We love visiting this winery so much we became members. They have a great selection of wines and also have a small food menu in case you are hungry. They have fun events and friendly service. The owner is very personable and will always wander and mingle with the guests. Small tasting room and a covered outdoor area to keep you in the shade in the summer months. The only ding is if they are crowded in the winter the indoor tasting room is small so you would have to hang out outside in the cold. They do offer a fire pit but if you're only staying for a glass of wine I rather not have a fire pit started up. read more

Last weekend our lovely coordinator added @868estate to our Galentine's tour while in Loudoun County and wow what a vibe! The winery tasting area was inviting and the staff was accommodating and nice! They offered flights, bottles, food, homemade goodies to include their truffles which we sampled (the dark chocolate raspberry and the white chocolate blueberry were our favs) and some of their flatbread which was yummy (4.3/5). Lovely winery in Loudoun County! Elegant wines, gorgeous views, and welcoming staff made our first visit a great tasting experience. This family-owned winery has been around since 2012 and has picked up several Virginia Governor's Cup medals along the way. You can grab a glass, bottle, or do a self-guided flight (with tasting notes) and take it to your seat inside or outside. We had a lovely time at this winery. Outside food is allowed outdoors, so we brought our favorite Trader Joe's picnic and ate on the tables outside. They had live music in the afternoon and started up the fire pits. I did a tasting where they allowed me to change the wine options to match my preferences. They also gave my husband small samples of the wines he was interested in before choosing his bottle for purchase. The bottles were reasonably priced for the area. The vibe wasn't Quiiiite what we were looking for, with not as spectacular views as some other wineries in the area and a bit of an older crowd. However, they clearly had regulars whose names the staff knew, so clearly, a very welcoming place that people enjoy coming to. Definitely place I want to bring my mom to enjoy! This was one of the other vineyards we stopped at, and we really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was on the money. The staff was attentive and we did a wine flight, which was very nice selection offered . We decided to get a snack and we got the pepperoni flatbed pizza, which was awesome . We made friends with a small little dog that a couple sitting next to us brought so I would assume if you have a dog that is well behaved unlike ours they would be more than welcome there. Plenty of outdoor seating and from what I recall, they did have inside seating as well in the decorations made you feel welcomed and at home . Make sure to add this to your list if you're doing a wine tour, you will not be disappointed . read more

868 has been on the list of wineries to try for a while, and ended up being one of our favorites in the area. There is a nice indoor tasting room, and a great outdoor space with both a covered area and stage which had live music playing. You can order at their main bar and then bring the self guided tasting to any of the locations on the property. Service at the bar was great and friendly. We opted for both a red flight and the leather bound library flight, along with a small box of the truffles. The truffles are fantastic and a great pairing. The tannat was one of our favorites from the red flight, but the NV Fortified Red (really close to a port) was excellent and not seen that often around here. 868 is definitely worth a visit. read more

My husband and I recently visited 868 on a late Saturday afternoon. I happened to see on FB that they have trivia on Saturday nights 6-8p. You can register ahead online; unfortunately, I learned of trivia on Sat AM and online registration was closed with the instructions to call the Tasting Room to see if they still had space. I called several times and even left a voicemail, but noone ever answered. We decided to just drive there (we planned to go wine tasting regardless) and ask. They were super crowded but the line to get a flight went quick. They were super friendly and said that while trivia was full, since we were a team of 2 they'd squeeze us in! Since you can only get glasses and bottles at trivia, we decided to do a white flight before trivia. We took our flight outside and enjoyed at a picnic table. The outdoor space is huge and family friendly - we saw people playing cornhole and a 1st birthday party. Our favorite wine was the Vidal Blanc, but all were among the best we've had in Nova. While the tasting experience wasn't intimate, 868 was enjoyable and I'd return with friends for an afternoon hangout. Trivia was awesome. One of my husband and my's favorite pre-kid/pre-Covid activities was trivia night at Dogfish in Falls Church and we've tried a few trivia nights since and have been disappointed. The host was chill and moved questions along quickly, good crowd, fair questions that were a mix of academic and pop culture and just hard enough. We got 4th place and had the best date night! We'll definitely return for trivia when the kids visit grandma again:). We ordered a pretzel that came with mustard and cheese that was hot, buttery, and hit the spot. My only complaint is that it was pretty expensive overall (partially due to our poor planning - in retrospect we should've ordered a bottle). We paid $90 for 4 glasses and a pretzel. We both agreed that the sparkling was our favorite (I've sampled a LOT of sparkling wines and it's a remarkable one). read more

Great wine, laid back atmosphere. The food is pretty good (so far only tried the giant pretzel and brie w/ baguette), but we usually bring our own if we're there for the day. Some weekends they have live music which is always awesome. The owners and staff are awesome. This is not a fancy winery, but one you can come unwind in the country under the trees with mountain views and sip on good wine. Also, as a member, you get a free glass every visit along with a free glass for a guest. In the fall, they have firepits outside. This is my go to winery. Also, lots of great events for members. I got invited to a bingo evening at 868 and had such a fun time, I joined their club! Of all the wineries in the area, 868 is the only one that fosters a warm, charming, family environment. Service is very attentive and personal which makes a big difference to me. The wines are all great, especially the Vidal Passito which is a sweet dessert type wine that won the Virginia Governor's Cup! When it is cold, they always have mulled wine that is delightful. You can buy an envelope of the spices for $4 if you want to make some at home. You can do a white flight, a red flight, or a reserve flight. There is also a lesser known flight that is paired with handmade truffles. There are four wines and four truffles. Each one is perfectly matched to compliment each other. The key lime pie truffle and the apple butter truffle will knock your socks off! The club is free to join and only requires a purchase of three bottles a quarter. Unlike a lot of wineries, 868 will hold your wine for you if you can't get out to pick it up right away. No more paying for shipments! You get a free glass of wine or a free flight for two every single visit as well as discounts on purchases. 868 offers many events including concerts, bingo, trivia nights, and special tastings. Be sure to check their website to register in advance since some events have limited seating. Food is okay. The pretzel is amazing! The nachos are just okay. They offer two charcuterie options which are decent. I truly wish they would offer something besides smoked gouda because there is so much of it. The brie is perfect. I would personally like to see three cheese choices in the box, maybe cutting out the smoked gouda all together! The boxes come with a freshly baked baguette. The outdoor spaces have solo fire pits and tons of tables and shelters. You can opt to sit close to others or keep your visit intimate and private. This is a winery that distinguishes itself from a host of other Virginia wineries by having pleasant surroundings (inside and outside seating, tables with fire pits when the weather is chilly). The winery is on a farm estate and they appear to grow their own grapes. I personally liked their sweeter dessert wines and their tasting flights. Point of disclosure, we have been several times now and have joined their club. 868 Estate is quite clever in their presentations-- pairing wine with food and truffles so they have thematic style tastings. The food is okay-- charcuterie boards, fish tacos, pulled pork nachos, small pizzas and the like. The servings are generous and the food has been created to compliment wine tasting. I haven't really explored the depths of the food menu to be honest. We pretty much default to the standard stuff. What really makes this place a five star for me are the winery events and friendly atmosphere they cultivate. We have been to bingo nights and trivia nights. There certainly is a nice crowd of friendly regulars there. 868 is a bit of a drive for us but we're willing to do it routinely because we've always had *fun* beyond the standard: "I"m tasting this, than that, than this.." that is the standard activity for a winery. I can't accentuate that enough. I've been to a lot of microbreweries and wineries. I live in VA, after all. I respect anyone who starts up this kind of business model and I know it's hard work and a big risk. If you can create an environment where people want to come back for the friendly atmosphere, pleasant environment and fun events, then I think you've really nailed it. A relaxing venue with nice outdoor space and cozy wine selection of 1/2 dozen bottles. While Breaux was bustling across the road with sweeping vineyard views, I enjoyed the more spacious and casual family-friendly atmosphere of 868. There was a musician singing and playing soft songs on a guitar that we all enjoyed. The 3 hour trivia definitely put our skills to the test with some stiff competition! The Truffle pairing tasting at $16 is well worth and a much better than the $12 Standard tasting, $4 really goes a long way. I wasn't really a fan of the 6 wines from the flight. In the 5 hour duration, I got a couple of glasses of the acidic Viognier and felt quite drowsy afterwards. The Mango slushee was sugary sweet and the wine pourer kindly gave me a sample with my flight. The grill limited grill menu has bbq, fish tacos, hot dogs, meatballs subs, glad to see the Vegan Meatball Sub make it on there! The sub was a bit disappointing as the toppings fell out, bread wasn't fresh, and the meatballs tasted processed. My friends seemed to enjoy their meaty food. There are some finger foods like the giant pretzel and bruschetta that I want to try next time! My friends and I had a wonderful visit to 868 Estate Vineyards. We enjoyed our red and white flight tastings in the well-designed tasting room. My friends enjoyed their pizza and sandwich orders from the food menu. After the tasting, we went outside. The vineyard sells s'more packs for patrons to roast over outside fire-pits. Really popping spot in the Loudoun Valley area. The rose here is fantastic especially if you like a slightly sweeter rose vs dry. We came on a Saturday and it was packed. Every table was taken but thankfully most people must know this place has a following because the many brought their own chairs. They have lots of space where you could easily spread a blanket out as well. They do allow for you to bring in outside food or you can grab food from their food truck which I believe is there on most Saturdays or big holiday weekends. While some wineries give off a more yuppy or high scale vibe, 868 has more of a "fun" vibe making it a great, relaxed place to spend the day. read more

I have been wanting to come to 868 for wine and truffle tasting, but due to COVID, they are currently not offering tastings. They are however, selling bottles and offer some food options. Since things started reopening slowly, I decided to go with a close group to 868. We each brought our own food and set on one of their tables, which were all spaced out. We even brought our own chairs. It was pretty hot that day, but we managed to grab a spot in the shade, which was nice. I would definitely suggest bringing water, but they do sell water bottles here as well. They had staff going around selling wine and taking food orders. You are able to keep a tab open or pay using your card. You are also able to go inside and place your orders, which we did when we first got there. You are required to wear your mask while inside, and I suggest limiting who goes in with you. Some people still don't get the concept of social distancing, eventhough it is implemented. Bathrooms are located inside and there were also restrooms located on the outside near the main entrance. They were pretty clean and spacious. Plenty of parking and a lot of places to sit outside. They have a live performer, but the music was not to my liking. I am not a fan of dry wines, so I went between canvas white and canvas pink, which I really enjoyed! It was comparable to a resling and really good and refreshing when ice cold. I didn't try any of the food because we all brought so much of our own. I gave 4 stars because obviously I wasn't able to do the tasting, which I know is beyond their control. But hopefully once they do offer them, I can try again. Also, it would be good if they limited the number of people that could be inside. It was a bit nerve racking to be in there with so many other people at the same time. Rounding up to a 4. There's a lot going on here so lets break it down: They have a full sit down restaurant and that is an advantage over most wineries in the region. The food there is pretty good and generally at least 4 star experience on its own. The wines in the tasting room are ok. About a 3-star. Nothing is bad, I would just say that many of their wine lack complexity and can seem a bit watery. The exceptions are the Estate Chardonnay and the Estate Meritage. The chard is a bit dry with some butter notes. The meritage has some spice and nice layering with a mix of 70% merlot, 20% Cab Sauv, and 10% Cab Franc. The tasting room itself is ok. A bit small. The service is good and you can get some small food pairings. The Grill is attached to their Pavilion at 868 Estate Vineyards set up. That's usually where live music is going on summer to fall. Food items are things like a pulled pork BBQ sandwich. Overall the property is beautiful and there is plenty of parking. Net/net we would recommend going to their Grandale Vintner's Table, the sit down restaurant on property. That way you can get some good food and try out their wines too. We've been here a couple of times and it's one of those places that seems to do it all right. Service is knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly. My wife commented on an upcoming 80s themed dance party and the workers had a fun time joking about leading the dance party and mocking each other's dance skills. I love to see people enjoying their job and their coworkers. The fun translates to the customer experience. My wife, who prefers Rose's, enjoyed a two Rose' flight and I chose one of their several options of a four wine tasting. They are still operating "covid style" with plastic tumblers and cute plastic carriers that effectively get the job done and get you to your spot on their gorgeous grounds. And their grounds are where they really shine above the competition. There is inside and outside seating. There are firepits and fountains. There are patio tables and picnic tables and acres of lovely grass and endless views to enjoy. Yelp said the place was closed on Sunday, but it was open until 6p. They have several tasting options you can do, one with truffles, one with food (I think), a reserve tasting and the regular. We did the regular and split the reserve (3 extra wines) between the two of us. The lady working in the tasting room was great (Mary) and was funny and very friendly. What I loved about the place is they did not rush us through the tastings like some other wineries do. We were there talking and learning about the place for about 45 minutes. They also have a farm to table restaurant on the property and the tasting room also sells some other food and trinkets. Unfortunately, this just wasn't a great experience. We did roll up about 30 mins before closing, but we were only a group of 4 and we knew we could finish a bottle quickly. One of us in the group discussed the options with two employees; but neither had their masks on correctly! One kept pulling her mask down to talk to us, and then left it down /off her face entirely. So what's the point. During COVID, I just don't think it's right to ask all your customers to wear masks everywhere within the enclosed store space if the employees don't. (We also left before some other groups did.. so please don't shame for coming close to the end of the day ;) We did enjoy the multiple options to sit in a relaxed environment. We chose a picnic bench in the grass. Just past the tasting room/ store there is another large covered area with seating underneath. They even had a nice area that seemed to be for possibly a live band to play under a shade tent (band was no longer there). OR maybe it was for another table. Regardless, it was thoughtful of them to put up another 10' x 10' shade tent there. There were children playing around in the appropriately distanced tables. There is also a cute little fountain with flagstone patio area, and some flowers. But there are no sprawling views of the vineyards. It's a 100 yard walk to an entrance to their vineyards but we didn't have time, nor have we found it customary to walk through vineyards at these kinds of places (I understand that too much foot traffic disturbs the soil and roots of the grapes). Anyway, the rose wine was not good. Sadly. We really wanted to love it. We couldn't finish it. I do enjoy a day of wine hopping, but will not be back because majority of the experience is to ensure tasting good wine. read more
