A group of us were staying at the Holiday Inn Express next door. We got in a little late (close to…read moremidnight) and we were looking to get into some shenanigans. Nautilus to the rescue. Not sure where they got the beach bar theme, as there is no ocean within hundreds of miles. Wishful thinking perhaps. The tables were made of surfboards, and there were loads of tiki decorations to fit the bill. The bartender said that Bud Light was on special ($2), but I figured that being in the middle of nowhere, they had to have some good deals. "What do you have in bottle?" I asked the bartender. "Import or domestic?" She asked in return. "Ummm... Import." "Well we have Dos Equis, Shiner, Corona, Land Shark..." "Ill just do the Bud Light." I interrupted. I figured that since half of the beers she had named thus far were American (one of them Texan) it might be safer just to make it easy on her. They had a stage, but no music that night. Well, aside from long lost "hits" from the 90's- a little "I'm Gonna Be (500 miles)" anyone? Didnt think so. They had an electronic dart board (one set of darts), a Fusbol and a pool table. We were able to entertain ourselves as well as the yokels, until 2 am when they closed. It was one of those places where you get- "Yer not from round here are ye?" A lot. But they were fun. I was a little worried that there might be a fight, as the attention of the two "girls" that were in the bar, were quickly diverted from said yokels, to us. Thankfully, there was no fight. I think thats because Kevin, the head hillbilly, kept falling down and had to leave. I still have Kevin's bitchin american flag lighter that he dropped during one spill. Thanks Kevin. If your in the area, check out the Beach bar. Do not make a special trip.

We recently visited Brewdawgz Grille & Ale and quickly learned from their friendly, hometown staff…read more- don't let the name fool you. Brewdawgz is more than just beer and hotdogs. Though, they have those too. This under-discovered Kerrville Grille is offering up some of the best and freshest, homemade food in Kerrville. And, it's 5 page menu offers an amazing selection. For starters, they have an impressive list of appetizers - real homemade Fried Mushrooms, Onion Rings, Chili Cheese Fries, Shrimp Diablo, Southwest Eggroll, Wings (7 flavors and the size they use to be in the good old days), the best Cheese Curds I have ever tasted and many more. Their menu also offers - delicious meaty burgers (12 choices), salads, chicken, steaks, fish, BBQ; and oh yes, hotdogs. I liked the New York Dawg with grilled onions and sauerkraut. We can also recommend the Double Brew Burger. It's a full pound of lean burger topped with avocado, mushrooms, bacon, cheese, etc - made to order. Take home what you don't eat. It makes great leftovers. The Ribeye Steak Sandwich is also a good choice. They serve it cooked and dressed anyway you like it, on a real Brioche Bun. That's a real Brioche Bun. Not what fast-food restaurants want us to believe are "brioche buns". One taste and you will know to difference - soft, warm and pillowy (if that is a word) Brewdawgz's BBQ is perfectly seasoned, lean or moist with a great smoke ring - not too smoky and not dry or overcooked. BBQ sauce is truly optional here. BBQ is sold by the sandwich (7 choices), as loaded potatoes or by the pound. On special occasions/holidays, Brewdawgz serves BBQ beef ribs. These are a must try - big, smoky, meaty and rich. And, you don't have to go the San Antonio or Boerne to snag one. As for refreshments, 14 beers on draft (I liked the Dogfish 90 IPA or Firemans 4), 11 beers and ciders by the bottle, wine as well as soft drinks and tea. And finally desert, Cheesecake or Carrot Cake which they serve by the wedge. Not a little sliver, but a real wedge of cake. Highly recommend the Carrot Cake. Best we have ever had; and, will judge all others by in the future

I have met many friendly locals here, and had the honor of shooting some rounds with some pros around here. The service has always been pretty fast, and the prices are probably one of the best in town. The only issue is you will leave smelling like an ashtray. So not so sure on the ventilation system ... but willing to look the other way for the great vibes here. Also, watch out for the big pothole when you enter the parking lot and drive slowly to avoid car issues. The jams were on point and a wide variety of all genres. This is a great spot to chill on a Friday night if you're trying to avoid Main street and drunken "woo woo" girls.

This place was walking distance from our hotel and had a good reviews so we decided to check it out! Definitely a dive bar that's well known and visited by locals. This is not a touristy stop by any means and I am oh so appreciative it is not! Pools tables available. Drinks are served cold and the bartenders are amazing! It is smokey, so smoking may be permitted (not sure). Nothing fancy, a total dive, and just a great place to have a cold drink and watch the game or meet some locals. If you want a place that's low key, away from all the tourists places, with good drinks this is the place to visit.
