I immediately went in to ask for a new bottle. The store manager gave a smug and asked, "well is it our fault that this broke?" I said, "I'm not blaming you, but can you write this one off and can I get a new one bc I wanted to try this brand and I don't want to buy another one without knowing if I'd like it." They still refused and said, you still need to buy another one bc I didn't break it in their store. It broke outside their store in the parking lot. Never had I had any issues like this before in other supermarkets, they would replace the items no problem with question. I will be taking my business to Mira Mar, even though it's an extra 15 min drive it's worth it bc they have more selections and I don't have to compromise my brands. read more

10/25/20 - The first time I came here was back in October, but decided to write a review now. They have the staples that I need to make a great few dishes, but it lacks a lot of options as far as vegetables and meats go. The deli market is non-existent and I still feel like I have to make my drive down to Mira Mesa or Clairemont for additional asian markets, but I am hoping that with enough support of this market, they will start to expand on their products and their offerings. I went here during their first weeks of being open. When I need some Asian groceries or Asian deli foods, I tend to go when I am working in the area of Clairemont Mesa. Unfortunately, 88 Ranch fell short of my expectations. They do not have an extensive deli or area of eateries like Zion Market or H-Mart. The fresh seafood section is a lot smaller than Zion and HMart as well. There are a lot of cute Asian and Hawaiian snacks that cannot be found in supermarkets in North County. Another positive is the fresh vegetables. I liked seeing the excellent deals on mint and basil. In Whole Foods, I pay double the price than in 88 Ranch market. I use a lot of mint and basil so I appreciate the price difference. Customer service is better than HMart, and as good as Zion market. In summary, 88 Ranch is smaller than Zion and HMart, but it looks clean and new so it is worth checking out. read more

I need a complete Asian market near by. I'm a regular at the 88 Ranch in Temecula, and just found this location in Oceanside. Considerably smaller than the Temecula store, but this one has the basics I need. Plenty of parking as it's located beside a train stop in Oceanside. Convenient. I stopped eating most processed food a year ago, so the majority of this market is of little interest to me. We normally shop at 99 Ranch, HMART or Asian stores in Westminster. Our neighbors caught covid and we decided to make Pho to do a doorbell ditch delivery. You cannot have Pho without Thai basil to go with but we didn't have time to travel far so we went to 88 Ranch for some.... when we got home and unwrapped the package, we discovered the top stems were full of healthy basil leaves as we can see through the saran wrap but when you get to the bottom of the package there were multiple stems with hardly any leaves and the tips were removed as shown in the images. We never experienced this before... I'm hoping that this is an anomaly and not purposely done to increase the weight of the package as a deception to customers. It was only $4 but this experience left me to give a 2 star review due to the staff at least seeming pleasant when were were at the store. I am in love with this store. Tropical fruit, veggies, marinated meats (even tocino!), bakery goodies from around the county. Desserts, spices, tons of seafood choices. The list goes on. I prefer this market to Ranch 99. Not as big of a selection (smaller store) but what is there is what I was looking for and not as overwhelming. The employees were really nice. I love that they are finally in Oceanside, that I don't always have to go to Kearny Mesa or Irvine for a few quick things. What I didn't like is that whomever is sitting at the computer by the registers is never wearing a mask. I have seen 2 different men doing this. One Caucasian and one Asian. The rest of the staff wear their masks appropriately. First I am very happy to have an Asia market at area. And shop this store couple times. But at September 10th I bought two bottles of CALPICO drink for my kids. When I back home,I found I was charged with original price 5.99 not 2for 8$. I call the store immediately and nobody answered. So I decided next time when I pass the area I can stop by get over charged money back. On today September 24th. I finally have time to stop by at store. BUT when I show the receipt to the store customer service or maybe store manager guy. The only reply is it too long to ask money back. I can't do anything now! If you let us know immediately I can fix it, BUT Too Late now! First they still have this drink on sale now 2 for 8. Second on the receipt didn't show any information I have too contact them within special time period. how do I know two weeks it too late?? Third I did call the store at purchased date but NOBODY answered! =========== What I learned today? 1) check your receipt is correct before you leave store because they can also said no after you out of their door. 2) don't trust the post they put for on sale. Check the real price when you check out.(I bought this drink couple time when they on sale but never pay attention for what I paid. until this time. 3) when you found price error at home, immediately go to store and good luck. Because phone may not work and they can change the refund time period any time they want. 4) store may play tricks put all kinds of CALPICO together but on sale only for one flavor, when you buy two different flavors, you may pay the original price for two not your thinked on sale price. It's a nice Asian market. We've desperately needed a good Asian market in the North County. 88 Ranch ticks all my boxes: fresh seafood, fresh meats cut to order, several Asian cuisine ingredients represented (Chinese, Korean, Japanese and some Indian). They have a rather smallish produce section compared to the big SD downtown Asian markets, but they have enough of what I'm shopping for that I don't mind. They have a small and very tidy kitchen wares area too stocked with tea sets, dishes and bowls, cookware, and utensils. My only real complaint is that the staff-while very efficient-is a bit brusque. So while the service is descent it is not "service with a smile". Considering they are a ten minute drive from my house (instead of 35-40 minute drive to the SD stores) I deal with the lack of smiles. If you need Asian ingredients and cookware up here in the North County area, 88 Ranch is worth a look. read more

Ranch 88 is a really great local alternative to making the drive to Kearny Mesa to hit up HMart. They have a really great selection of international and Asian items - fresh, frozen and packaged. I love their huge variety of herbs in the refrigerated cases, and they have a massive selection of fresh noodles. I could get lost in their packaged food aisles - row after row after row of sauces, dried noodles, canned goods, snacks, desserts, and so much more! General produce is a little hit or miss, but they usually have the basics. Prices are a little above average - I'd suggest getting fresh veggies elsewhere. Their meat counter always has a wide selection of fresh fish, and they'll butcher and clean it for you, too! The store is clean and well-lit, and I've never had to wait too long for a cashier when I'm ready to check out. Just depends on how many items the person in front of you is getting. I'm really glad to have a great Asian market so close! This place has a really big selection, and it's very clean and well maintained. I have celiac, so navigating these sorts of places can be really confusing, but most of the packaging has English ingredients so I can read through everything, but it's really a search amongst hundreds of items to find items I can safely eat. Once I start finding my go to items it will get easier. I love all the chilies and oils and condiments. I'm looking forward to finding sauces that are gluten free but that takes some time. There's also a lot of meat and produce here. I'm also obsessed with the drink sections! Marble sodas, coffees and boba. Yummmmmy. The staff was friendly and I'll definitely be back. It's the best place to pick up some pork belly and ramen. Of course it's not a one stop shop. Luckily Albertsons is across the street. But it's great for cooking experiments. It's definitely stepped up my cooking game a few points. It is losing a point for service. It's kinda what you'd expect from a busy market that is still learning English. I am so sick and tired of being inconvenienced especially at todays prices. I checked expiration date but these aren't expire until Dec 30, 2022. I went back to store and told employee or manager about this but they didn't even care at all. Happy place for hard to find Asian staples. I have been shopping here since last October, when they first opened. I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw that they had real king oyster mushrooms, the extra large size that I would buy at Markets in China. Finally a real Asian market for us in North County!!! I love that they sell woks, hot pots and even little random plastic buckets you would always see at markets in China. It's really a one stop shop for creating whatever Asian home cooked meal you are craving. My staples here are the king oyster mushrooms, Chinese eggplant, Chinese cabbage, fresh Thai chilis, fresh peeled garlic, Vietnamese coffee, sauces galore & the fresh noodle section is insane! They carry quite a wide selection of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Filipino foods/products. You could totally lose all track of time adding all the many different Asian delights to your cart. Thank goodness I found this place. The brightest highlight of this market place is that they provide fish frying service!!! OMG that is the best thing ever! Hours for this service is Monday through Sunday from 8AM to 6PM Other things I noticed was the fresh produce and everything is so neatly stocked. The refrigerator aisle is organized and you must pay attention to all the frozen food options. The store is a bit small/snug and aisles are narrow especially during COVID, it's a bit unnerving, however, the remedy is to plan a trip during quieter shopping times. read more

They sell uncooked Maine Lobster that are dead. That means they are spoiled and can make you sick! Why do they do that?!

The staff in the seafood dept are rude. They won't fry the fish because it's small, they only fry fish that are big in size and I've been going to this market for that reason to buy fish and fry it there. They've been doing it and suddenly they tell me they only fry large fish. It doesn't make sense since the fish that I was buying is not even small it's medium size fish and honestly it doesn't make sense . The Manager was able to help me but they want me to get the fish that's $1 more a lb for them to fry it. I wouldn't recommend this place their prices are high too. read more

It's taken a long time for a real Asian market to make it up into our neck of the woods folks and I'm here for it. First things first. If you are expecting this to be like a Walmart or Vons, turn around and go home. Nothing to see here. This is an ASIAN market that's going to smell strange and won't be selling Hot Pockets. It occupies an old Fresh and Easy location. There are carts in the front and a small sanitation station by the door before you enter. Of course the second the door opens, you get that familiar Asian store mixture of smells of various spices and fish. Not all that pleasant, but you get used to it quickly. They have a pretty good selection of Filipino/Asian breads when you walk in. My cart was almost full from stocking up in that section and I barely was inside the store! Lots of veggies, fish and Asian snacks to choose from. They will even fry your fish for you. Very clean place. I just wish they would restock the mushroom cracklings that I bought them out of and life would be complete. read more

Excellent new addition to Oceanside! This is a small grocery store that took over the space of the now defunct Fresh n Easy. However, they have a full seafood counter in the back and lots of unusual meat cuts in the back fridge space. In the front, you can find tons of exotic fruits ands vegetables including some really difficult to find things like Chinese Broccoli and Jackfruit. In the other aisles, you can score some awesome candies and snacks found nowhere else in the area. Each trip here has been a major success. Overall, great initial impression here! read more

So glad 88 Ranch Market finally opened their doors for business. They are conveniently located on Oceanside Blvd. (Fresh and Easy used to be) right next to the train station, car wash, Chase bank, Dollar Tree, Chipotle, Yogurtland, etc. Shopped here the second day after their Grand Opening and it was a positive experience. Lots of parking on both sides and in front of the market. Plenty of shopping carts near the entrance. I appreciate the smaller carts so they don't take over the aisles. A nice lady greeted patrons when they entered. The entire store was clean, fully stocked and had a good number of employees at the register, restocking and working the seafood and meat counters.....this is to be expected since they just opened. They have a good selection of Asian-centric produce, baked goods, frozen food, drinks, sauces and a great variety of meat and seafood including several Filipino varieties. This is a very nice Asian market with most of the items that I now drive 50 miles to get fresh fish,fresh live fish good fresh produce ( I am a retired produce man) all the dry goods that you would expect in a half size location in north county very much needed. I also found there prices to be good too. There staff is a little aloof but I find that to be true in all Asian markets but they are helpful. Overall 88 Ranch Market Very clean well organized and carries just about everything I need for my Asian cooking needs which is about 80% of the way I cook. It's not as grand as 99 Ranch Market but if I'm ever in the Oceanside area, I know I can come by here to pick up a couple items rather than having to drive down to Claremont. The aisles are a little on the smaller side so social distancing is a little on the harder side trying to move your way through the carts. Nice selection of fish and meats. Great selection of veggies and fruits. I kind liked how everything was wrapped so everyone's not touching everything but just the amount of waste being used. Overall, great easy to find location. This is the first Asian market that finally opened up in the Oceanside area, and I think the neighborhood is happy about this place. For those who are of Asian decent, now we don't have to go all the way to San Diego to get Asian groceries. This place is similar and the closest to 99 Ranch Market. They carry a good amount of products that I would usually find in the Asian markets I find when I am in the Cerritos, Westminster, and San Gabriel Valley Area. They carry both Asian products and American products. I was looking for specific products, but they do not carry it at the moment. However, I believe I met the owner or manager, and he was nice and said that he'll take my requests into consideration as they are continuously adding product based on customer needs.
