I've been wanting to try 818 Shanghai for a while! Finally made it out and it was dismal and way overpriced. Arriving on a Saturday morning, they had only 1 server working the entire restaurant. It wasn't busy but we did have to wait on him for everything. We ordered traditional Chinese dishes such as seafood pan fried noodles, sizzling beef platter, and dimsum such as sticky rice and fried lobster balls. Seafood pan fried noodles didn't have enough sauce. We had to ask for more. The presentation was also not pretty when it came out. The seafood in it though was delicious. I thought the shrimp, scallop and squid were excellent. The sizzling beef platter tasted like a regular pepper steak. It wasn't the traditional dish we were looking for and it also didn't come out sizzling. The sticky rice and lobster ball were only okay. Very expensive tab for very mediocre food. read more

Wonderful dim sum! Very fair price too. From the steamed shrimp dumplings to the fried lobster ball, all is great!! Even when we order from Uber Eats it comes fresh and delicious. I was craving dim sum, and 818 Shanghai really came through. Thank goodness for Yelp otherwise I might not have found this place! The atmosphere is casual with Asian-inspired décor, and the restaurant itself has a unique L-shaped layout. The service was friendly and personable, which made the experience even better. I've been trying to find great Chinese food in the area since I moved to Florida over 20 years ago. There have been hits and misses, but this has been something that was above and beyond the rest. Everything was delicious. Scallion pancakes were perfectly cooked with a nice fry on it. The fried rice was not overly sauced or overly cooked and had the right amount of additional ingredients like vegetables and chicken. As soon as the food arrived, my daughter sucked down the eyedrop soup because it was so good, with the beautifully perfect fried noodles that come with it. I'm really glad that this place opened in Boca Area!! We're in west Boynton Area and there are no good Chinese / Dim Sum place near by. This restaurant is located near the Turnpike on Glades near the City Fish Market. Food is great! Dim Sum are on the pricey side but portions are bigger also. We used to go to Real Wok in Boynton and Grand Lakes in WPB but this restaurant is better in portion and flavor. Kitchen dishes are still a little inconsistent because we ordered some clams and black bean sauce and both times came out different taste. Service is okay, not bad but just typical Chinese restaurant service. I feel like the service could improve since it located in Boca Area. That's the only reason I give this review a 4 instead of 5. Inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated like banquets style restaurant. Nice booths, chandeliers and decors. However, like any other Chinese restaurants the cleanliness seems to be overlooked. Quick seating and service. Food came pretty fast. I thought my local place had great dim sum until I tried these. There is a large selection of dim sum and regular Chinese dishes. 818 Shanghai is a great choice when dining with a group of friends. They have a broad menu which should satisfy all tastes. We sat at a large round table with a lazy-susan turntable in the middle, ordered several entrees, and kept spinning the food around to share. Everything on our dim sum-style "tasting menu" was delicious. First we started with a variety of soups: wonton, egg drop, and chicken corn soup. The chicken corn soup was similar to an egg drop soup with the addition of small bits of chicken and a lot of corn. It is intended for two people and is presented in a large bowl with two servings. All the soups were tasty. We shared pork lo main, candied walnut shrimp, cashew chicken, Mongolian beef, and moo shu chicken with "pancakes" (flour tortillas) and hoisin sauce. All of the entrees came with a nice assortment of veggies (especially onions!) and a side of white rice. We decided the best entree was "all of the above" as we enjoyed the flavors of everything. The portion sizes were good as well. The service was very good although we could have used more frequent refills of our water. We enjoyed a nice (beware: very hot!) cup of tea with our meal. My son invited me to a post-birthday lunch and I suggested Shanghai 818. We opted for dim sum and his partner chose the Ma Po tofu, which had some heat but not a lot. (Decent cumulative afterburn, though.) Son and I shared soup dumplings, steamed pork buns, fried lobster balls, steamed spare ribs with black beans, and a few desserts, all with some hot tea. First time here... this place reminds me of the Cantonese Chinese restaurants I used to go to as a kid in NY. The Crispy Noodles came out when we arrived, accompanied by Hot Mustard and Duck Sauce... both very good. Egg rolls just average, Won Ton Soup as well. The entrees were much better. First visit here around 1pm on Saturday, which I expected to be somewhat busy but there were only 2 tables. If you didn't know about the hot pot place next door, then you may not have known about this. You can't see these restaurants from the main road so it's easy to miss, but there are plenty of parking space that you can do donuts. It offers a good variety of dim sum and other Chinese dishes too from the menu; it's not the traditional push cart. We ordered 9 items but I think 4 out of 9 were good and the rest were either too much of an ingredient or too little. The prices were about $1 more or equal to another dim sum restaurant, but it is what it is nowadays : l Service was great and friendly aunties, so it made the visit even better. If you're in the area or don't live far from Boca, it would be nice to visit. read more

This is our third visit back to 818 Shanghai and once again we were not disappointed This restaurant has changed management in the not to recent past and I must admit it is for the better! We booked a dinner in advance as we were a party of five and we seated immediately, even though the restaurant was fairly busy Our server, Charlie with a poker face actually was quite funny efficient and helpful! We ordered a variety of dishes which included Stir Fried Fish with ginger scallion, Mapao Tofu, Shrimp fried rice, Beef with Eggplant, Steamed Rice. The flavors of each, and every dish were spot on, and this is probably the authentic Cantonese cuisine in Boca Raton. The prices are reasonable. The service is good and the restaurant has a nice vibe about it. Read about this place on social media. It was a bit out of my way, the reviews promised it was tasty and that they offered dim sum. When we arrived in a Sunday night, they were busy, but sadly no dim sum was offered because of some mechanical failure in the kitchen. We tried scallion pancakes, beef teriyaki on a stick, walnut shrimp and moo shu chicken. It came with a side of white rice. Service was rather slow. This new venture by the 818 Heat restaurant is located right next door to their hot pot and karaoke place in Boca Raton. Plenty of parking in the lot out front. The menu has all your traditional dim sum items - steamed, fried, baked, savory and sweet options plus some some larger stir fry entrees. We ordered a little bit of everything to try out the chef's skills. Steamed spare ribs - on the fatty side and had cubes of taro to fill the plate but the flavor was good Siu mai - meat was juicy, skin was thin XO turnip cake stir fry - flavor was great and a nice portion but very oily Steamed bean curd skin wraps - the kitchen took it back to re-steam to make sure it was fully cooked. The filling was good but overall too salty. Shrimp and chive dumplings - big filling was delicious and had water chestnuts for a nice crunch but the skin was too sticky and fell apart Steamed tripe - my husband liked it a lot Sichuan Pig's Ear was my favorite dish. Light, refreshing and cooked well. It's clean and nicely renovated inside. There were a few small flies roaming around inside though. Wanted to check out a different dim sum spot, actually saw this place from an IG reel, but have been to the 818 hot pot around the corner before. I didn't know this place existed actually. The people working there were very nice, and the dim sum did taste authentic, however, I think that if there were more people that came here it would be better. Everything was great, but I think the freshness was lacking. Please come here and make it more popular so that the food can be more fresh! My favorite dish is actually the eggplant shrimp ball, but I didn't like it so much here. My favs here are beef tripe, shrimp dumplings, and beef ribs. Plenty of parking. We had an excellent lunch here. Thanks to Anh N's review we decided to stop by. We like dim sum and her 5 star rating was warranted. It wasn't hard to find. It's located on the south side of Glades Road within walking distance to other restaurants and the Hilton hotel. There's ample free parking right outside the restaurant. The restaurant is quite large -- perfect for large groups from the hotel and local companies. The section we sat in, however, was cozier with a limited number of tables and booths. The dim sum menu is numbered and has photos. We didn't even take the time to look at the regular menu, which we will do in the future. We made a few selections from the 40 plus options. The food came out fairly fast -- in no particular order. Just a note, if you'd like hoisin sauce, hot mustard, etc., just ask. None of the sauces except soy are on the table. We had their turnip cake. Nice and creamy inside, with bits of pork, and with some fried crispy edges on the outside. We had their steamed shrimp and chives dumplings. They were sticky and packed with both shrimp and greens. We also tried their deep-fried lobster roll. This one was good, but the only one we'd probably not get again. It was chopped up seafood compacted together surrounded by lots of dough (may be taro?) that when fried makes it look spindly. It came with two dollops of mayonnaise on the side of the plate. I also had their baked BBQ pork buns. These were slightly sweet and had the traditional chopped pork filling. Yum. I had one bun at the restaurant and the other two at home. (They heat up nicely in the microwave, btw). We plan on returning very soon to try more of their options. And I'm sure they will get busier as they are discovered. read more

We went here with a group for their dim sum. I love when they come around with the carts- but they don't do that here. They had a big Lazy Susan in the middle so it makes it easy to share the food. We ordered shrimp and chive dumplings, crystal shrimp dumplings, pork spare ribs (least favorite-too fatty), Shanghai Xiao long bao, sticky rice with chicken in lotus leaf (so so), Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, garlic string beans ( so so), shrimp rice roll (big and can split easily) . I am always looking for a good or decent Chinese restaurant especially for dumplings/Dim Sum and I made the trip way out west hoping 818 Shanghai would be good and it wasn't. I don't remember the last time I saw fried noodles on a table in a Chinese restaurant but they had them and I suppose it was for the suburban New Yorkers who think that is authentic to Chinese cuisine and they love those things, that and it's gratis. The first problem was there were no dumplings as there was an issue in the kitchen. Then an item we wanted and drove for and it was also not available. We settled for the basics and everything disappointed. Two noodle items were not good and I could not eat the Shrimp Lo Mein. A Chicken item looked nice and was not drowning in sauce or oil but that too disappointed. The vegetables didn't seem fresh and the chicken was dry and tasteless. That was also left. The restaurant is nice looking and parking was easy but I doubt I will be coming back. read more

Sat 6 of us at a table for 8 -10. A party of kids in the back room wandering in and out of the main dining area, going in and out of the restaurant at high volume, was disruptive. Service was indifferent and very slow and untrained, ( did not know the food on the menu looking confused with each order). Food came out one at a time, cold, and sent back and then forgotten. TV was left on, nobody watching until they slaughtered and cut up a dead pig in color, and staff would not turn it off. Lots of barking among the staff to each other in high volume Chinese. I will have to agree w/ another reviewer who noted they use too much cornstarch making for too thick gummy sauce. Ordered egg rolls ... pretty the worst ones we've had in a long time. Tasteless and mushy there isn't enough duck sauce that could save them! Chicken and eggplant in spicy garlic sauce...gummy, sweet with no hint of spice or much garlic. Normally a darker color, this was pastie and pale. They give you a lot of chicken, little eggplant strangely with peppers added and too many huge pieces of scallion. Hubs liked the salty meat fried dough which was strangely sweet (?) and the fried taro which tastes like old oil needing change. The roast pork buns and egg tart again a bit too sweet for my liking. I think their dim sum chef is more authentic if he can adjust the sugar down a little it would be so much better! read more

We've been looking for decent Chinese since moving here 2 years ago. We knew it was a challenge. Hot and sour soup is my barometer and after having some down here that was abominable I had almost given up. This is the first place that would get an 8/10 for their soup. Yay! However, one sticking point. I know prices are up everywhere. But our takeout cost close to double what it was in our former area. The vegetable dish we ordered cost 4x what a pound of the veg is in stores and we got 8oz (yes I weighed it, I was so surprised at the small portion). And we do not like the practice of charging more for brown rice. All the dishes were good but I just don't think we can afford this for what we got. read more

10 of us eat at this place the other night for the first time. It was a holiday so we didn't expect great service but we were hoping the food would be decent. Everyone in our group was disappointed. We sampled many different items on the menu and no one was happy with their selection. The only item that was decent was the spare ribs. Their chef's special seafood dish was 85% vegetables with two shrimp, a couple of pieces of rubbery calamari and some very small pieces of lobster tail that was mostly shells. The shrimp and lobster sauce was more like a runny soup, although the shrimp were tasty.The chicken and broccoli dish contained so much cornstarch it was slimy and not edible and the same was true for the beef and broccoli. We waited 90 minutes to be served although, in fairness, it was a holiday, and our expectations regarding service were not high. By comparison, the night before I joined a group of friends at REAL WOK located on Hypoluxo and Military Trail. The place was jammed because it was a holiday, but the service was excellent and, more importantly, the food was outstanding. Normally, I would give a restaurant a second chance, however, given their high prices, skimpy portions and horrible food preparation, this one doesn't warrant another visit. read more

The first time I ordered delivery, it was on time, and the food was hot and delicious. However, the second time was a disaster. The delivery order kept getting delayed and finally arrived about an hour late. Obviously, the food was cold and not edible. When I complained, I was told I would be given a refund. After numerous emails back and forth with "Sauce," the company that I now know handles the restaurant's logistics, I was refunded $17 from a $140 bill, which included a $10 tip. I further learned that although the restaurant states that there is free delivery if ordered on their site, that is the quite the case. It seems as though you actually pay Sauce approximately 10% more for the order. So the refund I was given was Sauce's commission.
