Went to Rockport for the day and ended up here for lunch on a whim. The cup of clam chowder was really good. The lobster roll was good. It didn't have a lot of mayo which is what I prefer, but it did have a little bit too much black pepper in it. One of my friends got the fried clams and another got the fish and chips. It seems like the fried clams were the best of the meals. The view was great and the service was pretty good. read more

Sounds like the food and service have gotten a bit better since it's opened... The only issue that we had was that the waitress took forever to come collect the bill. You do want to get paid, right? I had to ask for another water, too. Anyway, Boyfriend ordered the surf and turf which was a tiny filet mignon (tiny but good) and a choice of 4 shrimp or scallops. He chose the shrimp and those were good, too. I ordered the lobster roll and it had 3 or 4 whole claws in it and was light on the mayo, which is always nice. I wandered into 7th Wave with my family after a day of crawling over the rocks. We were in search of a place with a terrific view of the harbor and thought that the rooftop would be just right. The food was just ok. Nothing to really rave about. I tried a little of everyone's dish, ranging from seafood to chicken to pasta, and nothing was bad. It just wasn't that great either. The view was absolutely terrific though. Its worth going just to watch all of the sailboats go in and out. read more

Go for the view, not for the food or drinks. No vegetarian entrees at all. Fish entree we ordered was super undercooked and mostly inedible - I needed a steak knife to cut it. Lobster roll was way overpriced, considering the market price of lobster at the time. Side of fries was small - about 15 medium-cut fries in a dish - so don't count on sharing it if you're hungry. Nice view. The staff was very friendly and the service was great. However, the food was pretty sad. We ordered the coconut shrimp to share. It was clearly frozen. I had the fish and chips. The fries were good. The fish was two pieces that were thin and overlooked. I suspect they were also frozen. My friend had the salmon and she said it was OK. We stopped in for a late lunch and split the calamari and mussels. The mussels were decent - not great, but not bad, and a generous portion for the price. The calamari was cooked REALLY well, but completely devoid of any seasoning whatsoever. We dropped into this tourist cafe recently in search of a cocktail. We were politely informed that the state law required a food order along with our drinks. It was very easy to oblige and we enjoyed a very pleasant basket of fried clams while we looked over the water and discussed the topics of our day. Service was exceptional by a young woman from Rockport that attends the University of Vermont. I grew up not far from Bearskin Neck and I always visit these old stomping grounds when I return to New England for a visit. Needless to say, I'll return to The 7th Wave next time I'm on the North Shore. Great job, folks! And the view is gorgeous! read more

A few weeks ago, my friends and I ended up wandering the streets of Rockport in search of dinner. We decided on the 7th Wave because it had a nice view of the water, a seafood menu, and didn't look too touristy, although I have to wonder if anything in Rockport *isn't* touristy. The dining room, little more than an enclosed patio, was pleasant and uncrowded. The waitress was very friendly, even though she forgot our drinks. I thoroughly enjoyed my seafood and corn chowder but I can't say that I loved my curried shrimp and rice. The shrimp was very good but the rice, curry sauce and presentation left something to be desired. B---- was not crazy about his chicken, either, but perhaps that was his fault for ordering fowl in a seafood restaurant. C----, however, practically made love to her lobster roll. All told, dinner wasn't bad but it was not worth even close to the eighty dollars we paid. We went elsewhere for dessert. read more

Who? A party of 10 When? Dinner I arrived 10 minutes late and all my friends were seated already, so i'm not sure how long the wait was. The appetizers came right out as i sat down and they were amazing- from succulent cocktail shrimp to lightly battered calamari to Tuna Poke. What is Tuna Poke you ask? Tuna Poke (tuna tar tar) is delicious... you will have to go and try it yourself to find out more. For the main course, I know i wanted seafood but not your typical seafood...so I ordered the Curried Shrimp and it was the perfect choice. More succulent shrimp covered in a sweet/spicy curry (not your typical Indian curry though) with rice and fried plantains on the side. Dessert was this fried dough concoction with ice cream on top... that was gone in a second. Service was great and attentive for a party of 10 and nothing was missed. Also had the curried shrimp as an entre, and the sause was ok. Nothing great. I would say the calamari was the best part of the meal. read more

Did a shoot in Gloucester with my favorite production assistant Susie and we headed to Rockport for site seeing and lunch. We found 7th wave and the rest is history. We sat upstairs but it got colod so we sat inside. Both the upper deck and dining room were nice, family friendly and seaportish. You want seaportish with seafood trust me. I had a cup of clam chowder which was thick and good, and susie and I split an appetizer that was good but escapes me at the moment. We then split the fried oysters which were hella good. This place had opened the day before and they already had a fan. All the food was great and we left pretty full and pretty happy. When in Rockport catch the seventh wave, it breaks off to the right and then is on the left on Tuna Wharf. Tell them Skippy sent you. read more

Despite some of the bad reviews, I went anyway. Not really in agreement with most of the bad reviews, the clam chowder was pretty good, I have had better. One review was spot on, with the clam scam, the presentation of the fried clams makes it so it looks that there's more than there really is, since there's a lot of fries. My main complaint was the lack of dressing on the Caesar salad. I personally recommend the fish & chips. I also recommend going there, although the prices are a bit high for what it is. read more

Wasn't too bad. Upstairs deck offers fantastic views. You are in a tourist trap of an area, so for that it wasn't too expensive nor was the food awful. Service was good, drinks were decent. I would go back. Just don't drive too close to it, you should walk from where you park. They have no parking. read more

After trying to get in for lunch at "My place by the Sea" and being told they couldn't let me in with swim attire (a tank top And sports shorts (12:30 in the afternoon, they clearly expect prom attire to enter), my friend and I went to 7th wave and I am So happy we did. We Tried something new. We only went to My place by the sea for the VIEWS, not for the service or prices. I have to say 7th Wave has it ALL. If they hadn't sent me away for my shirts and tank top, I would of never tried this GEM of a restaurant. The service was fabulous here. Everyone was SMILING and HAPPY, pleasant and welcoming (which was never the case Over "there"). The menu was great and we didn't know where To start so we Ended up sharing a few things. The goat cheese and spinach salad (they split it up for us) and it was very flavorful and was heaping with Spinach, cranberries, nuts, feta, they didn't skimp out on any of it and then the fish and chips, Which was perfectly lightly fried so it didn't lose the fish to it. We both raved about how it may be the BEST fish and chips we have ever had. If you like fish and chips, it's a must try . The food was fantastic and my Bloody Mary was so fabulous. We loved the patio upstairs and had great views. We were pleasantly surprised and will Be returning next weekend. This will Be our new spot.... Thank you for such a great experience, welcoming us with open arms after not being allowed in down the road, and I applaud you for having wonderful, happy, enthusiastic, engaging staff And service and for keeping it real. It takes a very good owner and or manager to keep everything flowing. Great job! We were so excited to sit by the water and have a nice lunch. Unfortunately from the second we sat down it was a continuous down hill slide. After seated, we waited over 15 minutes and had to ask if we even had a waitress. A few minutes later our waitress finally showed up. We ordered our meal. Clearly stating we'd start with side salad and chowder. ONE of our main meals arrived... before everything else!! We told the server we never got our apps and she said the rest would be out soon. It just made no sense. Our waitress never checked in, we needed to find her to get refills on our drinks. We noticed the table next to us got garlic bread with their clams , so my husband requested his because it was not given. (He got the same meal). He received a buttered hotdog bun cut into pieces... and we were then charged for! Our food was dry and bland. We were disappointed from beginning to end. The food was mediocre at best, our waitress was terrible and took forever to finally bring additional drinks and then the check and never checked in throughout. The best part of the afternoon was the hostess. She was sweet and spot on with her estimated wait time. Unfortunately nothing else about this restaurant was worth it. Amazing!!! I hate to see the awful reviews here and quite frankly don't think I went to the same restaurant as the other reviewers. My boyfriend and I drove up there on a Sunday afternoon and after looking at a few different places settled on this one even after seeing the less than desirable reviews on here. The ambiance is perfect - not too high end, not too local yocal. Ocean view, roof deck patio. They have the best bloody mary's I've ever had, the steamers were spot on, the fried scallops... OMG!! Drool! Lobster ravioli - nailed it. Clam chowder... This chef is obviously a New Englander. Our waitress was super friendly and the bathrooms impeccable. Go! Eat! Drink! And ride the wave!! And remember that if it's busy, cut them some slack... It'll be worth it! read more

This place has an amazing view of the harbor. But that's the only thing going for it. Do not go here. I do not work for a competitor. I have nothing to gain from criticizing this place, but I do so as a community service. You will think this place is good from the looks of it, but the long line and wait is just for the location. Here's our story: My friends and I waited for two hours for a seat. When we finally sat down, our table - which was plastic, something you'd have on your deck - was dirty. Grimy even. When we pointed this out to the waiter, he said, No, it's not, it's just stained. We rubbed some of the grime off on our napkins to show him, then he cleaned it. But not well. We got drinks margaritas that were expensive and bad. Our friend asked three times for extra limes for her soda. We ordered oysters that were OK, and calimari that literally came with marinara sauce. It was atrocious. We were planning on staying for dinner, but left after that. read more

We went for a late lunch on Labor Day 2011. When we got there, there was no line, but we had to wait a few minutes before being seated. I don't mind waiting, but I didn't like it that waitstaff and the hostess passed us by several times without acknowledging our presence. We sat downstairs, as there was a 20 -25 min wait for the upstairs deck. The view through the large picture windows was very nice, and this was definitely the best thing the restaurant has going for it. The waitress took our order, but we had to wait a fairly long time before our beverages were served. It was a warm day and we were both parched. We finally got our drinks, and I was disappointed that my Diet Pepsi was fairly flat, but too thirsty to risk sending it back and having to wait awhile for a replacement. My wife ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which she enjoyed. I ordered the tuna bacon melt. It was OK, but the tuna salad had far too many chopped onions. I do like onions, but these really overwhelmed the flavor of the tuna. It was cooked properly and the french fries were OK. The ketchup had a different flavor. It came from a Heinz bottle, though the labels on the bottle looked fairly old. I would not be surprised if it were not Heinz ketchup that had been added to the bottle. I had to wait until the waitress came to bring the check before I was offered a drink refill. My glass had been empty for quite some time at that point. Seriously beautiful views of the water. Surprised to see only 3 stars- my boyfriend was in love with his poutine, and I had a really nice glass of wine and a classic grilled chicken sandwich. Fantastic service! I went with a friend for a late lunch and we were seated immediately, ordered promptly, and had both our food and checks in a timely, but unrushed manner. The location is fantastic and I recommend sitting on the upper patio to get a great view with your meal. I split a lobster roll and a bowl of clam chowder with my friend, both were reasonably priced for the area. I don't seafood often, but I believe the clam chowder was solid taste-wise. Everyone else seems to be complaining about the prices...maybe I've lived in New York too long, but I didn't think the prices were that bad, especially since it is an extremely touristy area. My mom and I go to Rockport for a day every summer. Each year, we eat at a different restaurant. I actually think the 7th Wave is far better than it's predecessor, though I can't remember the name. It's also the best restaurant we've eaten at in Rockport. We came around 2 pm and there was a line, but everyone was seated promptly. The upstairs was full, so we sat by a window downstairs. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Salad, which was excellent. Extra points for grilled, not fried, chicken. My mom got the Spinach and Feta Cheese salad, which she really enjoyed. We also split fries -- good call on our part. I had a Raspberry Lime Ricky. I haven't had one in years, nor have I had one with alcohol, so it was a nice treat. Very refreshing. Service was pretty good, though our server only spoke to me, not my mom, when asking if we were all set/about the check, which we both found sort of amusing/weird. Will probably stick to this place when in town because we've had some bad experiences in the past. read more

If I could dole out a zero-star review, I would. My husband and I went to 7th Wave because the menu seemed so enticing. He had been hankering for a good steak and I was in the mood for some seared tuna. After ordering, I took a sip of the water and found it tasted so much like bleach, it was undrinkable. I figured that it showed that they cared about hygiene so I didn't think much of it. Until the entrees showed up. My "peppercorn tuna with Mediterranean salad" was so encrusted with peppercorns that it heated my mouth to the second ring of Hell and I lost any notion that I was also eating tuna. I really may as well have just sat under a pepper mill with my mouth open. The alluring "Mediterranean salad" it was served on top of was a mix of tomatoes, red onions, and cheap feta cheese. And, that was not the worst of it. My husband's entree, a $25 steak that he had requested to be cooked at medium, came so well-done that it was difficult to cut. We called the waitress over to show her and requested another steak. I also ordered a tea. While we waited, I took the time to start scraping my tuna free of peppercorns to make it edible. About 15 minutes later, the steak arrived. Again, well done. The waitress came back over to check on us, we showed it to her, and she said, "Oh, I think I see some pink." We decided to make the best of it because we were there to "relax," so we finished our meal. When we got our bill, I saw that she'd added that tea (which she had never brought), so I called her over to have it taken off. She said, "Oh, you want it taken off?" She even went over to another waitress to complain that I wanted it removed from the bill. Luckily, that waitress was armed with logic and I heard her say, "Well, you do have to take that off." (At the time that we went--7pm--there was only one other party of five dining with us. Despite that, they waited so long for their food that the waitress gave them free chowder. But only two cups to share between the five of them.) This was, undoubtedly, the VERY WORST service, food, and overall dining experience we've ever had. read more

Very disappointed in the food, over priced menu and new management. Oysters were small, lots of shell bits inside and the lobster was tough. They charge 5 dollars for grilled cheese that is served alone, no side, no drink. Drinks are two dollars each for juice, and they are served in little plastic cups that you find at the water bubbler in your office. The food took a long time to get to our table even though it was not busy. Manager was unaccommodating and unpleasant to speak with. Upon leaving I overheard another group of disappointed patrons who were making comments about how young the chefs were in the kitchen. Everyone has to start somewhere, but you can't be charging prices as a well established restaurant. Will never go back. read more

So disappointing - we should have went to Roy Moore. The clam chowder was a mega disappointment - it was not hot and it was really stingy on the clams. I got a cup, and I only had about 3 measly little clams in there. Mussels were decent, but the bread that came with it was pretty gross. My husband didn't care for his ahi tuna. My experience was so bad at this place that I decided to take the time and energy to write my first review of a restaurant to help protect the innocent. Our waitress had the personality of a wet mop when we went on a Saturday evening to begin our first impression of the not so fine establishment we thought it would be....This young waitress was impolite and behaved like she was doing us a favor by serving us. She was just simply rude, rude, rude. Menu selection was also poor in choice. Neighboring restaurants have it all over this place in the Seafood and Steak selection. The lack of experience behind the scenes clearly shows in the service and food that comes out. They don't seem to spend time on training their staff properly and weeding out the ones that are bad-for-business. Good help must be hard to find these days. It just was not worth the trip.....Only thing they've got going for it is the view of the harbor....and they can't mess that up - I think...... read more

Extremely disappointing. Where to begin, service was bad, we had to ask for silverware and we ordered water with lemon. We had to ask for lemons twice. We ordered a shrimp cocktail, priced ok but shrimp were average at best, small and watery. Our meal arrived and we had to remove the appetizer dish ourselves. My wife and split the swordfish. It arrived hard as a rock, we barely could eat it. We were so hungry we ate it anyway. Normally, we would have brought this to their attention but given how things went so far we decided to cut our losses and leave and pay. The food seemed previously frozen and old frankly and there are other great options to choose from in Rockport. The view is great and perhaps the lobster is better but go someplace else for fresh food. Great location, inconsistent and lowsy food. read more
