I had heard there was this banging sandwich joint in Frederick. This has to be the place I had heard about. Walked in 15 minutes before they close on a Sunday. Still took care of us in a flash. Wife order the north shore club. How they are making money on that sandwich I have no idea. Had to be at least a 1/2 lb of meat on it. It was a righteous sandwich. I had the special called the cubano. It was a Cuban sandwich done right. From the bread to the meat. This needs to be a standard menu item. We also ordered the southwest fries. This almost could be a meal in itself. The chicken was so moist it wasn't even funny. So getting that again next time I am here. I will admit it's a bit of a whole in the wall. Since this is a sandwich shop, I've decided to write this review as a compliment sandwich. First off, the food is pretty darn good. My first time there I got the Black and Blue short board, the steak was tender and flavorful, however it kept falling off of the sub, so I ended up just eating the meat off of it. The second time I got the chicken parm short board, which was also good. The cheese stick on the sandwich is a nice touch. Now for the bad. I'm not really a fan of the bread on the sandwich, it seems like a folded up piece of sandwich bread, but I can get past that. This most recent time that I went, a coworker went to pick up the food. She ordered it over the phone and I heard her place the order. She said "chicken parm" at least 3 times. She came back with chicken BBQ. When she brought it back, the girl behind the counter gave her a dirty look like it was my friends mistake and not hers. My boss got the Old Bay chips, which cost about $1.50 and was a very very small portion. Also the people I know who have gone in state that the restaurant is not very clean. The hushpuppies are great! With ketchup they're delicious and very filling. The prices here are very reasonable. Overall, this place is definitely worth a try. read more

Three stars for good food, but the place needs a good cleaning. The first thing that hit me when I walked in the door was the overwhelming smell of frying oil. As in, I knew my hair and clothes were going to smell like it the rest of the day. The place is going for a beach vibe, but in a very amateur way. The tables are covered (and taped?) with clear plastic and a cardboard cutout "7" on them. Most of the plastic looks like it needs to be replaced. Two shower curtains separate the front order counter from the kitchen (weird). Hubby and I placed our order for a steak & cheese, open-faced Rachel, hush puppies and drinks. On the walk over to the drink station, we both heard our shoes sticking to the floor with each step. I haven't had my shoes stick to a floor like that since the early 80's college-bar days. The floor is filthy. We sat at a table and waited for our food. By this time the grease fumes were starting to burn my eyes. The food was brought out fairly quickly. Hubby said the steak and cheese had good flavor, and he liked the soft roll, which their website says they make on site. The Rachel was also very good, with plenty of turkey, Swiss cheese, and covered in "soviet" sauce (their homemade thousand island). I also enjoyed the homemade rye bread. The hush puppies are great. They have a touch of sweetness; crunchy on the outside, with a good cornbread center. Yes I realize the same grease that burned my eyes made those hush puppies!! I totally appreciate that this is a family owned business trying to make a go of it. However, the lack of cleanliness in the customer area makes me question the sanitation in the kitchen. Overall, we decided we may order from there again, but get it to go and order the sauce on the side. When we got home we hung our clothes outside to air. Until they give the floor a good scrub and get some better ventilation or change their oil, I won't eat inside. read more

Surprisingly low prices for the large portions that you're getting. I had the Reef Break (from the menu: garden veggies, artichoke hearts, red peppers, cucumbers, tomato, sprouts, muenster, vinaigrette, Italian roll) and it was delicious. I wish I had heard of this place sooner! It's a little hidden in the 7th St shopping center between the CVS and Starbucks with a nondescript storefront, but it is definitely a pleasant surprise. This place is absolutely fabulous. I work at Ft. Detrick and this is my absolute favorite place to eat lunch. They have EVERYTHING on their menu. Hot and cold sandwiches, cheesesteaks, chicken parm, breakfast etc. I have never had anything that was not delicious or amazing. The hush puppies, surfin' sauce, and clearly handmade ranch dressing are all obsessions for me now. The club sandwiches are so huge I have to ask them to leave out the middle piece of bread or I literally cannot fit them in my mouth. I love the beachy decor and fun atmosphere. Wow, so this place is amazing!! I am literally wish that I lived in Frederick just so I can eat here on a regular basis. I got the Crete island with fried green tomato and fried onion leashes, as well as old bay fries. My fiancé got something but I was too distracted by by and delicious food to remember. Either way, we were both in heaven! the fries were delicious, so flavorful and cooked just the way I like them, kind of dark like boardwalk fries, some crispy bits and some soft ones. The onion leashes were delicious! As was the dip they came with, and there was so much of them!! I think it's actually a pound, so I highly recommend getting one serving for the whole party and sharing. My sandwich was so delicious, so flavorful, literally one of the best sandwiches I've ever had which is saying a lot because I'm not that into sandwiches. The veggies are $2.95 as a side and are worth every penny. We got zucchini, red and green peppers and carrots with a side of homemade ranch. I walked here with my good friend and her 4 year old, my 2 year old and 3 month old. It is 2 or 3 doors down from a Subway and to be honest it wasn't that much more than Subway and the sandwiches are 1000% better. I got the Godfather and ate half because I ate the chilled veggies and also some fresh Old Bay potato chips. I loved the bread and how soft it was. I felt like it showcased the thinly sliced meat in my sandwich. I was very happy. Our kids split a grilled cheese and it looked great. They had a contest over who could eat the most carrots the fastest--I love this place for offering a side that made the veggies look so appealing. My friend got the Twin Fin club and she was extremely happy as well. I also got the Twin Fin and the Summer Salad to go for dinner that night. The cashier asked if I wanted to dressing on the side since I was eating it later--yes, thank you for asking! The sandwich was fantastic even after waiting fro a few hours and the salad was delicious. The mozzarella tasted fresh and yummy and the dressing was delicious. This is a cool place to grab a delicious sandwich, chips, and a drink for lunch. A little chocolate chip cookie even is tucked away in your sandwich wrapper - a nice surprise for a sweet bite after downing your scrumptious sandwich. The menu is vast and eclectic, with something for everyone. As a vegetarian, I was excited to see some viable options on the menu for me. Adding some tempeh, veg chicken, etc. would spice up the veggie offerings though. Plus you could sub them on many sandwiches fairly easily. Great and friendly little independent sandwich shop - we stopped en route home on a road trip and were so pleased to be able to get fresh, made to order food as an alternative to the usual fast-food yuck. Everything was piping hot, generously sized (the onion strings alone could've served 4!) and tasty -- chicken BBQ and chicken parm sandwiches were both thumbs-up. The Ziploc bag of mini chocolate chip cookies was the perfect finish - homemade crispy goodness. And all for prices that we couldn't believe -- in DC they would've easily charged 50% more. Great local sandwich shop in a shopping plaza. I ordered the FGTB (fried green tomato and bacon) sandwich and it was just the right thing. Not too heavy but satisfying with that crispy bacony goodness. The bread was nicely toasted and still soft and chewy on the inside. My fiancé ordered the chicken Parmesan sandwich. Delicious marinara with ooey gooey cheese on top. Staff seemed friendly enough and seemed family owned. Perfect lunch spot for something familiar with a twist. To top it off the prices were great! The local paper has a "best of" contest every year, and the 7th Street Sandwich Shop won several categories. So after reading that last week, we gave it a try. The competition in Frederick is mainly AKA Friscos in the south and Wegmans in the north. Both are far better than 7th St.--both in quality and in price. First, I have no idea who owns or operates the restaurant, but it appears to have been open at least since Nov. 2014, when the first review was written. So that's over a year and a half...much too long to have the types of problems I saw. It's amateur hour. Even with a limited budget you can do better than hand lettered signs, empty display cases, and a finish on the wooden tables that makes them sticky to the touch. And a sign out front that says something other than "Take Out" might help as well. A few photos of the sandwiches would not go amiss. Whimsical murals on the walls were a good idea, but then why cover them up with potato chip displays??? Whose idea was that??? First, the menu was on both sides of the paper, but the girl (I'll say "girl" because she looked very young) at the counter didn't point that out until my wife had ordered. Since the girl had greeted us with "Is this your first time here?" one would think she would have pointed out immediately that the menu had two sides. Also the sandwiches are in 3 categories: long board, short board, and something else. Very cute, and yes, it matched the surfing theme, but I had to ask what the significance was--and it was important. One was on a sub roll, the other on bread, and the third on....I forget! Again, a vital point that should have been pointed out, but wasn't. And the paper menus were pretty grungy. Too expensive to laminate them? Too expensive to print a new set out every day or week??? What? On to the food. I got the "Maverick" and my wife got a parmesan sandwich. She gave the parmesan sandwich a slightly below average grade--it seemed like it had been sitting around for a while, not freshly made, and the chicken was relatively bland and tasteless. There was also way too much breading--considering it's going on a sandwich, why so much breading??? The Maverick was also average, if that. The meat was OK, but I can make a similar sandwich at home. The point of buying one for about $8 is that for $8 you get something you can't make at home. The bread is vital in a sandwich. Wegmans subs have the best bread--several options are available, and it is always fresh. I assume they bake it in the store. AKA Friscos also has superior bread--a much bigger roll, and very fresh. And both of these places have sandwiches MUCH bigger than 7th Street. The other problem was the tomato, lettuce, and dressing. Not enough of any. A couple shreds of lettuce and two slices of tomato. Dressing? I suppose it was there, but I sure couldn't taste it. It's always a mystery to me why restaurants open--esp. specialty restaurants with a very limited menu--without doing the obvious: scouting the competition. If you put similar sandwiches from 7th Street, Wegmans, and AKA Friscos on a tray, you wouldn't even have to taste them to see the difference. Why don't the owners get that? And if you're thinking they must have a much lower price, think again. The prices were virtually identical to AKA Friscos, and although probably $1.50 less than Wegmans, the sandwiches are probably 1/2 the size of Wegmans. Anyone who wants to open a sandwich shop needs to take a road trip to Princeton NJ and visit "Hoagie Haven" on Nassau Street. Yes, there's always a line out the door--there has been for oh, 40+ years. Copy those subs in your sandwich shop and you won't be able to count the money coming in fast enough. But, alas, no one seems to bother... Here's hoping the owner reads this and makes a few adjustments--quick! read more
