If you've been, you already know! Ocean Prime is a real treat...if you're willing to shell out some big bucks. I made a reservation in advance which seemed wise in retrospect since the restaurant was quite busy at 7pm. The staff reached out before the reservation to ask about the details of our special celebration. When we showed up they had a nice placard and gave us champagne to help us celebrate! It was a nice gesture by the staff. Our server Adam was too notch, very professional and knowledgeable of the menu. He really made our experience very enjoyable. He even prepared some of our drinks at our table with one hand! Cool guy. Our food was phenomenal, the Chilean Sea Bass was prepared nicely and seasoned lightly with blackend like seasoning. I was surprised at the small portion sizes that came with our dishes. So definitely get the share size sides. The carrot cake dessert was also pretty incredible, very dense and flavor was not so intense. The vibe here is definitely upscale, although their bar had a couple large TVs. Let's start with the service. Very friendly staff from the moment you arrive. The place looks modern, nicely decorated, with a stunning wine wall with great selection to choose from. Food was amazing. We had the Taylor tots with aioli sauce. For main dishes we had the ribeye steak and scallops on a creamy risotto. Everything was delicious and well seasoned. The risotto was slightly salty but not enough to complain about it. It was still very flavorful. Drinks were very good. The dessert, carrot cake, was amazing. Of note, there is a dress code. We got off to a little bit of a rocky start having to wait over 10 minutes for our table past the reservation time. It was very busy. There were lots of birthdays and anniversaries being celebrated. We ordered a couple drinks to start. I ordered The Osprey and she ordered the Berries & Bubbles. The Berries & Bubbles is a fun drink with the dry ice smoke for the visuals. Both of us enjoyed our drinks. We ordered the calamari for the starter. The calamari was great and a good portion size. I ordered the group for my main. It was cooked perfectly. I would've liked a larger portion but it's about the portion size I would expect from a place like this on the fancier side. We shared the warm butter cake for dessert. This was comped for it being our anniversary. The warm butter cake was delicious. I definitely recommend ordering. We also each got a small glass of champagne on the house when our dessert came. We love this chain! This visit was for restaurant week dinner. The front desk staff were warm and friendly on this bitterly cold evening. The server took a while to get to us even though it was early in the evening. He was not very warm or welcoming and had terrible breath. He didn't know what wine was being served on the special RW menu and had to go check. At the end of our meal he asked to bring us our check without the dessert which we had previously ordered. We celebrated my daughter's 30th birthday at OP this past Saturday. The whole experience was fantastic! The reception staff was so friendly. Our table was decorated and they had a card for my daughter waiting. Jamison was our waiter. He did a great job serving the dietary needs to accommodate my daughter's Chron's disease. I've been to Ocean Prime several times but in the past two weeks I've gone twice - it's just that good!! The whole evening is an experience. When you walk in, you're greeted by a reception desk in a cozy room with a beautiful display of wine and comfy chairs in the waiting area. The vibes are immediately warm, cozy, and welcoming. Upon seating, the dining room is decorated beautifully and the low lighting keeps the ambiance going throughout the meal. I would highly recommend ordering the Bubbles & Berries to drink. Not only is it a bubbling beauty, it tastes just as wonderful! This drink alone is an experience and such a fun way to start. For appetizers, I would highly highly recommend the Ahi Tuna Tartare and the Hamachi Crudo. Other wonderful starters are the Warm Bread Service and a sushi roll (we went with the Spicy Tuna). For dinner, recently, I had the Ahi Tuna and the Chilean Sea Bass. Both were wonderful, but my favorite was definitely the Sea Bass. It is so rich and delicious. Those I was with ordered the Sea Scallops (looked incredible), Filets (with different preparations - Maytag Blue Cheese Crust and Black Truffle Butter), and sides of Bacon Creamed Spinach and Jalapeño Au Gratin (all of which I heard were divine). The servers are so kind and knowledgeable. If you have dietary restrictions - not to worry! The servers start the meal asking if there are any they should be aware of and are mindful of this. I've always been too full to try a dessert, but it's on my list to try next time I go! Miso-Chili roasted broccoii** dry, lacking flavor, chewy The booth we sat at was perfect. nice size and comfortable. But we came to see the World Series game and there were two large screen televisions that somehow view was blocked by the bottles at the bar. They should clear out the bottles at least for the game. For my entree, I went with the Grouper (lots of great looking options but I was swayed by the gnocchi) and was far from disappointed. This place is cute. Nothing spectacular but cute nonetheless. My friend and I arrive so that we could go have dinner at the restaurant and decided to have a drink at the bar before we transitioned into the dining room. Unfortunately, the bartender took so long to come to our table, and we just decided that we were going to dine in the bar area. I think he was just new out of training because I had some questions about the menu that he wasn't able to answer, but luckily I was able to navigate the menu myself. When I say the cocktails were amazing I had a paper plane. Next time with the sushi rolls which were very mediocre but good just nothing special. I also ordered calamari which came out extremely overcooked and rubbery. I don't know if it was overcooked or if it was just old, but it definitely had potential to be good because the flavor was amazing. It just wasn't properly cooked. The Brussel sprouts were really good. I ordered a ribeye, medium, rare plus to medium . The only reason why I said, medium rare plus is because it's a seafood restaurant and sometimes they mess up on the steaks and I didn't want it overcook because I know you can always bring a temp up but you can't bring a temp down. Of course, although I ordered a medium rare, plus it came out medium well/well done the slightest amount of pink to grey. We spoke to the server about it he apologized and had it remade. It had to be remade three times and just caused our dining experience to be so long. They finally got the temperature right but by that time we were just so over the dining experience the steak was just under season as well, so we just packed our stuff and left. I had no desire to go back to this restaurant again, but the manager made it right by us and I'm definitely going to give it another try and try to stay just within the seafood realm next go round. Everything was outstanding except the shrimp linguine needs to work on it's texture, I believe angel hair or spaghetti or bucatini would go better with this seasoning and also it needs to be cooked al dente instead of all the way thru. The hamachi was outstanding, pickled mango and seaweed salad went perfectly with the fish. Oysters were fresh and sweet. We devoured them within a few minutes. Salmon belly nigiri came with caviar on top, it was not only visually pleasing, the salmon was really fat, fresh and great size. Went to Ocean Prime KC on a Saturday night. It was pretty busy so I'm glad we made reservations. The service was on point! The waitstaff were attentive, warm and friendly. Our waitress did the perfect ratio of checking on us but also letting us enjoy our date. She also had the best recommendations. Food: this is where one star was taken away. I just wasn't blown away by their A5 wagyu or bone in ribeye. Their meat is wet aged and it may just be a preference thing, I don't know but I didn't care too much for either. They provide lovely sauces on the side to dip the meat in that saved the day but I prefer my meat to be able to stand alone in this caliber of restaurant. However, the lobster tail was great! And the drawn butter stayed warm. The appetizer and sides were the highlight of the night; broccoli, tater tots and deviled eggs to die for. The cocktails and wine selections were good and dessert menu was great as well. We shared a 10 layer carrot cake the was really delicious. Now, the ambiance was what's to be expected of a restaurant of this caliber, very nice! Good for date night, celebrations or what have you . Let's start with the good. The tuna tartare appetizer was fantastic! Delicious and fresh. The horseradish cream and fresh avocado were unique and delicious. The service was outstanding. The staff did an excellent job of making us feel taken care of but never rushed. A delicate balance that they executed perfectly. For our second course I had the house salad and he had the French onion soup. Both were delicious and portions were large. Next I had the scallops and he the fillet with the jalapeño au gratin potatoes. Both were good but my scallops were a tad salty and the risotto was a bit overcooked. His fillet was fine perfectly but we missed both salt and jalapeño flavor on the potatoes.
