I was there today with my Aunt Janet. I had cream chip beef over biscuits with eggs over easy and home fries. My aunt had sausage gravy over home fries. Everything was excellently done and the food was very tasty. They serve breakfast all day long, which is a bonus in my book. read more

Sweetie, if you have a Yelp friend who gave this place less than 3 stars, it's time to unfriend them. Their opinion is worth nothing. And Sugar, if you don't like being called, Honey, this is not the diner for you. This place is great with some prompt, friendly, home cooked food and service. I had a perfectly cooked breakfast and a great slice of pie. My coffee was kept full and the place is warm and decorated for the holidays. Seemed like a good stream of locals and old timers enjoying the food as well. The menu was the typical diner selections you would expect with a full special board and it looks like they serve beer as well. Went back a 2nd time... Service still friendly, coffee still kept full, sausage patty still good. Had two different egg orders though which were both overdone, cooked to a brown bottom. (cheese omelet and scrambled eggs). I'd skip both of those next time. They'd probably pack a few more people in if they just painted their sign and took down the plastic "restaurant open" sign that looks like it has been there since the motel went away. I mean, they're competing with a giant candy cane signed diner next door and a Bob Evans across the street. At least put a little effort into the appearance. Who knows, maybe that is intentional to keep if for those who know it is worth visiting. read more

Went here today for lunch. The lady was really nice but I know why there wasn't anyone of color in there. Fried party wings too salty string beans (canned and bland) taste like lemon juice. I don't know why the French fry is there. Didn't ask for it I've never seen potato salad like this in my life. Besides the weird crap in it ie: carrots it was watery as heck and the chunks of celery were huge way too many and nasty. How does one make potato salad without eggs or relish?! This is NOT potato salad. Periodt!!! I asked for sweet tea. Got back at work and it too was bland and unsweetened. Not what I asked for. Paid $2.25 for a 6oz cup to go but in-house are free refills of a 12 oz cup. The roll was the only digestible item which I only bit to put something on my stomach with the water. I waisted almost $15 on this horrible food. The water not included but ended up being lunch today. If the order isn't what was requested than it's wrong. This place can't afford to get the order wrong especially when the food is disgusting. Don't waist your time or money. I should have gotten Popeyes. At least I wouldn't be hungry and feeling taken advantage of. I could've donate that money to a worthy cause. If you want to go back to the 50s - really - you'll want to stop here. It has true ambiance. The air conditioning blowing on you, and the seats in the booths that need new springs. But ti gives the place charm. The menu items are very simple and you'll get what you expect --- this isn't gourmet food, it's just food. But, good food. Hard to describe ---- nothing fancy. If you want a straight forward meal with nothing fancy, you'll be satisfied. I had a steak half-sub, lima beans, and fried (nice hot crinkle cut) - then some homemade banana cake which was delicious. Iced tea for dinner, coffee with the cake . . . the bill was $18. Nice retired lady serving tables; God love her . . . all part of the ambiance, especially as she fought with the cashier to change the tape. Almost forgot to mention the cigarette machine --- empty with an inspection sticker from the mid 1990s! Final note ---- you just have CASH . . . . no credit cards, no checks. I love Massers been coming here my whole life. They always have great food. Breakfast happens to be my favorite. Nothing like homemade home fries and gravy. They have the absolute best homemade food around. Your coffee is always kept full and the staff is great Sharrel is the best waitress she's absolutely gorgeous inside and out I always looks forward to seeing her there. Stopped in for lunch. Old fashioned restaurant with a counter and booths with table service. Server was friendly and prompt. The menu was small town home cooked food, nice variety of sandwiches and entrees. In the mood for diner food so my husband ordered a hot roast beef sandwich, which came with a generous portion of pot roast style beef sandwiched between two slices of white bread plus a big scoop of mashed potatoes. Delicious brown gravy covered all. I had the hamburger steak served as above without the bread, plus green beans. Everything was good and nice and hot! Coffee was diner coffee (okay) but they were able to make an Arnold Palmer for Tom. All in all, just right for our quick stop in Frederick MD. Note: when's the last time you saw a cigarette machine? To address the concerns of Phill Y, Masser's isn't a place for people who find Bob Evans an acceptable place to drop good money on over priced food out of a commercial plastic bag. Suddenly it makes sense that you're from a charmless craphole like Philly. Drag your metrosexual casual dining loving butt back there, you'll be happier at an Applebee's. For everyone else, Frederick has several diners, most are good, but Masser's is the king! The creamed chipped beef is great and you're not gonna go wrong having it served over home fries that are, get this, potatoes that have been cut and fried in house! The prices are absurdly affordable, (grilled cheese and chips for $2.70!). The authentic diner experience is one that is dying in America sadly and Frederick is so lucky to have Masser's, a place where you can actually get home cooked food at a reasonable price. As far as Wang C's concern about no credit cards being taken, it says right on the door no credit cards or checks Blame yourself for not reading the sign. read more

Down-home restaurant. I have only eaten breakfast here and it has always hit the spot. The dining room has a counter, booths and some tables. It's small, it's not updated, it's not a chain. The service is friendly. Sometimes it's slow, but only if the place is crowded. My breakfast meal has been decent, good coffee, the home fries are crispy and delicious and best of all, the price is right. Yep, it's cash only, but it says that on the door as you walk in....plenty of chains nearby if you prefer that kind of atmosphere and need to use a credit card. read more

Slowest diner I've ever been to. Took me 30 minutes to get my food on a take out. And all I had were eggs and bacon. But the kicker is that the styrofoam container they used was so poor, that my food melted right through it. Prices are VERY reasonable. A burger, a blt, coffee, iced tea, and spectacular coconut cake came to just under 18.00 including tax. We tipped above that. STAY AWAY!! RUN FOREST, RUN!!! I try hard to be fair but you really need to be warned about this place. First of all the place is an eye sore to look at from the outside. It really looks like one of those places that you always drive by but never consider stopping at. I don't know why I ever went here; I guess I got fooled by some of the 5 star reviews about this place here on Yelp. FYI: Those 5 star reviews are bogus! If you ever actually go into this place, pull up some of those 5 star reviews while you're sitting in there and read them, you will laugh so hard. I feel like such a sucker for ever going here. First, no credit/debit cards are accepted, really? When you mention anything about paying with a card they act like they think paying with plastic is against their religion or something. Tomorrow starts the year 2013 and this place hasn't had an upgrade since 1950. To say that it's "run down" both inside and out would be a complete understatement. I had a horrible experience across the board, but here's a few of the issues: old hard food caked up all over the kids high chairs that were positioned against the wall, dirty tables when we sat down, dirty silverware and dirty cups (the coffee mugs are plastic and they make the coffee taste like plastic), old food on the floor under our table i.e. a nasty old pancake, horrible service (that wonderful waitress that the first reviewer talked about only came back to our table when we waived and called her), the waitress told me that the place is well known for their "shit on a shingle," my wife didn't appreciate that back woods description for cream chip beef. The food was some of the worst I've ever eaten. The Bob Evans across the street sucks too but I'd go there any day before I ever even considered coming back here. read more
