Great service and food! We sat by the bar at the high top tables and were greeted by staff and management immediately. To start, the skinny margarita was made perfectly. Everything was delicious and cooked with the appropriate seasonings and temperature. I could eat those whipped mashed potatoes as an entree - they were so good. And for dessert, a show! I have one word WOW. My husband and I wanted a nice Valentine dinner so we chose 844. We reserved our table in advance very easily on open table. Our server was Marco and he was friendly, knowledgeable, and had no vibe of rushing us. We had a visit from the sommelier Henry, who was of great assistance in helping us choose a bottle that would suit our meal. (He also mentioned tastings that they have from all different regions!! Fun!) our food was prepared and served beautifully. We finished off the night with the cheesecake which was very different from your usual cheesecake, very rich and savory, and a tiramisu martini that was top notch! Arrived for a 5:30 dinner with a party of 8. The place wasn't too packed then on a Thursday upon arrival which was nice. The waiter Pablo was very engaging with our kiddos and even pulled out some tricks the girls enjoyed. The menu is pretty expansive with plenty of shareable and individual options, seafood, steak, pastas, other proteins. Large drink menu with a variety of cocktails and mocktails. The lychee martini was great, crisp, cold and not too sweet. Altho the first time I didn't have a lychee in the drink. Food wise we ordered: Scallop linguini (4/5): well cooked, scallops were perfect, pasta el dente sauce was a little too heavy on the butter taste like they melted a stick of butter on top. Could use more spices/herbs Schnitzel (4/5) Perfectly crispy and substantial portion Veal scallopine (4/5) Came with two pieces and side of asparagus which was the star. Sauce not too creamy and a hint of lemon. Baked Alaska (3/5) Fun, enough to share with 4 adults pretty dense Espresso martinis (4/5) No baileys perfectly mixed not too strong and well balanced The place gets pretty packed as you progress into the evening especially at the bar. So I went to 844 tonight thinking I am going to treat myself to something special! When I arrived, and asked for the happy hour, Juan didn't seem too excited. He sternly told me that I had 12 minutes to order before they would close it. I inquired about the wine list and he immediately turned me over to his coworker and had his coworker be my server. He still could've made a good tip on my happy hour meal. Nonnis The next couple came in and he went out of his way to cater to them. Tell them about the specials. Tell them about the wines and the drink list and explain everything in detail and treated them like they were the king and queen. Karma got him when they quickly paid their check and left after hearing the prices. One would've been smarter to wait on me because I am a very good tipper! He then asked the couple next to me how their sliders were and then breezed right past me. Mine were cold, but nobody knew, he was so full of himself, I told him before I left how I was dismayed at how he treated me. I'm hoping this will be a lesson for him not to pre-judge anyone! Hmm, this is another tricky review where I would like to give a half star more. We enjoyed the food, and service was nice, but there are too many other distractions that keep me from ranking this higher, and I'm not sure I would return. Let's get the cons out of the way. The parking lot is small, and does not have enough space for all of the patrons. You may have to park in a neighboring business and navigate over. The entrance is not clearly marked once you arrive at the parking lot. Despite having a reservation for 6pm they had no table for us, and they had to push tables around to make room for us, so we were not seated until 6:15 and left waiting in the lobby. As we were waiting two couples left angrily, one complaining it was too cold and another because they were not comfortable at a high top table. We were also seated at a high top, and my wife who is shorter has trouble with them. We did not complain, but not a good choice for seating. We were both uncomfortable during dinner with these chairs. They are big, heavy and you can't adjust your position during dinner. A terrible seating choice! The restaurant is basically a big bar with TV's and incredibly loud. You can not hold a conversation here no matter where you might be seated. The restaurant is open air with garage doors to the parking lot. It's been cold here lately and it made for a chilly dining experience. There are no heaters above these open windows. Not normally a problem for Florida but it has been in the high 50's and low 60's lately. OK, now that I have all of that out of the way let's talk about the service and food. If not for all the other faults mentioned above, I would have given this restaurant 4 stars. Our waitress was lovely and attentive and the food was quite good. There was complimentary bread service (remember that?) and cocktails were delicious. We tried the wedge salad which was very nice, flavorful and big enough to share. The Triple tail fish entree was delicious. What impressed me most was that the chef showed restraint with salt and seasoning so that the food could shine. Not so common these days. While I was impressed with the food, there are too many other shortcomings here. They are relatively new and can work on some of the issues I've raised, but I think the design of the space is problematic. While prices are set for high end dining, the space is better suited for casual bar dining. Some may enjoy it here, just be prepared for a loud bar experience. read more

We stayed at the Marriott Crystal Shores and the Concierge gave us a a couple recommendations, and 844 Gulf & Prime was one. On a relaxing anniversary day, we got a late start, which was just fine. We arrived and were greeted by Marty who was our server. The restaurant is only a year old; while it looks nice and new, there is also a feel of being a well-established restaurant, as if it has been there decades; perhaps it is because Marty and others have worked in the industry and brought their experience to make 844 that much better than others, a find dining experience. The food was wonderful, definitely in part because I shared it with my wonderful wide, and also because the chef knows how to cook. We enjoyed: - House salad - Bread and butter, and gluten-free veggies for my wife - so fine! - Hogfish with greens and mushrooms and squash - so OOD - Stuffed grouper - very good rice with a miso sauce bure blanc sauce - so GOOD - we didn't ask for it, so we were nicely surprised when Marty brought us, for dessert, a raspberry mousse - WOW! Mai this often make people think of Hawaii, likely because they were invented, in Oakland, CA, at Trader Vic's, with it's tiki/polynesian theme. This was my first visit. Our waitress, Jaime was very good. We did inform her it was to be a romantic dinner. Unfortunately however, the first three courses were unnecessarily hurried; we received our soup while still enjoying the oyster appetizer, then salads came before we finished the soup - and we were sharing! This is not to be expected when spending over 400 dollars for two people for dinner. The food quality was excellent Again, unfortunately, a "screaming" 6-top party was seated next to us, visited by equally loud patrons from other tables. We had to raise our voices to near "scream"levels to hear each other, despite sitting side-by-side. This was particularly disturbing to us as the restaurant was empty when we arrived (6pm) and was never more than half full all evening. We voiced our opinions to the greet staff upon leaving and were told that a "note would be made." I don't know what that means! Go for the steak stay for the bananas I've read the reviews about the fish (go to Lee Be Fish up the road if you want the best fish in the area) and decided to go for the steak. Being from the Midwest, we think we know good steak. 844 did not disappoint! Our server Rich was great and attentive (they have a $60 martini on the menu and glad he alerted us before delivering it). As it was late, we ordered right away - a filet and the beef tenderloin. Outstanding is the only way to describe the meal. Filet was perfectly cooked with asparagus and potatoes. The truffles and foie gras paired with the Madeira sauce really complimented the tenderloin and was perfectly balanced. Completely satisfied, we almost passed on the bananas foster. We've been eagerly awaiting the opening of this new restaurant on Marco Island, and for only having doors open for about a month, they have nailed EVERY detail already! It's incredibly impressive. We made reservations online with ease just as the opening date was announced. Upon arrival, the outdoor hostess stand and lobby is gorgeous, with ample waiting room so that you're not standing around inside the restaurant clogging up the flow of servers while you wait for your whole party to arrive. We were seated right away by a very friendly hostess who put us at a table in the front room right next to a gorgeous red oil painting. We passed a huge bar that looked very welcoming for happy hour, and loved the back and side rooms with some booth-like seating. In our room, the ceilings are high and the windows are trendy garage doors that open wide with funky beautiful lighting fixtures across the length of the room. The lighting is warm to make everyone look beautiful and bright enough that you don't need a flashlight to read the menu. The acoustics are also excellent...you really can hear everyone at your table when they're speaking. We ordered a bottle of wine while we looked over the food options. The menu is extensive with a number of appetizers, salads, steaks, seafood and pasta. I opted for the Escargot appetizer which was perfection, and the 844 Stuffed Grouper, which our server recommended...it was also perfection. I was so impressed with the plating, the portion size, and especially the crabmeat! One friend ordered the Filet Mignon which looked delicious an also came with a small bowl of crabmeat...I will have to try that next time. For dessert we had some lemon sorbet that was light and lovely! The only issue, which is an issue every Marco Island restaurant and store shares, is that there isn't enough parking. Beautiful new restaurant with a great ambiance now in Marco! The 844 Gulf & Prime is for those who want to enjoy great cocktails, seafood and steaks. There's a bit for everyone to experience and enjoy with great quality and amazing service. We were fortunate to sit with Marty, what a great cordial gentleman and amazing hospitality. Marty will make your dining experience memorable. We started with the grilled oysters, delicious, took us back to the acme oyster house in New Orleans, delicious and would definitely recommend. Our mains included the Corvina as well as the Scallops. Both accompanied with rice pilaf and veggies. Delicate, light and delicious and the scallops were in a buttery cheesy sauce just amazing. We ended the evening with the baked Alaska, also light and sweet but amazing. We also were attended by Rene, which always made sure our plates, bread service and table was cleared. Tried this place for the first time. Seated at a high top-chairs are uncomfortable. Martinis and the bread were fabulous. We ordered the cheeseboard which was dropped off by a food runner. Typically at upscale restaurants they describe the selections when presenting a cheese or charcuterie board. Not a big deal but it's about the experience. We order light when trying a new place so we each got a salad with protein. Two different salads both drowning in dressing. His steak was a tiny over cooked medallion. My grouper was very fishy tasting with a lot of some sort of salty awful orange seasoning on it. I order grouper everywhere and something was wrong with this piece. I hardly ate any of my meal. Never had a chance to discuss with anyone as a busser just removed our plates. Our server was lovely but her entire large section got bombarded with large parties all at once. She did her best to manage it all but you can't really be present for that many guests at one time. So whoever is managing the reservations and seating needs some help. Not fair to guests or servers. We were underwhelmed. We spent just under $300. Probably won't go back. There are too many other places we love. read more

We happened upon 844 our first night staying on Marco Island. In a week's time we have visited the restaurant 4 additional times. That speaks volumes for what we think of the food, service and ambiance! The bar is large and comfortable and we were immediately welcomed by the bartenders. Each night we went in, even when sitting at a table, the employees recognized us and stopped to say hello. Jordan, Travis, Sam, Alex, Juan, and our servers Jamie and Derek were absolutely terrific! Henry, the sommelier is very knowledgeable and we enjoyed meeting him. Listen... 844 Gulf & Prime is the place to go. the restaurant is so lively, you can tell everyone was having a great time and the restaurant is just beautiful. the servers and bartenders were all incredible in not only their service but also just genuinely great people. you can tell the people who work here truly care and want you to have a great experience. now to the food: absolutely incredible and the best food i had all week on marco island! we had a large group and all sampled each others food: the tomahawk steak, the calamari, the charcuterie board, the lobster, the chicken, and so much more. i forgot to take pictures of the food cause we were so excited to eat. everything was absolutely delicious from the flavor, to the preparation, to the presentation. the cocktails are so creative and delicious. this place is definitely a must try!! read more

THE PICKY EATER FROM BOSTON Review: 844 Gulf & Prime 844 Bald Eagle Drive Marco Island 239-544-9844 When we heard the whispers of a new kid on the culinary block on Marco Island, we were anxious to check it out. So with two of our dearest friends in tow, we set out to uncover what the buzz surrounding 844 Gulf & Prime was all about. We were in for a treat! ATMOSPHERE: The reception desk is in a covered area outside, as my friend Rita noted, it was nice to not be waiting inside the restaurant, feeling like you're in everyone's way. After a brief delay, the Hostess escorted us inside. The moment we stepped through the entrance, it was evident that 844 was all about making a statement. The interior decor is sparkling and sophisticated with an elegant fusion of glass, metal, accents of roughhewn wood and dazzling galactic chandeliers. SERVICE: Our server Mario did an outstanding job throughout the evening. The service was timely, attentive and friendly; Mario never missed a step and made helpful suggestions throughout the meal, especially his dessert recommendation! THE MARTINI: 844 offers a vast selection of fine wines and spirits, but my drink is always a Belvedere Martini, up with regular olives with the hot rocks on the side. This one was very well done, a strong B+. THE BREAD: So good! Super crunchy crust with soft warm center and plenty of little butterballs. STARTERS: There were lots of choice appetizers mostly seafood but we opted for salads. Our friends split the "Hail Caesar" which came with paper thin cheesy whisps of toasted Ciabatta bread and my Husband and I split the Buratta Salad, lovely creamy golf balls of fresh Buratta floating in a kiddy pool of olive oil, surrounded by little balsamic pearls. It's worth noting that the photos show half portions since Mario thoughtfully divided the salads onto separate plates, eliminating the possibility of feisty fork fights. ENTREES: Rita had the Corvina Nicoise sautéed with grape tomatoes, artichokes, onions, olives, spinach and capers for $30. Roy chose the Stuffed Shrimp Imperial; plump and juicy shrimp topped with Jumbo lump crab and finished with Lemon buerre Blanc ($42) My husband is a big fan of the "Schnitzel" so he was very eager to try the Schnitzel A'la Holstein. A pan-sautéed veal cutlet with a sunny side up egg in a lemon caper sauce. Hold the anchovies. ($34) I chose the Chicken Chasseur. A perfectly cooked juicy chicken breast sautéed in Marsala wine with mushrooms, artichokes, sundried tomatoes and finished with a rich sauce Espagnole all set atop a mound of creamy mashed potatoes with a side of grilled asparagus. ($28) DESSERT: Whatever you do, don't miss the Baked Alaska event! It's a fabulous concoction of vanilla cake ensconced in ice cream, then covered in whipped, torched Meringue. Once it arrived at our table Mario set the whole thing ablaze! It's not only a delicious dessert, it's a happening! THE LOUNGE: After dinner we took a quick spin around the enormous bar and lounge area.
