Steamboys isn't exactly 3 stars but it's definitely not a 4, it's more like a 3.5. My husband was wanting soup dumplings really bad and most places don't offer this food item because of how long it takes to make. He was really excited to go so we made a 30 minute drive to load up on some dumplings. My first impression was that the place was clean and bright with lots of seating. We were greeted nicely and we sat down to discuss what we wanted before ordering at the register. Disney music played on the speakers the entire time and even me, a Disney-adult, I was over it after having to hear Let it Go twice in a row. We ordered quite the spread: one beef gua bao, one order of chicken & cabbage handcrafted dumplings, one pork belly rice, one chicken gua bao, one zha jiang noodles, soup dumplings, and Thai iced tea, and one jasmine milk tea. In total, with tax and tip, we spent nearly $75. Now, we wouldn't stick our nose up to spending our hard-earned money to get our grub on, however, we felt like we didn't get our money's worth here. The food was just okay. My favorite thing was the beef gua bao and I would absolutely get that one again. The Thai tea was delicious, and the chicken and cabbage dumplings were decent. My husband surprisingly loved the chicken gua bao the most and I really enjoyed it, too. But for the more expensive items like the noodles and rice bowl, they were *fine.* My rice barely had any sauce on them and minimal pieces of pork belly. The soup dumplings, though prepared nicely, were not very flavorful at all. The jasmine milk tea? Probably the worst I've ever had. My husband liked his noodles but I was not crazy about them, they had a very greasy texture to them and the mouth feel was like I was so thirsty at the mechanic that I took a swig of their synthetic motor oil. Now I will say that the employees here are very nice and they bring the food out to you as the dishes are made. Overall, I wasn't impressed with Steamboys except for their beef gua bao and Thai tea. The price didn't match the flavor for the entire meal, so we won't be going back. Service: 10/10 Food: 5/10 (the gua baos and Thai tea are the best) Drinks: 7/10 read more

This was my first time visiting a Steamboys location, and I'm frequently craving dumplings so I had high hopes. Unfortunately I thought it was just okay. Employees were very friendly, attentive, and brought our food quickly, but I found the dumplings to be just okay, if a little bland. I understand it's a chain, but the food should be more flavorful when the prices are higher than an independent dumpling shop. I will say the Thai tea was strong and they didn't add too much ice either. I'd maybe stop here for a quick lunch but I don't know if a full meal is worth the price tag. read more

This little corner restaurant is so cute!! You have to find street parking but after going around the block twice we got the best spot! We were greeted right as we walked in and found a nice high top table. Our eyes were big so we ordered a nice variety of items to share. Our server was very friendly and brought things out to us quickly! We were very pleased with how fast the food came out. Everything was a hit! My daughter did prefer the steamed dumplings over the pan seared because the pan seared were "too oily" for her but they were still delicious. Was craving some soup so thought of checking this place out. The menu online was outdated and was shocked that they had more things! Decided to try the chicken noodle soup and the seared bao bun. We found this place looking for a dumpling restaurant close to Mount Juliet. This place is kind of hard to find and is not fancy on the inside, however, the food is great! The Pho had an excellent broth, very tasty. We also ordered dumplings, bao, popcorn chicken and a broth less beef noodle bowl. Everything we ordered was so good, all the flavors were excellent. We ordered in, sat at a high top table. Like I said, it's not anything fancy inside, but the employees were very nice and helped us pick the best things in the menu. Even the pineapple tea was great! It's such a shame they're changing how they make their staple dishes. I recently ordered the beef rice bowl, it used to be my favorite. Now? I won't be ordering it ever again. It's nasty and greasy, tastes like a used flat top or it's grease trap. At least their dumplings still seem to be untouched. Update: Eating the new beef rice bowl has made me physically ill! Seriously what a horrible decision to change the beef rice bowl from a delicious, freshly made dish with tender beef shank, savory brown sauce, deliciously crunchy blanched greens, and tasty eggs with steamed rice to rehydrated beef jerky, horribly caramelized onions, barely any greens, and grease soaked rice. The Hermitage location is very clean and aesthetically pleasing. Food is always hot and fresh. Service is always great. Staff is extremely nice. We generally get a mix of menu items. Steamed and seared bao, steamed and seared dumplings, hot dumplings, and zha jiang noodles are our faves. I usually do veggie versions when available. The rest of my family does pork or chicken. Wow! This menu is packed with satisfying flavor. Unctuous fluffy bao and delicious pan seared dumplings did not disappoint. We also had some drinks: Earl Grey milk tea and a Vietnamese coffee. The only sad thing is they do not serve the soup dumplings on take out orders, and that was the number 1 thing we wanted to try. The meat in the bao is in a big ball (beef and pork were the same), making them difficult to eat, but the flavor is delicious. Service was patient as I asked questions about the menu. Ordered through Uber eats. The hot dumpling bowl was ok but it tasted like it was frozen dumplings rather than freshly made. I liked the seared beef Bao. Good flavor and the Bao was soft and spongy. The tiger sugar boba was entirely too sweet for me. I was told previously that the boba drink there didn't have more than a tablespoon of sugar. That's completely not true. We ordered the soup dumplings, the pan seared pork and cabbage hot bowl, 5 spices popcorn chicken, beef noodle soup, beef combination Pho, roasted chicken rice bowl, mango tea with strawberry boba and lychee popping boba, and a blended Oreo mocha with brown sugar boba. Every single things we had was delicious! We are a family of 4 (13 and 17 year old) and my husband and I and we all kept sharing all the things we ordered. They were so so good! Lots of flavor! I have to say that not one single thing we did not like. On top of that the service was great, employees were kind and patient and answered questions we had. The bok choy was perfect addition to the dish. Tried the steamed bun with pork; it was my least favorite. It was so salty and made if I had a sauce to go with it, the saltiness wouldn't be so distinct. Didn't care for it. Quick review: Thai tea is great... and I'm super picky. Would like it a little stronger, but it's better than anything I've had recently. The milk powder is a nice creamy touch on the mouthfeel. Beef broth is savory... love it! Great flavor. Beef was good too. Properly cooked and not chewy or slimy fatty. Just right. Recommend the Sriracha and chili oil add to get the balance right. It takes it out of the park. Would prefer diff noodles, but they were good and fit with tradition. Seared dumplings--kids loved them. 16 were gone in less than 3 minutes. My opinion:they needed to be cooked a tad more. Great sear, just needed to be cooked more. Borderline raw, chewy sides. One kid commented after eating 7 or 8 that it was raw. He's the oldest. Finally found an Asian restaurant in Tennessee that has satisfied my craving! Lots of options here ranging from boba, Taiwanese food, Shanghai food, and other Chinese food. We ordered the following: - Beef Shank Noodles - Pan Seared Pork & Cabbage Dumplings - Pan Fried Pork Buns - Soup Dumplings (XLB) - Vietnamese Iced Milk Coffee Beef noodle soup was a simple soup but the beef shanks were still tasty. Baos and dumplings were yummy but quite oily. I wish I had requested a little less ice on the coffee but still good. The workers were also very kind. Overall pretty solid for Tennessee standards. However it was a bit pricey for this food in comparison to this type of food in other parts of the US (I'm from mid Atlantic and northeast) but beggars can't be choosers when there's limited Asian options in Tennessee! read more
