I often go to Six Ping bakery to buy some pastries such as sweet coconut pastries and raisin buns. The store has a wide variety of pastries, cakes, bread, and buns. The store is very small but very organized and clean. The customer service was absolutely unprofessional. The elderly owner was very rude. I wandered around inside the store to see what kinds of pastries they had. I took some pictures to write reviews for this store, but the elderly owner gave me a negative attitude. For a store that looks SO GOOD, our experience was SO BAD! First, how unfriendly and unhappy can one be when surrounded by pastry? It just was sad more than anything else. Weak, overly sweet coffee. Dry pastry. 2 of our party felt ill afterwards -- and then we looked up all of the health code violations!! YIKES! This is our go-to bakery when ordering birthday cakes. I like that the staff at this location can speak Vietnamese. We usually order their durian and pandan cake. We sometimes ask for extra durian ($20 extra). They also do prints on the cake ($15). All you need is sending your picture to sixping@gmail.com with your phone number. This location does not has as much as the other location on Bellaire / Corporate (Dunhuang Plaza). I like there Durian Pie. You can actually taste the shredded durian. My kids love the Chocolate Teddy Bear Pie. One of my favorite is the Shredded Pork Bun. As for the customer service.... No greeting or no friendly service. I used to like Six Ping Bakery until today. I think the enterprise is doing well but lacking good service. I was at this Six Ping next to Viet Hoa Supermarket for a quick grab. I wanted a cake with some bread. I saw they had decorated cakes in the cooler at reasonable prices. I didn't pay attention to the design until it was opened at a potluck party. I was a little embarrassed with poor workmanship and texture on the icing. There was no comparison with Olympic Chinese Bakery next to Jusgo that I normally go. I was only glad everyone complimented on the yule log shape, not on the ugly flowers and wreath pattern. I also picked out some colorful buns. I was a little hesitating because mochi with red beans don't sound good in a green tea bun. It was plump because it was filled with air. In reality, I was eating mochi with sweet bun. It was green, but tea taste was missing. I asked for bread sticks. None of them understood me. I had to describe the shape and taste. I almost give up but I didn't have time to get them from Little Caesar's Pizza. I ended up buying bread with cheese on top. The cashier recommended me to try the buy 2 get one free deal on lemon cake sitting by the cash register. I regretted buying them because it was so dry and sweet as hell. I needed water to wash it down my throat. I don't think I am critical on communicating. But my experience wasn't so well with 3 people attending the store. I came in happy & said "Hello"...was ignored, even though I was the only customer when I walked in One of the ladies was on the phone taking an order & the other one looked & sounded annoyed when I asked a couple questions about some of the pastries. The best fruit cakes! I love the fruit cakes here. Very fresh. Not too sweet and the icing is more cool whip tasting than buttercream, which I prefer. They're perfect for special occasions like birthdays. It's easy to pick one up on the way to dinner even if you haven't made a preorder for one. They have some cakes that are on display ready for purchase. They'll even write a special message on the cake for you. This seems to be a small bakery when compared with others but they've got a nice selection of breads, cakes and sweets. I like their custard-filled breads and the soft sweet bread rolls in different colors. My son thinks it's cake and considers it to be a treat. Prices are reasonable and the location has plenty of parking. They're in the same complex as VietHoa so you can easily stop by after doing some grocery shopping. Six Ping has such cute colorful pastries to choose from and they also have a nice variety of breads as well. I come here from time to time to pick up something sweet after I've had lunch. The service here is not the greatest nor the friendliest, but I'm here for the food; so I'm still in a good mood when I leave. EUROPE STYLE BLUEBERRY CAKE I really like the blueberries in this cake. It's not overwhelmingly sweet, but you can taste the fruits. The cake itself is not moist, but it's not too dry; so it still has a soft texture. TIRAMISU This is just a simple tiramisu cake in a cup. They don't use any rum or liqueur, but I do taste cacao powder so it's not too bad. The consistency is smooth and it's not dry. MANGO MOUSSE I really like that this has a lot of mangoes. If you like mangoes then I definitely recommend this because it's all you will taste. The mousse itself could've been softer, but it doesn't take away too much from the dessert itself. If I need a pick-me-up then I'll come here and grab a few things. I always wanted to try one of their cakes; so I might do that next time. They have some cute designs. read more

Six Ping Bakery has become a name recognizing Chinese bakery store in Houston. Like many modern Chinese bread shops, there will be trays of pre-wrapped specialty breads with price labeled on the stand. There will also be a standard of red bean bread, polo bread, hot dog bread, milk bread, and regular sliced square bread. But each Chinese bakery has their own distinctive signature breads and style. For example, Six Ping also have cutesy animal shaped breads such as pig, lobster, crab, and turtle. Each of these animal breads has it's own distinctive fillings. Six Ping also have breads fill with mochi to give it a chewy but not too chewy texture for the fillings and they also have many sweet breads such as chocolate bread, blueberry bread, and green tea bread. Every now and then the bread makers at Six Ping would come out with experimental flavors. Currently they have this one called coconut rose bread which was really good as the aroma of the rose flavor can be tasted but doesn't overpower the sweetness of the coconut itself. All of the breads I've tried so far from this Six Ping location are great. They also have little pastry cakes and they are all well decorated and reasonably priced. Right now they are having a promotion of buying 2 mini-cakes and get 1 free. However, you could see the sign was marked changing from buy 1 get 1 free to buy 2 get 1 free. They also have egg custards for sale at the front counter and it's not like your typical Chinese egg custard as they use cheese cake like crust instead of the typical fluffy crust. Just remember that like many Asian places, cash is king so be sure to stock up on those bills in your wallet before going in. read more

There are a few bakeries in Houston, but Six Ping is by far my favorite. I also have been to a lot of different bakeries in SF chinatown, NY chinatown, DC chinatown, and a lot of different bakeries in China (too bad there is no Yelp China). Here at Six Ping, their breads are freshly baked and constantly restocked (just because they sell out really fast). Like most things, first thing in the morning is the best time to go here. They seem to always have a new (experimental) selection every time I come in. I love their red bean bun or blueberry cream bread.. their hot dog bread is also excellent. They also sell cakes and pretty desserts but I have not tried those yet. Their prices cannot be beat, I can buy so much food there with $5 or $10. I go to this place because the pastries are unique and tasty. I love the Padan Sponge Cake because it is super moist and light in taste. The animal shaped breads are the absolute cutest! I love the pig and crab because they are super fun and make great gifts too! They also have these gigantic macaroons that are always fun to give to others. I highly recommend coming here for cheap, high-quality pastries....however, their service here sucks. They are rude to their customers and do not care if you're satisfied or not. I started going to this place recently. The items are very fresh and stay fresh for several days. I ordered a birthday cake a week or so ago. Ordering a cake was easy, and the customer service was pretty good. My family's quite picky about their cakes. Although they didn't love it, they did like it. The coffee icing was very good. This place has lots of great baked goods to choose from at super low price points. Everything that we have gotten here I really liked. Except this shredded pork bun bread. The pork inside seemed like powdered pork and the texture was just really weird. Other than that it's all good. My favorite is a bread that has little pieces of hot dogs in it. Also any of the breads with cheese is legit. My aunt got something that was a "Japanese Cheesecake" It reminded us of Filipino Mamon. It was so soft, spongey and good. I'll have to go back for that because I want more. Since everything is at such a great, low price point keep in mind there is a minimum $10 to purchase with credit cards. There are three places my wife likes to buy bread from in Houston, and ironically all of them are named Six Ping. This is a traditional Asian bakery that specializes in bread and other desserts. The star is definitely the bread, which is rolled off a cart at regular intervals throughout the day. In other words...it's FRESH. The flavors are typical Asian. Dry powdered pork, mung bean, red bean, etc. However, the bread itself, regardless of flavor, is good. Expect to spend about $1 per bread. The only bad part is they only accept credit cards if you spend over $10, at this location (some don't accept credit at all). It is usually difficult to buy that much worth of bread without some of it spoiling...and I never have cash. I usually solve this dilemma by buying their buns in the cooler next to the register. They run about $5 a box of six. So add another 5 pieces of bread to that and my breakfast options are covered for the next week. read more

We started buying cakes from six ping a couple of years ago, after our other favorite bakery changed owners. This year, my kid was very into the Anime "My Neighbor Totoro." Since she loved it so much, I wanted to surprise her with a Totoro cake, I took a picture of what I wanted the cake to look like and showed it to the store. They called the cake decorator on the spot if they can make it, and they said yes, so I placed an order for the cake to be Pandan Flavor with Fresh Strawberry with Totoro's face. My Kid loved it!!! It is her favorite cake so far. The cake was soft and delicious with just about the right type of sweetness for the Asian palette (Not tooo sweet at all). This is the location next to Viet Hoa grocery store. Their prices are fair for what looks to be quality baked goods. I say fair because I didn't get to actually try anything. I didn't try anything because to use a debit card you have to spend a minimum of 10$!!!!!!!! Now I didn't know that was the case until I got up to the line to pay. I figured this is one of those "minimum charge " on credit card type places, but I figured 5$ not 10$. There were no signs saying minimum charge anywhere that I saw. Usually most places that do a min charge have that info up somewhere visible. On top of the 10$ min charge, the workers here were not even remotely friendly. When I walked into this place I was in carb heaven!! Everything is freshly made and literally the aroma of the bakery will draw you into the store. I've only had two birthday cakes from here (vanilla and mango) and both were absolutely spectacular! I ordered the 8 inch cake and it served well over 15 people.
