Came here for breakfast and coffee, per daughter's request. The area is very nice. Urbana has a lot of new spots in the area, so it was nice to check out. Pumpernickle and Rye is a small stand alone spot. Plenty of parking in the back, with back entry. They have a few tables set up outside also. When we walked up, we were immediately greeted. There were a few tables available, and some seating ny the front windows, which is where we sat. My daughter ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel and I had an everything bagel with cream cheese. They had some decent options, including coffee. I went with the smores latte, which was yummy. And my daughter had a caramel frappe, which she also enjoyed. Overall, nice spot for locak breakfast and coffee and the service was great as well.

Neat little place with some indoor seating serving delicious food and some local goods (local honey, art, wine, etc). The sandwiches are all so good and filling, and the workers are all very nice! They have a lot of options and even include gluten free bread which is some of the best I have had. Definitely recommend this spot for breakfast, lunch, etc. Worth the stop and I stop every time in the area.

Latke Browns - one a little overcooked

Quick visit on a Saturday morning for a late breakfast. Their online ordering system was easy to use and straight forward. Upon arrival, our order was ready to go. I had ordered a Boylan's cherry coke online and was disappointed to find they only had the classic coke in stock (I wouldn't have ordered that if they didn't have the cherry coke). The bagels themselves were good! It's hard to go wrong with a classic bagel sammie and they have some creative items on the menu. We ordered the latke browns which were really unique but one of our orders of them was really overcooked and too hard. It's also a tad pricey for a bagel breakfast. Overall still a pretty great breakfast!

Worst bagel I've got. They clearly don't know what over medium means. The egg is clearly fried to the max when I clearly stated in instructions to put it over medium. I will not be back. Way too expensive for what it is.

So yummy I love the sandwich options and I always order online for pickup and they make it easy to do customizations!

Had a Classic Breakfast Sandwich - Egg (scrambled) + Cheese (provolone) + Turkey Sausage on a Brioche. You choose the bread, cheese, and how you want your egg done (I like). As this was during breakfast time, for a drink I had the Honey Cinnamon Latte. Both the sandwich and latte were great, and service was quick. When I ordered the drink, they asked what milk I wanted, and I said whatever comes with it. They asked again and so I said Almond milk. What they failed to mention was that what I chose was extra $ - it would have been nice to know that when I put in my order, as a heads up. Lots of parking is available in the back but seems to be shared with other businesses. I will check them out again as I liked what I had. Visited November 2024

    One dining space.

Our team swung by today. I ordered a soup and a turkey slider. The slider was dry. I also got a vanilla latte which turned out to be a treat. I was a little jealous of my colleagues sandwiches, especially the hot roast beef.

Really love the interior with the wooden signs along with the space and merchandise. The menu has great names for their items like Sir Dips A lot. They have a lot of FOH staff but I only saw a couple of employees in the back. Perhaps this could improve their QC and timeliness? Overall, it's a great place to get breakfast or lunch if you're not in a hurry. The breakfast items look really good and the bagel my sandwich was on was fantastic. The location is great and they have outdoor seating and it's located right next to the shops.

We had Smokey & the Bandit (smoked brisket) and a kind of a big dill (Dill Egg Salad) sandwiches. So delicious- we also ordered latke's with tomato jam. The owner and his family were there- really nice people. I also got a growler of kombucha! I'm pumped to try it, I've never bought it by the growler before. The atmosphere was nice and relaxing- we'll definitely be back!

*Sigh* Things have changed here and the last few times we visited, it was disappointing. I used to always get their lox bagel but stopped because their salmon changed. It used to be a beautiful fresh color (made in house) and then they switched it to what looks like grocery lox. Not sure if that was a one off or what but since then, I started getting other sandwiches which are always a solid 3.5/5. This last time we got their fried chicken sandwich + chicken tenders +chicken soup and the chicken was extremely dry across all 3 items. We wound up throwing out the tenders. On top of the quality, the prices are very high. In total, we got 2 sandwiches, 2 large soups, 1 small soup, 1 kids tender meal, and 2 drinks for $81. Hopefully things improve, but for now we'll likely choose somewhere else to go.

We tried two sandwiches: 1. OY VEY ALL DAY: chunks of super flavorful and juicy in-house-brined and smoked pastrami. With HEX Ferments kraut all piled high on freshly baked marble rye. I originally grew up in the NYC area and this is flat out the best pastrami sandwich I've had outside of NY/NJ. It's the best pastrami in the DMV region, on par with the BBQ pastrami at Monks in Purcellville, VA. 2. NOTORIOUS P.I.G.: fennel-roasted pork shoulder, broccoli rabe, provolone, garlic aioli on ciabatta. The pork is the star here and was excellent. Amazing sandwiches here. Look forward to coming back.

I have been enjoying Pumpernickel and Rye's amazing sandwiches ever since they opened! There hasn't been a bad experience here, staff is amazing, friendly, fast helpful. Don't Go Bacon my heart is my all time favorite sandwich from them. But every sandwich is delicious or you can make your own, whatever you want, it will be good. If you have not checked them out, please do. You will not be disappointed. It is located in a nice spot with plenty of parking and patio space, this is one of the most welcoming places for a nice breakfast or lunch, amazing atmosphere.

Not very Common for a market!!…read more Everything here is exceptional. I love all the fruit, I literally just ate a peach and was so compelled to write about it. The staff, while is mostly comprised of college age hippies are knowledgeable and actually care. The whole store is very clean and the meat counter while very small screams old school home made!! The sausages looked so good I had to buy some, and after cooking them up with some onions and peppers my neighbors above me who are vegans were peeking as they chewed their grass and had to rethink their decisions on eating food that my food eats. There are fresh made sandwiches that they will press for you and give it that grilled awesomeness that only comes when your doing something special with meat and cheese and good bread pressed with 400 degrees of steel resulting in a sandwich that makes you want to light a subway franchise on fire. Now on my most recent trip, covid is rampantly knocking off people so a lot of the fun stuff has been put away. Normally they have fresh cooked food that you can box up hot and take and eat. The selection ranges from American favorites like loaf of meat and spaghetti to Indian food to soups and salads ( spinach salad is good, the dressing makes it the bomb dot com ) and fresh cookies and breads oh my. ( Public Notice: no lions or tigers ) You will spend more money per item here than Walmart. They don't have as good of a selection as Wegman's. They don't have a coupon app thingy that makes you think your saving money like everyone else. But you will feel like your saving baby seals and once you leave and start to load stuff into your vehicle a rabbit will wink at you in a attempt to say thank you. The lesson here is pay more money for food that tastes like food and not canned crap. Yes, we all like to save money, and that's noble. But there is a time to eat your extra long chili cheese coney ( much love sonic ) and there is a time to bite into a peach and feel like your a little kid again and have wonderful sweet juice roll off your chin and life is once again, is worth living. Stay hungry my friends, - JW

Sandwiches can no longer be made to order. In fact, nothing is made to order anymore. Basically it went from being like chipotle, where you get your fresh ingredients the way you want them, to being like Taco Bell, where everything is already done when you get there and if you don't like it, that's your problem. This used to be such a great place for gluten-free eaters. Now if I want a gluten-free bagel, the only thing I am allowed to have on it is cream cheese. Period. I won't eat here anymore.
