We came here for a special occasion and the staff decorated our table and made the experience special. The food was amazing and our waiter helped us pick a wine. We loved the steak and sides but felt it was a little overpriced. The Mac and cheese was the best thing we had. The steak was cooked perfectly.

We decided very last minute, before a concert to try this place out. Totally impressed. I have heard great things, so I am happy we finally tried this place out. Atmosphere is intimate, high back booths so it is a great date night option. It was a little louder than Capital Grille but not too loud considering it's a prime location near all the concert venues with at least 2 concerts going on. Service was pretty great. Drinks were good. Many great menu options. I opted for the surf n turf. My first medallion was overcooked for medium but I am not one to send anything back. I am certain they would have been accommodating though if I did. My second medallion was absolute perfection, as was the perfectly cooked scallop. Definitely a meal you will want time to savor. Each bite was really an experience. If you are going to a concert I recommend reservations. We were super lucky to get in (not worried about getting to concert on time). It was packed but we were still in and out within an hour. This was 7 pm though so most concert goers were finishing up as we arrived.

TLDR: 801 Chophouse Kansas City (Downtown) looks stunning, has excellent presentation, great salads/sides/desserts, and a killer Sunday Supper value. But the prime rib was shockingly lacking flavor, the filet came out undercooked, service was polite yet inattentive and slow, and the overall experience didn't justify the high-end price tag. Enjoyable night, but not the 5-star steakhouse splurge we hoped for. My wife and I visited the downtown Kansas City location last night for an early birthday dinner. 6:00 p.m. reservation and we were seated immediately in a cozy booth with a festive Christmas-tree napkin fold, nice holiday touch. Atmosphere is classic upscale steakhouse: dark, dim lighting, white tablecloths. Bread was warm, crusty, and excellent. Cocktails were solid, my top-shelf Old Fashioned was very good, wife's mocktail was tasty. Both ordered the Sunday Supper (salad, entrée, dessert). SaladsThe Caesar was outstanding: crisp romaine, perfect anchovy-garlic dressing, plenty of Parmesan, and an ideal crouton-to-green ratio. One of the better Caesars we've had in KC. MainsPlating on both dishes was gorgeous. My wife's 6 oz filet (ordered medium-rare) came out closer to rare. Still tender and high-quality, but the temperature miss was noticeable. Garlic mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful; the grilled asparagus was unfortunately thick, woody, and surprisingly bland. My 24 oz bone-in prime rib (medium-rare) was cooked perfectly throughout. At the server's recommendation, I had it finished on the grill with extra seasoning. It looked spectacular, vibrant color, beautiful crust. Sadly, the flavor just wasn't there. Severely lacking that deep, beefy punch you expect from a premium cut at this price. The same mashed potatoes were good, and the fresh green beans were spot-on, tender-crisp and bright. Desserts (to-go for the Chiefs game)Sorbet trio (raspberry, plum, blackberry?) was outstanding, bright and intense. Crème brûlée was classic perfection. ServiceFriendly but passively slow and not very attentive. Far from the proactive polish you expect at this level. Bottom line 3.5 starsLooks the part, photographs beautifully, and the Sunday Supper is a steal, but the star proteins fell flat on flavor and service didn't match the price. Good, not great, several KC steakhouses deliver a more memorable splurge for the money. Happy to return for happy hour or bar bites, but for a big celebratory steak dinner I'd go elsewhere.

This restaurant, 801 Chophouse, is renowned for its traditional charm and superior quality, focusing on high-end steaks and classic American steakhouse style. As a chain restaurant, it has locations in multiple cities. The décor is classic, formal, and sophisticated, suitable for business banquets or formal dinners, offering an elegant and upscale dining experience.

My friends and I stopped in for Happy Hour before the Shinedown Concert(7/29).I really wanted the Troon Cocktail, it was so fresh & light and I have thought about it since my first visit a couple months ago. If you like Grapefruit then def try this Cocktail. When you walk into 801 it has a classy vibe. It is a bit dark lighting which makes it feel elegant. The bar area is beautiful, as well as the rest of the restaurant. We sat up at the Bar Top and we were greeted quickly and placed our drink order while we looked over the small bites HH items. I ordered the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail for all of us-it's 1 jumbo shrimp for $4, I also ordered the Grilled Oysters x2, and shared the Sliders x2 & fries with a friend. Hot fresh bread & butter came out while we were waiting for our food. Service was great, the Bartenders kept our water filled and checked on us often. We all enjoyed our small bites and cocktails-a few of us decided on splitting dessert which was fabulous-Chocolate cake. 801 is definitely a restaurant to check out for HH which is Mon-Fri 4pm-6, or for nice delicious meal.

Really cool steakhouse with a lot of options for chicken, seafood, and steak. Service was great and we were a large group and the food came by really quick. Star of the show was the foie gras appetizer and the crab cakes!

I enjoyed an excellent dinner last night at the bar. So wonderful, very impressive dining experience! Service at the bar was attentive, friendly, warm and welcoming, and professional. Food was well executed, just delicious! Bread service was excellent! I had the wet aged petite filet Mignon 8oz. with the au poivre and cognac cream sauce preparation. Oh boy was it good! It melted in my mouth. For a side, I had the scalloped potatoes. Yummy goodness! Though full, I had to go with the Grand Marnier Soufflè, since too few places have soufflés. It's served with a classic cream anglaisse, chocolate, and raspberry sauces. So glad I had dessert! The ambiance has that classical, wood, steakhouse feel that I love and enjoy.

801 years was fantastic! The steak is incredible, drinks were smooth but still the perfect strength. Highly recommend the filet! The only reason it's getting 4 instead of 5 stars is because I asked my server if their rare is real rare and he said yes so I ordered rare plus and when my steak came out medium rare plus he said oh they aren't used to cooking that small of a cut to rare. Would definitely still go back!

As good as it gets! Our first night in town for a conference, and what a perfect way to begin! Outstanding cocktails and impressive wine list, and then there's the food! We loved everything we got, apps, entrées, sides... Classic Steakhouse feel inside, and the service was excellent. Would return in a heartbeat.

This was our first visit to 801 so I wasn't sure what to expect. As other said, this is a smaller chain with prime steaks. They have a large selection of steaks and there's a rolling cart they bring around showcasing the raw meat. We opted to share the prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes, French onion soup and of course, chocolate cake. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender. The mashed potatoes were whipped with garlic and very creamy. The French onion soup was amazing. I'd come back for it alone. And, of course the chocolate cake was fab. It's a pricer place but great for special occasions. They have a few $2k bottles of wine and one that's 4K. The service started off a bit slow but picked up nicely.

We attended a holiday party at 801 chophouse. The atmosphere was nice. The space we were in was a little cramped around some of the tables but was big enough overall. Staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was pretty good. I had a filet and my husband had a Kansas City strip. The filet was not very flavorful but good and the strip was "delicious". The sides were garlic mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus. The mashed potatoes were really creamy and yummy and I like the Brussels sprouts; I did not care for the asparagus. Wedge salad and deserts were just good.

I really enjoy the STL location of 801 (anything they are all amazing) and KC did not disappoint. I went here after work with a colleague. He and I both got steaks and they were amazing. The salad was a very pleasant surprise the peaches really gave it a subtle sweetness that brightened the meal.

Order any steak with bone marrow butter. Won't be disappointed. Wagyu ribeye was phenomenal.

When our people arrived it took her 20 minutes to come to get our orders, eventhough there was no one in the bar but us. She took our order and then it took her 30 more minutes for het to bring over 4 of the 6 drinks ordered. One of our party commented to the person sitting next to her that this bartender was very slow. Apparently she heard this and as the person was tasting her drink, your bartender took it away from her. I tried to get my drink and I was ignored. Then when we decided we weren't going to be served and one of our group heard your bartender say good luck them being served she refused to give the person paying for the drinks a receipt. This behavior was unprofessional at best and it ruined a night thah could have been great.

That waitress walked by us without acknowledging us at all, so I asked the hostess if there was only one waitress working because I wanted to make sure we were not being overlooked. The hostess said she was both seating and waitressing, then walked off. She later brought us waters but did not take our drink order or check in with us. No, this is more of a sit-yourself-down kind of place, instead of being a make-your-way-to-the-bar-for-yet-another-drink kind of place. But they serve up some Joe's Kansas City BBQ, so you know they've got a reason to pull you in. Nothing says Kansas City quite like smoked meats & fabulous sauces, so get comfy & sample a Z-Man. There is plenty else on the menu, but if you're vegan or vegan-ish, then good luck or maybe have a cheat day. The BBQ is fantastic and Ice House has added their own bar & grille twists, so you have options beyond smoked meats. Seating is pretty good, and with both a wraparound bar and table service, there are plenty of options. As is the norm these days, there are screens in all directions, so you just don't miss a single moment of sportsball if that's your jam. P&L is a jammed up place when events are happening, so if you can find yourself a spot to sit and enjoy, then that's a win. County Road offers that and more, and it's only real knock is the service levels, which can be slow at busy times. But hey, if you have a seat and maybe a drink, then wait just a few extra minutes for servers to plow their way through the bar crowd. Definitely worth it for the BBQ alone.
