Our server, Fatima, was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, and when asked, she provided excellent recommendations that genuinely improved our dining experience. Now, the food is simply outstanding. For our appetizer, we ordered Oysters Rockefeller. We had filet mignon as our entree, and it was cooked to perfection, tender, and full of flavor. Every bite melted in my mouth. The sides were just as impressive--perfectly seasoned and served hot. We ordered creamed spinach and lobster mac and cheese. You can tell that every dish is prepared with care and attention to detail. We also enjoyed the meal's overall pacing. Came here on a Saturday night making a reservation the day before so the only timeslot we got was for 8:30 PM dining. Got sat down and our waiter shared the specials. We ordered the pasta entrée as an appetizer to split with a chopped wedge salad. The wedge was standard I would say. The pasta I forget which one had a vodka sauce, and the scallops are cooked perfectly. For my entrée, I had the bone in prime rib that I had blackened and chard for extra flavor in this is the only way I would have my prime rib. They cooked it perfectly too exactly what I had asked for And I would also say that there prime quality of beef is one of the best that I've had compared to other steakhouses that also use prime beef. The service was very good. Also, I would suggest if you'd like to eat soufflés to put it in early so you don't have to wait too long at the end of the Dinner The only critique I would say for this restaurant is that when you expect to pay a four $$$$ high-end dining a restaurant needs to be spectacular in every aspect. Where they did fall short is that their restroom was not maintained and kept clean. There were paper towels littered all over the floor and the trashcan overflowing. We decided very last minute, before a concert to try this place out. Totally impressed. I have heard great things, so I am happy we finally tried this place out. Atmosphere is intimate, high back booths so it is a great date night option. It was a little louder than Capital Grille but not too loud considering it's a prime location near all the concert venues with at least 2 concerts going on. Service was pretty great. Drinks were good. Many great menu options. I opted for the surf n turf. My first medallion was overcooked for medium but I am not one to send anything back. I am certain they would have been accommodating though if I did. My second medallion was absolute perfection, as was the perfectly cooked scallop. Definitely a meal you will want time to savor. Each bite was really an experience. If you are going to a concert I recommend reservations. We were super lucky to get in (not worried about getting to concert on time). MainsPlating on both dishes was gorgeous. My wife's 6 oz filet (ordered medium-rare) came out closer to rare. Still tender and high-quality, but the temperature miss was noticeable. Garlic mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful; the grilled asparagus was unfortunately thick, woody, and surprisingly bland. My 24 oz bone-in prime rib (medium-rare) was cooked perfectly throughout. At the server's recommendation, I had it finished on the grill with extra seasoning. It looked spectacular, vibrant color, beautiful crust. Sadly, the flavor just wasn't there. Severely lacking that deep, beefy punch you expect from a premium cut at this price. The same mashed potatoes were good, and the fresh green beans were spot-on, tender-crisp and bright. My friends and I stopped in for Happy Hour before the Shinedown Concert(7/29).I really wanted the Troon Cocktail, it was so fresh & light and I have thought about it since my first visit a couple months ago. If you like Grapefruit then def try this Cocktail. When you walk into 801 it has a classy vibe. It is a bit dark lighting which makes it feel elegant. I took my husband to 801 Chophouse tonight to celebrate his birthday -- a detail clearly noted on our reservation -- and there was zero acknowledgment of it. We've dined at this location many times a year since they opened, and tonight was by far the most disappointing experience we've ever had. From the moment we checked in, the host's nonchalant attitude set the tone for what became an off night. The service behind the bar was consistently inattentive, especially compared to the guests on either side of us who received warm greetings, handshakes, and enthusiastic attention. We, on the other hand, were largely ignored. Dirty plates from our starter sat in front of us until our entrées arrived. We had to flag down a waitress just to place our dinner order -- while sitting at the bar -- because no one seemed interested in checking on us behind the bar, and they weren't overwhelmed with business. Our prime rib and steak were not cooked to order, and our glasses sat empty throughout the meal. After years of choosing 801 Chophouse as one of our go-to spots, tonight made it clear that the experience has slipped. We should have gone to Capital Grille instead. Went back here for the first time in 14 years. As I am doing the round robin of every steak restaurant in Kansas City, this one was next. Much better than my first experience. I got the wedge salad and strip steak. Both were excellent. I had a tough time deciding between the bone in strip, my favorite cut, or the traditional but decided on the traditional. It was wonderful, beefy, and full of texture. A real surprise was the hash browns. Sounds boring. They're not. They have a large selection of steaks and there's a rolling cart they bring around showcasing the raw meat. We opted to share the prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes, French onion soup and of course, chocolate cake. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender. The mashed potatoes were whipped with garlic and very creamy. The French onion soup was amazing. I'd come back for it alone. And, of course the chocolate cake was fab. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was pretty good. I had a filet and my husband had a Kansas City strip. The filet was not very flavorful but good and the strip was "delicious". The sides were garlic mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus. The mashed potatoes were really creamy and yummy and I like the Brussels sprouts; I did not care for the asparagus. The only room for improvement I thought was that I really wish we were seated at a booth instead of the table we were at. There was a lot of foot traffic and it didn't feel as intimate as some of the other spots and when you're paying what you're paying to eat here you kind of want a perfect experience. I should have asked to be moved, but we had already had to wait (even though we had a reservation) for a table, so I didn't really want to push it with staying out and having a babysitter etc. Overall though, we couldn't have asked for a better server, and the food was worth the big price tag. Went here on a business dinner. Excellent atmosphere, great bar, great wine list and a varying menu of items to choose from. The wines were extremely good. Our glasses never went empty before our waiter had them refilled. Service was top-notch. They show you about eight different steaks and explain the cuts in great detail. Firstly the arrival at the restaurant. We (my older brother and I) arrived (party of two) 45 minutes early for our reservation. The hostess was very accommodating and appreciative that we had arrived and seated us within a few minutes of the arrival. Carlos regaled us with a presentation of the various cuts available for the evening and explained some of the highlights of the specialized meats they offer. 801 does some of the aging in house and offers an array of high quality options such as Wagyu from various parts of the world. The reason we decided on a steakhouse in Kansas City was the reputation of KC to have wonderful steaks. So when in KC you order KC strip (20 oz. Bone in dry aged KC strip to be specific). My brother decided on the bone in Prime Rib. We ordered asparagus and scalloped potatoes as sides. The entire meal was phenomenal!! No better words exist to explain the singularly best meal I have ever had. We ended it with carrot cake and grand marnier soufflé. We ordered the west coast oysters, the jumbo crab cake, ceaser salad and the shrimp cocktail. The special garnish sauce for the shrimp cocktail and oysters is super spicy horseradish heavy which i really liked! Also, this probably was my favorite crab cake that I've ever had! For the mains, I got the snake river farms wagyu cut and it was the perfect amount of marbling!! It was melt in your mouth, but still had a good steak texture and cooked to a perfect medium rare as I ordered it. The desserts also really impressed me! The carrot cake was my favorite. Overall 801Chophouse food was super delicious and made a great night. The only thing negative would be the cost. Even for a fine dinning restaurant, it's a little more on the pricey side! The first woman who assisted us didn't offer water options, and poured us tap water when we wanted sparkling. She did take our order but didn't ask if we had questions, explain any thing etc. Our salad came and was never cleared so when the person who brought the entrees realized we had dirty plates, no silverware etc. they did the best they could to clear everything.
