3rd time is a flop. I gave this place 2 many chances. Wow, gross is an understatement. I know it's a Chinese buffet but still a restaurant that needs to follow health ordinances. Their bathrooms are so gross that even my kids that roll around the floor they were grossed out. When I 1st came, it just had opened and food was decent, it had a variety of food and all of the hot tables were full, the last 2 time the food has been just gross and not all the hotel tables are being used. The sushi is a don't. The service is below average for a Chinese buffet too. The whole restaurant is a no for me. You make your own opinion. read more

I eat here with my mom every month. i get the mushrooms because they are my favorite. I like the rice. the little coffee cakes are good. I ate here Saturday April 20, and it was packed. Fresh chicken was brought out, we sat in a booth near the buffet serving stations. No one had to tell the staff to keep refiling our drinks. We was not bothered every 5 minutes like at other places nor did they rush us to eat the food. read more

Mixing old with new food is not cool. The food gets cold dry and cold. Employees being unprofessional such singing out loud. The plates, cups and silverware have been quite filthy here lately. An egg roll had plastic inside. The manager which is a tall blonde headed male was informed, but made it clear that he didn't care because he didn't prepare the egg rolls. The egg rolls we're pre-made. He mentioned how it's not his fault. The floor was so slippery due to a possible oil spill. The a/c wasn't working. The window was boarded up at one point. Last thing. I had read a lot of mixed reviews about this restaurant which made me a little nervous to go to our friends wedding anniversary party here with friends and family. Also I am not a big fan of buffets in general. However, we were there about 1 pm on a Sunday last week, and the food was good. Everything was fresh and the counters, steam table, tables and booths were clean and well stocked. It was crowded in the restaurant and in the party room where we were but everything flowed well from our drink orders, to going through the buffet, to our bill to check out. Recommend this place. I've been coming here since it opened. It has gone down over the years. I go there because of the grill. It is freshand a great value most of the time. I have asked for items to be tefreshed in the past and it seamed if the cook behind the grilled ignored me or didn't understand English. DO NOT GO HERE My husband and I came here on a Saturday night around 8pm and all the food looked awful. I asked if they had crab legs and they pointed to an empty container of whah looked like shells. Then the women's bathroom was shut down so they made me go to the men's bathroom, where it smelt awful of feces and there was even sewage on the walls and coming out of some of the toilets. I'm a connoisseur of sushi in particular and Chinese buffets in general. Correction: I'm a sushi snob. I visited 88 Kitchen one afternoon between lunch and dinner. The restaurant is extremely clean, very large and with courteous wait staff. I've learned that many Chinese people have a difficult time smiling or being friendly, but these folks work hard at it. I was impressed when they brought me a fork that was sealed in a paper sleeve, and the tables were spotless. Trust me, this is unusual for a $7.50 Chinese buffet. About the food: the sushi selection was limited. The salmon nigri was very good, with a surprisingly large cut of salmon. Lots of place will give you a rice serving the size of a golf ball and a salmon slice the size of a dime, but not this place. The rest of the sushi though was just very mediocre. The hot bar of typical buffet food was average. I was pleased to see some things on the bar that other local buffets don't have, including fried catfish and coconut shrimp. On the other hand, many of the chicken and beef-based specialties looked like they were using only rejects-the meat sizes were pitifully small. It was a little humid in the restaurant when I visited; I'm not sure if they're trying to save money or the AC was struggling. It was very pleasant outside, so this was an irritation; the last thing you want is to be enjoying your sushi and smelling the very large, unwashed couple from Westmoreland wearing Dale Earnhardt hats and matching WWF outfits two tables away. I left a review of this place as the buffet being poor for vegetarians but the hibachi being good because of a poor selection of vegetarian options available on the buffet. We were "treated" to lunch today and we were pleasantly surprised to see many more vegetarian options available this time - green beans, sautéed mushrooms, spring rolls, mei fun, lo mein, corn, potatoes, french fries - for the kids of all ages - salad bar (limited, but ok). There was enough that we didn't have to do the hibachi grill to be happy. The only negative thing was we were all supplied with just a fork, no knife - which you need to cut those green beans and other items. Sometimes an individual of adventurous spirit stumbles across a hidden culinary gem that must be marveled upon. For me, the 88 Kitchen is that wonder. When I approached the grand entrance way to this establishment, I almost welled up in tears and felt the presence of God like no other time I can recall. I knew I was in for a treat. Not-surprisingly-so, I was correct. The food was hot, fresh, and brought me back to the simpler times of my childhood, where there was no cares in the world. The staff was friendly, put me in the Christmas spirit, and radiated the attitude of willingness to do anything for a customer. I'd like to give a special shout-out to the hibachi chef, Tony, who was especially pleasant. In addition to the fine eating, the cleanliness of the restaurant is also something to take not of. I strongly believe that every Chinese establishment in this country should model after the 88 Kitchen's health and efficiency standards. After I was done eating, all I could do, was get down on my knees and whisper in a shaky, stunned breath, "Thank you God. Thank you for the 88." Finally, in a world of social injustice and general unrighteousness, I would be ashamed of myself if I weren't to address those with opposing beliefs. Those who hold the objectively wrong opinion that the 88 is bad. The only logical explanation for these poor reviews is simple racism. I would like to start this off by saying this entire review is in the scope of Chinese buffets in particular, not restaurants in general. As far as I could tell, the interior of the restaurant is kept clean, and the buffet is especially well kept. The food is very much traditional Americanized buffet fair, but their are a few 88-unique items, including a spicy octopus salad in the salad area. The salad bar is a very nice addition and goes beyond just iceberg and offers some actual greens and interesting toppings. The dressings aren't very creative, but you can't expect the moon. I was pleased to see not just rolled sushi at lunch, though their nigiri (in my opinion) had that taste that is just shy of needing to be replaced with fresher fish. The service was friendly and attentive as well as conversant in several languages, one of which was thankfully English. I think for a buffet restaurant this is one of my top picks for the Nashville area. Clean, friendly and consistent. read more

88 Kitchen is one of the best Chinese buffets I've ever been to! It should be noted that a buffet is still a buffet. If you go in expecting the food to be perfect, you'll likely be disappointed. There's only so high the quality can be at $8.00 a pop. The atmosphere is very casual, and a little too dim for my taste. We were seated immediately around 12:00 PM on a Wednesday. The waitress brought our water promptly, but was a little rigid whenever we thanked her or asked her for anything. Probably just a cultural difference. Everything appeared to be clean to me, save for a few sticky spots on the table. There is a wide selection to be sure. My first plate included staples such as fried rice, lo mein, pepper chicken, General Tso's chicken, orange chicken, teriyaki chicken, and New York steak (because why not). The lo mein was exceptionally, and a personal favorite. The pepper chicken and teriyaki chicken were wonderfully tender and flavorful, but the orange chicken and General Tso's chicken was dry and bread-y. The New York steak was exactly what you'd expect: a cheap and fatty cut. But I won't hold that against a Chinese buffet. There are classic Chinese soups, and a large salad bar that looked like it contained rather fresh ingredients. There's also American food for the more picky eaters, such as macaroni and cheese and chicken fingers. It's worth noting that there is very little crab and shrimp available, which is to be expected. There was some salmon, however. There is a small sushi bar, which I wasn't impressed by. A lot of it lacked flavor, but the fact that they had sushi available at such a cheap buffet was surprising to me. There was plenty of wasabi, soy sauce, and other sauces as well. I'm picky when it comes to sushi, so hopefully more experienced eaters will enjoy it more than I did. There is a hibachi grill, which my grandfather swears by. You can create a plate of raw vegetables and meats which you then give to them to grill with your choice of sauces. I've tried it myself, and it is very flavorful and delicious. The desserts are very tasty! They have sweet buns, which are delightful. Additionally, I saw puddings near the salad bar, and a large freezer full of about six hard ice cream flavors. I also sampled an apple turnover, which was very dough-y and lacked sweetness. The sweet buns made up for it though. Overall, a very great restaurant! I will be eating at it whenever I'm in Nashville for sure. The food is delicious and quite a bargain for the selection provided. read more

I went here before and it was fine as I never expect too much going to a buffet. Today we went at 5pm and the food look old and dry as they were left over from lunch. Even the soup looks funky. Tried this new place yesterday for a business lunch. The parking lot was packed. It was a really nice setting with a beautiful wall of falling water just inside the door. They did a great job remodeling the old business. The selection is really overwhelming. I couldn't even consider every option. The food was all hot and quite tasty. I loved the stuffed shrimp. Need to rest my belly and look to return for 3rds and 4ths sometime soon. -------------------------------- After three more visits, I'm done with this place. The service is fine, but the food is only VERY typical of all other buffets, which is letting their facilities run down. This is the only "Chinese" buffet that I know of in all of Nashville and at least closest to the east side. With that said, its good... for a chinese buffet. They have a great selection of traditional run of the mill Chinese food, sushi, and even "mongolian bbq". They have ice cream too! If I reviewed this place sooner, I may have given them 4 stars. It's one of the best Chinese buffets in the area, food wise. The restaurant is clean and nice inside and out. 2 visits ago, I went there after a workout and was hungry, and was in the mood for Chinese food....they had what I wanted, but the thing that irritated me....they weren't busy that night, was a weeknight around 8 PM. I'm a single guy. Logic *should* prevail that I don't want to be sat right in front of or next to a couple with a screaming toddler! I went there tonight with my buddy....food was good. Mens' room was a disaster and nearly ruined my appetite. I notified the hostess. Whatever. Their choice of music was WEIRD.....mix of hip hop and other crap....there should only be subtle mood music. It's a good place that has potential to be better. Some aspects are well run.....others the management must be a little clueless. All the chicken was tough and chewy, my family had a hard time eating the food. When we asked if there was more getting out out they said yes then said it was it was fresh. My husband n I only ate a few bites of our food and then decided it was inedible, they still charged us for the meal and argued that the food was fine. The water that the pans sit in was boiling it was so hot. They finally gave us half off 2 meals, (we had 4 people). And said they couldn't do anything else because they had to charge for the food we put on our plates, even though we didn't eat any of it, they said the police told them they had to charge it this way. ( I guess police have been involved another time? Id believe it) either way , not good, im mad I spent close to 40$ and only ate an egg roll n a few bites to try to find something edible read more

It's a decent buffet. Plenty of options and friendly enough staff. The decor inside is pleasant and atmosphere is relaxing. They had these unexpected beef tacos and I was so surprises how good they were! Good rice noodles, not too big a fan of the fried rice, it just had a stange taste I couldn't quite figure out.
