shop ripped me off on my car repair today. I am SO sick of getting ripped off by auto mechanics! He quoted me a combined total of $335 to get the alternator replaced in my car, but later I found out online the alternator part only cost $100 instead of the $168 he quoted me on. Near the end of repairing my car, he said I needed my radiator hose replaced and the coolant needed to be refilled. He said he wouldn't charge me labor, and that those parts would come to $50. Well, when the bill came, I realized he had charged me $28 for the small amount of coolant he poured into my radiator - coolant does NOT cost $28. And I really do not know if the radiator hose needed to be replaced (like he said he did) because I found out later that my brother had actually replaced that radiator hose just 2 months earlier, so it was brand new. The guy who is the owner of the shop does not speak English well, he misunderstood me more than once and did not make sense when he was talking. read more

Our battery died while in China Town and we were lucky to be within walking distance of this place. This was our battery's last leg and we realized we needed to replace it. This shop gave us a fair price for a battery and didn't charge us for labor, even though we were obviously stranded tourists. We were in and out within minutes. SUPER Dishonest mechanics with the courage to rip off me who knew nothing about cars. Gave false information and replaced cheap brakes and changed incorrect oil on my Lexus! Car overheated within 30 minutes driving on the highway with a loud screeching sound from my tires. I am considering filing a complaint with the BAR! Stay away from these crooks!!!! read more

I should be very happy, because they diagnosed and fixed the problem with my car really fast. Clearly, the staff is knowledgeable and efficient. Then why not 5 stars? Because I felt they were much too pushy and tried really hard to rip me off. I negotiated the final price and the guy agreed to go down with a price a little if I paid cash. After I returned from the ATM he pretended the negotiation never took place and still tried to charge me regular price! They also tried to perform additional services which I didn't want, so I wouldn't have to deal with their pricing which looks like this: they call their supplier to ask about part's price and they speak Chinese (I think) so you can't understand a word. Then they tell you the price and add labor cost out of thin air. Overall, if you are firm what you want to do and what you need and if you call another service to compare the prices you should be good. But if you want to trust your mechanic and not worry about anything - it will cost you a lot here. read more

I live nearby. My best friend had just finishes a SF to LA to Las Vegas to SF loop and arrived in SF at my house with his front wheel almost off. Apparently the two of four lug nuts on his front tire came off and he could have had a terrible accident and caused even more of an accident of the tire had come off while driving on the freeway at high speed. I didn't know where to go, so I went to the closet auto repair shop to at least support a neighborhood business. Super glad I did! Leo - the business owner - personally oversaw the repair of the tire situation and had it resolved in under an hour. He did such a spectacularly fast and good job on detecting, diagnosing and solving the dire tire situation that my buddy wanted him to repair the broken AC - which is a huge job and usually expensive. Leo - the owner - had his top mechanic repair the A/C. (A/C repair/replacement is a HUGE job. Parts alone can cost upwards of $1,400. Pacific Auto Care located the part needed he found a needed part for A/C repair from an individual in GA for $900 - $500 less than the other quote - he had it "over-nighted" and in the car in working in short order the next day. IN AN ERA WHERE PEOPLE STEP ON EACH OTHER TO GET AHEAD IN LIFE - IT WAS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR TO HAVE BEEN THE BENEFICIARY OF SUCH PROFESSIONAL AND HONESTY. Mr.Lau been helping us out since 2002. We go every 3 months for oil change, $30 without any needs for coupon. For a couple of times I had flat tires, they were able to repair for $10 or $15 I don't remember, but we have no complains whatsoever. read more

Pacific Auto Care is one of the worst auto repair places I have ever been to and by far the most dangerous place I have ever brought my vehicle into for repair. I brought my vehicle in because it was making loud cranking & scratching noises. The person who quoted me said I need new brakes, a alternator replaced, a new radiator hose, an oil change, and a refill of the coolant. He quoted me $520.00 for the front and back brakes, $180.00 for an alternator to be replaced, $100.00 for a radiator hose, $120.00 for an oil change and $40.00 to replace the coolant. He said he will only charge me $220.00 for the labor. The total cost of my entire job was $1,180. Fine, whatever it takes to stop the cranking/loud noises. He said the job will be done in less than 4 hours and told me to come back before 5pm to pick up the car. I came at 5:10 pm to pick up my car, he then says "The brake pads are good brand so the price will be extra". I was furious because he never called nor told me about the price change. Fine. The amount I paid for my car was about $1,245.00! I picked up my car, left in anger and never went back! Not even after 2 days, my brake light came on and I went back to their place. They said they will have to charge me $80.00 THAT'S $80.00!!!! to check what the problem was about my brakes. I said no and left. I brought it into a different auto repair shop in downtown because I felt that something wasn't right. I had this gut feeling that they never did the job that was performed. I paid the auto repair shop in downtown $50.00 to check if everything Pacific Auto Care done was true and real. Guess what? Turns out Pacific was not telling the truth! The brake pads they put in were USED brake pads! The alternator had nothing to do with the cranking noise, the radiator hose did not need to be replaced and was irelevent to the problem, the oil change did not need to be performed, and the coolant was not nesscary. After hearing all of this, I took pictures of all the jobs Pacific performed and will be filing a claim with my credit card company to have all of this reversed! They are never touching my car again, I have spent only $455.00 to get my brakes changed AGAIN and have solved the cranking/loud noises with the auto repair shop in downtown. All in all, STAY AWAY from Pacific Auto Care if you do not know what needs to be replaced for your vehicle and what job needs to be done! read more

He was able to replace 4 struts for the old car my daughter is taken to San Diego with no fuss nor muss. Now she is calling about a noise from the car. This place cannot get enough stars. ! One Saturday afternoon, on the way back from IKEA to the city, my oil gauge drops to zero in the middle of the bridge. Even though no oil light went on, I freaked out. We carefully drove to our house and started to look for help. By now it was 5.00 pm ... as we needed the car on Sunday, our mood became grimmer and grimmer as all of the places we called were closed. My wife remembered Pacific Auto Care on Pacific street in Chinatown so I took the bike to go and check it out. Raymond was still there and told me to bring the car by right away. When my wife arrived with the car, he took one look under the hood and diagnosed a faulty oil pressure sensor. He immediately went to the phone and called around, finding a Kragen Store carrying the part. He told me to get the part and come back; he'd wait. And he did. I came back around 7.00 ... he fiddled it in, everything worked fine. Then, AFTER ALL THE WAITING, AFTER IT BEING PAST 7.00 PM ON A SATURDAY NIGHT, HE INSISTED ON CHARGING ONLY ONE HALF HOUR OF LABOR. It took my wife and myself some serious effort to convince him to charge at least one hour for saving our weekend, staying open etc. and as I had at least expected an oil pump exchange or something similar. Two months later, I brought the car back for an oil change and a basic tune up ... he provided a reliable estimate, and kept calling to keep me in the loop with the progress. After all was done, we had performed a major tune up (I missed one before) and it cost me less than half that I would have paid anywhere else. The car was afterwards running like a champ ... I have been going to Pacific Autocare for years and have taken them an assortment of cars. They are always very efficient in terms of time - if you need it back the same day they will do their best to turn it around. They even waited for me and hour post closing time one time so that I could pick up the car. How often has that happened to you in the past? Leo is the guy I have worked with most and he has always been very nice. Driven around the block with me multiple times while we try and listen for a problem (which of course while he was in the car went away). Prices have always been reasonable for this speed of turnaround and always much more reasonable than the dealer. Overall, for speed, friendliness and reasonable price, a great auto shop. I have never had the issues some of the other reviews profiled - I would ask for Leo to ensure you wont have an issue. read more
