Enjoyed an absolutely delicious meal. Our server JD was fantastic. I enjoyed a glass of wine, a wedge salad and the Prime sushi roll. My husband had a Caesar salad and an Ocean roll, then we shared the truffle Mac and cheese. Really high end ambiance, attentive service, and high quality food. My only small complaint is that overall the pace was a little slow, especially for the simple meal we order. Great for a nice lingering meal and definitely perfect for special occasions! Was very pleased and plan to return.
If you've been, you already know! Ocean Prime is a real treat...if you're willing to shell out some big bucks. I made a reservation in advance which seemed wise in retrospect since the restaurant was quite busy at 7pm. The staff reached out before the reservation to ask about the details of our special celebration. When we showed up they had a nice placard and gave us champagne to help us celebrate! It was a nice gesture by the staff. Our server Adam was too notch, very professional and knowledgeable of the menu. He really made our experience very enjoyable. He even prepared some of our drinks at our table with one hand! Cool guy. Our food was phenomenal, the Chilean Sea Bass was prepared nicely and seasoned lightly with blackend like seasoning. I was surprised at the small portion sizes that came with our dishes. So definitely get the share size sides. The carrot cake dessert was also pretty incredible, very dense and flavor was not so intense. The vibe here is definitely upscale, although their bar had a couple large TVs. Definitely get a reservation and be prepared to shell out some serious bucks for your meal
Let's start with the service. Very friendly staff from the moment you arrive. The place looks modern, nicely decorated, with a stunning wine wall with great selection to choose from. Food was amazing. We had the Taylor tots with aioli sauce. For main dishes we had the ribeye steak and scallops on a creamy risotto. Everything was delicious and well seasoned. The risotto was slightly salty but not enough to complain about it. It was still very flavorful. Drinks were very good. The dessert, carrot cake, was amazing. Of note, there is a dress code. Highly recommend if you are celebrating or for special occasions. Their happy hour is worth trying.
I personally think this is the best and most consistent steak house in KC. The filet is always so tender and well seasoned. My favorite appetizer is their calamari which is tossed in this sweet sauce that pairs so well with it. Their 10 layer carrot cake is so unique. I haven't had it anywhere else. The service is quick, kind, and considerate. The dining area is spacious and the lighting is perfect.
We went to Ocean Prime for our anniversary dinner. We scheduled a reservation on a Saturday for 7pm. We got off to a little bit of a rocky start having to wait over 10 minutes for our table past the reservation time. It was very busy. There were lots of birthdays and anniversaries being celebrated. We ordered a couple drinks to start. I ordered The Osprey and she ordered the Berries & Bubbles. The Berries & Bubbles is a fun drink with the dry ice smoke for the visuals. Both of us enjoyed our drinks. We ordered the calamari for the starter. The calamari was great and a good portion size. I ordered the group for my main. It was cooked perfectly. I would've liked a larger portion but it's about the portion size I would expect from a place like this on the fancier side. We shared the warm butter cake for dessert. This was comped for it being our anniversary. The warm butter cake was delicious. I definitely recommend ordering. We also each got a small glass of champagne on the house when our dessert came. This along with the dessert was a nice touch. I like that Ocean Prime made sure to highlight it being an anniversary dinner. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. Other staff we encountered were also nice and welcoming. Overall, great experience and would recommend for a special occasion.
My wife and I were having a late lunch at Ocean Prime in the Kansas City Plaza location. Two women walked in and sat at the bar four seats away from us. They immediately started a FaceTime call on speaker with the volume fully cranked. The conversation was full of heavy cursing that everyone around us could clearly hear. I politely stood up and asked them to take the call off speaker because we did not need to hear their conversation. I was immediately hit with a stream of curses and called a "white privileged mother f#####." I never raised my voice or used a single curse word. I simply walked to the restroom. When I returned, one of them was still cursing at me. She eventually left; her companion stayed and paid their small bill. We had spent well over $1,000 that afternoon. When we walked out, our private driver was waiting at the front door. The two women were staged outside and attempted to assault us. Our driver stepped in and deflected them. I called the manager on duty to report what happened. He insisted we were in the wrong and sided with the two women. I never cursed at them, never yelled at them, and only asked them to stop forcing their conversation on the rest of the dining room. What the manager did was completely unacceptable. It is apparent your store has customer issues. We will never return to Ocean Prime. Have a great day.
Ocean Prime continues to be one of our top dining spots on the Plaza--and having John Dove as our server makes it that much better. He's more than just a server; dining with JD feels like catching up with an old friend who happens to have an expert's grasp of the menu and drink list. Right as we were seated, my Belvedere Martini with blue cheese olives appeared--perfectly chilled and exactly how I like it. We split the Iceberg Wedge, a steakhouse classic done right. I love that Ocean Prime offers half portions of sides. Per JD's recommendation, we went with the Chophouse Corn, Smoked Gouda Tater Tots, and Jalapeño Au Gratin Potatoes. The corn, cut straight from the husk, was a standout--and I'm still trying to figure out how they pack that much flavor (and gouda!) into a tater tot. The 22 oz Bone-In Ribeye was grilled to perfection--juicy, flavorful, and plated beautifully. Dessert is never an afterthought here. We loved the 10-Layer Carrot Cake, which somehow manages to be both indulgent and light. If you're headed to Ocean Prime, ask for John Dove--you won't regret it.
We love this chain! This visit was for restaurant week dinner. The front desk staff were warm and friendly on this bitterly cold evening. The server took a while to get to us even though it was early in the evening. He was not very warm or welcoming and had terrible breath. He didn't know what wine was being served on the special RW menu and had to go check. At the end of our meal he asked to bring us our check without the dessert which we had previously ordered. Justa very strange evening and not one we are used to here. By the time we left (which was still early) the music was cranked up and the noise level was quite high.
We celebrated my daughter's 30th birthday at OP this past Saturday. The whole experience was fantastic! The reception staff was so friendly. Our table was decorated and they had a card for my daughter waiting. Jamison was our waiter. He did a great job serving the dietary needs to accommodate my daughter's Chron's disease. He was probably the kindest and most attentive waiter I remember ever having, and we eat out often. The food was all delicious. This place is one of a kind, with a great atmosphere.
I've been to Ocean Prime several times but in the past two weeks I've gone twice - it's just that good!! The whole evening is an experience. When you walk in, you're greeted by a reception desk in a cozy room with a beautiful display of wine and comfy chairs in the waiting area. The vibes are immediately warm, cozy, and welcoming. Upon seating, the dining room is decorated beautifully and the low lighting keeps the ambiance going throughout the meal. I would highly recommend ordering the Bubbles & Berries to drink. Not only is it a bubbling beauty, it tastes just as wonderful! This drink alone is an experience and such a fun way to start. For appetizers, I would highly highly recommend the Ahi Tuna Tartare and the Hamachi Crudo. Other wonderful starters are the Warm Bread Service and a sushi roll (we went with the Spicy Tuna). For dinner, recently, I had the Ahi Tuna and the Chilean Sea Bass. Both were wonderful, but my favorite was definitely the Sea Bass. It is so rich and delicious. Those I was with ordered the Sea Scallops (looked incredible), Filets (with different preparations - Maytag Blue Cheese Crust and Black Truffle Butter), and sides of Bacon Creamed Spinach and Jalapeño Au Gratin (all of which I heard were divine). The servers are so kind and knowledgeable. If you have dietary restrictions - not to worry! The servers start the meal asking if there are any they should be aware of and are mindful of this. I've always been too full to try a dessert, but it's on my list to try next time I go! If you're looking for an upscale dining experience for a date night, dinner with friends, a business meal, or family in town - this is your go to! I can't recommend it enough!
Complimentary champagne for my birthday. Celebrating my birthday here was such a great idea. The food was amazing and the drinks just kept a coming! Would definitely recommend and go again. Pictures could be better but the dining is really nice and decorative.
Very impressed with this place. Our first time dining here, it definitely left a lasting impression on me. A nice fine dining atmosphere and certainly the professionalism to match. Our service was solid all the way through and I appreciate all the staff we interacted with here. We split the lobster bisque to start and it is delicious. For my entree, I went with the Grouper (lots of great looking options but I was swayed by the gnocchi) and was far from disappointed. The fish was cooked perfectly and there was great depth of flavor with this dish. We also very much enjoyed our cocktails (very very solid Old Fashioned, for one). I definitely give this restaurant a strong recommendation! I'd love to return.
Amazing service - I came here with my fiancé for a work milestone celebration dinner and our server was very helpful in assisting us with what to order. Our steak came back pretty rare so we did sent it back to get cooked a bit more but everything was delicious. We were splitting our 2 mains and they were able to split it for us which was nice. I wouldn't get the grouper again as it wasn't anything special for what the price was. My favorites were the goat cheese ravioli and black truffle Mac & cheese.
The wifey and I came here on a Saturday night for dinner. We love the vibes, with the perfect volume level, and great service (Lauren). Now to the food. We ordered: Branzino Lobster linguine Jalepeno Au Gratis All three dishes were amazing and the highlight was the noodle texture of the linguine. We left wanting to come back to try different items on the menu. This doesn't usually happen to me, especially in the Midwest. Highly recommended! We will be back. read more

This place is cute. Nothing spectacular but cute nonetheless. My friend and I arrive so that we could go have dinner at the restaurant and decided to have a drink at the bar before we transitioned into the dining room. Unfortunately, the bartender took so long to come to our table, and we just decided that we were going to dine in the bar area. I think he was just overwhelmed, but when he did come, he was very nice. I think he was just new out of training because I had some questions about the menu that he wasn't able to answer, but luckily I was able to navigate the menu myself. When I say the cocktails were amazing I had a paper plane. Next time with the sushi rolls which were very mediocre but good just nothing special. I also ordered calamari which came out extremely overcooked and rubbery. I don't know if it was overcooked or if it was just old, but it definitely had potential to be good because the flavor was amazing. It just wasn't properly cooked. The Brussel sprouts were really good. I ordered a ribeye, medium, rare plus to medium . The only reason why I said, medium rare plus is because it's a seafood restaurant and sometimes they mess up on the steaks and I didn't want it overcook because I know you can always bring a temp up but you can't bring a temp down. Of course, although I ordered a medium rare, plus it came out medium well/well done the slightest amount of pink to grey. We spoke to the server about it he apologized and had it remade. It had to be remade three times and just caused our dining experience to be so long. They finally got the temperature right but by that time we were just so over the dining experience the steak was just under season as well, so we just packed our stuff and left. I had no desire to go back to this restaurant again, but the manager made it right by us and I'm definitely going to give it another try and try to stay just within the seafood realm next go round. I have faith that they can execute a good dining experience. It was just little small details and kinks to work out. I'll be sure to keep you all posted with route two! read more
Enjoyed Happy Hour at Ocean Prime-- did I just uncover the best HH in the city?! All items ordered were 50% off during HH- a steal! Food: POPCORN: Table comes with the lost declines popcorn you have ever had. Sushi: Ocean roll and Prime roll- delicious, so fresh. Ocean roll had the perfect little spicy kick. Sakura Wagyu Cheeseburger: my husband loved- said the jam was Jamin'. Highly recommend. Drinks: Berries & Bubbles: A delicious little science experiment- it bubbles for quite some time. This was just a bit sweet, but loved the taste- ordered two! Atmosphere: They set a high end vibe with excellent service. read more

Greta food great service! Spacious restaurant. My husband and I go there for my birthday each year. Everything was outstanding except the shrimp linguine needs to work on it's texture, I believe angel hair or spaghetti or bucatini would go better with this seasoning and also it needs to be cooked al dente instead of all the way thru. The hamachi was outstanding, pickled mango and seaweed salad went perfectly with the fish. Oysters were fresh and sweet. We devoured them within a few minutes. Salmon belly nigiri came with caviar on top, it was not only visually pleasing, the salmon was really fat, fresh and great size. I ordered the mocktail with blueberries, one of the best drinks I have had but the other drink with zero gin wasn't really good. Our server gifted us a dessert option for my britches and I chose the warm butter cake. It was so yummy and filling! I highly recommend people to try ocean prime! read more

My husband surprised me with a reservation in honor of our tenth anniversary of our first "I love you." The view was lovely. We shared a crab cake, I had gnocchi and grouper, he had sea scallops. Everything was delicious. And our server was awesome. I would highly recommend and we will definitely go back. read more
Sophisticated dinner spot! Top notch service in Kansas City! We celebrated our anniversary at Ocean Prime while we were in town. Absolutely to die for selections that will make your final decision a tough one! We settled on the nights special of the bone in ribeye, dual lobster tails, and creme brûlée for dessert! So we went after work to unwind. Our server Jevene made our visit memorable. She was always on point with recommendations and was delightful and engaging. Everything you could ask for in a top notch restaurant. She recommended the East Coast Oysters and they were crisp, briny, sweet, and fresh. We had to get a second round of 6. The blackened snapper was perfectly cooked and had just the right hint of heat (spice) at the end. The butter cake was perfect to close. But again our server just made it a memorable evening. Dinner was very good , the truffle caviar deviled eggs were spectacular and very good truffle flavor . The scallop risotto was by far the dish of the night , amazing flavor and just just to die for . For my birthday this year I finally checked out Ocean Prime. I was really excited considering the fact l've visited Prime Social a few times. The atmosphere was very elegant decor and a good selection of music. While I enjoy the food and cocktails. I do have to say the lamb chops did not match the hype. They were well cooked but not a lot of flavor. The cocktail was very cute with the nice "instagram Smokey effects". But it was honestly too sweet. While Ocean Prime is nice I'm not in a rush to visit soon. read more

They have an amazing chef 5 course experience about once a month. It is very much an "experience!" Great food, great wine, and great experience. They also have a half price sushi night and a special priced martini night! The tablespoons de carving of the Red Snapper was quite the show. This was a special menu, but shows an example of their monthly experience meals. read more
Came here for NYE dinner and it was amazing from start to finish! My reservation was initially for four people, three people decided to join us last minute making it a reservation for seven people and the host made it work!!! It was SUPER busy and a lot going on due to it being NYE so I was nervous we were going to get turned away. S/O to the host that night! ( didn't catch her name) Our server I believe her name was Brittany was AWESOME! Not one time did we ever feel rushed, she was very attentive, paid attention to details and very patient once the drinks started kicking in. LOL! I didn't capture as much picture as I would like to due to me having the time of my life with my love ones. The food was a 10/10 I ordered 12 dozen of oysters half east and west coast, lobster linguine. A few of my guests ordered the ribeye, lobster, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, brussels sprouts, crab cake, lamb chops , tuna roll (forgot the actual name) and Wagyu beef medium rare 6oz. I will for sure be returning here, the service and intimate atmosphere was so fitting for the occasion. I highly recommend giving this place a try! read more

Had such a wonderful experience here last week for our 3rd anniversary. The food was stellar and so was the service. They had lovely signature cocktails that were fun to experience.
